Verizon USB internet w/ BEFW11S4 V2 Router

I would like to bridge my USB internet connection through my computer to the router so I can pickup the internet with other computers in the house.  Is this possible with this equipment?  If so, how?

  • Verizon USB 720 - router help please!

Hope this isn't a repeat - I searched & couldn't find anything on my Modem.
I live in a rural area and use the Verizon USB 720 modem for my home PC.  I just got a Dell laptop and want to connect it to the internet via my Verizon service.  I heard I can do this with a Linksys router.  Which one do I need, and what else is required?  I don't want to pay $$$ & then find out it can't be done. Also, how far can I go with my laptop and still have an internet connection?  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes. It is possible. Technically it is an access point you'll need. But you can use a router as well. Routers are usually cheaper but more limited then the versatile Linksys WAP... devices. If you want to use a router you should check this thread.
The other alternative could be to get a wireless adapter for your desktop and create an ad-hoc wireless connection between the desktop and the laptop. Basically, your desktop would then play access point. I cannot tell how good this works. I think it should work without problems but I have never tried it myself. Moreover, you may be limited to a single wireless connection, i.e. a single ad-hoc wireless connection from the desktop at each time (in case you want to get a second laptop in the future). But I am not sure on this either.

  • Has anyone been able to internet share when the internet source is a verizon USB modem?

    I'm on a macbook 3,1 running OSX 10.6.8
internet is coming from a verizon USB modem/dongle model UMW190.
I have gone through the steps for internet sharing - created a network, etc.
My other devices (a roku box and an ipad) are able to see the wifi network i created.  prompts for a password, and i'm able to connect with great signal strength, but no internet!
Tried every problem solving suggestion i could find on the messageboards.
No firewill.  Changed the IP address. restarted, etc etc.
nothing can seem to get my internet working on the other devices.
If i leave it to automatic, the IP address i get starts with 169. and a message reads
"AirPort has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.156.212 and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
Could this be because the internet is coming from a USB dongle?  Is my computer too old?
Has anyone been able to get their internet sharing working using a verizon USB dongle?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Update: For the heck of it, i tried connecting using my ipod touch - and it works! able to connect to the network and get on the internet.
(that was after i changed the IP from automatic 169 to the IP address of the USB modem.)
The ipad still won't connect (i'm told it may be due to a WEP non-compatibility)
and i'm not sure what's up with the Roku...
but it does work on one device.

  • How to connect my USB internet modem to iPad2?

    hi,
I am looking for way to connect my USB internet modem stick to iPad2; I understand one way is to get a pocket Internet hub and thru that I can connect via WiFi.
But is there any way that we can directly connect the USB modem to iPad and use it?

A 3G wireless router may do the job. I have used that years ago.

  • Bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet and Customer Service

I had an extremely bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet service and I will never use Verizon again.
In August 2014, I called and installed the Verizon Fios Internet and phone bundle. I asked the customer agent several times if I will be charged anything before the installation of the Internet and phone service. She said, 'No, we will only start charging after the Internet and phone are installed at your apartment'. I went to the store and picked up the router and phone and installed it at home by myself. The router did not work. I called Tech support and they said it will take several days for another available agent to come and look into the issue. I decided to discontinue the service and closed the account that same night.
At the end of the month, I received a bill of $80 of activation fee for the internet service. Nothing was ever activated, my internet router did not work, and I got charged an activation fee for a service that I did not even start using. From August to December, I called customer service over 10 times and some of them said they will waive it while the others said it's a non-refundable activation fee. One lady said, 'Ma'am, the activation fee starts when you placed the order, the warehouse received it and packed the router in the boxes....' Isn't that ridiculous? If that's the case, please ask all your customer representative to say a clause before new customers open their account: Are you aware that you will be charged a non-refundable activation fee once you open the account regardless of whether or not you use the service or not.
So after 3 months (November 2014), I decided to get out of all these troubles and paid off my $80 activation fee. They put the bill in the collection agency and I called them and paid the overdue balance. Then in December 2014, I received a statement saying I have a $3.11 overdue balance. The collection agency told me that they will charge me for the whole activation fee and a $3 transaction fee for the transaction. So now Verizon came back and said I owed them the $3 because I paid the collection agency their transaction fee.
I am very disappointed and furious about the whole Verizon operating system. Charging a customer for an activation fee for a service s/he has not consumed or used does not make any business sense. In addition, they do not know how to coordinate with the collection agency on overdue bills. Give the customer a heads-up that they will be charged a transaction fee on top of the overdue balance, and that transaction fee does not count towards clearing the balance.
I have completely lost my confidence in Verizon albeit the many good feedback from my friends.

