Verizon V640 Express Card use with G4 powerbook: Adaptor needed?

I must move to rural area for a short period of time where I will need Verizon as my ISP provider. Cable/dialup/DSL are not options.
I am considering the Verizon V640 card for use with curent G4 powerbook. It seems to be the optimal card for use in any newer Mac models I might get in the future.
Verizon web site indicates need for adaptor for use in my PCI Type I/II (cardbus) slot. Seems to make sense, but I want to make sure.
Has anyone used the V640 card in G4 powerbook? Better solutions?

It's an express card and is smaller that the pcmcia card that would normally fit into a powerbook g4 slot. It should fit normally into a Mac Book Pro. So, I assume it does make sense. At their web site they say it is a pcmcia/express card adapter.

  • How To Set Up Airport Express To Use With iPad2 For My Needs ?

On the advice of several people in a audio forum, I just purchase an Apple Airport Express. I will be using it with my new iPad 2. What I need to accomplish is using my iPad2 to stream subscription based music from the internet to the Airport Express, and for the Airport Express to connect via toslink cable to the DAC in my audio system.
What I am not sure about is how to set up my Airport Express to accomplish this. I do have a wireless network in my home, but wish to keep the wireless connectivity between the Airport Express and the iPad2 separate from it.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance with this. Thanks.

Deggie, firstly, thank you for your attempt to help. I greatly appreciate it. I connected it via the ethernet cable to the router since when I reconfigured the Airport Express adding it to my existing wireless system, the iPad could not connect to anything until I unplugged the Airport Express. I set it up for an ethernet connection to my router based on that experience.
Either the Ipad does not seem able to send anything to the Airport Express, or the AEX is not passing anything on. I also tried streaming a song stored on the iPad 2 to the AEX with no result, so it is not an issue with the subscription channel.
I don't own a miniplug cable of any sort for further testing, but the toslink cable is brand new, and was literally taken out of its package and plugged in, so I feel it extremely unlikely it is the issue. I've also tested it in three inputs on the DAC, so it is definitely not an issue with it.
I have a question though. You said "when you start your subscription and go to Airplay, does the iPad see the AEX?" You may be on to something there. How do I "go to Airplay" I thought it was just automatic?  Also, how do I "select it"? This may be the problem.

Should I download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash to use with Lion?  My need for Flash is very basic: Google Maps, YouTube, and content on certain websites.  Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

Thanks for the speedy reply.  I have read so many comments about Flash being incompatible with Lion I was wondering whether to download it or not.  So many sites on the Web still require flash, however, you almost don't have a choice but to download it even if it is incompatible.  I gather a better version of Flash will be available for Lion soon.  Again, thanks for the help.  I will download the latest version of Flash.

  • Verizon - CDMA and overseas use with a different GSM iPhone

I would love to make the switch from AT&T to Verizon. Problem being, as many have noted, that the Verizon phone only supports CDMA. I live overseas 6 months out of the year and have currently been using my unlocked 3G iPhone and have had no problems whatsoever. What are the chances of having two different phones with one account? The 3G being used exclusively for when I am overseas, the iPhone 4 for domestic use.
Problem being, my unlocked 3G phone is using iOS 3.1.3, whereas the new Verizon phone will be using iOS 4.3. Any way to reconcile this while retaining the same information on both devices?
    Thanks everyone in advance!
    m.

What are the chances of having two different phones with one account?
What "account" do you mean? Do you mean one account on your computer with one iTunes library? If so, then it will depend on how much trouble you wish to go to. Synching mail, contacts and calendars between iPhone may not be too problematical, depending on how you handle those now. Sharing documents shouldn't be a problem at all, particularly if you use a cloud-based system such as Dropbox. Synching application data, though, could be a serious pain, regularly requiring backing up and restoring back and forth between your iPhones. Difficult to say with any certainty without knowing more about how you use your iPhone now and what apps you use.
Problem being, my unlocked 3G phone is using iOS 3.1.3, whereas the new Verizon phone will be using iOS 4.3.
That's going to be a problem if you have to use the backup/restore trick. And you may find apps that won't transfer data between versions, something which may force upgrade of the app and iOS.
    Regards.

  • TS3147 Is there a recommended Printer to use with a Powerbook G4 Laptop?  It has OS 10.5

I have a Powerbook G4 Laptop and recently bought a new printer that works with my MacBook which has an Intel processor.  However, due to the operation system on my Powerbook, which is OS X 10.5, the new printer is incompatible with the Powerbook.  My husband uses the Powerbook and I use the Macbook. With this new HP printer, the Powerbook no longer is able to print documents.  Wondering if there are any printers out there that connect to a USB port 2.0 on my Powerbook G4..
    Thank you,
    Debbie

Locate a suitable printer for which there are available printer drivers that will work with 10.5.8. You will need to check mfgr. websites to see what drivers are available. Ask the vendor if they know if the printer works with your model and OS X version.

  • Express card slot/Delkin compact flash adaptor/Lexar 133x 2Gb Cf card

I am not sure if this is a combination that is not in widespread use but does anyone here use some or all of the above to download digital camera images ?.
I have an inconsistant problem the cause of which is difficult to identify, I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro ( June 2006 ) if I insert the Lexar card using the Delkin adaptor it mounts perfectly, I dismount it in the correct manner via the finder window but if I attempt to re mount the card nothing happens, if I continue to try it has on occasions tripped out the USB ports requiring a re boot. I thought the Lexar card may be faulty so I tried it in a Macally multi card reader but without problems, using my other Lexar 1 Gb 80 x cards I have no problems mounting the cards repeatedly. I borrowed a no brand slow speed 2 Gb card and that mounted each time without problems so where do I look for a solution ?
I have been to the Birmingham ( UK ) Apple store and the same situation happens with their in store machines, I have tried the card/adaptor combination in a friends machine ( the same age as mine ) with the same inconsistant results.
    Two questions,
    1. Would the fact that the Lexar card being 133x write speed cause a problem by being too fast for the computer ?
    1. When inserting the adaptor the red busy light comes on to indicate contact but when dismounting the card via the finder window the light remains on, would removing the card/adaptor combination at this point cause a problem ?

