Version 8 Standard - save as EPS

I use Acrobat to save PDF's as EPS files to use as form overlays for some of our software applications. With version 7 standard, the EPS files were usually about 108 KB. With version 8 standard they are suddenly 521 KB. Anyone have any idea why the huge difference and if I can do anything about it (other than going back to version 7).
Thanks.

Are you sure you have not added graphics or such. It may be that the graphics resolution you have set in AA8 is higher than AA7. You might try reduce file size or PDF optimize (not sure either is in STD) and then a save as for the EPS file. That way you may be able to reduce the resolution. Another workaround that may have to be used with STD would be to print to a new PDF with a lower resolution selection in the settings file. Then see if that one will save to EPS ok.

  • Save as EPS in CS3

    I work for a government agency that currently creates their graphics in Illustrator, exports them as EPS, and then places the graphics into MS Word templates for production. Sometimes, however, we have complicated graphics that use layerd transparencies. When these are saved as EPS files and converted to PDFs, white boxes and lines appear around the transparent objects. I believe it might be because the Transparency is flattened when you save as EPS, and this causes the lines to appaer (Saving out of AI directly to a PDF does not generate the white lines).
    My question: Is there any way to save from Illustrator to EPS WITHOUT flattening the transparency? Because of the current workflow of the agency, the graphics need to be in EPS format before being placed into the Word reports. We are upgrading to CS4 in the near future....might there be a way to do this in the new version? Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    the best solution its to save for web and devices and choose "png-24" . I use EPS only to interchange logotypes or simple draws with other designers

  • Is it possible to save as EPS file?

    I am making a logo using a couple of different fonts - no graphics. Is it possible to save as EPS file? Or, if not - is there a way to export it to another program that will save it as EPS file?

    OP - here is a thought.
    First, a Photoshop PDF with transparency is acceptable for InDesign. But many people want a flattened format to place in older programs such as Quark 6, or Pagewrecker.
    They often use EPS. Photoshop will outline all fonts in the EPS output. Also with EPS you do not have a dual file format, so you must save a copy. These are two fundamental differences between Photoshop EPS and Photoshop PDF.
    Here is another option if you need flattened output, but you still want the PSD info wrapped in a single file.
    Save as Photoshop PDF, layers checked.
    Select "PDF/X-1a" preset. By the standard, choose "None", When you do this "Photoshop Editing Capabilities" should default to enabled (if not, enable it)
    When you save in this fashion, you are saving a flattened PDF output with vector data for other applications, but you also retain the native Photoshop file. This file can be opened for editing in Photoshop and can also be opened for evaluation in Adobe Acrobat.
    Please, please be wary of Photoshop fonts. The fonts are embedded subset in the PDF, but sometimes you encounter glyph width errors when preflighting the PDF in Acrobat.
    Photoshop has vector capabilities, but these capabilities are half - baked. Each and every font glyph becomes a clipping mask for pixel data. Not an ideal construct. For some RIPS, Photoshop fonts can blow up like dynamite.
    I'm not trying to discourage utilizing Photoshop vector. But if possible, set your type in InDesign or Illustrator, it's safer in the long run.

  • Save as eps in binary language

    I need to save as eps from Illustrator in Binary, noy in ASCII.
    Can you help me, please?
    Thanks

    A proper EPS printer or application is required to handle both types without problems, so it shouldn't matter how it's encoded. Anyway, your best bet is to use a generic PostScript printer driver. It seems that newer versions of Adobe programs only support their own specific flavor and have ceased support for the legacy EPS format.

  • Can't save as 'eps' in Indesign cs6 trial.

    I am trying to design a logo and I am using a trial version of Indesign cs6. However, it will not let me "save as" an eps file. It only allows 'indesign cc template", "indesign cc document" and "Indesign CS4 or later".  How can I save my logo as an 'eps' on a transparent background so I can use it in the creation of my business card?

    All the google help pages say that you can save an eps file on a transparent background
    For example; http://smallbusiness.chron.com/create-eps-file-transparent-background-52652.html
    But I don't have the option in my Indesign "save as" > "format" drop down menu. It is so frustrating.
    I have been able to do it before, in Indesign cs6 on a PC.
    When you save a logo as an 'eps' file you onle see the actual logo making it very easy and functional to work with when using the logo to create a design. When you save it as anythig else the logo appears on a white page. Like a letterhead. on a document.