    Hi crystallau52,
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Booted off Verizon Fios Internet when use VOIP phone.

When I use my VOIP phone while on the internet (I use Verison FIOS Internet), I get booted off the internet.  I have done what tech support said to do which was to do a hard reboot of the router but after a short while it does it again.  They had no more answers for me than that.  Does anyone else know what can be done?
    Thanks.

I have Fios Internet, TV and Phone and so I HAVE to use the Verizon router made by Actiontec. My Mac Book Pro is Leopard based.
Does the router have the latest firmware? Very important.
The problem is that I am paying for 20mbps service and getting about 6 to 8. This is regardless of where I am in physical relation to the router/modem and whether or not I am the only computer connected to the internet.
How are you measuring your speed?
PLEASE help. I have contacted Verizon and they have no ideas that help. I cannot watch Netflix or Boxee and even regular internet pages load painfully slowly.
I have a cable modem that runs at 10Mb/s and internet pages load instantly. On this Verizon DSL I am currently using, which creeps along at a mere 3 Mb/s, pages internet pages load instantly.
Even if your connection is 6 to 8 Mb/s, pages should load instantly, and streaming should work properly.
Clearly, you have some other problem with your system.
Again, how are you measuring your speed? What is your link speed? What are your measured upload and download speeds?
If you are using the router as a WiFi then you may not be getting the full speed you expect from a direct connection.
You need to supply much more real hard data than you have.
Your subject says that "Verizon Fios Internet, TV and Phone with Mac Book Pro is SLOW!" and Leopard has nothing to do with your TV or phone.

I want to change Router2's Operating Mode from "Gateway" to "Router" because I
want to turn off NAT on Router2 so that I can access all computers attached to
Router2 by their individual IP instead of using port forwarding at Router2.
The problem is after the mode change from "Gateway" to "Router", and regardless
whether I disable RIP or enable RIP, and on what interfaces it is enabled, computer
192.168.2.160 does not have internet connection.
    Observations:
[0] INTRAnet works as I can reach computer 192.168.2.160 from computer behind Router1
    192.168.1.x and vice versa.
[1] ping and traceroute *work* on Router2 itself using the built-in dianostic tool.
[2] nslookup on computer 192.168.2.160 always works on new lookup. It uses
    192.168.2.1 as the resolver.
[3] tcptraceroute stops after step 2:
    [pre]
    # tcptraceroute yahoo.com
Selected device enp2s0, address 192.168.2.160, port 45999 for outgoing packets

     3  * * *
    [/pre]
[4] tcpdump shows that computer 192.168.2.160 tries to reach out and nothing is returned:
    [pre]
    13:34:03.172828 IP 192.168.2.160.45999 > 98.139.183.24.http: Flags [S], seq 1122548929, win 0, length 0

    [/pre]
This is not expected because NAT to internet should still be done by Router1, no? Computer
behind Router1 with IP 192.168.1.x has internet connection.
[5] It looks like I cannot change the Routing Table Entry on Router2. I do not think I need to change anything,
    just an observation.
[6] If I use LAN to LAN connection, then both intranet and internet works. [The internet IP of Router2 can be
anything not in the same subnet of the Router1, and DHCP on the local side should be disabled to avoid conflict
with the the DHCP on Router1].

I have a question. Unfortunately in order to ask my question, I have to have a lengthy description of my setup. Basically, I have a second Linksys router in "router" operating mode with NAT disabled connected to the Verizon router, and I have a computer which is in a different subnet (192.168.2.x) behind the Linksys router. This computer can communicate with computers behind Verizon router in subnet (192.168.1.x), but cannot reach internet. This is a simplified version of my question, full details are in the original post.
If I setup the Linksys router in "gateway" operating mode, which means with NAT enabled, then both intranet and internet works, but there is no easy way to setup port forwarding for 10 compueters in 192.168.2.x network to communicate with 10 computers in 192.168.1.x network.
If I setup the Linksys router in a LAN to LAN configuration with Verizon routers, but this way all computers are in the same subnet, I want them to be in different subnet for access control and things like that.
I hope this makes things a little clear.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting my PDA Palm TX to Verizon wireless internet

I have a PDa Palm TX and recently switched internet service from Comcast to Verizon.  I can't connect to my Verizon wireless internet service.  I do not know which secuirty key setup I need.  Can someone please give me instructions on connecting to Verizon internet.  I have a wireless router and it works fine with my two laptop computers.  Thanks!

Connecting to the internet with your TX should have nothing to do with switching from Comcast to Verizon, but rather the type of security you (or someone else) set on your wireless router.  Also, some types of routers won't work with the TX.  Check the "stickied" thread near the top of this board for tips and "how-to's" about wireless networking issues.
If you don't know how to get into your router settings to check them there, you should be able to see the security settings on your laptop by checking the Network settings.

  • Using nic nas and usb internet simultaneously

i use my nic card to connect to a nas.  i use a usb device for internet.
both work simultaneously on my pc and worked on my older g4 which both were connected to a router and were able to also share pc-pc.
i now have a g5 (ppc) and cannot get the nic/nas and usb internet device to work at the same time.
I reassigned device order with ethernet ontop (worked on the g4) and it doesn't work.  I have to constantly turn one device off and the other on and vice versa for which device i need to use at that time.
how can this be resolved please...it's very frustrating.
    thanks.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
    10.5.x/10.6.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

  • Can AirPort make USB internet wireless to other computers?

Hi I'm very new to this whole Mac thing, and even more new to using the AirPort. Currently, everything is set up fine, we have a cable broadband plan and it's plugged into the AirPort and wireless for both my and my husband's laptops.
I've recently been shafted by my broadband supplier though, and have been looking into other plans. The most convenient cost and download-wise are all usb wireless modem plans, however!
So, my question is: if I get a USB Internet Stick (or Datacard) and go on a wireless plan, can I still wirelessly connect both computers to the net at the same time, and would I do that through the AirPort?

    Hi,
An AirPort Extreme base station or an AirPort Express requires an Ethernet WAN input. The output of a USB (or ExpressCard) mobile broadband modem has to be converted (for example, through a special adapter similar to this one).
Another way, as bpbpbp already indicated, would be to use a dedicated mobile broadband router (something like this, this or this); either independently or in connection with an existing wireless (Wi-Fi) base station.
In all cases, make sure that a certain mobile broadband modem is supported before you buy. Usually, there is a list of supported devices for each mobile broadband router or special adapter.

  • A850 USB Internet funtion

Hi! Can we add USB Internet function on Wireless and Networks setting? I like to use my pc internet connection and charge my phone at the same time. I hope lenovo developer add this function to their next A850 software updates.

One solution would be a dedicated mobile broadband router instead, with Wi-Fi capabilities and support for the USB mobile broadband modem in question.
Alternatively, you could use a special adapter (something like this) for mobile broadband modems, that transforms the USB output to Ethernet.

Thank you, enzo46, for your suggestion but I don't understand how it would work to solve the problem. I'n not asking the ISP to assign a pubic IP address to the AEBS. Instead, I'm asking the router/modem, which is acting as the DHCP server for my private network, to assign a private IP address to the AEBS. The ISP has no visibility into my private network and therefore cannot assign a private address to the AEBS. Also, the router and the modem are integrated so I can't unplug them separately.
On the other hand, if you are suggesting that the router/modem be unplugged to reset its pool of addresses and that I have the AEBS release its currently assigned IP address before trying to reconnect, I can see where that might be helpful

  • HT5639 Can I use usb internet sticks and/ or printers which don't speak apple with boot camp and win 7/ 8?

    Hello all,
As a reference point for my technological skills, I work in international development and in timber framed building construction and repair. Beyond Ford full- size pick-ups pre 1993, I mostly employ 19th century systems.
This MacBook Pro is marvelous, but won't read or accept some older printers and usb internet sticks. There is also a problem with windows 8 on many of these international and older/ cheaper US devices. Will a MacBook Pro be able to communicate with them in windows 7 running on Boot Camp, or on any of the other Windows on Mac platforms? Does one work better with old stuff than another? Are any of them simpler/ more intuitive to use than others?  Any informtion or suggestions, no matter how basic would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rob

