Verizon Mifi 4510L 4g LTE speeds of less than 2 MB

Hello,
I have a Verizon Mifi 4510L, and am loctaed in zipcode 43402.
All of my friends 4G Phones receive ~15 MBs download. However my Mifi is only receiving less than 2 MB at anytime, even though the connection is stable. I have purchased an antenna, moved it around the house, etc... But nothing changes and remains a bad connection. I am 99.9% sure that my device is fine.
What could the issue be, am I being limited on speed because its a mifi and not a phone?

JD,
Your MiFi does not sound like it is performing correctly.  4G should be atleast 5 Mbps when testing on Speedtest.net.  What I suggest is a level 2 reset to clear up your SIM card and reconnect to the local towers.
Level 2 Reset:
Power down the MiFi
Remove the back cover
Remove the battery
Remove the SIM card
Allow the MiFi to sit for 30 seconds
Reassemble the MiFi
Test the Connection
Performance problems are normally temporary and can be resolved.  If you continue to have poor performance then perhaps there is some strong interferance where you are trying to use the MiFi.  You shouldnt have to go outside, but try to conduct a Site Survey to see if you can get any better results.  Here is a great link to walk you through the Site Survey process:
http://3gstore.com/page/13_will_an_antenna_help_me.html
If you find a good area then I can share some info on boosters and antennas which may make the MiFi more consistent for you.  If not then contact VZW support directly through the 1-800 number.  They should be able to confirm a service problem in your area.

I am trying to create a virtual engine within a timed while loop and am unable to get the loop to run at a speed of less than 1ms (I am currently using the Wait(ms) function). This does not however allow realistic engine speeds. How can I overcome this? I have access to a PCI-MIO-16E-4 board.

    Andy,
Unless you use a real time platform, getting extactly 1 ms loop rate
(or even less) is impossible. It starts getting troublesome at about
0.1 Hz for standard operating systems.
I'd tackle your problem with "if i mod 10 == 0 then sleep 1 ms".
    Of
course this is jerky by design.

  • Frustrated ...INfinity drops speed to less than 3 ...

Storrington, West Sussex, speed has dropped to less than 3 mbps, goes up to 5 and then down to less than 2 ... this has occurred regulalry over the past three days. I have waited to see if it goes up to 35+ mbps as is normal, but so far no.
Anyone else get this frustrating anomaly with Infinity for which we pay through the nose.
Noticeable mainly when trying to watch TV through the net.

  • Facetime connection problems using Verizon mifi 4510L device

Anyone having problems with iPhone facetime connection being dropped when using this wifi device? Phone/facetime work perfectly when on other wifi connections. Thanks, Matt

The Verizon 4G network has terrible latency, so, while downloads (and uploads) can be fast, it can take them a while to get started, so any exchange that needs a fast response is likely to be unstable. The network also sometimes stops working for several seconds at a time. I have a Verizon LC-11 wireless hotspot and I'm not happy with it.

  • Iphone Wifi speeds are less than 3G speeds after setting up Airport Extreme

Hello everyone. I've been searching long and hard for an answer with no success. I'm hoping someone here can help me out. A few weeks ago I upgraded my speed on my ISP from 30Mbps down and 4Mbps Up to 50Mbps down and 8Mbps up. I used to have a WRT54G Linskys router which gave me great speeds on my ipads, iphone, Apple TV and both windows based computers. The other day I switched the Linskys out for an new AirPort Extreme. I Set it up and the speeds on all my devices were constant around 35 down and 8 up. I left the default settings on the AirPort Extreme. Then a few days ago I set up the security for my router, WPA2- Personal. Checked the speeds and my computers, ipads are running great but now my iphones are doing constantly for the last 3 days 1Mbps down and 8Mpbs up. So last night I tuned off my security and than the iphone was back to normal speeds. I'm pretty much confused now. Any ideas? Seems like the security setting are doing something here.

  • Paying for Infinity 2, speed is less than advertis...

    Hi,
I am paying for Infinity 2 "Superfast Fibre" but my speed is rubbish. Reported to BT and engineer was out yesterday, tested line and everything is ok
He reckons i'm just too far from the Cabinet and would never get the speeds suggested in the ad and as below, so it looks like I am paying £5 a month just for BT Cloud.
Is best option just to contact BT and downgrade to Infinity 1 or would this slow me down even more/
Speed tests have been run over the last week at all times of day via wired connection straight into to HH3 and consistently come out at 24Mb
    Thanks
    Andy

How far from the cabinet are you. See graph for speed to distance.
Regardless of that, you are out side even the lowest speed Range B estimate.  You need to contact BT again and report that your speed is 24Mbps and your estimated speed should be between the Range A estimate of 39Mbps to 59Mbps and that you want another engineer, who is prepared to look for the fault and the reason you are not getting your estimated speed, rather than fob you of with an excuse about being to far from the cabinet.
If that was the case your estimated speed on the checker would reflect that.

  • MIFI 4510l speed issue

Mfif 4510L 4G LTE speed has deterioated to .25 to .40mbps from 1.5 to high of 6.2mbps. anyone else experiencing this issue. I've done battery pull, sim removal with no positive results. filed a trouble ticket with support but no response to date. I have excellent signal and -68db to -73db most days. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    John,
Thanks for info never notified of optimization and 3G phones working fine except for certain spots when traveling that must be low signal areas. As for Mifi 4510L works fine in the wee hours of the morning but once more people would be accessing service speed drops below unacceptable. VZW engineers supposedly working on problem, no updates! I really think it's a traffic, capacity, spectrum or whatever correct terminology is for the problem. Local phone company offering 10Mbps for less than VZW for a year, leaning to that service. Lose portability but gain ability to adequately download software, utilize YouTube and gaming opportunities. Reports from many neighbors support reliability of phone company speeds. Maybe someday VZW will deliver reliable 4G LTE in my area. We were thinking of upgrading phones but with this problem think we'll stick with 3G phones for now.
Appreciate the update, hope all going well for you.
    Joe.

  • Warning: Snail Mail and the Mifi 4510L

I recently chose to come back to Verizon because of the Mifi 4510L 4G LTE.  It's my first Verizon product in over five years. It really is a top notch product and the speeds are indeed fantastic.  However, I cannot say the same thing about Verizon customer service.  When I went to register my new Verizon Wireless product and create an online account, the Verizon wireless site said it would have to send me a temporary password via a text message.  The only problem is that the Mifi 4510L 4G LTE does not receive texts and does not support VZaccess.  So they said they had to mail me a password via snail mail.  THE DEVICE CANNOT RECIEVE TEXTS.  THEY PLANNED FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO BUY ONE OF THEIR MOST ADVANCED PIECES OF TECHNOLOGY TO GET A PASSWORD VIA THE U.S. MAIL.   Come on Verizon, don't you think you could plan this a little better?  Everyone complains about AT&T, but the sheer lack of planning by Verizon in this case is truly shocking.  I bought their best piece of technology and I have to get my online password via snail mail.  There is one word for that in this day and age: Ridiculous
And the problem just continued.  Not only did I have to get my password in the mail, they actually end up never sending it to me.  Three weeks later, no password, but I got multiple emails telling me I could track my usage online and look at my first bill.  So I try again to log on to the Verizon website thinking the issue was resolved but no, the online account still had not been activated.  So I call Verizon customer service to try and resolve this.  They inform me that I had to ask for the password to be mailed when I tried to register the account the first time.   The only problem is that their web site told me they would mail it and it never asked me whether my device could receive texts.  So here I am, more than a month after I activated the Mifi, and I still cannot access my online account to see my usage or pay my bill.
Nice work Verizon.  When this contract expires, I will not be returning.

Take a look at this thread when you have a chance:
    http://community.vzw.com/t5/Broadband-Netbook-Devices/4G-LTE-Mobile-Hotspot-MiFi-4510L-Can-t-Charge-and-Use/td-p/522120/page/3
I cant speak for the 2200, but for the MiFi 4510 you can purchase a $8.00 dongle from Boxwave.com to work around the charge and use limitation.  It's possible that such an adapter would work for your device too.
I had pondered purchasing a charge only cable, or making one for my car adapter, which would never need the data anyway.
Several handy notes in that posting, including "Plug the MIFI into my car's Belkin 12VDC car charger with the USB charge only cable and the MIFI swtches off."
I have a car adapter that I bought at the Verizon Store: QMadix QM-3000-MICROV2  that is supposed to provide 1Amp output.
This intermittently charges the MiFi, but it never disables the Wifi.  I haven't decided about the intermittent charging.  I think it might be car on verses off (outlet stays alive).  It has two ports, but it won't charge a Droid and a Blackberry simultaneously.
The advice on http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/2146 doesn't show the green/white shorted, but your noted page says to short them.
My laptop has one port that remains on while the laptop is off, for charging, and the BIOS asks you to identify which device you will be charging when you enable that facility.  I wonder if that port (with yellow inside instead of white, might also be higher power.

  • Getting slow LTE speeds on 5s

I will notice I'm getting really slow LTE speeds when streaming music on my iphone 5s because rdio, pandora, itunes radio and sirius xm will pause for long periods of time. The short remedy to this is me having to turn on/off airplane mode and it will work as normal for about 10-15 minutes before going really slow again.
Does anyone think this is the LTE on my phone having the issue? I have Verizon with unlimited data.

