Verizon WiFi - iPad and Kindle

When will Verizon's wifi service support iPad and Kindle devices?

For Fios subscribers, Verizon offers free wifi access for laptops at Verizon hotspots.  The free access does not extend to iPads amd other such devices.  I was wondering why.  I believe cablevision, Comcast, and some other other cable companies are offering free access for all types of devices.

Thought would have erased with resetting iPad

Hello, your iPad is 'Activation Locked' as a part of 'Find My iPad'.
Log onto www.icloud.com, go to 'Find My iPhone'. Then select 'All Devices', your old iPad will probably show here, select 'Remove from Account'.
If there is no option to 'Remove from Account' ask the current owner to switch iPad off for a while, and remove from account should show in 5 minutes or so.

  • Sync ipad and kindle

Is it possible to sync my ipad and kindle? I saw something somewhere that someone had done this but I cant fiind out how to do so.
I have the kindle app on my ipad but would like to be able to sync the two so I can swap between them. Is it possibel.
    thank you for your help

All Kindle apps and Kindle devices are synced to your Kindle account on Amazon, not directly to each other. As long as you're logged in using the same Amazon account information on all of the devices they should stay in sync. For further information, you should consult Amazon's help pages.

  • I have a 3rd generation wifi iPad and there is no sound in the device. Can someone please help?

I have a 3rd generation wifi iPad and there is no sound in the device. Can someone please help?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • Both of our iPhone 4s no longer connects to home wifi, iPad and iMac still do.

Our home wifi appears to be working fine.  Our iPad and our computer are connected and have no trouble.  However, both my husband's and my iPhone 4s that have always been connected no longer connect.  It can see the signal, allows me to click on it an enter the network key, but then says unable to connect.  We reset our wireless hub but that did not help.  I restarted my phone and reentered the network key twice.  I'm fairly sure that it stopped working right after the most recent update.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I don't want to drain all my data down while I'm @ home.

Update, the iPad worked all morning and the second that my settings button showed that there was a new software update, it disconnected from the wifi and is now behaving exactly like the iphones.  This has got to be an issue with the new software.

  • Verizon wifi hotspots and android devices

Are the Verizon wifi hotspots available for use with use with anything but the extremely limited options verizon supports with its silly "wifi connect" tool. If that is the case - it would seem that this preticular feature is about is about as useful as  a gallstone.

We hav a Galaxy Tablet 3G LTE and we love it.  But the past couple of months, it's 3G Mobile Hotspot is AWFUL.  We cannot connect to the Hotspot consistently.  We constantly have to turn it off and on (or disable from the laptop or Ipod) and try again.
We even sent the Tablet back to Verizon and received another one.  The problem is the same, so I know it's the Tablet.   I borrowed my Parent's JetPack and we had incredible internet.   So, I know it's not our Location or our Laptop or Ipod!!
Yes, we have called Support countless times.  They have us check a different option or they think they have fixed it on 'their end', but to no avail.   HELP, we are so frustrated.
You might want to post about this issue at the Verizon Wireless forum instead: https://community.verizonwireless.com/
My advice for that though would be to double check your tablet to make sure the firmware is up to date. While it's apparently now illegal to unlock your device, if the device is already unlocked you may want to consider changing the ROM on it if you're so inclined. Sometimes the manufacturers's run of the mill OS has weird bugs like that.

  • MBP won't connect to wifi. iPad and iPhone will

Having some trouble connecting to a wifi network. I'm staying at a hotel and for the past week I've had no trouble connecting to the wifi here. Suddenly, yesterday, I can't detect the network at all on my MBP but my iPhone and iPad have no problem. I need to get some work done so I need to sort this out. Most of the comments I've read on the forum involve people who have problems connecting to their home router but I haven't found anything yet pertaining to if you can't access the router. I know the router is working fine because my iPad and iPhone can connect so it must be something on my MBP. Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry. In my head I thought I had explained it well enough but looking back I guess it's a little fuzzy.
Ok, so I've been here a week. To log in to the hotel network you just need to select the network and type in a WPA2 password. I was doing totally fine the first week but suddenly, when I try and find the network on my list of available networks it's not there. I see two or three other networks but not the hotel one. I tried join other network and typing it in manually but it still can't find it. My iPad and iTouch, on the other hand, have no trouble locating and connecting to it which is why I suspect it has something to do with my MBP.

