Versioning for .jar files

Hey,
Is it possible to version my .jar file ?
And if yes, how do you do that ? And also: what command do you have to use to find out the version (on Unix) ?

Btw I have a solution:
Include a Version.txt file in your .jar file and put every info you want in it.
Then create a unix script which contains:
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/java14/bin
if [ -e "Version.txt" ]; then
     rm Version.txt
fi
jar xf $1 Version.txt
cat  Version.txt
echo
rm Version.txtrun the script and it will display the info of your Version.txt file

  • Specifying versions for jar files

    Hai everybody,
    Recently I changed our application to web start enabled, everyting is working fine. Now I would like to use version based update. Is it necessary to place all versioned jar files in same folder or we can place them in different folders. If anybody knows please help me.
    Thanks in advance
    Sateesh D

    you can use the jnlp version based download protocol only by running jnlp servlet or another servlet or jsp script that implements the protocol.
    There is no restrictions on folders on where the versions are located, except that imposed by the servlet you are running.

  • Maximum size for JAR files on Nokia 3120 Classic

    I am trying to download and install a java app for a Nokia 3120 classic, but when installing I get an error message telling me that the file is too big at 5.7mb.
    I can't find the maximum size of .jar files for this phone anywhere.
    Can anyone let me know what this is and whether there is any way to get the app to work.
    Many thanks.
    Alan Watson

    YES THERE IS A WAY!! I only got this information from someone else. Thanks for that person.
    Here are the steps:
    1. Download the jar file you want to install, to your computer. Now open My computer, and on the upper left corner you shall see a menu, click the "Tools" button and then click "Folder options..." A little window will appear. Click the "View" tab. On this window you need to find an option "Hide extentions for known file types" below "Advanced settings". Then unmark or uncheck the box.
    2. Now when you open my computer and go to the folder where you had downloaded the java file, the file name will read "(anyfilename).jar". HERE IS THE TRICK.
    3. Rename the last part of your file. Instead of .jar change it to .jpg so that it reads  "(anyfilename).jpg"
    4. Now copy the renamed file and paste it in your mobile's C: or Memory Card drive.
    5. Once you had pasted, rename the copied file back to what it was. i.e "(anyfilename).jar"
    BASICALLY the phone limits a file with a ".jar" extention, you can fool it by renaming the extention to ".jpg" and then once the file is copied into the phones C:drive you can change the extention back to ".jar" by renaming it.
    Share it. Hope it works for you! God bless...

    Have you seen this recent thread: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=689987&tstart=0
    There is a limit of 72 bytes (not chars!) per line in a manifest. YMMV, but you should be using Ant.

  • Icon for Jar File?

    Is it possible to include an Icon in a Jar file
    that will be displayed for the jar file instead
    of a default Icon give to it by Windows 2000? If
    so, how is it done?
    Thanks

    no it's not possible as the JAR file does not know anything about the operating system. this is windows dependend. if you want a custom icon for one jar file, create a shortcut to the jar and adjust the icon of this shortcut.

  • Classpath for jar files?

    Hi all,
    i am trying to run a standalone java program using JRC through command promt.
    my problem is i am importing few classes from jar files into my java class. but its not getting imported.
    how to resolve it?

    Hi Saravana
    You can use batch file to run your standalone java program.
    The contents of the batch file would be as follows:
    @echo off
    if "%OS%" == "Windows_NT" setlocal
    rem
    rem Sets the CLASSPATH environment variable to include all JAR files
    rem required for the JRC then compiles and jars Java file(s).
    rem
    rem Edit the environment variable BOBJ_JAVA_LIB to point to the
    rem location where you have the JRC jar files.
    rem
    rem Make sure to define any other required libraries in the environment
    rem variable CLASSPATH.
    rem
    rem Make sure you have defined the environment variable JAVA_HOME
    rem
    set BOBJ_JAVA_LIB=c:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\java\lib
    set CURRENT_DIR=%cd%
    echo Using JAVA_HOME: %JAVA_HOME%
    echo Using CURRENT_DIR: %CURRENT_DIR%
    set RUNJAVA="%JAVAHOME%/bin/java"
    set RUNJAVAC="%JAVAHOME%/bin/javac"
    set RUNJAR="%JAVAHOME%/bin/jar"
    set CLASSPATH=%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\ReportViewer.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\ReportPrinter.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalCommon.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalDatabaseConnectors.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalReportingCommon.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalFormulas.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalQueryEngine.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalReportEngine.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\keycodeDecoder.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\MetafileRenderer.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\rpoifs.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\jrcerom.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\jrcadapter.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\rascore.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\rasapp.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\Serialization.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\external\log4j.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\external\icu4j.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\external\Concurrent.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\external\xercesImpl.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\external\xml-apis.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalCharting.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalContentModels.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalExporters.jar;%BOBJ_JAVA_LIB%\CrystalExportingBase.jar;%CURRENT_DIR%;%CLASSPATH%
    %_RUNJAVAC% -classpath "%CLASSPATH%" *.java
    %_RUNJAVA% -classpath "%CLASSPATH%" HelloWorldSwing
    // HelloWorldSwing is the name of your .java file

  • Need some information for jar files upload in Oracle

    Hi,
    I am developing some java stored procedures which requires uploading about 10-15 jar files or may be more, to the oracle database. One way is to use loadjava and oracle stores classes in those jar files as separate java classes. Is there a way that I can put these jar files somewhere in the file systems, configure some oracle parameter, restart the database and still I am able to use them from my java stored procedures. This will be some kind of a dropin folder for jars. Any information on this will be helpfule.
    Thanks

  • Do not want new version for rdl file for each snapshot rendering

    ssrs 2012 sp1 sharepoint mode, sharepoint 2013
    option set for the report - render from snapshot, a schedule set for the snapshots creation
    each snapshot rendering adds new viersion to the rdl file with updated field
    Execution DateTime - not really sure who needs this "feature" but it would be nice to switch this off/fix a bug
    Sergey Vdovin

    Hi Sergey,
    Sorry for my misunderstanding.
    In SharePoint, the generation of a report version is determined by the modifications of the entire SharePoint list item. If any field of the list item is changed , it will create a new version for the list item. For a report RDL file uploaded to a SharePoint
    document library, the report version is not just created based on the modifications to the report content. In your case, once it has generating a new snapshot, it will modify the column Execution DateTime value.
    Besides, once we configure a report to render based on a snapshot, the Execution Datatime field will be available in the library view. However, if we create snapshots manually rather than based on a schedule, this field won’t be updated, hence, the report
    version won’t be added. If we configure the snapshot to be generated based on a schedule, the Execution Datetime will be updated each time the snapshot is generated, thus the report version will be updated. This is actually a by design inconsistent behavior
    between Reporting Services and SharePoint.
    To avoid this behavior,  on Reporting Services side, you need to either disable the snapshot or configure the snapshot not to run based on a schedule. Taking into account that this may be unacceptable for your, there is a possible approach on the SharePoint
    side. In SharePoint, if we want an item to update without creating a new version based on a judgment condition, we can use Visual Studio workflow and with a code to determine when to update list item. Here is some resource about this topic for your refer:

  • Create a custom dock/application icon for .jar files built in eclipse

    I've spent the better part of the afternoon trying to figure out how to apply a custom icon to jar file that I created in eclipse. I am presently using eclipse v3.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.2 and have yet to find a way to change the java coffee cup logo in the document icon for my jar files created in eclipse. Is there some way I can call a specific Apple class in Eclipse to change the dock/application icon of my .jar file?
    I found this link that uses a class that seems to be specific to XCode to change the icon of the .jar file.
    What I mean by change the icon of the jar file, I mean change the icon used in the dock, and also the icon used when the "command+tab" switcher pops up. Presently, I have the black console icon with the text "exec" in the upperleft.
    If anyone has any good links on this topic or even better knows the code I need insert into my program I would be highly greatful.
    cheers

  • Jdeveloper dependency on ANT script for .JAR file for ADF Application

    Hi all,
    We need to create a .jar file for an ADF project consist of Model & viewcontroller. We are able to create jar file with help OjDeploy in my ANT script.
    My query: Ojdeploy uses internally jdeveloper home to complete the task. After going through the generated script, we came to know about below two references:
    1.     oracle.jdeveloper.ant.library = ${jdeveloperHome}\\ jdeveloper\\jdev\\/lib/ant-jdeveloper.jar
    2.     oracle.jdeveloper.ojdeploy.path = ${jdeveloperHome}\\jdeveloper\\jdev\\bin\\ojdeploy.exe
    Is there any way to remove above dependencies so that we can create .jar file without installing Jdeveloper on a machine ?
    regards,
    Mohit

    ojdeploy requires a JDeveloper installation.
    Without going into the debate as to whether this is "good" or not, that's the way it works, I personally don't have a problem with installing JDeveloper on a build box (after all, you do have to install other software on the build box, too).
    If you don't want to install JDeveloper, you can hand-roll your own ANT scripts which is good for racking up the billable hours, but not so good at maintainability.

    Thanks.

    The following will display each file in the zip/jar file to the screen.
    ZipInputStream zin = new ZipInputStream( new FileInputStream( "z:\\myzip.zip" ) );
    ZipEntry entry;
    while( (entry = zin.getNextEntry() ) != null ) {
         System.out.println( "Entry: " + entry.toString() );
         byte[] buf = new byte[ (int)entry.getSize() ];
         zin.read( buf, 0, (int)entry.getSize() );
         System.out.write( buf, 0, (int)entry.getSize() );
    Jar* extends Zip*.
