Verizon Wifi

This may have been answered somewhere on here and if so please direct me there. Verizon tech support has been less than useless. I  the initial person knew nothing and then put on hold and finally hung when no one answered.
I am trying to download software to my laptop so that I can access hotspots when I travel. I have gone to the My Services site and signed in and looked under My Services and then Internet and cannot find the link. When I go to the www.verizon.com/wifi link it only kicks me back to the my verizon page. I had the regular DSL internet before I switched to fios and laready had a user name for the My Services page. Could that be the issue and how can I fix it? Any help will be appreciated.

Here is a link to the support site.

It is a fairly simple process but if you are still having trouble.  Call in to speak with technical support and asked to be transferred to the WiFi department.  There is a specialist department who work specifically with the hotspots.  Do not let any technical support agent tell you otherwise.

  • How can I tell if I am receiving 4G on my new Verizon WiFi/4G iPad?

I recently purchased a the new (3rd gen) Verizon WiFi/4G iPad.  When I activate the cellular service, all that I see on the screen is Verizon and the bars for signal strength. How can I tell if I am receiving 4G or 3G data?

My understanding is that  when you start it up that you will have service for at least one month.  The other thing to be aware of is the two types of deactivating your account.  You can see my post in the iPad 2 forum.  But basically, you can suspend or cancel your account when you don't want to use the data plan.  If you suspend your account, it will automatically start up again after a specific period of time unless you know to and remember to resuspend your account.  The advantage of suspending it is that you can activate and deactivate on the web.  If you cancel the account it will not start up again automatically, but I believe you have to call to start up the data plan.

  • Free Verizon WiFi HotSpots Now On-Line

It looks like Verizon has turned on the ability to register for access to free Verizon WiFi HotSpots.
Verizon Wi-Fi for High Speed Internet Verizon Wi-Fi* is a free service that enables qualified Verizon High Speed Internet subscribers to access the internet at thousands of public places known as Wi-Fi hotspots. This wireless service is not intended to be used from your home, but to be used while on-the-go.
    Here is the URL:
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Networking/SetUp/WiFi/124611.htm?LOBCode=C&PromoT...
It requires a 20MB Download or better FIOS Plan or 3MB or better DSL Plan
Verizon Wi-Fi is available with select High Speed Internet packages and in designated locations only. The service requires Windows Vista or Windows XP 32-bit with Service Pack 3. Verizon Wi-Fi is not available on Macintosh, Windows XP 64-bit, or Windows 7 operating systems.

Totally agree...I was excited that Verizon was finally allowing free Wifi access for premium high speed subscribers (something AT$T offered over a year ago) but this was short lived after finding out that my netbook running Linux  (Ubuntu) was not on the list of operating systems (an extremley short list) I assume this will change and they want to get to all of their primary OS users out of the way first. Disappointing to say the least. There are alot of your subscribers that are looking for alternatives to the infamous "Windows" especially on their mobile devices. I hope they will provide these users with options as well.

  • Verizon wifi hotspots and android devices

Are the Verizon wifi hotspots available for use with use with anything but the extremely limited options verizon supports with its silly "wifi connect" tool. If that is the case - it would seem that this preticular feature is about is about as useful as  a gallstone.

We hav a Galaxy Tablet 3G LTE and we love it.  But the past couple of months, it's 3G Mobile Hotspot is AWFUL.  We cannot connect to the Hotspot consistently.  We constantly have to turn it off and on (or disable from the laptop or Ipod) and try again.
We even sent the Tablet back to Verizon and received another one.  The problem is the same, so I know it's the Tablet.   I borrowed my Parent's JetPack and we had incredible internet.   So, I know it's not our Location or our Laptop or Ipod!!
Yes, we have called Support countless times.  They have us check a different option or they think they have fixed it on 'their end', but to no avail.   HELP, we are so frustrated.
You might want to post about this issue at the Verizon Wireless forum instead: https://community.verizonwireless.com/
My advice for that though would be to double check your tablet to make sure the firmware is up to date. While it's apparently now illegal to unlock your device, if the device is already unlocked you may want to consider changing the ROM on it if you're so inclined. Sometimes the manufacturers's run of the mill OS has weird bugs like that.

  • How does the verizon wifi work? Do you pay monthly?

I want to buy the new iPad with retina display as a gift, but how does this verizon wifi work? Do you pay monthly or have to call Verizon?

You're post is a little confusing. WiFi signals are not done through Verizon unless you are talking about using a Verizon MiFi hotspot such as this http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?&item=phoneFirst&action=view PhoneOverviewByDevice&deviceCategoryId=13&cmp=KNC-58700000028195084&zipRdr=y.
4G wireless cell signals are done through Verizon. WiFi comes from places such as your home wireless network, or WiFi hotspots at places like Starbucks, restaurants, pubs, etc.
If you are asking about Verizon's wireless cell service, it's $20 a month for 1 gig of data, $30 a month for 2 gigs of data, or $50 a month for 5 gigs of data.

  • Verizon Wifi now works on Mac?

Read this blog and would love to know if any qualifed Verizon customers can verify if this change actually works.
    http://wyang0.blogspot.com/2012/01/verizon-wi-fi-for-all-devices-mac-linux.html

Is there an answer to this?
(please no uninformed answers from people who do not understand the issue)
This is a sore point for Verizon hight-speed FiOS  subscribers who are promised Version Wifi Hostspot access as a "free" extra benefit of paying extra for high-speed FiOS.
Macs can access  "Verizon WiFi hotspots"   (in fact often (always?) provided by  Boingo, but not accessed as a Boingo user)  with Verizon's special Windows-only access manager  *IF* running Windows natively (bootcamp), but *NOT* with Windows running in a Parallels or VMware virtual machine running under OS X.
This is because  the Verizon access manager connects directly  to WiFi hardware using the native widows WiFi driver, while  a virtual machine only has a virtual network interface to the Apple  WiFi driver that runs when the machine is booted into OS X.   (The native windows wifi driver in the virtual machine is not connected to the WiFi hardware, so the Verizon access manager fails)
I used to have a bootcamp installation of windows *just* to access the "Free" Verizon WIFI access (in aiports with boingo) that comes as a "free extra" with high speed VerizonFiOS subscriptions.    (Native OS X access to "free" Verizon WiFi for high-speed FiOs subscribers has been "coming soon" for at least three years!)
    Is it here yet?
    (I suspect "no")

  • Mifi 4510L - Use Verizon Wifi Hotspots

I used to have the Mifi 2200 - and was able to cable up to the mifi - and use the Vz Access Manager to authenticate to the verizon wifi hotspots at airports, etc.
In getting the 4510, I see the Access Manager is no longer used/needed/supported, so how do I authenticate now to use the wifi hotspots...
Support, and my local store had no clue.

The Verizon WiFi web site is specific on who is eligible.... and it was part of my purchasing decision on the MiFi 4510L and my 2 year contract.:
    From http://support.vzw.com/clc/faqs/VZAccess/verizon_wifi.html#item7
Who is eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi service?
If you are currently signed up for a Mobile Broadband or GlobalAccess monthly service plan on a month-to-month, one- or two-year contract term, you are eligible for complimentary Verizon Wi-Fi.
Note: Prepaid Mobile Broadband, Mobile Broadband Connect, and smartphone users are not eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi.
So, how do  MiFi 4510L customers get this to work?

  • When will MAC O/S be supported on MiFi (Fivespot) device to access the Verizon wifi hotspots?

I just got the Fivespot for Broadband internet access for my laptop.  I've had it about a week, and tried the dedicated network access from home, and an internet cafe using both the USB connection, and the wifi connection.  Both work fine, and speeds are very acceptable.
When I tried accessing the Verizon Wifi Hotspots--I realized they are not available on a MacBook, since you can only access the VZ wifi hotspots using the VZ Manager app.  After I read the manual, realized that I could only access the VZ wifi Hotspots from Windows O/S.  Good thing my MacBook has a dual OS boot (I never go into Windows anymore unless I absolutely have to--like in this case).  As a side note, I had to install and setup the FiveSpot again in Windows--let me just say--even though I didn't encounter any issues--the process went much smoother using the MAC O/S.
Anyway, got VZ Manager up and running on Windows, followed the instructions to update the Verizon Wifi Hotspot locations, and then connected to the wifi location that I was in, which was a local Barnes & Noble.  Please note that all Barnes & Noble, and Starbucks offer free public wifi through 'attwifi'.  Thinking that the Verizon wifi hotspot would provide a faster connection speed and performance, I decided to try it.  Well, the response was dismal and poor--I tried to download a 22MB file, and the connection speed showed a paltry 7 KB/minute; in the public library, I usually get a speed of 100KB/minute, and the attwifi public access usually results in 50KB/minute downloads.
Disappointed in the so-called Verizon wifi  hotspots speeds.
Does anyone know when this will be accessible via the Mac OS?
    Thanks!

Ironically, turning Airplane Mode on disables streaming, but still shows your entire library when shuffling. However, the unavailable songs skip, like they should. But could still be tapped to download, if there were service. I wish there was a way to separate playback from having music available for download.

  • Verizon WiFi not available for Macintosh

I take exception to not supporting Verizon WiFi on a Macintosh running OSX. In my household, we do not use Windows. Verizon should offer Macintosh and other customers using unsupported systems (like Linux and netbooks that do not use Windows) a discount (say 15%) off their montly bill for failing to support these platforms.

I agree.  As a MAC user this type of "oversight" is continuously annoying.  Verizon needs to support the MAC community as there are quite a few MAC only households in its customer base.

  • Playing Ping-Pong ... aka Verizon Won't Support the "Verizon WiFi" Service Activation App

This post concerns the Verizon service called, "Verizon WiFi," which is introduced at the following web-page:
    http://www.verizon.com/wifi
The service is explained in the following page:
    http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/internet/highspeed/networking/setup/wifi/124612.htm
The so-called "quick and easy" process to register and activate has occupied more than sixteen hours of time - so far - and regrettably, shows no signs of ever working. Two chat sessions, six (mostly marathon) CS calls, and I still can not find anyone who is inclined to fix the real problem, namely:
The "WiFi Activation" application (or wizard) will not accept as valid any user name that I type.
No matter what I enter into the User Name field (including the random strings provided by technical support in India), the application reports, "User name contains one or more invalid characters." Tried it 15 to times on multiple PCs ... always with the same results, "User name contains one or more invalid characters."
Telephone support is frustrating ... at best. Verizon DSL Dept. transfers me to VZ Wireless Dept., who eventually transfers me back to VZ DSL, who the transfers me to VZ FIOS Department, and then back to Wireless ... and so on. As y'all know, several of these transfers were to India and back.  Last night (28 May) the trouble-ticket was escalated for action, and I was assured that I'd be contacted with the problem resolution..
    I was not contacted.
This evening, I tried again.  After lots more 'customer ping pong,' and repetition of yesterday's experiences, I was eventually told that the ticket (VAHM01NN**) had been closed. What gives? Why would an unresolved problem ticket be closed?
How about it, Verizon reps who read this?
Can one of y'all VZ reps help solve the problem with activating WiFi service so I can "Enjoy nationwide Wi-Fi access in select areas at over 5,000 hotspot locations -- at no extra charge" as trumpeted on the web-site? What office is responsible for technical support of the "WiFi Activation" application (named like the following, VZ.WIFI_2013_2013_29_10_12_44_8741ghu.app)?
    Please help a brotha' out!
BTW.  Every technician wants to dick around with my DSL modem ... instead of addressing the real problem.  Please fix the flow-chart so that "Verizon WiFi" and "Verizon commericial WiFi hotspots" are addressed correctly!

I have this service running and it was not a simple setup.  I cannot make a particular suggestion right now for your case, but I thought this link might help:
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/TRYING-TO-REGISTER-FOR-WI-FI-FROM-Ipad/m-p/580463
Perhaps between the two of  you, you'll encounter a resolution.  Good luck.
Edit:  After submitting my post on your issue, I discovered that you have initiated 3 separate threads on the same subject.  Of course I had no way of knowing this prior to posting, and I found this confusing.  Subsequently I realized that I'm unlikely to be able to help.  In any case, best of luck.

  • HT204023 I have an Ipad with Verizon wifi + cellular. Can I use this and cancel my additional wireless service at home?

I have an Ipad with Verizon Wi Fi + Cellular. Can I use this as my sole internet provider for this device?

If you choose but you need to be careful with your data plan and make sure you use wifi at home. This approach will make you pad a sole source so others in tying household will need to use your device. It's really your call.

  • Verizon WiFi - iPad and Kindle

When will Verizon's wifi service support iPad and Kindle devices?

For Fios subscribers, Verizon offers free wifi access for laptops at Verizon hotspots.  The free access does not extend to iPads amd other such devices.  I was wondering why.  I believe cablevision, Comcast, and some other other cable companies are offering free access for all types of devices.

  • Verizon wifi problems

My first 4s 16gig had no problems connecting to comcast wifi hotspots.  I got the 32gig and now I cant connect to the same hotspot even though other phones can.  Is there a fix or do I pay a visit to the apple store?

go into wifi settings and when you see the certain wifi hotspot you connected to in the past - on the bottom click "forget"... whenever a wifi network that has worked before stops working.. simply forget it and reconnect to it as if its your first time and re-enter the password if there is one. give this a try it has worked for me.
    hope this helps

  • Free Verizon WiFi install problem

Trying to install free wifi. I am able to DL. It runs the test for connectivity, but when it checks for system requirements I get a message that my system does not meet minimum requirements. It says that my OS does not meet the requirements. I am running Windows 7 (64 bit). Any help is appreciated. Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have it running on 32-bit Win 7 Ultimate RTM bits.  Haven't tried 64-bit.  Had some errors with the installer telling me I needed to upgrade to Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7.  Not sure why it had issues detecting the Win 7 OS.  So I right-clicked the resume installation icon on my desktop, hit properties and set compatibility to "Windows Vista SP2".  Voila!  It finished the install and is running.  Make sure you do not check the "Run as Administrator" box.  I did that and the app told me that I was not logged on as administrator!  Something is screwy with that app.  Incidentally, the account I was logged in under did have Administrator privileges.  Don't check the box and you'll be fine.