  • How do I move an iBook from my iPad to my Macbook Pro?  I have iBook on the Mac and the iPad, and Kindle for Mac.

How do I move an iBook I bought with my iPad II from the iBook store to my Macbook Pro so I can read it on the MacBook Pro?

As long as you are using the same Apple ID for both iPad and iBooks on your Mac, you do not need to transfer the book to your Mac.  It should already be in your iBooks library.

  • IPad and ebooks .epub which fonts trouble free

    Hi.
Does anyone have a CURENT REFERENCE a LIST of FONTS that will work without problems on the popular tablets specifically iPads and kindles.
I am creating an ebook -  an .epub file on my Macbookpro OS X 10.8 using inDesign CC.
I searched the internet, this forum, other forums etc and included 2013 and 2014 in the search terms but I HAVE not found a list.
One tutorial discusses using TrueType Or OpenType Fonts not postscript fonts but although this was a very good tutorial about creating epubs....it is from 2009.
Another article listed fonts for the kindleFire and KindleWhite but I have NOT found a CURRENT LIST for IPADS or iOS.
I Would like to cross reference these lists and USE FONTS that display on both.
I am not concerned with smartphones at this point.
    Thanks.

Does iBook just refuse to recognize any fonts but its own?
I think that may well be correct. It is a closed system and as far as I know does not yet recognize embedded fonts in ePub or css/(x)html (only in the pdf context, or presumably as part of an app).
OS X Safari has supported embedded fonts for two years now, but the mobile version does not.
You can ask for this feature to be added here:

  • Wife has a Kindle, Kid is buying a ipad. Can I transfer songs from my amazon cloud over to icloud without having to repurchase?

Wife has a Kindle, Kid is buying an ipad. Can I transfer songs and pictures from amazon cloud over to icloud?

Yes, and there are a couple ways to do this, and it may depend on what kind of songs you are talking about.
If you purchased songs from Amazon's ecosystem, and it is stored in their cloud, you can do the following:
    1) Download their app.
The app is called Amazon Cloud Player. The link is here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amazon-cloud-player/id510855668?mt=8
    2) Download the songs from their cloud, to your computer and then sync with iTunes
This is the method I use, and all the music is then stored in the Music app, already on the iOS device. The upside to this method would be that all the other applications you have can access these songs too, such as apps for an alarm clock.
    3) Upload pictures and songs to Dropbox
This way all the content is stored in the cloud, and can be accessed anywhere and anytime.
For the pictures, you're most likely going to have to sync with iTunes to do that, or you can put them in Dropbox.

  • How can I tell if I am receiving 4G on my new Verizon WiFi/4G iPad?

I recently purchased a the new (3rd gen) Verizon WiFi/4G iPad.  When I activate the cellular service, all that I see on the screen is Verizon and the bars for signal strength. How can I tell if I am receiving 4G or 3G data?

My understanding is that  when you start it up that you will have service for at least one month.  The other thing to be aware of is the two types of deactivating your account.  You can see my post in the iPad 2 forum.  But basically, you can suspend or cancel your account when you don't want to use the data plan.  If you suspend your account, it will automatically start up again after a specific period of time unless you know to and remember to resuspend your account.  The advantage of suspending it is that you can activate and deactivate on the web.  If you cancel the account it will not start up again automatically, but I believe you have to call to start up the data plan.

  • I'm trying to decide whether to buy ipad or cheaper tablet.  What is retina display and what is diff betw ipad and mini with only wifi? What is mini missing?

I'm trying to decide on tablet to buy -- what is the difference between mini and ipad?  What is retinal display?  Why do some have wifi only and some have wifi cellular?  Why would I need cellular?
I keep hearing that apple computers don't pick up viruses like pc (of which I have had my fair share) so that is why I am considering -- but there are some really attractive deals for cheaper tablets.

