Verizon Mms support for Google voice

Google voice now supports mms, albeit not in the most graceful fashion.  I ported my number to Google voice as I was a user previously when I was a Sprint customer.  Sprint had native Google voice integration and it is great!  I was simply fed up with their lack of 4g data coverage so I moved to Verizon.  I found out after porting my number to Google voice that AT&T and Verizon selectively decline to participate with Google on mms support.  Why is this? Are there any plans to change this situation?   If I could switch everyone I knew to hangouts I would it is a great service, but isn't feasible, so I need the ability to receive mms through my Google voice number.

Going to side with Justin here as well (and those of us who have been here for a while know, like ourselves, that he isn't a Verizon employee)  ... the issues being described are indicative of a local inside wiring problem (poor cabling, loose connections, unterminated/noise introducing cable outlets, etc.).   Since the TV is indicating problems, it's likely also interfering with the MoCA signal to the modem which would result in internet issues as well.
I can second my experience with Chrome as well ... it works just fine with Verizon webmail.  Just tried it again to be sure.
If you are encountering problems, it would be helpful if you could be more specific.  I suspect the you have an anti-virus / malware product that is probably set to block certain kinds of traffic (like Javascript, etc.) that is potentially interfering.   The solution in such cases is to whitelist the Verizon site as a known location -- how to do that however is a function of your anti-virus/anti-malware product.
As for cost, I've been a customer for several years now.  My rate went up by $10 once in that time and I ended up rebundling my STB's and essentially negating that increase.  Compared to my cable provider -- who I continue to evaluate every year for cost/speed (while I like FiOS, I believe in fair competition and the best price / speed will always win my business) -- they are still the best deal for my money (don't get me wrong, cheaper or more bundle optons would be better!).  YMMV.

Hi, no netflix or even TV here, but I'm wondering if this is the problem?
Mac OS X: An Intel-based Mac with OS 10.4.8 or later. Browser support is Safari 3 (or higher), Firefox 2 (or higher) or Google Chrome. Mac Netflix was added October 27, 2008, which requires use of the Microsoft Silverlight technology.[99]

  • Trouble installing plugin for Google Voice and Video

Just upgraded to Yosemite. After doing so, my Google Voice and Video stopped working. I have re-installed the plugin multiple times with each attempt reaching the "Install Successful" message. I've restarted Safari and my computer, but the Google Voice and Video for Hangouts is still not working. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

    Hello again,
Seems to be fixed in the Firefox new version (4.0.1).
    Best Regards.

  • Verizon tech support for FIOS - how to get around the attitude.

