Version of SQL Server Express for a Secondary Site in Configuration Manager 2012 R2

Hi,
I want to install a secondary site in my Configuration Manager 2012 R2. I want to install the SQL Server Express in a diferente drive. To do so, I want to previous install the SQL Server Express.
Can I use the SQL Server 2014 Express?
Thanks in advance...
Dmsousa

Sorry, going to be blunt here, but this is why "best practices" are useless. If you don't know the "why" of the best practice and when to apply it, it will cause you to do things that simply aren't necessary (or even harmful) by
blindly trying to apply them. It is simply is not necessary for secondary sites for perf or any other reason. Also, if this is a VM, then your virtual disks will most likely be on the same physical disks which means you do *not* in any way gain any perf benefits
anyway (perf benefits come from have additional physical spindles -- logical separation is just that *logical*).
You have far bigger challenges ahead of you, push the easy button on this one, let ConfigMgr deploy SQL Express for you and move on.

During installation, there were no any errors.

I did search everywhere but still I didn't find anything, please help me resolve this issue. I downloaded Sql server management studio 2014 from here-> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-in/evalcenter/dn434042.aspx
Inside `win+r` as i type `services.msc` I'm unable to see any sql or service into it.

I downloaded sql server management studio 2014 from the official website. But when I open the Sql server 2014 Configuration Manager there are

Of course not, SSMS = SQL Server Management Studio is just a tool/frontend, not a Service. You have to install SQL Server database engine.

  • SQL Server Express compatibility with Windows 8.1 - Which version(s) are compatible?

We have purchased a new computer that has Win 8.1 Pro. We are migrating an application from a Win 7 Pro machine we are currently successfully using (the vendor migrates it for us) and they have said that the application will require the installation of SQL
Server 2008 Express (which we do have on our Win 7 machine).
In looking at the requirements for SQL Server 2008 Express (on the download page for it), it does not mention it being compatible with Win 8.1
In addition, Installation Instructions  says that it requires:
     Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
     Windows Installer 4.5.
     Windows PowerShell 1.0
I see that 3.5 is already listed as a program feature of Win8.1 and I've enabled it. Do I need to install SP1? I downloaded it, and launched it, and nothing happened.
I also looked at the Windows Installer 4.5 download page, and it's not clear if that is compatible with 8.1. Do I need to download and install it?
Power Shell 2.0 is already installed. I assume that will be backwards compatible with PowerShell 1.0; is that correct?
I saw another question about SQL Server Express Compatibility with Win 8.1 (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/038ec00e-4fc1-41ba-9fdc-21c022aad67e/action?threadDisplayName=sql-server-express-compatibility-with-windows-81) and the response
said that SQL Server Express 2012 will work, but the link contained in the answer led to a page for SQL Server Express 2014.
My vendor has told me that SQL SERver Express 2012 will be backwards compatible with their product. But they said that I would first have to install 2008 first. Is that correct for Win 8.1?
    So, the ultimate questions are:
    1. What is the link for Sql Server 2012 Express for Win 8.1?
    2. Will the SQL Server 2012 Express download require prior install of the 2008 version
    3. What other component requirements are required for SQL Server 2012 Express, and how can I determine if they have already been installed. (This is a brand new computer with a clean Win8.1 Install).
    4. Finally, can we use the 2014 version of SQL Server Express for Win 8.1? If so, questions 1, 2 and 3 apply, too.
Thanks for your help on this!! HIGH ANXIETY.

  • Can i use sql server express 2008, 2012, and 2014 for commercial purpose?

    Good day,

  • SQL Server Express with SS Management Studio. Which version is lightest/smallest?

I’m looking to download the smallest/lightest version of SQL Server Express with SS Management Studio.
    Which option should I choose?
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29062
Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.