    Hello there dmaynard83,
It sounds like your LTE speed is lower than expected, but seems ok for a bit if you toggle Airplane mode on then off. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve issues with the cellular data network:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3780
    Restart your iPhone.
Make sure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update: Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update: Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still doesn't, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPhone as new.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Less than 1Mb upload speed

    Hello everyone
I have been with BT infinity for a good few months now but this issue has become too big a problem. I have tried to fix it myself to no avail. My issue is terribly slow upload speeds, always less than 1Mb, on some occassions less than 0.5Mb.
Here are the results from the wholsale speed test
I have run many different speed tests online, and on both computers in the house. Both machines show the same terrible upload speed. I do not expect to get the full 10Mb of the IP profile, but I would like to get it to atleast 2Mb so I can stream my games online via twitch and upload youtube videos in less than 10 hours.
I have tried resetting machines, the router and the modem but it made little difference. I would greatley appreciate any help you can provide with this issue, thankyou.

This test was run on a wireless connection, however I have also run the test on wired. This usually results in a very marginal increase in download speed, but absolutely no change in upload speed.

  • Wireline Connection Significantly Less Than Modem's

I have a WRT160N router. When I connect my computer directly to my modem, my speeds are ~21000 kb/s DL and ~2500 kb/s UL. However, when I place my router between the two, I constently get less than 800 kb/s DL. The UL speed remains consistent at ~2500 kb/s.
The lower speed of less than 800 kb/s occurs on all 4 wired access ports and wireless connection to my XP notebook. Is there anything in the settings that restricts the DL throughput?
This issue didn't occur when I used the same router at my last address.

Unfortunately, this didn't work. It actually seemed to make the connection slower, so I changed the setting back to Auto on the router.
A friend has the same router, so I asked to borrow it. When plugged into my modem, his exhibited the same DL/UL behaviors as mine. Yet still, connecting directly to the modem shows >18Mbps up and >2.3Mbps down.
Considering the router is just supposed to be a straight pipe with no limiter, I really don't understand why it is performing this way. All the tests were conducted with my laptop being the only computer on the network with the test being the only internet activity.

  • MiFi 4510l Set to LTE Only But Switches to 3G Even with Strong Signals

I switched my 4510l to LTE only since it wasn't working properly when set to Global.  It seems to prefer 3G signals when it is in this mode.  Now my problem is the MiFi will switch to 3G even though signals appear to be strong on 4G.  See below.
    Channel: 775 P_REV Indicator: 6 PRL ID: 15010 Band Class Type: US PCS (1900MHz) ERI Version: 4 Dormancy: FALSE Signal - EVDO: -77 dBm Signal - 1X: -92 dBm Signal - LTE: -64 dBmSINR - LTE: 29 dB Battery Level: 2 Battery Charging: 0 Ec/Io : -8.00 dB
Currently, the MiFi is on 3G and not switching back to 4G until I reboot it.

If the MiFi is no longer under warranty then the VZW store reps will not likely be able to help you.  You could try your luck but unless we are overlooking something very simple chances are the random store rep is not going to be of much technical assistance.  Store reps are there to sell devices, not fix them.  You wont get far with phone support either after they discover your device is out of warranty.  Although Phone Support should be able to at least confirm the WiFi password for your device so you can rule out that uncertainty.
A store rep is more likely to assist you with replacement options.  Either upgrading your device to the next one in line or considering replacing it all together with a different model at full retail.  I believe the MiFi 5510L retails at 199.00 and is the cheapest one you can buy at the moment without discounts.
I am unfamiliar with re-flashing the 4510 with the current version of firmware.  Its possible the update will not take because it is unable to overwrite the current version.  I would save that option as a last resort incase it goes bad and really bricks the device.
You might want to try connecting to the MiFi on a different computer just to see if it can be done.  That could help us isolate a problem on your current computer as opposed to the MiFi.

  • Mifi 4510L - Use Verizon Wifi Hotspots

I used to have the Mifi 2200 - and was able to cable up to the mifi - and use the Vz Access Manager to authenticate to the verizon wifi hotspots at airports, etc.

Support, and my local store had no clue.

The Verizon WiFi web site is specific on who is eligible.... and it was part of my purchasing decision on the MiFi 4510L and my 2 year contract.:
    From http://support.vzw.com/clc/faqs/VZAccess/verizon_wifi.html#item7
Who is eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi service?
If you are currently signed up for a Mobile Broadband or GlobalAccess monthly service plan on a month-to-month, one- or two-year contract term, you are eligible for complimentary Verizon Wi-Fi.
Note: Prepaid Mobile Broadband, Mobile Broadband Connect, and smartphone users are not eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi.
