Verizon or Apple activation server down?

I spent about 3 hours in a NY city area Apple store yesterday (Saturday November 3, 2012), attempting to pick up my iPhone 5.  Apple said the Verizon servers were down, Verizon said there was nothing wrong on their end.  Has there been a issue recently?  I even attempted to just purchase the phone and I would activate it myself (as I travel frequently), Apple said they could not do that because they could not sell the phone without Verizon knowing the phone was sold.  Apple explained that they actually activate the phone when its sold, but they have to communicate with Verizon to let them know this (action) has occured.
My basic question, was/is Verizon having an issue activating phones?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

i work for an indirect agent so i will give it to you straight. Verizon has servers in the basement of a building in new york....its a data exchange server system. it links two systems together. from what i have heard is the basement has been flooded since Wednesday and it crapped out yesterday. they say its an "update" to make it sound scheduled but it was not. They immediately started using "older" back up systems and got a lot of the country back online but at very very slow speeds. I think i have seen one email today saying they are still experiencing "lag" today on the network. Verizon does have hundreds of people working on these issues and of course they hate the fact they are losing money every min the problem persists. just call your local store before going and ask if they are able to upgrade or activate today in the store.

  • Is the apple activation server down?

I reset my phone 4 to get rid of previous settings and things and now it says "activation server down you can connect to itunes or try again later" I connected to intunes and tried everything apple told me to do. I also went to verizon store. I called apple and they said the activation server was down , but It has been this way for 2 days . Is it really down?

I believe a sim card is required to activate an iPhone.

  • APPLE ACTIVATION SERVER DOWN!

How long is the Apple Activation server for the iPhone going to be down?

It'll clear up. Hopefully sooner rather than later, indeed. A lot of people thought it would be a simple update and it's caused extreme issues in their workday, such as people who are on call and now are totally unavailable.
You'll want to stay connected to Wifi, or to iTunes (if you're trying in iTunes) and keep trying as often as you can stand it.

Look in the hosts file on your computer (as you didn't say what kind of computer and OS you have I can't tell you where it is, but Google will help). if you see any lines that contain gs.apple.com delete them and your phone should be able to be activated.

  • Is the Apple activation server down? march 27th

I am trying to activate my iphone 4 after wiping all my data from it and i get this message
We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time.
The solutions online seem to suggest that its not me but the server.
I am currently in Armenia, and do not have access to a sim card.

  • IFrustrated with IBrick.....AT&T now blaming Apple Activation Server

Just got off the phone with AT&T tech person re: Iphone activation issue everyone is dealing with and was told she had never even seen an Iphone yet and that they had determined it was an Apple Activation Server problem not passing data back to AT&T to allow the process to complete.
Maybe folks at Apple Iphone need to find a new I-Job tomorrow.

  • AT&T Activation server down

So, I'd been having problems with my phone where the iPod would stop playing while I was using the WiFi and restarting it hadn't helped, so I thought I should try a full Restore.
I've been syncing, so no worries about losing information. The software downloaded into iTunes and everything went OK until it got to the re-activation part.
"iPhone activations are not available at this time due to scheduled AT&T system maintenance... please connect again after 3pm EST Sunday"
Well, that's just great isn't it. Now I've got a $600 paperweight all day.
HOW ABOUT TELLING US OF *SCHEDULED* MAINTENANCE *BEFORE* THE RESTORE PROCESS STARTS..?
It wouldn't be hard to check that the AT&T activation server was alive before the process started and to give us an option box that said when we would be able to complete the process before we started.

System maintenance should not bring the site down for up to 24 hours, any IT network worth its salt should be able to handle rolling upgrades. And they've had several system maintenance sessions in the last 2 weeks, not just this one. FYI, this system maintenance is not just for iPhone activations, AT&T's entire account system is down.
Yes, the sun is shining where I live, it'd be nice to be outside listening to my new iPod that I paid $600 for.
It's not "whining", it's called "constructive criticism". Sorry to offend your sensibilities.
But "Want some cheese with that whine?" is a good one. Wait til you get into high school this fall, you're going to learn a ton more good cut-downs like that!

  • Activation Server down?

After iTunes spent 2 HOURS downloading 3.0, now all I get is a message that my iPhone can't be updated because Apple's Activation Server is "unavailable". Can anyone tell me how to get around this or is it happening to everyone?

I'm having the same problem. More than likely that I won't be able to update before work. My guess is that either they're really overloaded with people downloading the update or people are having serious problems with the update and Apple paused the downloading until they have a better handle on what's wrong. Either way I guess I'll have to wait it out.

  • IPhone activation server down?

    Hello,
Just tried to sync my iPhone and activate the new sim for it, but I'm getting the message on iTunes that activations are unavailable at this time.
I've just finished my contract with O2 UK and am now with Virgin Mobile UK. I've successfully unlocked my iPhone. I am trying to activate the iPhone with the Virgin Mobile UK SIM in it.
Help! Are the servers actually down?

I've had a 2G for a couple of years now and have probably reinstalled, activated about 10 times.
I called last night and a sr. level tech told me there were no server issues noted.
They told me sometimes it takes a while for the 2G activations as the system is geared more towards the newe technology. I mentioned how that was a funny statement as from reviewing my bills, I am still paying the same amount for service, even though they have decided to downgrade their support. I have been montht to month on my bill for quite some time now with no contract and mentioned that now might be a good time to switch carriers after using cingular-att for the past 10= years. He didn't flinch.
I was able to activate around midnight CST last night and again this morning.
I have never been an apple fan even though I own a couple of their products. Their nickel and diming and control issues may just finally push me away, no matter how great the iphone 4G may be. Good luck with the activations guys!!!