    Hello,
What's the main propuse you use SQL Server Express edition? If you just use SQL Server in development. You can try to use SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB.
LocalDB is a lightweight version of Express that has all its programmability features.SQL Server Express LocalDB runs in user mode, and you can install it more quickly with fewer prerequisites (a minimal set of files necessary to start the SQL Server Database
    Engine) and no configuration.

  • SQL Server Express hosting and EULA

Hi, I have a (possibly stupid) question. I want to use SQL Server Express for hosting. It is for a small project and on a dedicated server, so I don't think there would be any problems with the limitation of express edition.
However, I have run into one formal problem:
If I look at the the SQL 2014 Express_Hosting_Redistribution_EULA (found at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29693), it has section 2b. which permits hosting. But in the license terms that are in the installation, this section i missing,
so the "You may not use the software for commercial software hosting services" rule would apply.
Why is that? Is there another version of SQL Server Express that allows hosting? If so, where can I find it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can use Express edition for Hosting, its allowed and EULA is correct. Just because it is missing in License terms "does not means it is not allowed".

  • Convert Existing MDB database files to SQL Server Express

    Hi All,
Can some one please help me on this:
    1) What is the current version of SQL Server Express?
    2) HOw much SQL Server Express costs (figure about 500 branch servers)
3)Are there any Tools from Microsoft to convert Access 97 directly to SQL Server express, and how much do they cost?
4)Server Hardware requirements to run SQL Server Express - disk size, memory size, security settings, pre-requisite, service needed.
5)Maximum capacity / capabilities of SQL Server Express-max # of simultaneous users, tables, rows, database size.
6)Any installation instruction for SQL Server Express.
    Thanks in Advance, Pls help
    Thanks
    Tony

    Hi Tony,
Besides Bruce’s post, firstly, SQL Server Express is a free SQL Server edition,
you can download SQL Server 2014 Express directly from
this link and install it on your computer. For how to install SQL Server 2014 Express, please follow the steps in this similar
    blog.
Secondly, for more information about hardware and software requirements for Installing SQL Server 2014 Express, please review this article:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx .
Thirdly, SQL Server Express has the following limitations:
    • 1 physical processor
    • 1 GB of RAM
    • 4 GB database size per database in SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server 2008 Express , 10 GB database size per database in SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and higher versions of SQL Server Express.
However, there is no limit to the numbers of databases in SQL Server Express. And there is no technical limit to the number of connection that SQL Express can handle.
In addition, there are several methods to convert an Access database to SQL Server, such as using
SQL Server Import and Export Wizard and
SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access, they are both free tools. For more information about convert an Access database to SQL Server, please review this
    KB article.

  • Uninstalled SQL Server Express, ReInstalled 2014 -- Where is it?

When I went to programs and features I was horrified because I could see lots of installations of SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2014.
So I uninstalled them all and downloaded SQL Server 2014 for a fresh installation. On the third try, I see that SSMS installed. SSMS did not appear on the start menu the first two tries at installing SQL Server 2014.
When I run SSMS I tell it to browse for all the local versions of SQL Sever and it cannot find any even though I just installed it. When I use the control panel to look at Programs and features I see some entries for MS SQL Server 2014. Hmmm...
When I run the Services GUI from control panel to start and stop SQL Server and its friends, I don't see any of them there.
What is going on? How do I connect to my instance of SQL Server I just installed?

    Hi,
    You Just downloaded below software
    Installation location:         C:\Users\siegfried\Downloads\SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU\x64\setup\
      Installation edition:          Express
As per above you dowmloaded just 64 bit version of SQL Server express. SSMS helps you in connecting to database engine it is not THE database engine. So you would have to download DB engine software.
    You can browse
this Link . When you click on download please download below file
Express 64BIT\SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe 196 MB. After download is complete install it.
This link would help you a bit in installation.

