Version numbering scheme?

I know captivate doesn't automatically handle version control and I'm OK with that.
However, we're starting to talk here about the schema for version numbering.  That is, what constitutes a 2.0 release opposed to a 1.8 release?
In my former life working at a software production company we had very specific criteria that dictated if it was a 1.x.x release or a 1.x.x.x or what have you.
I'm curious if others are using version numbering schema and how are you determining what constitutes a change in which spot?
thanks

For what it's worth, the versioning scheme was a technical decision.  After surveying large amounts of content on the web, we realized that there was a lot of Flash detection logic in the world that was going to break when we moved to 11.10.xxx.xxx. (12.0.0.x isn't completely without consequences, but it's better)
The roadmap that we publish is the best indicator of what new functionality is in the pipeline:

  • SEQUENCE OF NUMBERING SCHEME IS TO BE CHANGED.

    Hi All,
In iProcurement contracts we have the possibility to use numbering schemes.
After defining a numbering scheme we are able to use the defined scheme, when we define a
contract template. When we activate the
renumber button, the contract terms are numbered according to the chosen (defined) scheme.
The present numbering is like this:
    Headsection A
    Part 1
    Part 2
    Part 3
    Headsection B
    Part 1
    Part 2
    Part 3
But we want to change this to
    Headsection A
    Part 1
    Part 2
    Part 3
    Headsection B
    Part 4
    Part 5
    Part 6
iProcurement Super User -> Setup : Contract Terms -> Numbering Schemes
    Product Version 11.5.10
Could any please suggest a workaround for thsi issue .

    Amol,
You would have to " Back date" the uninstall date and time as well. The Oldest date that you could have here has to be greater than the "end date" of the Previous time segment for the piece of equipment
The current date and time is always defaulted for Uninstall and Installation process, You would need to manipulate the same. You will not be be able to change the dates of the old time segments once a record has been created.

  • Tracking component version numbers

Is there a way to track component version numbers within Portal?
For example, when we do an application export, is there a db table that
shows which version number of each component was the exported version?

    Hi,
You could check the column VERSION in the table wwv_modules$ in the portal schema against the component name columns (NAME)

  • Unable to update numbering schemes in define purchasing options

    Hi,
We are unable to update the numbering scheme from manual to automatic in define purchasing options (Numbering Tab). Documentation says that you can update it, but it does not give any reason under what circumstances we would not be allowed to update the numbering schemes.
    Thanks,
    Ketul.

    Hi Sandeep,
I am doing multi organisation implementation and only one ledger they do not require Inventory and Purchasing modules. Because of that i will not create any inventory organisation for that selected ledger.
This ledger will have seperate responsibility for AP.
Howver, my problem is when i am trying to complete the financial options, inventory organisation is mandatory for that responsability. Without inventory organisation i am unable to save the financial options.
Please assist me how to overcome this issue.

  • Visual Studio 2010 Production Release Version Numbers

I uninstalled the beta and installed the production release.  After letting it convert my projects, I noticed that the version numbers for the .NET assemblies appear to be 13.0.2000.0 and in the beta version they were 14.0.2000.0.
Can someone from SAP confirm the version numbers for the production release?

    Hello,
You are correct. The final build is version 13. Long story due to download sizes and integration. I've updated 4 Images now both 32 and 64 bit and had no problems. Other major change is there is no connectivity to BOE Enterprise and no plans to add it.

  • Pro Applications Update 2009-01 doesn't change version numbers?

    Hi,
I ran the Pro Applications Update 2009-01 on my FCS installation. The update seemed to work fine, but when I open up FCP or any of the other apps, the version numbers are not changed. From the Pro Application Update page:
"Pro Applications Update 2009-01 is a revision to Final Cut Studio (2009). This update includes Final Cut Pro 7.0.1, Motion 4.0.1, Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1, Color 1.5.1, and Compressor 3.5.1. The software addresses general compatibility issues, improves overall stability, and addresses a number of other minor issues."
Since none of my FCS apps have upgrade version numbers, I can't tell if any of the fixes were applied. Is it possible I did something wrong when I ran the update?
    Thanks.
    Mike

Thanks Larry and David for your responses, but unfortunately I'm not seeing what you are
My Final Cut Studio 2009 apps are upgrades from the previous version. All the apps for FCS are in a "Final Cut Studio" folder that I created in Applications to hold the programs (I also drag this folder to the dock to have easy access to the apps).
If I do a Command-I on the apps in this folder, they all show the old versions. Spotlight shows there are no other versions other than the ones in my "Final Cut Studio" folder.
I wonder if the update's not working because I have the apps in a folder other than the original install location? The funny thing is that both VersionTracker and CNet's TechTracker say that there are new versions to install. But I would think that the updater would fail if I moved the apps from their original locations, not just end successfully?