Most are helpful, but some are rather disdainful of macs or linux, or act surprised if you have more than one computer.
A: Well, if I only had one computer, why would I need a router?
Linux does not need any special support, and in fact runs quite beautifully on FiOS and the router without any setup at all. It recognizes the router and self-adjusts with DHCP auto. Actually it's much faster and less flawed than Windows.
Linux doesn't have any recognized or known virus. At all. FUD is generated at various times during calls to FiOS support when I make the mistake of mentioning linux. They act like it's going to break their network.
I'm an Admin from MSFT, and MSFT uses linux. Extensively. They just don't like to talk about it. "Seven" = NT 7.0. NT is MSFT's version of UNIX, which they licensed fom Novell.
So, even microsoft contains unix code. Tada.  Lets' drop the operating system arguments for now though.
I have three Dell servers, six Dell and HP desktops, and two laptops. All but two of them run linux full time, and only one is dual boot. Both laptops run linux exclusively and so do three of the desktops and ALL my servers. I've never in 12 years had a linux virus, and I never will. No, I don't even run a firewall, and there is no linux antivirus software accepted by the linux distributions, because it's useless. Not needed.
All of these machines, XP, Vista, Ubuntu, Slackware, and Red Hat Server run on four brainless hubs, or switches. A switch is not capable of DHCP or DNS routing. They are passive devices which are not capable of blocking a router. They only stop working when they die. You can have switches [hubs] in ANY conceivable chain or configuration, and they still work the same, as they all take commands from whatever routers you have.
The only router in my home is the verizon router. I have no need of others, but I've run dual and even triple routers before without a single problem. You set the extra routers to 192.168.2.1 instead of 1.1. Third router? 192.168.3.1. And so on. Painless.
None of these devices have yet failed or ever blocked internet access, yet half the time when I call verizon FiOS, the tech people tell me to connect directly to the router with my laptop. I've always just TOLD them that I did, but I never ever did that. It's not necessary. If you can't connect to 192.168.1.1, the router is dead. checking hubs is an astoundingly simple task that only takes a second... you just go to any other computer on that hub, or plug in my laptop, and see if you can get through. I've had one hub fail in the last 8 years, and that didn't fool me for more than a minute. I replaced it and was back in biz without tech support help.
ONLY in the instance where only ONE computer is down, does it make sense to isolate the router. Thus, the FiOS people are just trained to eliminate the obvious, but they also talk smack. MOCO? Why would I have a major OC24 type network connection in my home? I've been hit with just such questions. Wouldn't verizon know if I had a backbone connection through them???
Here's the deal: Buy your own equipment, and get warranties. Unless the external box, ONT I believe they call it, has died, you're not likely to get a lot of support anyway - since verizon will not talk about anything other than their router and the ONT.  Save time and just be aware of your own eqiupment. I'm on my sixth day of having no FiOS since Verizon sent me a new also bad router and now I'm awaiting another replacement by the UPS people. Speed is not a hot button issue with verizon service apparently, but they are better than comcast.
Good thing about verizon is that they don't appear to cap bandwidth, and for that I respect them no matter how much garbage I get from a few of the tech support staff. Even most of those people are pretty nice. One of them actually talked linux with me for a half hour, and that was a breath of fresh air.
Verizon needs to realize that there are three to six times more linux operating systems in use now worldwide than all windows products combined. The US Army and US Navy have switched to linux systems and dumped windows. I'm shopping for another new desktop, and I'm only buying penguin computers. I won't buy "7" because I've seen the source code, and don't have a high opinion of it. Linux is more robust, and for whatever reason, MSFT still refuses to implement the System Five and UNIX security levels that are inherent to a safe Operating System, and a kernel component of unix. I don't see why not. NT is capable, but all suggestions to turn it 'on' are ignored.
I want to see verizon get with the program and start to support linux. After all, it's fifteen times cheaper to maintain, and three times less expensive to develop for. Verizon would never have to deal with spyware and viruses from its users ever again. One day I hope verizon will wake up.
In the meantime, it would be nice if the tech support at FiOS wouldn't misinform clients and customers about linux, macs, and having several computers in the home. There's nothing at all wrong with that. I just bought a netbook from you folks and I'm using that now to get online.

All I have to say about that is, "People fear what they do not know." Everyone has a comfort zone. Some people's comfort zone is larger than others, or encompasses different aspects of life. Most Windows users aren't comfortable with Mac or Unix operating systems. Most English speakers aren't comfortable with foreign languages. Most two-year-olds aren't comfortable with spinach.
    C'est la vie.

  • Official support for Google Calendar or at least o...

    Hello
I am using the _very_ useful program GCalSync (www.gcalsync.com). It is in early development, but works fine for synchronizing Google calendar with the built-in Nokia Calendar.
I know there are programs for synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook, but not everyone likes or uses that program, so a program that supports open standards would be very nice.
I would like Nokia to support the subscription of XMl/iCal feeds so I at least got one way syncronization.
Is there anyone else out there who needs this?

This sounds like a good idea to me, I've only recently started using Outlook - and only because I wanted to sync the calendar.
You should suggest it to Nokia directly, though this isn't the place to do it oddly enough lol, use the Contact Us link up there ^ or email the idea to [email protected]
I'm sure if enough people here agree with it, and suggest it too, they'll take notice if they haven't already

  • Add support for Google ChromeCast

Will you be adding support to the ChromeCast that Google announced today? Would be great to be able to easily stream music from all my devices to my receiver and tv.
Please see the Api information here: https://developers.google.com/cast/
Update: implementing ChromeCast is superior to using the Chrome browser plugin to move a tab with the Spotify web interface to your TV for multiple reasons. Most importantly:
     - You can stream higher fidelity
     - You can stream from every device, not only from a computer/laptop
     - You can control from multiple devices (so if I leave the room my wife can control Spotify with her phone)
If implemented correctly this would match the functionality of Sonos for a much lower price.
Update February 4th 2014: Okay, so Google has released the SDK now. Please start working on the functionality or at the very minimum give an update to the status...
Update February 19th 2014: 2,000 kudos, hundreds of replies (with more than a handful of cancelations). Apparently Spotify Germany has confirmed Chromecast support is coming. An update would be nice
Update March 24th 2014: 2,500 kudos and still no update. Cancelled my subscription today. Sorry, but if you don't listen to your paying customers we will have to speak with our wallets.