  • Totally frustrated with SQL Server Express Install

Before updating my PC to Windows 8.1 I had a working VS 2008 environment and SQL Express 2005. Now that I have upgraded the OS, I am unable to get any version of SQL Server Express to work with my version of Visual Studio. I spent a couple of weeks trying
to get what should have been a very simple process of creating a working connection string. None of the examples on several "connection string" web sites worked. I had difficulty installing the correct version and finally zeroed in on SQL
Server Express 2008 (SP3).  Then, after several posts to community forums I discovered it should have been installed BEFORE I installed VS 2008 ... so, very reluctantly, I uninstalled EVERY SQL Server related file and EVERY VS 2008 file on my system.
Reinstalled SQL Server 2008 (SP3), SQL Server Management Studio 2104 (even though I selected SSMS 2008 from the MS Download site), then installed VS 2008.  I opened and created a test DB using SSMS 2014 and everything seems to work.  BUT, when I
try to access the table from VS 2008 I pretty much am running into similar issues.... Like an earlier post on a frustrated user, WHY is it so difficult now?

    Hello,
You can use Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 installed, but SQL Server 2005 is not supported on Windows 8. I will recommend you to uninstall
SQL Server 2005 via Control Panel or use the following article for that purpose:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967
Once SQL Server 2005 is uninstalled you can install other newer versions of SQL Server. SQL Server 2008 requires SP3 to make it compatible with Windows 8, while SQL Server 2008 R2 requires SP1. For more information, please read the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562
    Hope this helps.

  • Does a version of SQL Server come with VS 2013 Professional?

I have purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 and would now like to install VS 2013 Professional on it so that I can upgrade a couple of Windows applications (currently on a different computer) to the newer VS version. All these applications are using/connecting
to an SQL 2008 Database. I'd like to upgrade the SQL Database Server by installing the newer version on this laptop as well. Does VS 2013 Professional install a version of SQL Server? Do I have to purchase SQL Server 2012 separately? I know I can install SQL
Sever 2012 Express but would really prefer the full version of SQL Server. If I purchase VS 2013 Professional with MSDN subscription would that give me a full version of SQL Server to install?
    Thanks
    Dweezil

    >Does VS 2013 Professional install a version of SQL Server?
    Yes.  It installs
SQL Server 2012 Express Edition LocalDb, which is small install of the SQL Server engine that runs on-demand in your session.  Visual Studio includes
SQL Server Data Tools, which has all the tooling you need to building and maintaining SQL Server database applications.
You can additionally install the service-based version of SQL Server Express Edition, and SQL Server Management Studio Express Edition.  This will give you a traditional service-based database engine and stand-alone management tool, just like the other
    editions of SQL Server.
    >If I purchase VS 2013 Professional with MSDN subscription would that give me a full version of SQL Server to install?
Yes.  Visual Studio 2013 Professional with MSDN gives you full SQL Server under MSDN licensing.
    http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/msdn-subscriptions-vs#SKUDetailList_1
    You can also
buy a SQL Server Developer Edition as a stand-alone tool.  Developer Edition is identical to Enterprise Edition, except licensed for development purposes.

  • Robohelp/SQL Server Express

    Hello,
Is RH7 or later compatible with any version of SQL Server
Express? Or is it hard coded to use only the prehistoric Microsoft
    Jet Database Engine?

    Hi there
Indeed you are correct in that one of the project files is a
Microsoft Access Database file. And you are correct in that this
file is the reason we advise folks against working with projects
stored on a network. Not only do you see slow performance, but you
also see frequently corrupted projects causing all sorts of
nightmares, headaches and other unwanted behavior.
No, there is no way to use SQL server nor am I aware of any
    plans on implementing it.
So the question here is why are the users insistent on
storing projects on the server? Or is that the IT perspective? That
all projects should be stored on the server so you may back them
up? If so, note that we typically recommend users work locally and
periodically copy the projects to the server for backup. I even go
a step further and recommend also burning to CD-ROM as it's always
been my experience that restoring from your own backup is
infinitely more efficient than contacting IT and trying to advise
    what needs restoring.