  • How To version a Schema in SQL Developer?

How To version a Schema in SQL Developer? Is there any open source tool for windows? I used a trial version of Source Control for Oracle by Red Gate. But i am looking for a free tool or way around? Like we do versioning in Jdeveloper?Any help in this regard would be much appreciated.

SQL Developer supports e.g. Subversion out of the box.
Open Sql Developer Help and search for "Versioning"
    Using Versioning
SQL Developer provides integrated support for the Subversion and Git versioning and source control systems, and you can add support for other such systems as extensions by clicking Help, then Check for Updates. Available extensions include CVS (Concurrent Versions System) and Perforce.
This is the part about support for versioning. The next step would be how you organize your workflow so every source is available in your repository.
Maybe an online tutorial can help you: Using Source Code Control in Oracle SQL Developer 3.0

  • Version numbers

    Hi,
In the xml descriptions there is a version attribute
    with eg value 9.0.3.10.62
What is the difference between that and 9.0.3.10.93 (except that 62 is before 93 - I can see that ;) )
And why would I encounter problems with code that was created (including the xml files) on 62 but then compiled on 93. Eg on execution on 92 version of JDev of 62 version created code , at certain times a master detail scenario comes up with the error that an owning entity is not found
What would be the difference of the JDEV behind each ( I believe that both were 9.0.3.2 - am I wrong?)
    Thanks
    P.

    Olivier,
just saw that somebody did answer back.
i meant the xml descriptORS not descriptions - and apparently due to a mess up a 9.0.3 zip was unzipped in a directory called jdev9032 and nobody checked the version numbers.
    Wrong conclusion.
The issue was that when something was working when developed on 9.0.3, it failed to work when recompiled on 9.0.3.2 without any obvious explanations.
when the objects where forced to update their xml descriptors everything worked fine.
I still do not understand why things would go that bad and why nothing warns you about the wrong versions but i guess one should be more careful anyway
    P.

  • Different definition of file version numbers in Jdev and Subversion

In the SVN Red book(http://svnbook.red-bean.com/), they say that updating a single file creates the new revision of the whole repository.
So even if a file has not changed, it still can go to a higher version.
    +"Revision Numbers Are Different Now+
+In CVS, revision numbers are per file. This is because CVS stores its data in RCS files; each file has a corresponding RCS file in the repository, and the repository is roughly laid+
+out according to the structure of your project tree.+
+In Subversion, the repository looks like a single filesystem. Each commit results in an entirely new filesystem tree; in essence, the repository is an array of trees. Each of these trees is labeled with a single revision number. When someone talks about “revision 54”, he's talking about a particular tree (and indirectly, the way the filesystem looked after the 54th commit).+
+Technically, it's not valid to talk about “revision 5 of foo.c.” Instead, one would say “foo.c as it appears in revision 5.” Also, be careful when making assumptions about the evolution of a file. In CVS, revisions 5 and 6 of foo.c are always different. In Subversion, it's most likely that foo.c did not change between revisions 5 and 6."+
The above makes sense to me. But when I use JDeveloper with SVN, I see its showing me different version numbers with different files.
Can somebody explain. JDev essentially is showing the version of the file when it was last checked in, but because of changes in some other files, the "actual" version (as per the definition in redbook) might have changed...jdev DOES NOT show this change...why the apparent difference is what I want to understand.
    Thanks,
    Amit

    Thanks for your replies.
@Timo - I checked out the project from SVN repository to a new folder. It still shows the old versions for some files. In other words, all files are not on same version as shown in app navigator.
@John - I have tried to reproduce the sections from the Redbook that I felt relevant and that led me to thinking what I am thinking (expecting) now.

