Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.
This is coming from someone that never ever used a Windows machine to make music! Life is good still!

  • Logic Studio (upgraded from express 7.2) on a laptop and tower??

Hi. I had Logic Express 7.2 and bought and installed the upgrade to Logic Studio on my MacPro Tower.
I am buying a MacBook Pro and would like to install Logic Studio on that, as well. I understand that the license for Logic Studio allows one tower and one laptop. Does that still apply in my case for the upgrade to Logic Studio? i.e., will I have to first install logic express 7.2 on the laptop then "upgrade" to Studio, or can i just install Studio on the macbook pro and run it on both machines? Hope that all made sense!!
    Thanks,
    Rob

You don't have to install Logic Express on your MacbookPro. Simply install Logic Studio. After you type your Logic Studio upgrade serial number, Logic will ask you for your original Logic Express serial number

  • Please help~~ about secondhand logic studio upgrade from express

i bought a logic studio 8 from ebay, its upgrade from logic express 7. the seller send me full package of logic studio 8 upgrade and one license label of the logic express 7 which stick on the license sheet of the logic studio 8. i did not get the full package of the logic express 7 but only get one license label of logic express 7. can i use this package of logic studio upgrade in my studio ?
the seller sell all the s/n for me include the license of express 7, but i only get the license label of express 7, is it enough to own the license of this logic studio ?

I'm afraid you may have to take this up with the seller, as it seems he didn't deliver what was listed for the bid. Because we are now on Logic 9, I'm unsure as to the effectiveness of updating past iterations of Logic. If all else fails, contact Ebay and/or Apple support.

  • Need to make space in my Hard drive to install Logic Studio Upgrade

    ok. Here's my problem:
I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro. That means 100Gb of storage.
I've been using it for professional audio recording since then with Logic Pro (6 or 7 I think) and I made necessary upgrades when they were available in both Mac book and Logic. So, now my Mac has 2.16 GHz processor, 2GB memory RAM and is running Mac OS X 10.6.3
When it comes to Logic, I am in Logic 8, trying to make the last upgrade of Logic Studio but looks like there's no more space available on my laptop. At this point, I moved any other data that I don't need. My Hard drive is almost full of a data that most of it supposedly needs to be replaced or skipped. I'm talking about additional content of audio coming on Jam Pack, etc... The installation program allow me to put some of the data in other hard drives (about 22.68 GB) but still is not enough.
Is there any way to solve this? May be uninstalling programs and data that later will be installed again with my upgrade? I don't want to make a mess before asking.
Probably is time to get a new computer. If this is the only option please somebody tell me! but if is not, I refuse to spend the money. My laptop is working fine...
    Thank you
    Fran

Well, first i would decide what you need the computer for. If you use iPhoto and iTunes, maybe moving the libraries to external HD may free up a significant amount of HD space.
Also, look for apps you don't need anymore, look for ancient data that can be zipped&archived away. That's a lot of work, but is worth the time, because you get to know what really is on your HD. I have so many small apps&tools lying around on my HD clogging space, but in fact i only used them once or twice in a lifetime, so better delete them.
BTW: Make sure you have enough space on your HD not only to install Logic studio but have some extra GB's for the OS to shuffle data around. No OS likes a full HD.
My strong suggestion would to give your Macbook to a trustworthy Mac store where they install a bigger HD and copy everything over to the new one.

  • Final Cut Studio & Logic Studio upgrade issue

I am mainly audio based but have been working on projects more recently with Final Cut Studio 2 to deal with the video. As I use both Logic Studio 8 and Soundtrack Pro 2 a lot, and Final Cut Pro less, I plumped for the upgrade to Logic Studio which also contains STP 3 and Compressor 3.5 which seemed the right thing to do.
However the install info and dvd doesn't want you to install STP 3 or Compressor 3.5 if you have Final Cut Studio 2 as they "contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Personally I didn't want to run to the expense of upgrading Final Cut as I don't use Motion, Colour or Cinema Tools and although I am working heavily in DVD Studio Pro they haven't done anything to upgrade that application (boo!)
So what's the deal? Am I unable to upgrade ST Pro to version 3 and also unable to benefit from the upgraded Compressor even though I've actually paid for an upgrade that promised me these options, and no mention until I'd opened the package that there would be any incompatibility issues with Final Cut Studio 2!
Anyone know what these 'incompatible components' are?
Sounds like sharp practice and bad product integration to me...

I just spoke with someone in Apple Reseller Channel Sales and he told me that what is shipping now is strictly the Universal version. So, if you order a Final Cut Studio Upgrade from FCP HD ($699 retail, IIRC), you will receive the FCS Universal version in the big box with all the docs.

  • SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR LOGIC STUDIO-upgrade from LOGIC PRO 7

I have been using LOGIC PRO 7 on my G5 1.8ghz Power PC G5 with 768 MB DDR SDRAM with no problems. I'd LOVE to upgrade to the new 8. I notice it said minimum req is 1.25ghz and 1gig of ram.
Will I be able to run this on my current system for basic recording, etc. Do I REALLY need the 1.25 and 1 gig of ram? If i'm doing no more than 8 tracks live at a time-live instruments?

Hi Mikey, First off they mean a G4 1.25 or faster. Your G5 1.8 should be fine. Second, the 768MB of RAM will be an issue. Fortunately RAM for your machine isn't that expensive. If I were you I'd load up with as much as you can. It will help you in all aspects of your computing, not just Logic. Check out the link below for some options.