  • Should I open sent PDF's through PS (flatten then save as .eps) & then save as a PDF thru distiller

    Hi, I'm coming from a print background with newspapers where it was necessary to do the above with sent PDF's for print so that the fonts wouldn't bomb at print. I'm now working with a high gloss magazine and am wondering if it is necessary to do the same now. I have been doing it as routine with sent PDF's for print, once I ge the email I open in PS, make sure they are CMYK then flatten the image and save as .eps to open in Distiller and save as a PDF again. Again this was to make sure no fonts would bomb at print as per I was tought. (Used Quark when working with newspaper and thankfully am using InDesign for magazine). Is there any negative to doing this still? Even if the sent PDF's are fine (all True type font)? Could doing this, flatten and resave cause the iamges or fonts on the PDF's to lose quality at print? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't but I could be wrong with this higher quality print.
    Appreciate any advice here, as I'm slightly worried it may cause some loss of quality at print (fuzzy border around text - light but there). Thanks.
    Programs used are PS CS5, InDesign 5, Adobe Distiller 9. Final proofs are PDF's from InDesign to printer.

    The “workflow” you cite is absolutely not recommended for any purpose whatsoever. The only thing that can be said for it is that it produces consistently low quality results with extra steps and overhead. Forget about transparency and color management! The newspapers in question must have been either (1) working with antiquated, buggy RIP software from the previous millennia or (2) had personnel with mindsets and education from the previous millennia!
    Adobe strongly recommends use of direct PDF export from InDesign using the PDF/X-4 preset – never create PDF by distillation of PostScript!
    Although we strongly encourage use of OpenType fonts for their typographical features and cross-platform compatibility, in terms of output quality and reliability, use of Type 1 versus TrueType versus OpenType is irrelevant.

  • How to hide the standard save button

    Hi gurus,
    I am using the javascript below in my BPS Web Ap to perform a check function on save.  The Javascript runs the check function and then simulates the pressing of the standard save button.  It works fine.
    My problem is that I now need to hide the standard Save button as I don't want users to press it, just my code.  But there is no option in the application builder to hide those standard buttons.
    Is there some other way I can hide it?  Or is there some way I can perform the save from JavaScript without having to have a Save button?
    Cheers,
    Tristan
    <script type="text/javascript">
        function CheckAndSave()
                if (bspSubmit('FunctionButtonPerformCheck'))
                        bspSubmit('SaveButton1')
    </script>
    <span>
        <a href="#1" class=urBtnStd onClick="javascript:CheckAndSave();"
            <nobr>
                New Save

    Hi,
    If you have created your layout using transaction BPS_WB then you can hide the SAVE button.

  • Version to save PDF (for web view/printing)

    Hello,
    I am going to be linking an employment application on my client's website as a PDF. I am not sure what version to save it as (version for Acrobat Reader) so that it's most compatible with those visitors coming to the site. Does anyone know what would be a safe bet as far as what version to save my PDF as?
    Also, does anyone have any tips on how to best save it for downloading online but then printing it out?
    Thanks!
    Ashley

    You should probably go back to at least AA7, though there are those still using vers 4. You need to be a bit careful if you have added anything fancy, it will be lost. Also, if the form is to be used a lot (500 times is the limit), you do not want to activate Reader Rights (it is a violation for more than 500 uses). Just have the form submitted by having it printed or by submitting the form data (FDF file). For an application, you would want the submission to be to a web site (secure site preferred) due to the confidential information that would be included. The form data can be imported to the form using the FORMS>Manage Form Data>Import. You can do some database work directly from Acrobat (I am not good at that and the appropriate subforum is for forms) or you can use the tools in the FDF Toolkit to write server side code for the submission and data manipulation (there are Perl and C code examples in the toolkit).
    Good luck.

    Do you mean the transparent radio button is not available. The options under transparency will only be available if your document contains some blending mode or overprint.

    Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
    If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
