Verizon VCast on a Mac

I just bought a phone from Verizon. To put music onto the phone, I am suppossed to have windows XP which will then allow me to run Windows Media Player 10. Can I do this?? I plug my phone into the computer with a usb cord that specially fits the phone and the computer isnt even seeing it yet. Is this going to be possible to use on a Mac?? Please say yes?!?!?

nevermind. I returned it

  • I would like to suggest a Verizon-specific forum for Mac-users

Verizon is the largest provider of wireless and other related solutions. When I have problems with my Mac or supporting services I am consistently able to find solutions on either the Mac or Verizon forums. However, this takes quite a bit of effort to locate the right answer for my problem. And, this takes a lot of time.
I would like to harness solutions for Mac-users who are Verizon customers all in one place. This could make it easier for Mac-users to get quick answers. This could also be a great referral point for Verizon as it sorts out answers/solutions for Mac users.
Currently, Verizon hears from less than .05% of its customers that there are any issues of compatibility, less access to great services, needs for solutions for Mac. However Mac users represent at least 20% of computer users around the US. On the one hand you can infer that there are issues with less than .05% of the Mac universe or, on the other hand, you can infer that many just don't go to Verizon for the solutions.
I am not sure which is right. I just know that having solutions in one place, my Mac home, would be useful. I hope you will consider the idea.
I do realize no forums are dedicated to any one provider. However, Verizon, again, is the biggest provider. Maybe this is worthy of a forum.

    Hi,
I this case I don't see the need to duplicate services that are independent and already out there
http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all for North America as a whole
This British one has ISP related forums as well as OS specific issue ones
    http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/
If I had Internet Connection problems and my ISP seemed unable to help me then I would look to those.
I am sure there are many that are also Language based all over the world or at least country based where a language is spoken in more than one part of the world.
It is about the level of question involved and some may already get answered in the "Getting On Line" and similar forums already here.

  • Verizon telephone system for Mac OS X version 10.4.3

    Hello,
I have an iMac, OS X, version 10.4.3
I'm thinking about getting a Verizon, high-speed telephone system (whatever that means). The system would consist of two separate telephone lines. One line for the iMac computer and residential telephone; the other line for a fax machine and business telephone.
I already have one (dial-up) line for the computer and telephone with unlimited, long-distance calling.
Can you explain to me (like I'm a six-year old) the details about all of this, and if its the best way to go?
    Thanks,
    Wayne
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    I'm thinking about getting a Verizon, high-speed
    telephone system (whatever that means).
I believe you are talking about Verizon DSL. (unless you are in the very limited fiber market area, and are willing to pay a goodly amount per month)
DSL allows you to use a single telephone line for simultanious phone and internet access.
If you choose self install, they will mail you a modem, a bunch of filter boxes, an install CD, and a large setup sheet.
The modem connects to a phone jack near your computer, then you run an ethernet cable from the modem to your computer.
The filters go on each phone jack w/o a computer attached.
The installer CD sets up your ethernet control pane, and (used to) install a customized version of Netscape.
I already have one (dial-up) line for the computer
and telephone with unlimited, long-distance calling.
Then add DSL service to this line (I'll call it your home line). For any phone connected to this line, you'll have to connect a filter. (Verizon will provide several in the box with the DSL modem - you'll have to pay for them over a certain number)
DSL works by using high frequency "sound" (voice works at a lower freq. 1k band) The filters block the high freq used by DSL, so you don't get static/whistle/whine on your voice calls)
You cannot put a filter on the jack to whihc you connect the DSL modem - if you do, DSL will not work
the other line for a fax machine and business
    telephone.
DSL would not be active on the second (business) line/phone number, and because its a separate set of wires, I don't think you'd need the filters, either.

  • Verizon email on 2 macs?

I have an IMAC (2009 vintage) with 4 GB RAM, Intel 3.06 Hz processor running Mavericks 10.9.3
I also have a 13" MACBook Pro with 8 GB RAM Intel iCore 5 2.4 Hz running Mavericks 10.9.3
Verizon is my ISP.  I want to setup MAC Mail on both machines so that they are always in sync.  I'm not sure how to do it. I just purchased MACBook over the weekend.  I haven't tried to setup Mail on the MacBook.  I have been accessing Verizon email on the MACBook from directly from Verizon site.
Does anyone have an idea on this one?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    A-Man

On each machine open Mail, under Mail on the menu bar, Accounts, then since Verizon is not a standard preloaded account, go to the bottom of the list and Add an account.  Enter the account information for your Verizon account, the name on the account, password with Verizon, the POP specs, and so on.  You can setup each machine the same way and they will all go to Verizon's server to get the mail and then let you work with the mail.