YES,---I also use SanDisk 4GB CF cards - and I have the firewire CF card reader.
But, the advantage of the PCI plug-in reader was that there was one less cord and one less box to pack for a long trip by air - or to lose in a motel in Montana. Surely someone can find a way to have a CF width on one end and a 34/ width on the other end.
No wonder that more and more new cameras - including professional models - are going to Secure Digital.
This is one more reason to keep my credit card in my pocket when I look at the 17 inch MacBook Pro - that and a working air/car power plug with a MagSafe connector. My 15 inch AL PB will do fine for a bit longer - and Photoshop CS3 is not out yet anyway.

  • PC cards and routers for use with Titanium powerbook

I recently purchased a used powerbook g4 for my wife's writing and installed OS-X 10.4. It did not come with an airport card. I already have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router which works fine with my iMac G5 (ethernet connection) and the PC notebook in the house. I have tried using an Orinoco 802.11a/b pcmia card, TP-Link TL-WN510G card, and a U.S. Robotics 100 Mbps 802.11g card, in the powerbook, and can not make a connection. The Orinoco card was recommended as Mac compatible.
Is my problem likely to be with the router or the PC card? Would purchasing a new router solve my problems? What would you suggest?

  • Can an intel cam be used with a powerbook G4

    intel cam model CS330
powerbook G4 has no isight/cam and runs OS 10.4.11
No macintosh drivers for the intel cam were found, only for windows OS.
Any suggestions for a driver? Photo-booth gives a "no cam found, in use by another program" when launched. No other programs are running.
    thanks

I suspect you're out of luck on a driver. OSX has drivers built-in for many devices, and for those those that don't exist the devices either have them on the device ROM or in unusual cases, separate drivers supplied with the device. There's a lot of devices that simply don't work on Macs.

  • What's the best PDA to use with iSync/Powerbook

My old sony clie finally died and I need to get a new PDA. Can anyone give me advice on the simplest PDA that is known to work well with a Mac platform? I had been using documents to go in order to hotsync my palm-based PDA in the past, but things may have changed.
    Powerbook G4 17   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    Powerbook G4 17   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I have heard the same. Thanks to the link you referenced to me I know that I shouldn't need any further software to use a Palm device with iSync (unlike when I discovered that I needed Mark/Soft in order to sync my Clie). I am trying to decide between the basic Palm Z22 and the more advanced Palms. It would make a big difference if one could link directly from the iLife 06 suite to a Palm - it would make purchasing the fancy color screens on the more expensive Palms worth it to be able to carry around the family photo album.

  • CAC or smart card use with Oracle database and web server

I've been asked to smart card (CAC) enable our Oracle web server and database access. We currently use CAC to access many of our other applications.
Where can I find the following information
Oracle software required (and is it an additional cost)
How to integrate Oracle App server (web server) with CAC.
How would I need to change the database users accounts to be CAC enabled rather than database users accounts.

  • Unauthorized credit card use with Apple Pay

When entering my credit cards into Passbook, I noticed that some credit card companies required secondary verification (enter 4 digit code sent by text or email) before completing the setup and some did not.  I was wondering if it is possible for someone that has access to my physical credit card, such as a merchant or restaurant server, could scan it into their personal iPhone and make unauthorized purchases using Apple Pay.

    Hi ..
No. They would have to be using your Apple ID which is associated with your iPhone.

  • Hooking up external hd to airport express to use with Time Machine

Hello, I would like to hook up my external HD to my airport Express and wirelessly still be able to use it for backing up and additional storage. Is this possible?? It will be hooked up via USB. It currently is sitting behind my iMac (2009) and hooked up to it via USB. I don't like how it is noisy and how it pauses my tasks sometimes while the external starts up every half hour or everytime I open certain applications.

it's possible (even though not officially supported by apple) but you'll have to restart your TM backups from scratch. remote backups are stored inside sparse bundles while directly attached ones are stored directly in a folder on the drive.
so you might want to erase your current TM backups first to free up space on the drive. but don't delete them from finder. erase the drive from disk utility.

  • Can my first generation airport express be used with airplay using iOS 7.1.2? It stopped working after one of the big iOS updates.

I have a first generation Airport Express.  Although it appears on the Airplay screen on my iPad and iPhone 5 (using iOS 7.1.2) the music does not play through the Airport Express.  The Airport Express does function correctly when I stream music via iTunes from my desktop computer, so I know that the device is working.  The Airport Express firmware version 7.6.4 is up to date.

  • Does this cardbus pcmcia card work with my powerbook?

Hi, The shop near my house only has this pcmcia cardbus USB 2 card.
    http://www.conceptronic.net/site/desktopdefault.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=200&Cat=30 &grp=3010&ar=0&Prod_ID=755&Prod=CSP480C2&subid=554#
My pbook only has USB 1, and I want USB 2 capability. Would the above work for the powerbook?

I don't see anything in its FAQ or Specs indicating it will or won't. That means it might, then again might not.
This card on the other hand has a known range of Mac OSes it supports:
