Verizon's supposed voluntary agreement to unlock phones not under contract!

1) I recently read that Verizon had agreed to unlock phones that no longer had a contact attached to them, but when I called the representative said no, only phones to be used for international travel can be unlocked, not for going to another carrier.  If they have agreed to unlock phones no longer in contract, there should be no stipulations about how that phone is used.  Anyone know the agency to whom such questions should be queried?
2) How does a single line plan work with several lines?  It would seem to me that if 3 people on the same line would have no way of knowing what call is for them they would answer every ring.  How would several people use a single line.  Perhaps it's just me, but such a plan seems ludicrous.  Can anyone explain how such a plan works for more than 1 person??????

I can only go by what the Verizon agent told me about the single line plan, which did not make sense, which is why I asked the question on this forum.  She explained, as a response to my asking about a family plan, the single line that could be used by several people.  My question to her was, the same as my question on this forum....how would one know who a call was for, and why would anyone consider several people using phones on a single line????????????
I wanted my LG basic cell phone unlocked for my neice to use, because adding another line on Verizon was more expensive on than any other carrier.  It would be more economical for her to get her own service, but she does not want to be locked into a contract. I have 2 perfectly good phones so why should I have to buy another?
I would leave Verizon now were it not for the contract.  I was told by the agent I could go to a cell phone repair store and get it unlocked but Verizon would not do it.  After speaking with someone at a cell phone repair store, he told me if  I had an international phone, it did not need unlocking, it was already unlocked. One of the out of contract phones I have is an international phone.

  • How to delete a device all-together if its not under contract using Verizon web page

I want to remove an iPad that wasn't purchased with subsidies from Verizon.  It was just bought outright from a store and later activated for cellular data.  We don't use it outside of the house enough to need cellular data plus all of our iPhones are wifi hotspots. I tried to drop it in the my account area.  I could temporary cancel and report it lost or stollen, but it says it will reactivate in 30 days and shows as temporarily deactivated.  Why no "remove this item" button that just EASILY deletes and terminates service on items that are not under contract?  Surely removing this non-contract item will not cost me anything.

You have to call customer service at 1-800-922-0204 or *611 to cancel a line of service with Verizon Wireless. You can also go to a corporate store and cancel there. You can't cancel online.

I answer a question on the post. I am not assuming what plan they have, or should have or may have had in the past.
If you are under a contract for two years since the phone is now paid off ( subsidized device) the cost of the plan does not get reduced, based on the original posters post.
There for my answer is 100% correct for the facts known in the post.
Would a, Could a or Should a has nothing to do with my reply.
Unless the poster states exactly what plan they are on the only reasonable reply was the short and sweet one I gave. If they continue as is, without looking into plan changes (again no plan was listed) there is no reduction since paying off the subsidized device.
    Good Luck
Since there is more than one plan available and since there is one plan available that does qualify for a discount once a subsidized phone is paid off, your original reply is not and could never be 100% correct, maybe 50% correct. The only reasonable response (also short and sweet) is "It depends on your current plan and/or whether you are willing to switch to the one plan that is eligible for a discount, otherwise no you might not get a discount."

  • LG G3 Unlocked phone not able to use to cellular data

Hello I am using LG G3 Unlocked phone and my carrier is AT&T. I am able to connect to WiFi and everything is fine about it. But when I don't have WiFi accessible, the cellular data is not working. I made sure that the Cellular Data icon is turned on and the preferred network mode is set to already set to "GSM/WCDMA auto".  The other preffered network modes were 1. GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto, 2. WCDMA only, 3. GSM only. I can manually change and make it stay at WCDMA only. If I try to keep in the 1st option, it reverts backs to its original "GSM/WCDMA auto" status. The Access point names shows AT&T PTA and inside that it shows a preview of plenty other things like PORT, PROXY, USER NAME, PASSWORD and none of them can be edited. Please advice me on how I can use my cellular data.

