Verizon Mifi or Sprint Overdrive

Who has any feed back on these two systems, likes dislikes would be much appreciated. I wanted to wait for the 3G ipad but don't want to be limited as to what can be downloaded, one of these two systems sounds a little better not to mention being able to share the signal is a plus when you are on the move,

Streaming video will consume the 5GB allocation in fairly short order, but basic web surfing and email, along with managing the odd attachment, will not typically be a challenge for staying under the limit. Going over the 5GB is an expensive proposition at .05 per MB. That equates to $250 for the next 5 GB. Having used both, my thoughts are as follows.
Sprint - 4G unlimited/3G 5GB is a great plan if you are in a 4G coverage area. The device is larger than the MiFi from Verizon, and has user configurable security.
Verizon MiFi - Incredible coverage model, and the ability to down select to a slower speed when 3G is unavailable. Basically an always connected state if you want it to be. Very small device with approx 4 hour run time before recharge via USB.
The WiFi + 3G version of the iPad will not have a down select for speed. Unlike the iPhone, there is not Edge functionality built in, but $30 per month for unlimited data is a pretty sweet deal if you can live with the AT&T coverage area.

  • Home Wifi solved....however, still  drops with sprint overdrive

My iPad has been acting crazy since the moment I opened it. The signal strength kept moving from one bar which gave me a great signal to three bars which meant no reception at all!!! Crazy.... Went out a purchased a new Netgear router (rangemax- n 150) and from the moment i installed it the reception bars keep moving up and down often, however, I now get amazing reception all over my house all the time...looks like problem solved. All I did was buy a new router. Also, went out to Borders and star bucks and getting great signal strength. I believe I just needed a new router which means Ipad seems ok. Now, for the other issue. I purchased an sprint overdrive mifi. This thing keeps dropping me out (10 times per hour)!!!!!!!! I'm really confused as to why this is happening. It almost seems like either the iPad or the overdrive can't read each others capability or something. Called sprint and they say the overdrive works fine...called apple and all they said is that they are working on the wifi issue and to hang in there...the employee didnt have a clear answer for me. I have two more days before I can return the iPad...i think I might and get the 3G version instead. Does anyone have an answer for the overdrive issue?

I am using the Verizon MiFi, which is manufactured by the same folks (Novatel) and am having no issues at all.
Did you leave everything at default settings? It is actually a fairly capable Router, and you can login and configure it.

  • Sprint Overdrive and data charges

I recently purchased a Sprint Overdrive to replace a Sprint air card.  My intent was to provide wireless access for my children, for whom I had purchased an Apple MacBook and NetBook (purchased at Best Buy along with Overdrive).  Today I got my Sprint bill and had a $500.00 (yes that is five hundred) dollar charge for overage charges data services on the Overdrive.  I immediately called Sprint and they said that I had an unlimited plan and that there was nothing in my account notes regarding a change in my service (Other than the fact that I was now utilizing an Overdrive).  I was told that because I had purchased the Overdrive at BestBuy, they would have to resolve the additional charges.  Sprint explained that I should have been told that the Overdrive in the 3G useage is limited to 5G and that BestBuy should have discussed/informed me about this.  I, in fact, never was told anything about any additional charges because, as we discussed, I was keeping the same useage plan.  I was also told that BestBuy would have to resolve the SPrint additonal fees, to which I replied HOW?  So now my question, how do I ge this issue resolved.

The term "unlimited" is used a lot in the mobile phone and mobile broadband business. In reality, the only true "unlimited" plan is a Sprint 4G aircard when connected to a 4G Sprint network. All other phones/aircards/services are limited to 5GB per month. These terms are stated on the contract, product listings and service offerings. Best Buy, unfortunately, has no control over Sprint's billing and would not be able to credit your account in anyway. Your best option would be to speak with a local Sprint store and explain that you upgraded your aircard to a mobile hotspot and were unaware of a data limit. They may be able to work with you on the charges if you present you case in a polite manner. I remember when I first added texting to my phone and was told I had unlimited when, in fact, the sales rep forgot to add it to my account. My local Verizon Store manager credited over $900 in texting overages for me.

  • TS1398 I am trying to connect an IPod Touch to a Verizon MiFi at home.  I have connected a computer, Nooks, and a tablet to this WiFi with a password and the IPod says it is unable to join.  Help!

I am trying to connect an IPod Touch to my Verizon MiFi Hotspot.  It has a password.  I have set up a computer, a tablet, and 2 nooks to this MiFi but can't get the IPod to connect to any network that has a password. Please help!

There are other things to try.
Turn WiFi off on the iPad, restart it and then turn WiFi on again.
Reset the network settings on the iPad. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, that makes you have to start all over again.

Maybe you can find your drivers there —or at least some information.
As of your printer, turn it on and connect it to your mac, then click in software update —chances are that you can download the drivers.

  • Time Capsule and Verizon MIFI

I have Verizon MIFI into our home for internet connection.  How can I use this with the Apple Time Capsule?
Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Check with Verizon for an adapter that would allow the MiFi to connect to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
That is the only way that the Time Capsule can connect.

  • HP5510 not connecting to Verizon MiFi - despite finding it.

I am trying to get my HP5510 wireless printer setup.  It sees the Verizon MiFi, I can enter the password, and then it does not connect.  Have tried all I can think of.  Tried instaling through the CD and it keeps sending me back to go through the Wireless Setup Wizard - which does not work.  ANy sugestions?