  • Verizon rant from a Mac user

In response to a "2nd Notice - Action Required" letter from Verizon, I changed my e-mail settings on my MBP, iBook, and iPad. None of these devices would send mail with the new settings. So next I tried to use the Verizon InHome Agent program to see if I could find out what I was doing wrong. The program would not open.
So, I counted to ten, poured a stiff drink, and dialed Verizon. I had a lovely conversation with their live-in robot and finally got through to a young human. He informed me that they'd received "a whole lot of calls" informing them that the new settings don't work with Macs and, oh yeah, neither does the InHome Agent program. I noted that Verizon's letter states the old settings will no longer work in September. "So what's going to happen?" I asked. "Oh, I guess they'll figure it out by then," was his response.
The conversation reminded me of the hours and hours I endured on the phone, working my way up the tech team chain, about fifteen years ago when I was trying to get my new DSL service properly configured. Finally, I found a technician who "spoke Mac" and knew how to do it.
Ten percent of all cell phones in use are iPhones. Isn't it time Verizon took this reality into account ?

I agree Stupid Letter if you have made the mail settings change. If you have made the changes ignore the nag! Otherwise see all the links below regarding the same. Stupid me found I did not shnage the POP settings properly on my iPhone. So the nag may have ben well justified. See my notes and comments below.

First, Second , third, letter or Email is a reminder, but the way it is worded in the Email, implies that you are warned again that your Email will stop working. Verizon does not want a flood of calls about why peoples Email is not working. Thus the NAG message.
It should mention only if you have not made the changes to your Email Settings! Yea I keep getting the second reminder more than once. So how can it be a second reminder.

  • All these years w verizon. still no decent Mac support to speak of I see.

My 768k dsl plan has been great, decent speed and worked for a long time. until 3 days ago. was out one day. on the next day but very slow. download speeds about 400kbps. was getting nearly double that until then. 3 days now its slower than its ever been. why?
only thing different on my end Is I updated from Mac OS 10.4.11 to 10.6 snow leopard. I changed no hardware or software settings.
of course I had a filter on the line just before the wall jack, which online tech said to remove I did not need it. so I removed it. still downloads are slower than it was 3 days ago. all web pages load slow now. was working fine.
    1. tech support. calling the phone system is a joke. you cant get a person on the phone. you speak to a computer, tell it ABC option, and it goes to something you did not ask for. so It cant understand what you want. Worthless. why am I forced to speak to a system that dont understand what Im asking for?
    2. the one time I got a person on the phone. heavy accent. broken english. THAT does me no good when I cant understand them.
    3. then one tech says "you use a mac right". yes. sorry we are trained in windows not macs cant help you.
two phone calls and 3 online chats later, I have a download speed of 400 kbps and still NO help from anyone. NO help in sight. I dont know what to do next?

seems to work great now. over 1000 kbps like it use to be. did a little tweaking on my mac. dont know if that helped or not.
thanks for your tips though. appreciate it
I dont' know how many verizon customers use macs, but since verizon is a BIG company with BIG money, you think they would do some mac training for its support agents. If 500 customers used macs, that certainly enough customers to try to keep. It would warrant some mac training, at least the basics. IMHO of course.

  • Receiving verizon phone pics on mac

If I forward pics from my verizon phone to my MacBook I get an empty email message. No pic. If I send pics from my phone to my old PC, then forward that message to my Mac, then I can view the pic. Why don't the pics sent directly to my Mac from the phone display the pics? Thanks.

Look at http://verizon.com/emailsettings . Essentially they have finally dropped the old servers and are requiring you to use the new settings for reqular VERIZON email users.  Similar but slightly different changes were also made for Yahoo/Verizon email users.

  • Verizon Yahoo email on Mac Mail App

    Hi,
A friend of mine just got a brand new macbook pro with leopard. I'm trying to set up the mail app so he can get his email from his Verizon Yahoo account. I've set the whole thing up and he can receive messages but cannot send any outgoing mail. Any solutions?

in mail>preferences>accounts>account information you will see an outgoing mail server (smtp) field, click on the drop down list, is the smtp server for your friend's verizon email account there? if not you may want to choose edit list and add it. if it is there does it have the correct settings? select edit list, and check both panes, account info and advanced and check if the info is correct there.
also if you friend uses his/her macbook pro somewhere else than home, where presumably Verizon provides the internet connection, say at a friend's place with another ISP, then, maybe he/she will have to add the appropriate outgoing mail server to that list in order to send, as maybe that ISP at that friend's place may prevent from sending when using the Verizon setting.
    hope this helps

  • Verizon email via Mac Mail totally locked out/unresponsive since abt Sept 17th

What am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?
I have NO email access to verizon via my Mac Mail client at all. 995 & 465 ports time out after long, futile waiting periods, never to connect.
Webmail via Safari is ok, tho very sluggish when trying to sign in.
But I must access Verizon email via my Mac Mail client. Webmail is not reliable for me.
I am often in germany, where I use Telekom (t-online) for my internet connection, & have no problem with my t-online email which has the same exact pop/smtp settings as the Verizon email accts.
& have had no problem with verizon email whatsoever for the last 8 years.... until Sept 18th.
Verizon's Support chat y gave me a runaround & a brush-off with false advice & absurd info. (I'd saved the transcript & confirmed my suspicions by showing it to other colleagues who are computer saavy professionals). Altho the Verizon support chat admitted forum reports that overseas accts were suddenly locked out due to some security issue, they did not offer that info without my first suggesting it & then they claimed that my problem must be with Apple's Servers!
(my verizon email does not go thru any apple server, excuse me?!?)
I can not call any verizon 800 numbers from outside the USA & no alternative non-toll-free numbers are offered on any Verizon site that I can find.
No email address is offered for any Verizon support.
I do not use any social network (eg Facebook or Twitter).
So what am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under “My Support Cases” you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe".
Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

  • Creating a website on Verizon Central

    I am using Safari.
When attempting to build a web page using Sitebuilder on Verizon Central's web page, the Sitebuilder only displays the text coding of the site I am attempting to build and will not display the graphical user interface (GUI) or allow me to preview what the site will look like. When I attempt to do the
same thing on a Windows computer using Internet Explorer, Sitebuilder works fine.
Does anyone know how to get Safari to display the GUI so that I can build a website on Verizon Central using my Mac? I have popup blocker turned off.
Verizon Central is located at: http://netservices.verizon.net/portal/site/msa/
You create a website using the tab MY WEB SPACE.
    Thanks for your help.
    Rob

It would not be that unusual for such sitebuilder stuff to only work with Windows or at best with FireFox on the Mac. You might try the latter if you haven't already.

  • In-Home Agent for Mac doesn't work - never has

I signed up for FIOS service several months ago and have never been able to get Verizon In-Home Agent to work. I can get as far as the level shown below, but when I select one of the grayed options, I get the spinning icon. (See it at lower left corner of the window.) That lasts for a few minutes, then nothing happens - it just goes back to the same window.
I even tried clicking the "Click here to provide your Feedback." I get the same icon (hard to see, but it's to the left of that link), then back to the same window.
    Running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Any ideas?

I just got FIOS in my all-Mac household. Nothing works for the Mac in FIOS. Not the FIOS t.v. widgets, In-Home Agent or anything else. Verizon is the most Mac unfriendly telecom company I've ever seen. Ironic if you think about what its products are.
All that will work on a Mac is that it will connect to the Internet. Period.
Verizon, would it really be too much cost or trouble to develop more Macintosh options?

  • Verizon DSL Newbie needs Home Networking Help

I am a brand new Verizon DSL user (on my i-MAC G3 OS Panther) and I would love to be able to access the same DSL connection with my i-Book G4 (also OS Panther with an Airport Extreme card built in).
I tried looking this up on Verizon's website and quickly became totally confused. Verizon seems to think MAC users are second class citizens.
Would someone be willing to tell me exactly how to do this? Do I need a router? Do I need an Airport Base Station?
Thanks much, and please forgive my ignorance.

I have a verizon westell dsl wireless router which is working fine when the 3 macs (1 g3 powermac, 2 ibook g4's - all panther) on the network are hard wired.. but when you try to connect wirelessly, the ip address found in the TCPIP DHCP is a 169 address.. not 192.. and even though it seems to see the router.. you cannot connect to the internet. Anyone have a clue... I've tried manually typing in a 192 addy in the range which for a moment fools Airport and it states in Network Status that is's connected to the internet.. but it's not... I've also done the old un plug the router. restart the mac.. turn airport on and off drill and again.. nothing...I'm stumped... At one time we were able to connect wirelessly to this router.. but now no...HELP PLEASE!

  • Vcast Media Manager -- where is support for 64-bit windows computers??

I purchased a Droid 2 in October, when I plug it into my computer it brings up Verizon Vcast Media Manager page to download that program (which is good because I want to get my music onto my phone from my desktop computer).  But only after download attempt does it tell me that said program will only support a 32-bit operating system.  Well, I, my wife, and a lot of other people have a 64-bit operating system.  Is Verizon really that far behind the times?  Seriously has no one noticed this, a 32-bit machine is outdated these days.  Why can i not hook my Droid up to my puter, I thought this was smartphone technology...  Maybe the phone is smarter than Verizons Programmers??   To VZW, please correct me if I am wrong, or fix the problem if I am correct.

Currently there is no 64bit version available at this time, and no ETA to when one will be available. I would recommend as an alternative using the Droid 2 as a mass storage drive to transfer music. I have included the instruction in an article below:
    http://support.vzw.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=34780
If it still does not recognize it as a device, try putting it in USB debugging mode. Instruction article given below:
    http://support.vzw.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=31366
***As long as a memory card is present in the device, it will show up as a drive on your personal computer. Once it shows up as a drive, you can drag and drop music and media files on the Droid 2.

I went to the Keith Urban Concert on May 7th and participated in Verizon's create a video with Keith Urban in front of the green screen. I was told I would get the video sent to my email and my phone. I got an email that said "Here is your video with Keith" but nothing was in the message of attached to it. Is there a phone number I can call to find out how to get this video?
I have a barcode on the ticket given to me if that's necessary.
    Lou Monteleone

I too did a video at Keith Urban's Las Vegas show on 7/18/09.
I signed up for it to be sent to my email address.
    It has never come.
I talked with all of my friends who do and do not have Verizon and no one has received theirs by either phone or email.
Was hoping that you could help me.
