Version management in BOR object

Hi Gurus,
I have a custom BOR object and i am checking it from SWO1 transaction.But i am not able to do version management for the Z BOR object.Kindly provide the way to do the same.

Go to se 38, put this object there , in the same screen click on utilities -> version -> generate version.

Version Management for BAPI Object

As i said to to see the table which has all the required information , do check it once again ....
As sudhir said also u get the information
GOTO SWO1-->enter the Object type --> click --> display
Then click header in the tool bar (Hat symbol) then clik change data ... u will see the information ... and this is also available in table TOJTB...

Is there a way of managing version control of design object in XI,
i mean to say, can i have the the different(history) versions of design objects,
and is there any possibility to roll back a design object to a previous version,

Unfortunately, there is no tool delivered with SAP BW that provides the ability to compare objects across the landscape. There are some third-party tools that provide this functionality.
You could create your own by create an ABAP program, or several ABAP programs, using the following BAPI Function Modules to get the details of the objects in each environment and then do a comparison:

InfoObject Catalog - BAPI_IOBC_GETDETAIL
InfoObject - BAPI_IOBJ_GETDETAIL

Internal lock version management : Unable to copy objects

Hi ALL
We need help with this particular problem we are facing with our ID objects....
I am unable to copy my communication channels which i was able to do it earlier without any problem...just to make it easy while developing new object...we used to make a copy and edit...instead of creating new scratch.
However, now we are facing a problem once we try activating any copied object, here is the error message we are getting...
"Version management was unable to execute the last action because a temporary internal lock has been set. Repeat the action "
This is not a user lock....we checked that, please do let us know how we can fix this ...so that we may be able to copy and activate copied object without the above error.

Its Weird but it can happen if you copy object whose previous version is still not activated. I still think you must check with all the change lists. or bring all to PISUPER and activate them.
Oops then i think it got locked for all. Refresh the cache and even soft restart for J2EE.

Can JWS be used as a multiple Java version management tool?

WinNT4 WKS with JRE 1.3.1 - 1.4.2 loaded on it using IExplorer or Netscape.
We don't have a need for the JWS download features because our clients (and their applications) remain static for the most part. However, we do require multiple JRE version support because our customers have written class/objet "fixes" (mostly for text rendering) and these fixes break if you try and run the application on a different version of Java from which it was written. Basically, we can't have a default JRE on each machine and hope that it will work with all customer applications. So we will load all necessary Java components on our workstations (in this case JRE versions 1.3.1 - 1.4.2). I know that browsers can be forced to load with a specific Plug-in version (providing it exists on the machine) through Object & Embed tags in the HTML and that standalone apps can be directed to the correct Java directory path. My question is, can JWS automatically identify the Java requirements of our customers applications and act simply as a multi-version management tool to provide the right JRE/Plug-In for either standalone or browser applications? Keeping in mind that all the JREs will be loaded on the workstions and it won't need to download any components from some site.
I've noticed that JWS identifies all JREs loaded on a machine in the Java tab so I'm wondering if it can "switch" the environment as needed for each application.
Does anyone know if I can use JWS in the scenario I described above? Thanks!

JWS can manage the multiple JREs installed if you run the application through a .jnlp. This can not "switch" the default JRE. It runs the application specified in the .jnlp using the requested version specified in the .jnlp.
JWS does not apply to applets. You should use the object tags as you mentioned below.

No. You must determine this and setup the .jnlp appropriately.

How to add Target System to Remote Comparison in Version Management

Hello,
We have defined an RFC connection from System A to system B. We want to use system B for remote comparison or programs from system A. However, when we choose (from SE38):
Utilities -> Version Management -> REMOTE Comparison -> Target System
system B does not appear in the list.
How can we add system B to this list?

go to the object which u want to compare
go to->version management->select the TR request no->and select remote comparision there->and give the system where u need to compare this object
and next press compare

How to manage non-SAP objects types with SAP Netweaver ?

I would like to know how it is possible to integrate into the SAP software configuration managment tools (NWDI CTS, CTS+...) non-SAP objects like shell scripts or SQL requests ?
These shell scripts are, for example:
- external host scheduler jobs
- general scripts for start/stop application
- parameters needed by application at the os level
My goal should to store into a DEV SAP system these objects, in order to take benefit of SE80 version management. So, it should be possible to create transport order in SE10 and to transport these non-SAP objects in test and production system.

the standard functionality for this up until 4.72 is to call RFCs/BAPIs through a RFC binding library for the third party software, e.g. the language of your choice is PHP then you use the PHP RFC library found [here|http://saprfc.sourceforge.net/], if you have to connect from a .NET environment you might try to get the SAP .NET connector.

I am hoping someone can answer my Version Control queries. The LCM document is limited in its detail on VM.
I am currently testing the BO LCM 3.1 and while it appears very easy to use especially for promotion, the Version Control Manager seems to be lacking in controls and a clear promotion path from dev to test to uat to prod.
We have set up 2 identical environments for UAT and PROD.
And using the Version Control part of LCM creating version control for a universe.
Logged into VM in UAT
We have selected a universe
Added it to VM
Made a change to the universe in Designer
Exported it
Then Checked it in
Can now see 2 versions in the history and the VMS Version. All good
I then click on swap system and log into PROD
The VM history is also there in PROD
I have a number of concerns and questions and can't seem to find the solution to them anywhere.
1. VM seems to be lacking a controlled process from all the environments. Basically we want to deploy following this path;
Dev - Test - UAT - PROD
There does not seem to be any controls or security which would stop you from GET VERSION from the DEV environment and putting that straight into PROD. Obviously we would not want that to happen.
We would only want to GET VERSION from UAT
Similarly for UAT We would only want to GET VERSION from TEST
And for TEST We would only want to GET VERSION from DEV.
Granted, we currently only have 2 identical environments.
But Is there controls that would stop you when in PROD from getting versions from any other system other than UAT?
Also is there any reason why no promotion is required when using VM.
This seems to negate the Promotion Function of the LCM
Any advise would be greatly appreciated with this.