A simple answer to a loaded question?  Not here!
    1.     For starters, I can't recommend the newest iPad AIr or iPad Mini.  The previous versions worked perfectly though if you want to go the Apple route.  That alone will save you a few bucks.  Best Buy undercuts Apple prices by a few $$ and has bonus sales around this time of year.
    2.   You get what you pay for.  I like the Samsung Galaxy Tabs a lot.  Good hardware and software.  App store has plenty to offer.  You also have size options like you do with Apple.   Since I have the Galaxy S3 phone, the Galaxy tabs are very familiar.  The Surface (smaller one) is big for a tablet, it works great, but is subject to the frailties that plague PCs to some degree.   I don't like the keyboard, but do like the kickstand.   I don't know about the availability of Apps for the Surface, I think it may be a major downside to the device.  The Surface is not cheaper than iPad either.  As for the cheaper Tablets, they will be in the landfill before Apple introduces a new gadget (that's pretty often....)   The Kindle is still primarily, an eReader.
    3.   Wifi or wifi and cellular - If you have a smart phone and can tether a tablet, you don't need cellular on the tablet.  With more places offering free hot spots, wifi is more than adequate. ( I use very little cellular on my mini)
    4.    iTunes and the App store;  I will start by saying I am cheap.  If the App isn't free, it has to be really valuable to me or I won't buy it.  I paid for Pages on my iPad 2 years ago and I bought a password wallet that syncs on all my devices on all platforms.  Aside from that I buy music to add to the CDs I imported to iTunes.  If you don't like iTunes and don't want to use it, keep looking at android tablets.
    5.    ios 7 - Never has Apple made such a big deal and been so poorly prepared to introduce a new ios.  It has devoted Apple heads steamed.  I count myself one and have had no problems with my devices, educated user I hope, or just really lucky.
    6.    I really USE my tablet.  I use it for work, for financial management and communications.  I rarely have to resort to the desktop as almost everything is possible on the iPad.  I love it's portability!  Documents and data flow back and forth with the cloud I never worry about losing anything or finding anything.  Photos download automatically from my Android smart phone with Dropbox App and are instantly available to load on all devices.
    7.    If you are a big PC hacker type, the switch to ios is culture shock.  The first time on the new iMac I was at my wits end trying to navigate.  I only had to stop working so hard and it all fell into place.
    My personal experience:
I have the iPad 2, (wifi only) and the first mini (with 4G LTE) and I had a 4th generation iPod touch and now have a 5th Gen iPod touch (which I really like a lot).  My son has an iPhone 4S and the iPad with retina display.  Both my sons have had iPods through the years.
My 50 year old eyes prefer the bigger screen of iPad 2 and typing is much easier.  But I love the portability of the smaller tablet, so one for home, one for the road.  Thanks to iCloud what ever is on one is also on the other, documents, data, contacts, etc.   Retina display, my son has it, I don't, I can't say I miss it.  It does make pictures look better, if you are a photo person, the retina display is worth it.
I also have transitioned from PC to Apple completely, I bought an iMac 4 years ago and it is as fast as it was on day one, no crashes, repairs, viruses.  I just bought a Mac Mini and I also use Apple Airport extreme for router and I have an Apple TV (the only disappointment, I prefer the Roku 2)
I'm sure that was more than you asked for.....

  • I have an ipad 2 32gb wifi model and i was wonderin if i could connect it to any cellular internet plans

I have an ipad 2 32 GB wifi model and i was wondering if i could connect it to cellluar internet plans?

I use my WiFi only iPad with a MIFI2200 hotspot from Verizon. There are many mobile hotspots on the market, but as stedman suggested, it would behoove you to check with any cellular carriers in your area to see what they have to offer.

  • IPad and Verizon

I would like to buy an iPad, but the only cell company in our remote area is Verizon. I know it's possible to run iPad on Verizon, but it sounds like it's complicated and that I might not be able to use all features. Any advice? Thanks!

Sounds like you're confusing WiFi with cellular 3G. If you have an Internet provider, regardless who even Verizon, all you need is a wireless router to contact either to your cable modem or DSL. Once you have WiFi in your home or office you can use the WiFi capability of the iPad. And when you take it somewhere else it will seek WiFi networks and ask you if you want to connect to any it finds. Of course you'll need to know the loggin info unless the network isn't password protected.
If there is no wifi where you are and you don't have an iPad with 3G then you can't connect to the net. If you get an iPad with 3G but there's no ATT where you are, and you can't get a wifi signal, then again you won't be able to get online.
If you can get online either by wifi or ATT you can make VOIP calls with apps like Trufone as the pas has a mic and of course speakers. Alternatively you can plug in earphones that also has a mic like you'd use on an iPhone. There are lots of them on the market and you can also get them at any Apple Store.
Lastly, to be clear you can only connect via 3G if you have a 3G iPad and through ATT currently.
    Hope that helps.
