Version says 2.2 but wont update to newer software
I am using my daughters old I Pod touch. I want to load my apps on it, but I get a message that says that I need newer software to do so. when I run a check version I am told that I am up to date with version 2.2. Can I update the software to a newer version so that I can use my apps?
The 1G iPod can only go to iOS 3.1.3. It is a paid update that yu get here, not through iTunes.

Are you sure it's not 6.1.6? If it is, that is the latest iOS version that will work on a 4th generation iPod Touch. Later versions require a 5G iPod which has twice as much RAM.

It is hooked up to good wifi and it is updating apps and not updating it just says waiting and it wont update or install anything while it is doing that how do I get it to stop updating?

recently i had a virus on my computer removed and ever since then my ipod mini will charge but wont update...any advice???
I am finally up and running. I wrote earlier about trying to get my daughters ipod mini working. I had to get rid of iTunes 7 and go back to iTunes6 (suggested by ski mblz from Alabama earlier in this thread, thank you). It was not a cut and dry process. Had a hard time finding all the songs, and it still froze on me a few times and I had to Restore twice...but the bottom line is it's finally working...until next time we download songs! Thank you to everyone.

Hello, I have ipad version 1 (3yrs old) and I am still running on i.os.5.1.1.
How can I update to new software as I am unable to run some apps.
Itunes is up to date and I have synced but when I click on software is says my software is up to date but mu iphone is running on a newer version?

i used reliance dongle to browse internet on mountain lion, at first it gave me problems but after updating the reliance software it worked fine. Now i have upgraded my osx to mavericks. At last i did some experiments and it solved my problem... heres the solution :
1. Install the reliance drivers and software from their website.
2. As the reliance software is not supported my mavericks it wont open, but dont worry.
3. Now after installation go to system preferences->network->and select "ZTE Wireless Terminal".
4. Configuration: Default
Telephone number: #777
Account name and password should be the owners number.
5.Finish ! press apply and click Connect...

No - I'm on 10.6.8 and it functions normally, though there are now very few actual updates. If there are no updates the progress bar should still complete in around 3 minutes and announce that there are no updates, so you've got something hanging somewhere. If it's still stuck hit command-option (alt)- escape, select Software Update and hit Force Quit. You could try it again (I should reboot first) in case it's a one-off glitch, but if it still sticks force quit it again.
The best suggestion I can offer is to apply the combo updater anyway in the hope that it may over-write whatever is causing the problem.

i have version 4.3.3 and am updating my iphone software. I am updating it on a computer that is not mine, as i only have an iPad. Can I do this without loosing my music, apps, photos, etc?
You do see the devices heading on the left sidebar? If you don't see the sidebar, go to View>Show sidebar in the iTunes menu and then check to see if the device appears.
If that isn't the problem, go through the troubleshooting steps. It could be the Apple Mobile Device Service issue.
