Versions with unavailable original images cannot be opened, saved or printed?

It all began when my computer crashed and I had to reset it. I can see all the pictures I had saved on Aperture which I had saved on my WD passport but they  can not be opened, saved or printed. My question is how can I open my picture with out the original image even though I can see it?
Thank you

First, make sure you are not in Quick Preview mode.
Second, every time Aperture crashes, you should (imho) run "Repair Database".  I have _never_ heard of problems caused by running "Repair Database".
As with all digital data, you should never change anything without having at least one full, verified back-up.
Check the first, do the second anyway, and let us know where that leaves you.

  • Versions with unavailable original files cannot be exported.

I have imported some photos into Aperture and worked on them, exported some etc. but when I disconnected the memory card I realized I had the yellow triangle and I was not able to export the photos and had this message: Versions with unavailable original files cannot be exported.
When I re-connected the memory card the the yellow triangle disappeared and I was able to work with the images.
How can I get rid of the triangle without having to connect the memory card?
"Locate referenced files" command didn't work.
Please speak slowly as I am not super technical! :-)

In the Import dialogue, you apparently have selected to store originals in their current location -- not a good plan when they are on a memory card.  Select where you want them in the future.
With this particular card mounted, you should be able to take the originals into the Aperture Library, and if desired, later move them to be referenced.

  • Versions with unavailable original files

"Versions with unavailable original files cannot be shared."
But I store all originals in the Aperture file. All in one place.
I would like to make a smart album that would show me which images are lacking originals but don't see the right criteria to check- anyone have ideas?
(If it matters? All previews are 'don't limit' and '12'. Why? Because I need to drag images from Preview to FileMaker; when you drag from aperture you drag previews, not originals, and I need to drag the full size image).

We are on FM Pro Advanced v13. I use Advanced because I need the additional scripting utilities and the custom menus. I know about Media Browser but never thought of using it. Maybe I should describe the project.
I'm preparing a reference book on plant material for zones 10+ (Tropicals), and in the course of this work over the past few years have been collecting photographs (with the iPhone more and more, as it turns out). The photo collection is nowhere near complete; I am adding perhaps 50 images a week and will be doing so for another year or so– have to catch the plants flowering.
The editorial portion of the research is managed in Scrivener (that's where I write my weekly column so I'm used to it). FMP isnt really suitable as a text editor, although I do use it in my practice for memos and proposal. And believe it or not, I track citations in TextEdit.
Back to FMP: as the research progresses we have mocked up pages, thinking how they might look. I also use the database in my normal practice as a landscape architect. Both of these uses require photos, but the photos are in Aperture.
The workflow in Aperture involved assigning stars to images and uploading them to Flickr for my co-author to review.
To get the images over to FMP, I just drag them from Aperture to FMP container fields. And THAT is why I have the previews so big.
This is very far from ideal mostly because there is no linked relationship. In the end, I always imagined I would delte all photos from FMP and start over, dragging images to the appropriate record. This actually makes some sense because sometimes there are a dozen photos of each plant but only 6 container fields in each record. I could add more but realistically getting a dozen into print will be a miracle. More, even less so.
That's my story and suggestions are very welcome. It's clunky as ****.

  • Versions with unavailable master files cannot be exported.

Anybody a good idea how to sorting this out?
All the files are in pictures folder, i see the preview in A3. but I have the red line across the symbol in R lower corner on all the pictures.
I have tried the 3 different steps to try fix A3.
The full error message i get if I try to export or do anything with my pictures.
"Versions with unavailable master files cannot be exported.
The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."
I have recently exchanged HD and upgraded to Snow Leopard.
    HELP...

Hi,  I cannot export some of my photos either as i get a message saying they are offline & i must reconnect them.
So i have followed your instructions however the file status 'missing' option draws a blank.. if i change the rule to 'offline' i do seem to get all the files that I am currently unable to export.
then i do your last instruction:
Run "File→Locate Referenced File". Reconnect all.
I can now see the located files in the top window box but when i click 'done' it doesn't do anything & the options for reconnect all are blank.. see image..
Is there anything else i can do?

Occasionally,  some of the image borders turn dark grey (medium grey is the default) and then random other  images cannot be opened with a double click.  They only open when selected using the arrows on the keyboard.  They also cannot be moved to collections.  Anyone have a solution for this?

When you say  "could not be opened"- what are you referring to?  A double click of the mouse should view the clicked image in Loupe view- the same as pressing [E] on the keyboard for an enlarged view. (And a second double-click will take you back to library grid view.)
To "open" an image in the Development module requires you to select the image then press [D] or click on the [Develop] button.
When you say "could not be ...moved" -what are you referring to?  Are you trying to move an image file from its place in a folder to another folder? Are you just wanting it in a collection? When you drag an image to a collection you are only placing a link to the image in the collection- not actually moving any file. The image will stay exactly where it is in its original folder and will remain as a thumbnail preview in the Library Grid view.
Are you having any "mouse" problems that may be changing its actions in LR ?
Do you see an exclamation mark on any image borders ?
Let's keep working on this. I am curious to see you find an answer.

  • "Unavailable master images cannot be exported. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."

I have imported my iPhoto library onto Aperture, and then deleted the iPhoto library so not to have any duplicates. Now, the images on Aperture are pixelated and when I try to export them the following message appears: "Unavailable master images cannot be exported. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."  What does this mean? How can I get my photos "online" so that I can see them as they used to be?

How did you import your iPhoto Library? I assume, you used "File > Import > iPhoto LIbrary", but how did you set the "Store Files" pop-up menu?
If you chose to "Store Files in their current location", then you did not actually import the master image files into Aperture, but referenced them inside the iPhoto Library. In that case, you just deleted all your images, when you deleted the iPhoto Library. And if you did that, and your iPhoto Library is still sitting in the Trash, put it back; then your Aperture Library should work again. Or restore the iPhoto Library from your most recent backup and put it into the exactly same location where it used to be.
If you used a different "Store Files" setting, please explain where you have chosen to store the master image files. This will help to track down your images.
After restoring your master image files you may need to reconnect them to the versions. Post back, if you need help with that.

  • "Unavailable Master Images Cannot be Relocated." error; Reconnect no help.

Seeking help with strange behavior in Aperture that elicited a shrug from the Genius Bar at the local Apple store. They suggested I post a question in this forum.
I'm using referenced files in Aperture. When trying to move some of them to a different location on the same drive, before I even get the dialog to select a location, I get the following message:
"Unavailable Master Images Cannot be Relocated. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.".
So, as instructed, I go through the steps to reconnect the images. At least I think I do since Aperture doesn't complain. I can also select "Show in Finder" and the image is found from within Aperture without incident. In other words, the image is "found". Also, the image is not tagged as "offline".
After all of this, I get the same error: "Unavailable Master Images Cannot be Relocated. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.".
So, I am a bit lost as to what to do since Aperture provides no further instructions other than to reconnect the images. I also get the same error when I try to consolidate the master into the Aperture DB.
I hope someone has encountered this situation or similar situation before and can provide a remedy. I want to avoid reimporting the images since I will lose all keywords, and adjustments. Painful.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Not sure if we're facing the same issue but here's what I did, avoiding the need to redo all the adjustments and add keywords again. Maybe your situation can be fixed in the same way?
I have all my masters stored outside Aperture Library in separate folders on my hard drive. I just don't trust having all the originals inside Aperture. Maybe it makes life more difficult, I don't know. Then I import the folder to an Aperture Project to work on the photos. Maybe 1 in 20 is a 5 star keeper.
I ran out of HD space on my MBP (Nikon D200 RAW files are 15 meg each) so I copied the folders on the HD to a backup HD and then deleted the original folders and their contents on the main HD.
Now I want to take the 5 star pictures and make a print or upload a photo. In Aperture the referenced file is still there but I can't export or make any adjustments because "the selected Master image is either offline or not found."
So I go to "File/Manage Referenced Files" and the File Path tells me what I have to create. It tells me the volume and path "[user]/Pictures/8-9-08 RS Shag Rock" for example, and it's in Red. So I create a new folder on the HD with that exact name. Then I go to the Back up HD, find the 8-9-08 RS Shag Rock folder, find the photo I want and drag it back into the new folder on the HD. The File Path turns black and we're back in business.
Next time after the BU, I'll leave the folders on the main HD and just delete the contents and save a step when I need to bring some back. Obviously if you have a lot of files to move, it would just be simpler to copy the whole BU HD folder, and delete the pics on the Main HD you don't need for now.\
    Hope that helps.

  • The project was saved in a newer version of Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version

I edited a project on CC on one computer and saved it on my external. My friend took the same project to edit it on her computer under her own name and licence. Both of us recently upgraded to CC. But the same project that worked a few hours back on Premiere Pro CC, does not work now also on Premiere Pro CC and I received a message saying: The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." Can you please help us.?

Reason: Your title was too long.

    Hi alexxxkid,
You should be able to import the xml into an earlier version.
Backward compatibility has never been there with Premiere and it is always recommended not to update in the middle of a project.
As far as the crash is concerned, please tell me more about it so that i can help you to the best of my knowledge.
    Thanks,

  • "The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." - Except it wasn't!

Last night I saved a project I've been working on for a couple of days. It's been fine all along. Today, when I went to open it, it's no longer listed in the recently opened files on startup and i get this message:
"The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version."
Except it wasn't! I use Premiere CC and it's been fine all along. I can no longer open it at all...
    Any thoughts? Very frustrating!

One more item.   In using PP CC2014 for the first time with this project, I have run into multiple issues making this project very frustrating.  When adding a sequence to the master sequence, I have to render the audio each time in order to see all of the audio waves. You have to keep doing this over and over, even though you've already rendered a sequence already.
I am getting error messages when rendering the project saying there are issues compiling the movie.  Getting same type error message if I try to export.  I narrowed it down to two sequences keeping the program from rendering without the error messages.  They each had a tiff file.  I deleted them and they rendered.  Not sure what this issue was with these particular files since I have other tiff files in the project.  Once the rendering of all sequences was done, all the individual sequences were closed and the master was the only one open.  I didn't close them.  So now to edit any of the sequences I have to go back and open them.
The only thing this project has in it are titles created in PP, a few graphics, mostly tiff tiles and some jpeg and the dissolve effect.  That's it.  Seems like they should have done more with this version before putting it out there.  Maybe that's why there are two separate applications for PP?  Who knows.  I will be uninstalling PP CC2014 when this project is complete.

  • Consolidation error: Unavailable master images cannot be consolidated

I'm trying to consolidate all of my referenced images into a managed library.
I did a global search for all referenced files, selected all, then clicked on 'Consolidate Masters'. This worked for all but 200 of my 4K images. I got the following error message at the beginning of consolidation:
"Unavailable master images cannot be consolidated. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again".
The problem is that each of my 200 remaining referenced images is, in fact online. Aperture knows exactly where it is. I've tried to 'reconnect' using Manage Referenced Files but that dialog confirms that Aperture knows where the file is and no 'reconnection' is possible because nothing is 'de-connected'.
While this is frustrating, the truly confusing thing is that I can simply run the Consolidate Masters command again and some more of the remaining images are consolidated. I'm now down to about 175 but it has taken about 5 iterations.
Does anyone have any idea what Aperture is trying to tell me or what I can do about it?
    Thanks and take care,
    Jeff

Just to add more to my confusion, I did another global search to get a count on my referenced and master images. I would expect that any image is either referenced or managed. If so, the total of referenced images plus managed should equal the total number of images. Same with offline and online.
Sadly, that's not the case for me.
In keeping with my above post, I was down to 144 Referenced files with 3,373 managed images. This should be a total of 3,517 total images. Unfortunately, when I remove all filters, I have 3,899 images in the library. I'm not sure where the other 382 images are.
I selected all referenced images and ran consolidate. I again had the 'reconnect' message. After running, there were now only 131 referenced images remaining. I assumed that I had consolidated 13 images (144 - 131) and that I would then have 13 more managed images. Unfortunately, I still had only 3,373 managed images, the same as before.
I suspect there is something fundamental about Aperture that I'm misunderstanding. Any ideas what it would be?
    Thanks and take care,
    Jeff

  • Why is saturation reduced in my HDR results when comparing with the original images?

Yesterday I took several sets of RAW images with Panasonic LX3 to perform HDR.
However, the HDR results look less colorful than the original images, they became dreamy, blurry and unrealistic.
Is it because every set only has 3 images with different exposures?

You would probably get a better answer if you posted this in the Photoshop forum. This forum is for Lightroom, which is a quite different animal.

  • HT5409 clips on sony ax2000 mount as quicktime with avchd file that cannot be opened - Help!

I have tried iskysoft medie converter and aiseesoft AVCHD converter for Mac -- they cannot read the AVCHD file. I cannot get either program to load the file. I have conntected the camera to the mac with USB and dowloaded the file, but then it cannot be opened in ANY program. Smaller files have opened in Quicktime, but these have many multiple clips. Anyone know how to convert these?

Yes, you have missed a few things... as mentioned, what camera, what 'options', such as 24p, 60i, whatever... how you have output the results, etc...
I personally can not 'play' AVCHD on my aging laptop, my 'workhorse'. I always have to resize down to something less than 1080x1920 to 'play' smoothly on it.
Also, H.264, has a number of 'options', such as maximum bit rate, which does impact the visual quality on playback... anything less than 20-30 Mbits/sec is too low... (which of course leads into whether your machine can play it or not...). In addition, where you store your output also impacts playability, USB driver are notoriously slow, and often a clip will play off the main harddrive, but hiccups off of a USB...
So, yeah, you have missed a few items, and probably more...

  • Iphoto backup, with regards original images.

OK, background. I have been searching on here but maybe not using the correct search terms.
I upgraded from an eMac with OSX 10.4 to a shiny new iMac (eMac had 38GB HD so images were stored on external drives). I stopped using iPhoto in 2006. In 2006 (or there abouts) I started to manage my images through folders and a strict back up across three hard drives and DVD including one hard drive kept off site (backup up once a month on the off site drive). I also started to use Spider Oak (online backup) last month when I realised there was a hole in my plan.
What has thrown me is the size of the iPhoto library when I imported the 120GB of folder images. The iPhoto Library is 160GB, no problem for my external hard drives to back up but my online storage will get a hit as I pay for the privilege, under the limit at the moment but 200GB is my plan before I have to buy another load. I have paid for Spideroak for a year so moving is not an option at the moment and I do like the plan.
The other possible issue or non issue is that (as far as I am aware) spideroak will check file names to stop duplication, so unless the names are altered on import, I should be able to tell it to look at the iPhoto library but still have to upload the extra 40GB or so (on 60mbit upload but time is realy used in prep before sending). If it needs to be redone then I want it done right, last upload of 120gb took a five days (computer only running in the day not 24/7).
So. Am I safe using Spideroak (or any other online) to look at the iPhoto "Master" folder, that is where the originel images seem to reside?
I am not worried if I lose iPhoto functionality, its the original un altered images I am concerned with or do I need to reconsider?
Or keep the existing backup folders option and use iphoto to look at those folders and not backup iPhoto? (I am using another HD to use for time machine)
This is driving me nuts, I feel a simple safe solution is there but not seeing it, if it were just on hard drive then I would be OK.

There is no suitable online back up for an iPhoto Library. I would also suggest that you bear in mind how long it would take to download 160 gigs of data - and bear in mind that all these online services manage their bandwidth - and that means they throttle downloads. We've seen reports on here from folks who restore took days... You'e seeing what the upload takes, so it's a real consideration.
I would be very, very wary of setting any app to look into the Library package and back up the masters. FIne as long as copy is all it does, but what is all that "preparing"? And remember your camera can easily produce multiple files with the same filename.
Personally, I use flickr for just the job you refer to.
Or keep the existing backup folders option and use iphoto to look at those folders and not backup iPhoto? (I am using another HD to use for time machine)
That's called running a Referenced Library. TL, DR: Don't.

  • "The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." How can I keep the projects interchangeable?

I recently updated my Premiere Pro CC at home to 2014.1 and now can't open my projects at school where they are using Premiere Pro CC 2014. (which was up to date last week) Since I don't know how long it will take for them to update all of the computers, (based on past experience) How can I make my project compatible between these 2014 versions?
I've tried to export the project as a Final Cut XML file, but didn't have luck with that.

    Hi Benjamino5,
There is no backward compatibility in Premiere Pro. It's not ever been a feature. The only way backward is by using XML but it sounds like you had problems with that. Please let us know your specific issue here: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug
I was speaking about forward compatibility. A number of people have had problems updating the project file with this version. While it should not cause too many issues, it is a general rule of thumb to never update your project file to a new version part way through a project.
It's rather unfortunate that this formerly hardcore stance (to not update project files until done) has been forgotten or is simply not known to many editors, both new and old. Updating a project file should never be done unless absolutely necessary. As a former instructor, I would make sure that all my students were aware of this potential project killing issue.
Backward compatibility is a long standing feature request. Make that in the same place as the bug report. Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • This project was saved on a newer version of premier pro and cannot be opened in this version

I have tried to update but to no avail. Uninstalled and reinstalled and still not opening my project. My current version is 8.0.0 (169 Build) My MBP is 8.2.09 (65Build) How do I update the PP CC 2014 on my iMac to match my MBP.
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatful.

    Hi Richard,
Thanks for your reply but the 'updates' section was grayed out and unclickable. I contacted customer support who took control of my machine and did some magic I hope. At the moment there is a full CC update going on. Not the quickest thing in the world but hopefully I'll only have to do it once and the problem should be resolved.