I registerred on the forums earlier today just to say this!! Wouldn't let me post though :)  Great idea!! Doubt it's hard to implement since it's an open source SDK. If not, it is a good enough reason for me to switch to Google Music All Access or whatever its called.

  • Lack of support for Google Chrome in forced-use email app

If this isn't resolved, I will cancel all Verizon services.  Am seeing a consistent decline in VZ services:
    1. ghosting and massive digital artifacts in HD programming, INCLUDING "Premium" channels
    2. HD set top box quality is very poor
    3. High pricing
    4. VZ has terminated use of preferred browser (Chrome, which is SECURE and much faster than any others) in new forced-use email client.
As expected, VZ is acting once again as if they were "the phone company".
    Not true.
Expect this post to be taken down quickly.

  • Number ported out from Google Voice to Verizon not working

I am a new Verizon Wireless customer and I ported my number from Google Voice to Verizon. (number ending in 8466). However, Verizon keeps saying that they are waiting on Google while Google says they have released the number.
    Message from Google:
Google Voice has successfully approved your request, but the carrier to whom you are porting hasn't completed their necessary action. If you are still having issues and your number doesn't successfully port in 2-3 business days, please contact your new carrier for support, as Google Voice is unable to take any additional action.
    Message from Verizon:
Your port request has been submitted, but no response has been received. We expect your port request will be completed within 10 business days.
So obviously there's something wrong here. According to Google they cannot do anything since they have released the number so now it's all on Verizon. I am hoping someone from Verizon can look into this ASAP and escalate if necessary. It's really annoying because at this point I'm not receiving any inbound calls or text messages. I can only make outbound calls and send SMS messages. I understand there is an X number of business days I need to wait but at this point I am paying for a service that I cannot use and no one is able to reach me.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

Thanks sprmankalel but I've already done that. That's where I got the message "Your port request has been submitted, but no response has been received. We expect your port request will be completed within 10 business days."
And when I check on Google Voice's end "Google Voice has successfully approved your request, but the carrier to whom you are porting hasn't completed their necessary action"
    Interesting huh?

  • Not receiving some texts from a ported google voice #

my google voice # was ported over to my droid x2 phone and i am recieving calls just fine but i am not getting any type of text messages from friends. where are they going and how do i get them to come over to me?

Do you mean that your ported your Verizon Wireless number to Google Voice? If so, it may take a few days for the port to complete and text routing to happen correctly.  If you still aren't getting messages after a few days, you'll want to contact Google and Verizon to make sure the port happened properly.  The messages MAY be showing up in your online Google account, and you could view them there, but it's not likely until the routing is corrected.
Or just that you directed your Google Voice number to ring on your Droid X2?  If so, you need to set up an application on your phone to recieve the messages.  Do you have the Google Voice app on your phone?  You should be able to read the messages in your online Google Voice account, and find instructions there to set it up on your phone.

  • Google Voice Widget Not Working in Safari 5.1 which is Adobe flash wmode transparent based

Google Voice Widget Not Working in Safari 5.1 which is Adobe flash with wmode transparent set. For that matter all flash text fields in Safari 5.1 are not working accross the web when wmode is set to transparent. This is a Safari bug! Other browsers work fine.
Well after much research Adobe flash text field with wmode transparent set is not working in Safari 5.1 when any flash object has the wmode set to "transparent", or "opaque". The problem is many site must layer flash objects with html so the wmode transparent must be used.
Affecting sites like BEST BUY, WALMART, CVS, STAPLES, Chechout their flash based weekly ads and find one that you need to update the quantity in the flash pop-up and the text field with keyboard strokes will not work. Flash text fields were all working fine until several month ago when Safari rolled out 5.1 working for Google Voice Flash based widget which uses the wmode transparent. HELP!

If not working for you, try clearing your cache to remove any old, non working versions.
Test on some other machine besides yours.
Code looks fine and seems to work.