I would also suggest printing out a Wireless Network Test Report. This report might have additional information which would be helpful in troubleshooting the issue. You can access the option to print this report by pressing the Wireless button on the front of the printer. Look at the top of the report for a possible explanation of why the printer is failing to connect.
Also, it would helpful to know the type of wireless authentication/encryption (WEP-Shared, WPA2-PSK, etc.) being used to secure your wireless network. You can determine this using the Windows wireless client. Click on the signal strength bar icon at the bottom of your screen, hover over the name of the network to which your PC is connected and note what is reported for "Security Type."
Finally, the following web site provides help in troubleshooting common wireless connection issues:
    https://h20563.www2.hp.com/p/_wireless/index.html?jumpid=ex_r602_go/wirelessprinting
I would recommend browsing this site after providing the information requested above.

  • HT1178 Time Capsule and Verizon MiFi?

How do I set up my Time Capsule if the only internet we have is a portable Verizon MiFi?

I believe you cannot. MiFi does not have a USB connection for the external Hartd disc.
You could try to find a wireless Router which has a Lan connection, like this http://www.routeripaddress.com/routers/2012/huawei-d100_default_settings.html

  • I have a verizon mifi 2200 modem and wonder if an ipad with retina display will connect to it

I have a verizon mifi 2200 modem and wonder if an ipad with retina display will connect with it to use the internet

It should work. Have you tried and it doesn't work?
    FYI
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • How do I connect my hp 1505n printer to my Verizon mifi

I have windows vista  and I need help on how to connect my Verizon mifi to my hp 1505n printer.

    Hi  Dixieo,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I see that you would like to learn how to setup your Deskjet 2540 printer so you can print from your iPad.
The first thing that needs to be done is to setup your printer onto your wireless network.  I have included the Installing the Printer Software for a Wireless Network Connection document for you.  Please click on the operating system of your computer and follow the steps provided.
Now that the printer is on the wireless network, you should be able to use Apple’s AirPrint feature to print. I have included HP’s document How to Use Apple's AirPrint Over a Wireless Network, as well as Apple’s AirPrint Basics document.  Both documents will assist you in learning how to print using Apple’s AirPrint.
I have also included HP’s All-in-One Printer Support App FAQ document.  If you download and install this app by HP it will allow you to scan from the printer directly to your iPad.

  • IPad mini no connect w/Verizon MiFi

I just got an iPad mini and it refuses to connect with my Verizon MiFi. It's not the iOS version that's the problem because my iPhone with iOS 6 connects just fine. My old iPad v1 connects, my iPhone with iOS 5 connects, my MBAir running Lion connects just fine. The new Mini is the only thing I can't join the network with. Anyone with a clue on this problem?

    Hi-
Yes, I would very much like to use my new iPad mini with my MiFi card.
I can promise you that between my husband and me we must have tried connecting 20 or 25 times so I seriously doubt the SN was being entered incorrectly the entire time (if at all) and we are using the correct number as we've checked it against all the other devices we use with it that do work.
Speaking of which, while we have six devices that use--or at least have attempted to use--the Verizon MiFi, there is rarely more than one (my laptop) and never more than two (laptop, iPhone/Pad). Our two phones (iOS 6), my MacbookAir and the old iPad1(iOS 5) all successfully connect. My new Mini (iOS6) and my husband's desktop iMac (OS 10.7.5) are unable to connect. We tried connecting with the iMac just to see if it could.
The only message I get is the tiny notation at the top of the "Enter Password" window is: "Failed to join (network name)" If I should tap "Join" again a separate message might come up reporting: "Unable to join the network 'name'" with a "Dismiss" button.
All devices, including the new iPad Mini, are able to join the home network and I am able to join networks at coffee shops, bookstores, etc.
Also you should know that one thing my husband tried in troubleshooting this issue was updating the MiFi card's firmware to its latest version from your website. That unfortunately did not solve it. However the other devices are still connecting to the MiFi after that maneuver.
So that's the rub. Don't know what else I can report to you. We were about to try changing the password but this communique came in first so we'll hold off until we hear back.
    thank you

  • Verizon mifi compatible with WRT54G3GV2-SR-T?

I have a Verizon mifi and want to be able to use the mifi connection with a hard wire, as well as extend the range for wireless beyond the  30 foot limitation of the mifi.
I am about to purchase a WRT54G3GV2-ST, so my question is:  will this work?
My understanding is the mifi only has a usb connection, can I plug this usb connection into the WRT54G3GV2-ST to accomplish my goal?

What is the Model no of the Card do you have..?

  • AirPort Express Base Station not recognized by Verizon MiFi 4G

I use an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to connect wirelessly to my PC in order to play music from iTunes.  The AX is connected via wire to a sound system.  I have just changed from a Verizon MiFi 3G wi-fi hot spot to a Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hot spot.  I was able to use the AX on the Verizon MiFi 3G wi-fi hot spot with no problem.  But when I switched to the Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hot spot, I could not get the AX to work.  I used the AirPort Utility to update the AX settings, including changing from WPA to WPA2, and the AirPort Utility reported everything OK (green check mark at end of session), but the Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hotspot does not recognize the AX--the indicator light on the AX is blinking orange, not solid green.
Does anyone have any idea why the AX worked with the Verizon MiFi 3G hotspot but not with the Verizon MiFi 4G hotspot?
Is there some kind of workaround or another box to put in the system?
    Thanks.
    CFTC

It say's this on the main Apple Website:
Support for WPA requires Mac OS X v10.3 or later.  Use of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) reduces the maximum number of network users. When joining an existing wireless network, AirPort Express supports only WPA-Personal. WPA2 requires a Mac computer with an AirPort Extreme Card and Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
So it has to be on WPA-Personal.
The Airport Utility should tell you what is wrong with it when it is orange.
Also, is it running on the same channel? For instance, are they both running on channel 1? Are you extending a network, or creating a network?
Hope that brain snap just puts everything together.