  • Procedure performing a "Retry Secondary Site" Operation in SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Server

    Dear Brother,
My SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Site Server, unfortunately crashed and required to be restored, doing this I end up performing a "Retry Secondary Site Operation.
One by one I am clearing out the errors but there are few remaining errors on the prerequisite checks:
1.[Failed]:The logon account for the SQL Server service cannot be a local user account, NT SERVICE\<sql service name> or LOCAL SERVICE.  You must configure the SQL Server service to use a valid domain account, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SYSTEM.
Actions Done: SQL Related Services use Logon As Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" , but still the above message still appears in the logs.
    Actions Done: None
2.[Failed]:The collation of the site database does not match the collation of the parent site's database.  All sites in a hierarchy must use the same database collation.
3.[Failed]:The site server might be unable to publish to Active Directory. The computer account for the site server must have Full Control permissions to the System Management container in its Active Directory domain. You can ignore this warning if you have
manually verified these permissions. For more information about your options to configure required permissions, see
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=233190.
Actions Done: None, as this machine is previously a working Secondary site for 1 Year already. So I do not suspect anything from the current related configuration.
4.[Failed]: Either the user account running Configuration Manager Setup does not have sysadmin SQL Server role permissions on the SQL Server instance selected for site database installation, or the SQL Server instance could not be contacted to verify permissions.
    Setup cannot continue.
Action Taken:  Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" has a
Sysadmin roles and actually all the check boxes are chosen to acquire all SQL account roles"
    5. [Failed]:Prerequisite checks complete with failure - check ConfigMgrPrereq.log
in the root of the primary site server system drive.
6[Failed]:Unable to complete secondary site server installation - check ConfigMgrSetup.log in the root of the secondary site server system drive.

  • Problem with Datasource for SQL Server Express

I have set up a development environment to develop some processes for the HCSO client and have a question.  I have a turnkey install on my laptop with MYSQL.  The liveCycle databases are in MYSQL.  I have also installed SQL Server Express on this machine and created a table to query that will control workflow.  I added a datasource configuration in the adobe-ds.xml configuration file.  That configuration is:
    <local-tx-datasource>
                <jndi-name>HCSO</jndi-name>
                <connection-url>jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DatabaseName=DBName</connection-url>
                <driver-class>com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver</driver-class>
                <user-name>username</user-name>
                <password>password</password>
                <min-pool-size>1</min-pool-size>
                <max-pool-size>30</max-pool-size>
                <blocking-timeout-millis>60000</blocking-timeout-millis>
                <autoReconnect>true</autoReconnect>
                <idle-timeout-minutes>15</idle-timeout-minutes>
                <prepared-statement-cache-size>100</prepared-statement-cache-size>
                <transaction-isolation>TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED</transaction-isolation>
                <new-connection-sql>Select id from HCSOUser.eric</new-connection-sql>
                <check-valid-connection-sql>Select id from HCSOUser.eric</check-valid-connection-sql>
                <metadata>
                      <type-mapping>MS SQLSERVER2000</type-mapping>
                </metadata>
          </local-tx-datasource>
In SQL Server, I created a user and a schema with the same name in a database.  I created a simple table called "eric" with one column called "id".  The user was given the appropriate default schema and given full permissions on the database and table.
In workbench, I added a JDBC query single row activity.  I have configured the datasource as java:/HCSO and also tried java:HCSO.  I then entered the query as "Select id from HCSOUser.eric" and hit test.  Nothing appears in the results area.  I see the following in the server.log:
    2009-09-24 14:44:26,437 ERROR [org.jboss.ejb.plugins.LogInterceptor] RuntimeException in method: public abstract java.lang.Object com.adobe.idp.dsc.transaction.impl.ejb.adapter.EjbTransactionBMTAdapterLocal.doBMT(com.ad obe.idp.dsc.transaction.TransactionCallback) throws com.adobe.idp.dsc.DSCException:
