Version Set is not created when editing with Photoshop CS4?

Last week I was working in PSE7 and opening files into PS CS4 for editing. I open the files by clicking the Open with link and choose Photoshop. I edited several dozen photos and when I closed them from PS CS4 Version Sets were created in PSE7 like they should be. At some point that stopped happening. Now when I do as before and open the files into PS CS4, edit them, and then close them the Version Set is not being created in PSE7. I look in the folder containing the files and the file has a new modified date but it still has the same file name instead of being saved with the - edited name as before. Does anyone know why the version sets are no longer being created when editing with PS CS4? I can edit the files with the PSE7 editor and the version sets are created as they should be. Thanks!

Okay so tha there is no misunderstanding here is exactly what I'm doing. From the PSE7 Organizer I select a photo (file name Tetons & Jenny Lake 026.jpg) and click the Fix tab. I then click More Options and select Photoshop. The photo opens in into PS CS4. I make my edits click the x on the tab to close the image and I'm asked "Save changes to the Adobe Photoshop document "Tetons & Jenny Lake 026_edited-1.jpg" before closing?" I click Yes then click OK to save the image at maximum quality. I go back to the PSE 7 Organizer and there is no version set. I check the folder the original image was in and see the original file Tetons & Jenny Lake 026.jpg with a new modified date and time. I can even choose Save As from PS CS4 and it asks me if I want to overwrite Tetons & Jenny Lake 026_edited-1.jpg and I select Yes, but I get the exact same results. Thanks!

  • Why does Lightroom color not match when editing in Photoshop CS3

I just started Using Lightroom 4, the only version of lightroom that I have used. Short version, saves me heaps of time. But I went to edit more in photoshop and noticed that the color is dramatically different. I have Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1)and the color space is ProPhoto to match lightroom. If I make edits in lightroom, say removing dust spots, it shows in the photoshop version. It seems that on the shadow side is where it really shows. My workflow would be to import as original RAW in lightroom 4 (canon 1d mark II) and go about editing. Right click to edit in Photoshop CS3, and this is where colors go crazy. Then if I save the file with no edits done in Photoshop and compare side by side in lightroom, they are completely different. What is causing the drastic difference?
These are screenshots where in the left screenshot the original image is the dark image and the lighter is what it looks like when opened in Photoshop. The compare in lightroom on the right screenshot is what it looks like when I saved the file from Photoshop. So how does opening in Photoshop, then hitting save change the image? If i make the edit in lightroom then export the jpeg and open in photoshop, I get the appropriate color, exactly the same as my original lightroom raw.
My external editor settings in lightroom are tiff, prophoto colorspace.
photoshop preferences are to preserve embedded profiles.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, when you "Edit in" Photoshop CS3, it should give a warning dialog that says the version of ACR in Photoshop isn't compability, with the option "Open anyway" (won't work well) or "Render in Lightroom" (which should be fine).  Or, if you've created your own "Edit in" preset, you should get the option "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments".
So long as you've chosen "Render in Lightroom" or "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments" (depending on how you've edit up "Edit in...") then colour should be OK.
Colour options in PS should be something like:
Check all the "Ask when..." options, just to make sure you get warned of mis-matches.  And I suggest the RGB policy should be "preserve...".
And the final thing: to be sure of no colour mis-match, you need a calibrated/profiled monitor (with a hardware tool like Spyder, ColorMunki, Eye-One etc).  When there isn't a monitor profile containing a colour space (which needs a hardware tool, generally) then different programs can make different assumptions and display the same image differently.

  • LR 1.3.1 auto stacks photos when editing with Photoshop

    Hi,
No matter what I do I can't stop Lightroom 1.3.1 from automatically importanting the TIFF I creat when I perform a "edit with Photoshp CS3" on any of my RAW files. This never used to be a problem the auto update updated my Lightroom to the latest release a couple months ago. This sounds like a regression bug to me. I searched the forum before I submitted this, but I don't see anybody else with this issue.
    Mike

When I export to Photoshop, then save, I have a PSD file stacked with my raw file. But when I am in Library, filtering my collection by the Metadata Browser by Date (for one specific day), and then I select by star rating, I have these two separate images, that won't "stack" together. And all the stacking commands are greyed out. Only when I am viewing my thousands of images (un "filtered") do the stacking commands seem to work. I can't find anything about this in the help. I only want to see the #1 image from each stack!
    Thanks.

  • Aperture 3 and Round trip edits with Photoshop CS4

In Aperture 2, if I selected a Master or Version in my Aperture library and then right-clicked and edited in Photoshop. Made my changes in photoshop and then saved it, the changes would be created in a new version in the Aperture library. When viewing the PSD in Aperture, all my changes would be visible. In a sense it felt like a new "master".
In Aperture 3, if I duplicate those steps, save the edited photo in PS CS4, the resulting image in the Aperture library doesn't show my edited changes UNLESS I press 'M' to display the master. This feels like a bug. In other words, if I toggle back and forth between the original version (which I used to edit and send to PS) and the new Photoshop PSD file, they look identical until I toggle the Master and then I see all my photoshop edits. Very different behavior from Aperture 2--at least for me.
Can anyone explain what I am seeing? Is this an expected behavior? I hope I was clear enough.

i havent pressed M, but I have noticed that it takes aperture a longer time in AP3 to display the edits on an image that has been roundtripped to CS4. If you jump to full screen from browser view it should show the edits immediately, but sometimes when i go back into browser mode it switches back to an unedited view. however after a minute (sometimes more) the changes will be noticable both in full-screen and browser view without any toggling. I think it's just taking longer to update the image..it doesnt necessarily require you to toggle M forever to see the edits.
at least not in my case.

  • Editing with Photoshop CS4 from PSE8 Organizer

I have made numerious attempts to use Photoshop CS4 to edit an image in the PSE8 organizer rather than Photoshop Elements. There is a shortcut to launch CS4 which is Ctrl-H rather than the usual Ctrl-I. CS4 launched and I complete the edit. I do a save as but Organizer retains the Edit in Progress red bar across the image (edited version) and this does not go away even when CS4 is closed.
If I close PSE8 Organizer the Edited file is no longer there, in Elements or indeed in the folder. The same happens whether I save as a jpg or psd file.
Can anyone point out what is going wrong or give me the correct procedure for making this work.
    Peter

Peter I would love to find a solution for you.
There has always been a bug with PSE7 requiring edited RAW images from ACR to be manually imported back into PSE Organizer. This may apply to Jpegs and could have rolled-over into PSE8.
As PSE8 is fully supported I suggest you raise a ticket with Adobe Support through the contact link but it does not guarantee a solution to your problem.
This Adobe tech Note gives further details.

  • HUGE file sizes when editing with Photoshop CS5

Reluctantly I've set Photoshop CS5 up to process photographs for things like barrel distortion that my 18-200 Nikon seems especially prone to.
I open any given photograph with apple-shift-O, make my changes and save. However, the copy that's then put back into Aperture 3 the file size comes out as anything between 30mb and 70mb per photograph - far too big.
I've tried both TIFF 16-bit) and PNG (16-bit) options in Aperture which makes no difference. I've had a look through Photoshop CS5 options but can't see anything which looks correct.
    Thanks

    mjw_london wrote:
I can only assume that it's like this because Aperture 3 only basically allows 2 options, to open in an external editor with either TIFF or PSD - both of which are undesirable because of their huge filesizes. Is there a way of making it open in an external editor with JPEG?
Like jade said, it is not ridiculous. Ideally you would be shooting RAW not (lossy) JPEG to start, but even if you do shoot lossy JPEG you should convert to a lossless format like TIFF or PSD for the entire process of any editing. Large file sizes are a good thing not a bad thing because larger sizes represent more image data. And, hard drive capacity is cheap.
Note that JPEG is a lossy compression algorithm, so when you open a JPEG in Aperture, Photoshop, whatever, the file is decompressed and becomes larger. You can again compress the file (such as back to JPEG) when done editing but be aware that each new compression by a lossy algorithm like JPEG loses image data and may also add undesirable visible artifacts.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS4... does not open the selected file.

Sorry if this is an old topic, but I can not seem to find the answer and I was hoping someone here might know.
When in Lightroom (2.2 or 2.3) if I select "Edit in Photoshop CS4..." or any of those dropdown commands, Photoshop opens....and that is it. The selected photo from Lightroom is NOT opened/merged/panoramaized. duuh. frustrating.
So I re-installed Lightroom, updated to the 2.3, re-installed CS4. all with the same effect that Photoshop opens, but the selected file is NOT opened.
Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

    When you remove the obvious,
that which is left must therefore be the truth -- Sherlock Holmes
    Short version:
When I created a new lightroom catalog, and imported a single, standalone file, It worked fine. But when I imported to the new catalog, any photos from my existing catalog, it would fail.
Turns out that I was doing something a bit out of the ordinary with the IPTC Copyright field. In order to make my copyright information look "different" when I would export a file.
One would normally put in that field something like "© 2009 someone". I discovered a few months ago that I could make this field display as a multi line entry.
    ie.
if you wanted to put XY into the copyright field, but wanted it to display as:
    X
    Y
all you would have to do is to put a carrage return between the two characters. (hint ctl^enter). Now when you displayed the "copyright" in an output file, it will display
vertically instead of all the characters in a horizontal line.
After being frustrated by this for a couple of weeks, I simply started removing every option that I might have applied to photographs that I would import with Lightroom. One of the last ones was the "vertical" information I put in the copyright field in a Preset. (when you remove the obvious...).
Funny thing is that no program really cares about the formatting of that field, or if it has multiple lines in the data, or special characters.......It even opens up just fine in Photoshop / Gimp / PSE / etc. with no problems.
But, if you have multiple lines of data in the Copyright Field (and I suspect others as well),
AND you want to open up the file from Lightroom in Photoshop, using the standard menu item of " Edit with Photoshop CS4", for some reason Photoshop will start, but never open the designated file. I would expect some parsing something just giving up after it encounters a CR.
But.....All is well that ends well. Now I can quit obsessing, and move on to something else...
    Best,
    Jim

  • Can't edit with Photoshop

I'm having an issue trying to edit my images.  When I right click on an image and go to "edit with - photoshop CS4" nothing happens.  I've tried several times with several images and nothing.  The other day when I was editing it suddenly started opening IrfanView instead of Photoshop.  Now, I just tried again to doublecheck and Photoshop isn't even an option - only Illustrator CS4 and IrfanView.  This is getting frustrating.  Is anyone else having a similar issue with the "edit with" feature?  Any ideas on how to remedy this issue?

Yes, I've had the same problem using IDCS4 on Win XP. I got MS Paint opening and I vaguely recall what I did to fix it.
Thinking it was a memory problem I know I 'Closed' and 'Re-Opened' IDCSC4 at least once. I must have closed Photoshop and Acrobat also to free up RAM prior to doing this. I think failing that, I rebooted (maybe more than once, and to a full, dead, shut down and wait for the RAM to fully discharge for 5 minutes, as I recall). Then I just started and launched ID only, and it went away, finally. It hasn't reared it's ugly head since.

  • Error FS206 Down pmnts w/ taxes not permitted when processing with jur.code

Issue:   I am encountering a problem entering Taxes when applying  down payments received from customers since we are using a jurisdiction code taxation procedure.  This process works as desired in Europe for our firm.  I found OSS 97288 which is not valid for version ECC 6.0.  Please assist due to US go-live in 2 weeks.Process:  Create Down Payment Request for cash in advance.  Required to tax at this point.  Billing document creates a noted item in the G/L (Special G/L).  I apply customer's payment via transaction F-29 and receive error "FS206 Down pmnts with taxes are not permitted when processing with jur.code."
Settings:  1) Alternative Recon account for Special GL posting has The tax category on the GL account = B "Output tax - down payments managed gross."  2) Transaction OBXB specifies tax clearing account for transaction key MVA.  This G/Laccount has same tax category setting (B). My settings work perfectly for Europe since they are not taxed via juridicition codes.
    Thank you in advance!

Check the GL master of the alternative recon account. Ideally there should be no setting in the tax fields as there is no tax calculated on down payment but only on the final amount. Leave the tax fiel blank and do not check mark posting without tax allowed.

  • IPhoto crashes when I edit with Photoshop!

Whenever I edit an iPhoto photo using Photoshop, iPhoto crashes when I try to import it back into iPhoto. This happens whether I export the photo, Photoshop it, and re-import it, or whether I use iPhoto Preferences to select Photoshop as my editor. I can import other photos into iPhoto, just not photos that have been edited with Photoshop. Help would be much appreciated!

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Keyword problems when editing with CS6

In LR 4.2 and 4.3, when I edit with photoshop and use lightroom corrections, LR creates a new file.  I edit it in CS6 and save and close.  Back in LR, the file is there, the proper keywords are highlighted and there, but LR cannot find that file.  In other words, LR does not recognize the photoshop keywords.
I am using Win 7 64.  My catalog has less than 1,000 images.  My master catalog has 25,000 with the same problem.
As I understand it, when you edit in Photoshop with LR corrections, LR creates a new file and PS takes in.  PS sends info to LR when it is done.  If I edit a photo selected with a keyword and I can only see that image, when I get back to LR the screen is grey and no image is found.  I can find the photo in the folder.
My workaround is to delete the keyword and reenter.  In a small database with few keywords, clunky.  In the real world, very difficult.

I have been using lightroom since verison 1 (actually I owned the precursor, I forget the name).
    Step by step
    1.  Select image.  Add unique keyword.  enter.  Keyword is now in the keyword box and highlighted in recent keywords.
    2.  click on keyword to select all images with that keyword.  Highlist the test image.
    2.  Right click the image.select "edit in ..."  "Edit it in CS6..."  Then "Edit a copy with lightroom adjustments"    (edit a copy- same issue)
    3.  CS6 opens and the file selected is open.  Convert to B&W (anything).  Control -s to save.  Control - w to close.
    4.  Goto lightrooom..  New edited image in the folder, but invisible to keyword.  The number of images associated with that keyword gets larger by one.
In my system, the key step is step 2.  If I add a keyword and edit from the folder everything is fine.  If I have selected or filtered by keywords, the edited image does not index for that keyword.
Is this me?  I guess my workaround now would be to edit images from the folder view/