I have tried it with all 3 options. I tried the first two options with the printer plugged into port 1 on the adapter and the third option with the printer plugged into port 2. This means that I may have effectively installed all 3 options/scripts. Do I need to throw them away and start again?
Running the Choose Serial Port script writes a file that is used in processing print jobs. If you run the script a second time, it will replace the existing file with a new file.
Do I also need to configure these ports in the network settings under System Preferences?
    No.
I notice too that no 'location' is given for the Stylewriter II, whereas a location is given for my other (Lexmark) printer, which is connected to the G5 iMac directly via a USB cable.
That is of no consequence. Use of the Location field is optional.
I would suggest you proceed as follows:
    1. Go to the /Library/Receipts folder at the root of your hard drive. Delete the item Foomatic for StyleWriter.pkg.
    2. Start the installation over from the beginning. Install the Foomatic for StyleWriter software.
    3. Run the Choose Serial Port for StyleWriter script. Upon further reflection of your possible use of two Keyspan adapters, I would suggest you choose the serial port with the format USA28X...P1.1 rather than KeySerial1.
    4. Run the Add StyleWriter to Printer List.
Try printing a document. If it still does not work, download a troubleshooting script from my website http://webpages.charter.net/mbroughtn/downloads/Test7Stylewriter.command.zip Run the script. Copy and paste the contents of the Terminal window in a reply. That should point to what is going wrong.

  • Can't connect to internet wirelessly with WRT120N router

ok, it's nearly 4am and i've been trouble shooting this problem since 11pm... love the technology, but it completely evil...
let me start off by saying i'm not too tech savy. took a couple computer courses in high school and thought it was my passion but they got way above my head in college, so i settled for art (those classes are much easier to pass as long as you draw your homerwork, don't blow up your sculpture etc etc)
anywho, i bought a brand new computer today since i play wow and my old computer was nearing on a decade old and had nearly a dozen manufactury resets from all the viruses from downloaded music. i don't know the make of the new computer (just spent like five minutes looking over the box and it doesn't seem to say) and i literally walked into best buy and walked right up to the computer department store head and said, "which computer should i buy to play wow on for less than $600." he thought for like thirty seconds and pointed to an ASUS and i immediately bought it. took it home, watched tv for a couple hours, then went to set it up since i had a raid in like two hours, thinking, "brand new computer, nothing's gonna go wrong!..."
well it did. my router gives me grief from time to time, so i spent the first hour unplugging, resetting, refreshing (i think that's what the button by the blue lights that has the circling arrows does) and nothing. so then off to the interweb since... oh! this might be important! the one computer i'm on now that has a hardwired connection is running normally, not great, normally. and i just checked my mom's ipad, it's on the network too. my phone, a samsung galaxy s 4 had been connected since i had it, and decided to stop connecting when at least until i noticed i couldn't connect my new desktop and my gf's phone, an iphone 4 wouldn't connect either... in total, i think there's one wired desktop connection, my fail wireless desktop connection, wireless laptop that hasn't been opened in months, an at&t signal booster, an ipad, and 4 phones that connect when they feel up to it. my old iphone 4 i ran on 3g because it was more reliable than my wireless. there's never more than 3 devices running at once. i've seen a few threads mentioning too many devices on one network. could that be it? i hope not. we have comcast as a provider too, if that helps.
oh, and maybe i should describe my problem more clearly. on my phone, when i go to the wifi settings, it still list my network as one i'm linked too, it's just "not in range" and my new desktop can't see it at all. pretty sure it's not a hidden ssid because i connected my phone to it recently and had no probs. also, i'm fairly, but by no means 100%, certain that it's not the wireless card in the computer because i can see a few other networks and my phone had already been on it without giving me problems until earlier today.
if you know how to help, please be thorough in explaining it, and if i need to give more info, i'll try my damnest. please please please!!! help me, i spent all my money on this **bleep** computer and don't have anymore to buy another new router.

Hi there. To start, that blue button that you have been pressing on the router is the Wifi Protected Setup button. You press that button when you want to connect a new wireless device that supports Wifi-Protected Setup to connect to the wireless internet via your wireless router without having to enter anything on the new wireless device. So it means, you did not reset the router. I would like to verify with you though because it is not clear to me (sorry), how do you want your new desktop computer to work? Wirelessly or with Ethernet cable plugged-in? If it is for wireless, you will only need to connect the computer’s wireless connection to the router wireless network and to enter the wireless password if you have wireless security enabled on the router. Also, the router should be able to provide simultaneously internet connection to multiple devices – be it wired or wireless. Sometimes the reason why the wireless would not work is when there is wireless interference in the area that you will need to change its wireless channel to something else. To have wireless security enabled on the router is helpful as well in making sure that the router will provide a better connection speed.