  • Version Numbers Vs. Patch Levels For Web Tools

I have noticed that version numbers for Web Tools such as 620, 621, 622, 624, 625, 627, and 628 correspond somehow to the patch level (6, 8, 10, etc.). What is the difference between the version numbers and patch levels, and which ones match up with which?

    Hi Michael,
Prior to p10, the last digit of the version corresponds to the patch level.
From p10 going forward, the last set of digits represents the patch.
    Patch 10 is 2007.0.630.10
    Patch 11 will be 2007.0.631.11
The version will only change if there are upgrade scripts that need to run for the patch.

  • Crover - generate OS version numbers for Arch Linux

Arch is a rolling distro, but did you ever wish it still had release numbers? So you could check what "version" you currently have installed, and upgrade to the latest "version" if necessary, with a reasonable delay between versions?
Of course you didn't. No sensible person would want to attach pseudo-version numbers to a rolling distro.
    https://code.google.com/p/crover/
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/crover/
crover returns a version number for Arch Linux based on time elapsed since the distro's initial release (March 11, 2002). The number format is X.Y, with X being years and Y being subdivisions of the current year. By default, the version number is generated for the current date with a subdivision size of one week.
As of this writing, the current version is Arch Linux 12.1. In other words, Arch is 12 years and 1 week old.

Hmm, you could actually make this somewhat more relevant to actual update practices if you wanted. Were I to try to accomplish such a task, I would figure out a way to check and see if all the official repos are up-to-date (or just if all the packages the user has installed are up-to-date with `checkupdates`). Then, take the number of seconds elapsed since Arch's release till the last update (which brought that rig up-to-date).
Then, you could grab the user's list of currently installed packages with pacman and take a hash of it. And, by concatenating those two figures together, you could get some semblance of a "version" number. For example, mine would be something similar to the following:
    378691200.4c41d609
Not to mention, with this calculation, it would not be difficult to format the time part of the version in a variety of ways. May be worth thinking about
    All the best,
    -HG

  • Numbering schema in Product Hierarchy reg

    Hello Experts,
We are implementing CRM 7.0, as part of the initial load we had downloaded DNL_CUST_PROD1 from ECC. But after replication we came to know that the numbering schema for Product Hierarchy is not 5,5,8 but changed to something else. When I tried doing the changes to numbering scheme, it is giving some error.

Can you please help me in understanding how to change the numbering scheme and re-do the intial load.

  • CC apps version numbers? Can't find current version number of apps in Download Center

Is there a way to see the current version numbers of the different apps on the Adobe website, or in CC Download Center? All I see is that they are version CC.
Well, that doesn't tell me much...is it After Effects 12.0, 12.1? Photoshop 14.0, 14.1, 14.1.2? I can't tell which is the most current from your website. The CC app isn't any better as I can't trust what it says. I have apps installed, but it doesn't recognize them – It's shows that I need to install them. Is that because I need to update it? It doesn't show as an update, only that I need to install it.
If I could tell from your website (Download Center) what the current release version of the software is, I could at least compare it to the version I have installed on my machine.

  • Curiosity - Network Volume Version Numbers

When my computers loose connectivity to network drives, the next time they connect a version number is appended to the volume name (only seen in some locations - such as alias "Original:" path (Get Info) and in some applications). While not USUALLY a problem, I have had issues with Backup not finding my Time Capsule Disk apparently because of a "change" in volume name (yes, I am using Time Machine but I also have a need for Backup). I have two Time Capsules, one with the volume "<volumename>-43" and the other "<volumename>-20", that I'm assuming have lost connectivity 43 and 20 times respectively.
Is it possible to "reset" these version numbers - or better yet, keep them from happening in the first place?

I'm having the exact same issue, which breaks all my references to the volume. I have to update the path to include the new number <volumename>-5 currently. The problem happens when I do a restart, or loose network connection for other reasons. I happens on my desktop (Mac Pro) and my laptop (MacBook Pro) when mounting to my Tiger Server (PowerMac G5). It is extremely frustrating and makes code development a pain in the butt when I use my server for file storage.