You are right Glimmerman76. I am not able to link up to the LTE thing in my phone. It is currently using preffered Network mode as GSM/WCDMA auto and I cant change it to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto in the settings.  Could you please suggest me on how I can get the LTE in my phone? Do I need to update my phone details with my carrier or do I need to make any changes to the new APN that I have created? Please advise me on this. I appreaciate your help. Thanks,Hari

  • Unlocked phone not working, requires activation

I have a Verizon Tour 9650. The phone was previously activated and used on the Verizon network in the States. I successfully unlocked it using a MEP code. Under Option > Advanced > SIM Card, when I type MEPD, it says "Network: Inactive".
After doing this it showed "Activated Required" at the top of the home screen. So I dialed ##000000 and changed the MDN and IMSI_S to the phone number on my SIM card.
It still displays a triangle at the top of the home screen. When I try dialing it gives a message "Your phone is not activated. Please call *611" On calling this number it gives me the same message.
I have put it on 'Global' under Network Technology.
It shows 1x at the top right, and sometimes it switches to 3G.
The Mobile Network shows Roaming next to it.
Any suggestions on what I can do to make this phone work?
    Thanks,
    R

That means the phone was hacked to unlock it and it has now re-locked to the original carrier.  Only the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
After performing an illegitimate unlock, it may no longer be possible to get it unlocked correctly.

  • Unlocked phone not picking up telstra sim card

Hi I just recently got givin a Samsung Pocket, it is unlocked (I have checked on other sites), but it won't pick up my Telstra sim card, its saying I have no service.
I would appreciate any help, thank you.

    Hi
If it is a Pre-Paid phone, you can find information on how to unlock at https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Pre-Paid-Mobiles-KB/How-to-unlock-your-Pre-Paid-Mobile/ta-p/67548

  • Unlocked phone not working

I have an iphone4 that has been unlocked and I have tested it with a different sim-card in Sweden, it worked fine. Now I am in Sri Lanka and it doesn't work with any of the sim-cards here. What should I do? Is my phone somehow "locked" to Sweden only?

Was the unlock approved by original carrier ? If yes, then once unlocked it stays unlocked as per policy of the Carrier. You need to check with them as to why it is not functioning in Sri Lanka.
In some countries, iPhone + SIM is paired by (the Sevice Provider) Carrier in their data base. Check for regulations in Sri Lanka.

  • Stuck on Apple Logo - unlocked phone, NOT jailbroken - HELP PLEASE!!

I have an unlocked 3GS and it is NOT jailbroken. It ran out of battery last night and when i charged it this morning it has got stuck on the apple logo wont do anything else. My computer doesnt pick it up either! Can somebody HELP please!!!
nb. I havent updated it for a while so it is running on a 3. something operating system.

    Howdy Loylabel,
It sounds like you are unable to use your iPad because it will not get past the Apple logo. You've done just about everything I would have done so far. I would next reset the device while you have it connected to the wall charger that it came with:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If that does not get it going again, I would next put the device into Recovery Mode, and then restore it just 1 more time:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

The only way to access the iPhone is by entering the correct passcode. If you cannot remember it or have disabled the iPhone then you will need to restore to factory settings via recovery mode as shown in the article below:

  • HT201328 Unlocking an iphone if not under contract any more

I ended up my contract and canceled my account with Telus Canada. They can't unlock my phone as I don't have an account with them anymore. Who should I contact to pay to have my iphone unlocked?

Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can authorize it's unlocking.
If you do not meet their requirements there is nothing you can do.

  • Switching phones #'s for phones on my plan under contract?

My husband recently took a position with his company that will give him a cell phone.  He would like to port his phone # over to his company account
(which is also Verizon).  I have an added line on the account already that is not under contract.  Could I delete that line and use the other phone # to fill out the remaining contract on my husbands phone?

No, you can't swap contracts between lines on the same Verizon Wireless account.

  • Verizon iPad 3 has no LTE coverage unless under contract?