Hi,
You can do it with basis help . This is true for any object not having version management. Changes are always recorded in transports .
Find one of your old transports in SE03 . ( Find Objects for request ) . Object will be R3TR SSFO <SF_NAME>.
Ask your basis guy to force import it , it will overwrite the current version . Or just copy existing Samrtform to a new name ( delete the current one ) and then ask basis to retrieve the old transport .

Delegation of a BOR-Object not working

Hi Experts,
in order to implement some cutomer-specific workflows in HCM Performance Management, I would like to create the corresponding events.
Therefor I did the following:
1. I created an Object YAPPR_DOC as a subtype of APPR_DOC (ObjName: YAppraisalDocument; Programm: YRAPPR_DOC; Komponent: H).
2. I created a new event in YAPPR_DOC.
3. I set the new event as well as the BOR-Object itself to "implemented" and hit the "Genrerate"-Button.
4. I set up a delegation for BOR APPR_DOC to YAPPR_DOC in SWO6.
I think at this point I should see the new event in YAPPR_DOC when viewing the original BOR APPR_DOC, right? Unfortunately the new event isn't shown, altough the header data proves the existance of a delegation from APPR_DOC to YAPPR_DOC.
Did I miss something?

Hi Suresh,
the problem is, that the event cannt been seen in the appraisal definition's status flow as well.
I added a customizing entry for events in phap_catalog, which has the same technical name as the event I added to YAPPR_DOC.
In the status flow I can only see an empty row. It looks like the event cannot be found in APPR_DOC and so no discription is read.
Nevertheless in SWDD I am able to select the new event as the starter for a workflow.

Version Management of ODI interfaces

Dear All,
In a development envronment, if I need to configure, my ODI environment with any version managent system, what are the steps?
which version management systems could be used for the same and how?
How versioning of ODI objects is managened during development, ? is there any standard proces of mentodology to follow?
Suppose I created an interface and saved it as Interface1.0 and then modified is further and saveed it as Interface1.1, now I want to go back to Interface1.0 because the logic in the latest version was not appropriate and would like to restrat from Interface1.0 as a baseline. How to retrive older object? Is there any tool oracle proivdes for such version managemnt of ODI objects? if not can we use any other version management system to do the same? Wht is the process?

Technical upgrade - version management ?

Hi All,
I got a doubt in technical upgrade. My situation is technical upgrade from
3.1h to Ecc6.
I have been provided a list of standard programs generated by SPAU
after reset to original is made.
Since i dont have modification assistance i need to correct using version management only.
For programs i can use version management to compare old and new version and add the missing codes.
Whereas for list of things below how to compare and make the neccessary corrections.
Documentation, Screen, Messages,Report Texts,
Packages,Definition of a Maintenance and Transport Object,Transactions.
Expecting some solution from you all.

There will be no versions available for these objects.
U have to compare all these with the old system manually.
1) Messages: check for the attributes ,any changes in attributes of messages.
2) Screens: this is a tedious job, u have to compare the source code also here,u can compare the two screens in se51.Here u have to check for any changes in the earlier version by customer which is not present in ECC 6.
3) Transaction : In se93 in both systems check them manually, GUI support should be enabled in ECC 6
4) Documntation : if it is a function module documentation check for documnetation in se37 for that particular FM in both the systems. Likewise check for all other objects.
5)BADIs have a different method of SPAU adjustment, this does not show any versions too..

Version management in Essbase

Hi all - We're looking to do version management with our Essbase objects (outlines, calc scripts, etc) as part of an ITIL implementation. FYI, we were able to get EAL up and running after adding the following entries into the registry on our servers...
Solution
This timeout issue can be fixed by adding two tcpip registry parameters, but first you must identify which client was communicating with essbase when the timeout occurred so that you know which machine to add the parameters to. If all the EAL and EPM components are installed on a single machine, then that machine would also host the client. If products are installed in a distributed environment you determine the client machine based on how the EAL Essbase Server component is defined.
The APS URL is part of the Analytics Link, Essbase Server definition in EAL.
If the value (APS URL) is "Embedded" this means that the EAL Application Server is communicating via the JAPI directly with the Essbase Server. In this case the EAL AppServer is the client to the Essbase Server. For this case the following tcpip registry parameters need to go on the machine where the EAL Application Server is running.
If the (APS URL) value is http://serverName:13080/aps/JAPI then the EAL Application Server is communicating by way of Hyperion Provider Services (APS). In this case EAL proxies requests to and from the Essbase Server through APS. This means that APS is the client to the Essbase Server and the tcpip registry parameters need to go on the machine where Hyperion Provider Services are running.
Once you have identified which machine is acting as the client to essbase, set the TcpTimedWaitDelay=30 and MaxUserPort=65534 parameters via the windows registry.
1. Open the Windows Registry.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters.
3. Add new DWORD Value named "TcpTimedWaitDelay"
- right click and select Modify
- Select "decimal" radio button, type in 30.
4. Add new DWORD Value named MaxUserPort
- right click and select Modify
- Select "decimal" radio button, type in 65534
5. A reboot of the server is necessary.