  • Calendar sync broken for Google Apps accounts

The Calendar no longer syncs with my Google Apps account; not in either direction.  It pops up the sync notification and reports success, but nothing changes.  I tried removing and adding the account.  This actually broke in 1.2.1, but by the time I noticed, I assumed a fix was around the corner.  1.3.1 didn't help.  I even created a brand new test account using the newly enhanced support for Google Apps.  Mail and contacts work fine, but the calendar won't budge.  Palm, I can give you the test account to play with if you'd like.
My standard Gmail account calendar syncs just fine.  Saw the troubleshooting for standard account calendars and tried playing with the invitation options in my Apps account to no avail.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

#1 is good already.  I tried changing the other differences: Default View was month, Location had my zip code, Automatically Add Invitations was set to Yes.
#2 using network settings correctly had me in Central, but it said Regina, Canada.  Changed it to Chicago and rebooted, but I'm still not syncing either way on my account nor the test account.
Here's the really odd thing.  My Pre has all four of your entires on the test account from the 3rd and 4th.  I just tried creating entries for the test account from both my Pre and desktop, and I'm not seeing any syncing.  I've forced it about five times over the past 20 minutes.
Sounds like we're down to it either being homebrew's fault or something stuck in my launch day profile that would survive a wipe.  I wiped my phone under 1.3.1 to undo a lot of homebrew cruft, but I still can't say I ever tested this in a virgin state.  Enh.  Go ahead and close the ticket.  My workaround is fine with me.  Feel free to keep using the test account for other stuff if you want.

  • Nokia 6110 Navigator - PC Suite SMS/MMS Support

Hi, I'm not quite sure which forum to post this in so I'll post it in all. I'm running Windows Vista and Nokia PC Suite 7. Everytime I turn on my computer it tells me that it needs to install driver software for my Bluetooth Peripheral Device. Everytime I try to do this, it fails because it can't find any drivers. Everytime I open PC Suite it tells me that I don't have SMS/MMS support for Pc Suite, and to go to help and install it, so I do, but when I open my messages through PC Suite it tells me that I don't have it installed and to install it. It does this over and over. Any help?

    Hi,
After connecting your device, have you checked this?
Goto Nokia PC Suite's Help > Reinstall PC suite support.  If this option is not greyed out, reinstall the pc suite support on your phone.  Also make sure that on your phone's Application Manager, MMSSync & Contacts Group DS Plugins are not installed.  Even you can check this with Nokia OVI Suite [Make sure that your phone is compatible with Nokia OVI Suite],
If yes, connect your phone with nokia ovi suite, it will check for support software installation for the connected phone, if it found any, it will ask you to install the same.

  • I have been a customer with Verizon, since 1996. Recently, my husband has been added onto my account. We have both been experience drop calls. My husband contact Tech support for over 2 weeks. We were pretty upset to be paying a lot of money for a service

I have been a customer with Verizon, since 1996. Recently, my husband has been added onto my account. We have both been experience drop calls. My husband contact Tech support for over 2 weeks. We were pretty upset to be paying a lot of money for a service that didn't work. Verizon advised us that would upgrade both of our phones (to see if that solved the problem). Ok...this is where Verizon has forgotten customer service rules. He order 2 phone...one for himself, one for me. 1st the wrong address on the package..Fedex couldn't deliver...2nd...missing condo number Fedex couldn't deliver again...(2nd call to Verizon)...3rd package was finally deliver with 1 phone...missing my phone. Contacted verizon rep...reorder my phone again..but sorry we cannot give the same price as quoted on 21April...even though...its our mistake...Ok...Ok..what a surprise..but we can do this...after 65 minutes...found a price that was a little bit more...fine...just order the phone....I reordered phone on 28April...on the April 29...no email..so I can Verizon for the 4times in a few days..sorry your order was delay due to our Fraud dept. OK...talked to fraud dept...ok..account is good..will release phone and ship. OK...Next day, no email with deliver confimation. Contact Verizon 5 times now...sorry..your order was cancelled...YES...cancelled again...2nd time now...but we can reorder...OK...sorry but we cannot honor that price that was quoted..really...agent messed up...again...but we can do this for you....I don't understand...your mistake...ALL the times...
Strange ...how my order gets cancelled twice by Verizon's mistake....yet you cannot honor prices that your agents quoted!!!
I didn't reorder the phone....I cannot in good faith same with a company that does not stand behind their own mistakes...and worse...they make the poor customer pay for it...
I will not be renewing my contact...its time to Cricket Wirless...which my sister-in-law loves for half the cost....

I hope that you aren't complaining about dropped calls INSIDE your condo because no amount of switching or upgrading devices will solve that.
VZW will not guarantee service inside of any structure. There are just too many factors. If the problem is inside then you might want to look at one of the following:
1.) Network Extender (may cause issues for others in a condo or apartment style setting)
2.) A Google Voice Number (Free with a Gmail email address), downloading Google Hangouts Dialer and forwarding your calls to the GVN so that you can make and receive calls over Wi-Fi.