I just spent a frustrating 30 minutes with 2 Verizon wireless reps over the issue of LTE coverage for my iPad 3 at my house.
Basically, I was told that I don't have LTE coverage because iPads are "prepaid" and not under contract. Therefore I can't use the 4D LTE button on their website to determine LTE signal strength or coverage on their  map and instead I need to click on The Prepaid button which does not show LTE coverage. The Apple Store website links to the Verizon Map with the LTE button pre-selected and it was the info I used to make the choice away from AT&T.
Has anyone else experienced this situation? I spoke to 2 reps including a supervisor named Tim from the Colorado Center who refused to give his last name.
What do I do now?   Is Apple aware of this?   Has anyone else experienced this???

Thanks Meg for you interest in my plight.  I will attempt to clarify further.
At my location of interest, I get only 2 bars and 95% of the time my Verizon iPad 3 only gets slow 3G service. Every once in a while, at random and for short periods, LTE service latches on but doesn't last long. Allowing Data Roaming makes no difference.
In order to determine what was wrong I first called Verizon to make sure it was not a temporary problem with one of their towers. If they had told me their equipment was in top shape and confirmed that my signal was supposed to be strong in my area (as per their coverage map) then my next stop would have been the Apple Store down the street.
I am familiar with the map at:
    http://www.verizonwireless.com/wireless-coverage-area-map.shtml
That is the map linked-to by the Apple Store and the one I used to make sure Verizon offered strong LTE coverage in my area.  I live in the middle of a major metro area (33143, Miami-Dade, Florida) and selecting the "4D LTE button" button on the Verizon wireless coverage area map indicates complete, darkest color, top tier, strong coverage for my area and miles around.  Based on this information I decided to purchase my iPad 3 with the Verizon circuitry.
The surprise started when the Verizon rep stated that their internal system showed no LTE coverage in my area for Prepaid plans AT ALL.  As proof they indicated that as a Prepaid customer I could NOT click on the 4D LTE button on the Verizon wireless coverage area map because that button only applied to contract customers.  I had to click on the Prepaid button and that was the end of that.  This was confirmed by the supervisor called Tim from the Colorado Branch office. No further recourse.
So I am upset and a bit confused at the moment. At the time of purchase Apple sends me to a Verizon map with the 4D LTE button pre-selected ... but that's not the button you are supposed to use according to Verizon. I am in the middle of a prime city with top Verizon LTE coverage (alledgedly) but can't access it unless I get a 2-year contract.  Can this be considered bait and switch?  Any class-action lawyers out there?
    I just want my LTE.
    Caveat Emptor?

  • I have an iphone 5 that was originally with verizon but has been unlocked now by them and the phone is still under the apple warranty, if I go to replace for power button malfunctioning, will they give replace it with an unlocked phone as well?

I currently have an iphone 5 that was verizon locked but has been unlocked by them because of my contract, the phone is still under the apple warranty but the power button is not working, if it was the case that apple has to replace it with another phone, will they replace with an unlocked phone now?
    thanks

The SIM Lock is stored on the Apple Activation Server - if it has been correctly unlocked by a network then this would have been done on the Activation Server.
When you get your replacement handset through Apple they mirror the activation server details of your existing handset and the current SIM LOCK status is mirror'd onto the new device.
(100% Accurate - done mine 2 weeks before christmas due to original 5 sleep button stopped working)

  • I brought a iPhone (A1429) unlocked, sent it as a gift to my mate in Arizona, she is on the Verizon Network which in CDMA Will this phone work for her or have I just wasted $900 :/

I brought a iPhone (A1429) unlocked, sent it as a gift to my mate in Arizona, she is on the Verizon Network which in CDMA Will this phone work for her or have I just wasted $900 :/ I have done all the research and to me it looks like it should work.
Can anyone give me a difintive answer please.

Yes but I have brought the A1429 where as the information you provided states that it's the A1428.
The unlocked iPhone 5 is model A1428. For details on LTE support see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint. Learn more about the unlocked iPhone
And Apple websight also states that the A1429 is both CDMA and GSM here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939#iPhone5
