Verizon USB 720 evdo

I have not had much luck searching support here to find an answer to this. Last week I set up an EVDO account with Verizon using their USB 720 transceiver. When I plug this into the Intel Octocore that I work with on the road, it pops right up and is able to communicate at high speed.
In my office on my G5 quad, and on my G4 Powerbook, however I have to use the supplied VZAccess Manager from Verizon.
Is the support for these devices tied to Intel hardware, or am I just missing the boat somewhere.
By the way all systems I have tried this on are running OSX 10.4.11

I have the same problem. I purchased a Verizon U720 and dutifully ran the WWAN Support update 1.0 prior to using the U720. VZAccess manager would not recognize the card and attempting to use the "Internet Connect" application created a authorization failure (ergo wrong password).
I spoke with Verizon on two different occassions but we had no success.
I checked the software author's (SmithMicro) page and I had no luck.
My solution was this. I installed VZAccess Manager on my home built PC. I plugged my U720 into the PC and I was able to log on to Verizon's EVDO network.
Then, I went back to my Mac, uninstalled VZAccess Manager and made sure the following settings were in my "Internet Connect" application.
Number: #777
Name: Phone number for the card as displayed on my purchase receipt (note: the number that autopopulated was the wrong number)
password: vzw
When I clicked the "connect" button, I was connected cleanly and I now can use my EVDO card to access the internet on my MacBook Pro.
I know this doesn't solve the problem of how to get VZAccess Manager working but at least I have internet access.
I hope that this helps someone else out.

  • Verizon USB 720 - router help please!

Hope this isn't a repeat - I searched & couldn't find anything on my Modem.
I live in a rural area and use the Verizon USB 720 modem for my home PC.  I just got a Dell laptop and want to connect it to the internet via my Verizon service.  I heard I can do this with a Linksys router.  Which one do I need, and what else is required?  I don't want to pay $$$ & then find out it can't be done. Also, how far can I go with my laptop and still have an internet connection?  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes. It is possible. Technically it is an access point you'll need. But you can use a router as well. Routers are usually cheaper but more limited then the versatile Linksys WAP... devices. If you want to use a router you should check this thread.
The other alternative could be to get a wireless adapter for your desktop and create an ad-hoc wireless connection between the desktop and the laptop. Basically, your desktop would then play access point. I cannot tell how good this works. I think it should work without problems but I have never tried it myself. Moreover, you may be limited to a single wireless connection, i.e. a single ad-hoc wireless connection from the desktop at each time (in case you want to get a second laptop in the future). But I am not sure on this either.

  • I can't get my usb 720 to open the internet with windows 8.1 even though it says it's connected.

I just down loaded my software for the vz usb 720 modem on a new windows 8.1 computer and it says it is connected but the internet won't come on. It says firewall settings my have to be changed (921) Has anyone had this problem and is there a software upgrade for windows 8.1 that I need to use, or is it so out of date it will not work with 8.1 at all?

        Morffun,
I appreciate you reaching out. I do apologize, but that device is not compatible with Windows 8.1 software. If you wanted to explore other options for wireless broadband devices, we have plenty available. You can view them here: http://vz.to/YuBwCW.

  • Has anyone been able to internet share when the internet source is a verizon USB modem?

    I'm on a macbook 3,1 running OSX 10.6.8
internet is coming from a verizon USB modem/dongle model UMW190.
I have gone through the steps for internet sharing - created a network, etc.
My other devices (a roku box and an ipad) are able to see the wifi network i created.  prompts for a password, and i'm able to connect with great signal strength, but no internet!
Tried every problem solving suggestion i could find on the messageboards.
No firewill.  Changed the IP address. restarted, etc etc.
nothing can seem to get my internet working on the other devices.
If i leave it to automatic, the IP address i get starts with 169. and a message reads
"AirPort has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.156.212 and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
Could this be because the internet is coming from a USB dongle?  Is my computer too old?
Has anyone been able to get their internet sharing working using a verizon USB dongle?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Update: For the heck of it, i tried connecting using my ipod touch - and it works! able to connect to the network and get on the internet.
(that was after i changed the IP from automatic 169 to the IP address of the USB modem.)
The ipad still won't connect (i'm told it may be due to a WEP non-compatibility)
and i'm not sure what's up with the Roku...
but it does work on one device.

  • Verizon USB 727 driver?

Just got a Verizon USB 727 data card. Works great. The Verizon installation guide says that you can use the provided Verizon install CD to setup and use your data card but that Apple has all the drivers necessary on the Apple support web site. Can't find them??? And if you (by any chance) used the Apple Driver , how is it working compare to the Verizon Manager app?
    Thanks
    F

    Chopstick,
I still do. I use it every day. I have not had any coverage problems so far.
It's small and it's fast. I like Verizon as well (first time customer).
I am sure that Apple will come with the driver for the U727, it's only a matter of time. For now I am using the verizonManager software.

  • Verizon USB Modem 720

Has anyone been able to use Verizon Wireless Broadband internet service? I subscribed, but am unable to connect using the USB720 modem they supplied. When using their software to setup, I get as far as the accounts being set up and the application quits. Also the Access Manager part of the program does not open at all. I have tried setting up using Setup Assistant, but no luck there either.

    Hi,
I have Verizon wireless broadband but it goes in the PC Slot, Kyocera # KPC650. I have a PowerBook. When installing it with their software, it went smoothly and I was on. If I was you, I'd go back to where you got the modem from and have them make sure your system and the USB720 are compatible. They were very helpful with me... different ones work in different machines. Have your system specs handy and the OSX version, that will help with the correct one for you.
    Enjoy

  • Verizon usb wireless printer

I use Verizon's usb modem for my internet connection. I am having trouble trying to hook up a wireless printer to my laptop? Can anyone help me with this? I have a router but I'm not sure how to get the laptop, printer, router and modem to "talk" to each other so the printer will work. Is there a specific modem for wireless connection to a printer?

I don't know anything about that router, but can you plug your printer directly into the router? I have my printer plugged into my CradlePoint router and can print from any computer connected wirelessly to the router.

  • Have a Verizon (usb) Aircard - Can I use with ipad 2?

I have a Verizon Aircard (with USB connection) that I use for inet for my laptop. Can I use this usb aircard to connect to the inet with my ipad 2?

Only a small amount of power is provided to the iPad's dock, so it probably won't provide enough power to your card (most third-party memory card readers don't work with the kit it as they need too much power) - and unless the card transmits wirelessly it won't be detected as a network either.

  • USB 720

I did not see my problem in any forums.  I have re-installed the VZAccess Manager Version 7.2.1.2 again.  I previously had Version 6.6.2 that came with modem.  My problem is that the modem continuously disconnects.  I have Windows XP  Service Pack 3.  After I get so tired I cannot stand it, I check to see if there are appropriate connections, which there are and no conflicts in Device Manager.  So, I completely un-install Version 7 and start over with Version 6.  Then I have problems again with disconnection so I think maybe I will upgrade again to Version 7 and I keep popping off again and again.  Can someone help?

First you may want to delete your number from the device description, it is there for all to see.
When I set up a friends system, it took me many calls to get it working, when you delete the program, be sure to delete any generic drivers that may have shown up also.
What is your signal strength before you hit connect?
Also, once you delete everything and go to reload the manager, place the USB FOB in a different USB port if possible. We always were getting a conflict until I switched ports.

  • Intel Centrino Advanced–N + WiMAX 6250 hardware compatible with Verizon 4G LTE?

    Hello all,
Can an existing Intel internal (laptop) card be used to connect (with necessary VZ software) to the Verizon 4G network  WITHOUT ADDED HARDWARE? (USB modem or internal card)
My feeling is that the two are incompatible, but I do not know with any certainty.
    Solid answers are appreciated. Thanks.

To; NVRambo, toughbook, & M91-30....thanks ya'll for your help.  I have received my new Dell computer and have learned the following:  The wireless internet connection on my new computer works fine with my existing Verizon USB 720 modem and current Verizon plan.  The Intel Centrino WIMAX 6250 is of no value without changing plans from Verizon to (Sprint? AT&T?).  I have disabled the WIMAX feature on my new computer and will only use it in the future if I decide to change from my current  ISP to another provider.  As for whether my current USB 720 modem  will work with the new Verizon 4G LTE, that is still an open question.  As Rambo suggests, I SUSPECT that if I am interested in Verizon's 4G, I will have to purchase a new 4G modem, and sign up for a new 4G contract at whatever that enhanced feature price is.  As for now, my internet connection seems to be working just fine but I obviously am enjoying no benefit from the WIMAX feature as it is currently disabled on my new computer.  Thanks again for all your help.  Ken

  • Connecting an iBook to Verizon EVDO

My brother has just bought an iBook G4 at CompUSA.
He is interested in getting Verizon EVDO Internet.
Given that he has 10.4 Tiger, and bluetooth installed, what would he need to get/do in order to make this work.
It is my understanding that Verizon wants him to get a Powerbook, so that he can use a PCMCIA interface card, but IIRC, it is possible that with the right bluetooth phone, he could connect the two, and use the cell phone as the transciever that interfaces with verizon's network, and passes data back and forth with the notebook.
    Questions:
    1. Is it possible?
    2. Does it require "Hacking" to break limits that Verizon sets in the phone.
    3. Is there a USB based EVDO adapter?
    4. what kind of transfer speeds would he get, and would it be sufficient to play Euchre on Yahoo Games?
(Ignore the attached information about my system, what I know about my brother's iBook is that is has bluetooth+Airport Extreme, Quad format superdrive, 14" screen, 60 GB HDD, and he bought it new at CompUSA yesterday.)
Thank you for your assistance, I will award points to anyone who contributes useful information/links to this thread.

Yes, all have Bluetooth. The 4 phones are:
    LG VX8100
    LG VX9800
    Motorola RAZR V3c
    Motorola 813
Verizon just recently allowed access to their EVDO system using these phones. (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1918150,00.asp)
I can use Bluetooth or a data cable from RPI Wireless (http://www.rpiwireless.com) or the data cable in the Verizon V Cast kit. The big problem is no one I can reach at Verizon or Apple, either at a store or over the phone, knows anything about this. I'm trying to find out how to make the connection to the EVDO system once the phone to iBook connection has been established. I would think this knowledge would be valuable to Apple since neither the iBook G4 nor the 12 inch Powerbook G4 have PCMCIA slots. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