  • Just upgraded to Logic studio from Logic Pro 7 Some Tips

    Hi All
Just sharing some of my tips.
Tip1: If you have an "academic" version, it could be the "retail" version. I purchased the academic version 4 years ago. To my surprise, I discovered it's the full version, the apple store just put an academic sticker on the shrink wrap. The "obvious" signs: XSKey has retail on it. When loading there's no academic version on the title. The box has a barcode sticker that says retail.
Tip 2: When upgrading to Logic Studio. The install discs are full installs. What did this mean to me. Well I have a G5 iMac and intel MacBook. Logic Pro 7.2 was the first "universal version". One would assume you would have to upgrade to 7.2 (which has been discontinued) for the MacBook, then upgrade to Studio. Not the case. All you need is the XSKey plugged into the MacBook and install the Logic Studio (upgrade). Type in the serial code and your away. All my MacBook had installed was Leopard 10.5.
Hopefully these tips help people some people out.

    Peace. . . .

  • Logic Studio install - Sound Effects option disabled

When I go to install Logic Studio, in the list of things to install the selections "Sound Effects" and "Music Beds" are greyed out and uncheckable. If I install everything I can select, it skips the discs Audio Content 1 and 2. Is there a way to get at least the Sound Effects option enabled?
(This is for Logic Studio upgrade w/ Logic Pro 9, upgrading from Logic Express 8)

So I understand correctly that you are not involved in creating music in any way? Then Logic is NOT what you are looking for. It is mainly aimed at either recording and/or composing original music, and not as a ready to select library sort of thing.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you what you should get, but maybe one of the pro guys can help you out. You'll probably find some users here who actually make the sort of content you want to use.
Logic Pro is the main program in the Logic Studio set.
    regards, Erik.

  • Updating logic studio 8 - help needed!

Can anyone cleverer than me help me with a problem?
I bought a second hand mac book pro and it had a copy of logic pro on it that when you opened it asked for the serial number. I had logic plat 6 on my previous mac and I bought the update to studio pro 8, installed it with the xs key in and it all seemed to work fine until i did a software update and tried to launch it again. It just came up asking for the serial no as before which the upgrade version doesn't have on the packaging. I then have to reinstall which again works until i try to update.
    I have tried:
uninstalling logic using appzapper before reinstalling.
entering the serial no that is shown when the app is opening up.
running update with the xs key in.
none of these have worked and it's starting to get annoying. I think it must be to do with the version that was on the machine when i got it but using appzapper i have no idea how to get rid of it.
Any help on this would be hugely appreciated.
    thanks in advance.

It just came up asking for the serial no as before which the upgrade version doesn't have on the packaging.
You've confused me with this. Are you saying that your Logic Studio Upgrade package doesn't have a serial number? Because it should. Inside the box are several thin documents, one of which is called 'Installing Your Software.' You'll find your serial number on that.
It's very possible that if you used App Zapper to uninstall the previous LP8 it didn't find the folder that contains the Serial #, and therefore Logic is still running on your friends number. (I just opened LP8 in App Zapper and it didn't find that folder). Go to Your User/Library/Preferences/Logic, and dump the files within that folder. There are Logic preference files in the Preferences folder, but you want to dump the ones *inside the Logic folder within the Preferences folder*.
You shouldn't have to reinstall Logic to get it to be under your license. Just dump the files mentioned above, start Logic, put in the Serial Number in your package, and then it will be running on yours. You might need the XS key in for that.
Once it's all squared away, and it's running from your serial number, you should be able to update Logic without the XS Key and without having to put in your Serial Number each time.
    Good Luck!

  • Installing Logic 9 UPGRADE Help

    Hi,
I've been using logic pro 8 since it came out, (got it part of logic studio) and i just bought the logic studio upgrade today so i can run logic 9, aswell as mainstage etc.
Ever since i put snow leopard on my mac i've had quite a few crashes with logic, when it crashes it gives me the report that it's due to my 'camelPhat plugin' but sometimes it doesn't say it is that.
The guy in the apple shop said i would be best to totally uninstall logic studio 8, then reinstall it, then install my logic studio upgrade, then reinstall my plugins e.g soft synths etc
He said that logic was probably crashing due to some things not being built for snow leopard, like my plugins.
I was just wondering what anyone thought of this? Is it worth while, am i likely to encounter any problems or would i be best just leaving it as it is and installing my logic studio upgrade over the top as it already is?
Thanks for any help or guidance, really appreciated.
    Tom

installed logic 9 upgrade next to LP 8 last week. Running on an imac intel 20 inch from 2008.
It's all working like a breeze. Worked on some pretty heavy projects. No crashes or any other problems.
I really really like Logic 9. Flex time and Bounce in place all already worth the update alone, although i think 200 euro's is a bit too expensive, compared to the price of the normal package (i think 400 or 500 euros)
Anyhow, i love this stuff. Soo much more intuitive and quick than Cubase, which I've used for years actually (and which is also a very very good program, but logic just beats it for me)

  • Different versions of logic studio?

Hi people! It's my first time posting here.
I have a question to ask. You see, I bought the logic express just before the logic pro standalone version was released and I feel like I had been sucker punched hard in the guts. I'm looking to upgrade my logic express from the prev apple offerings of upgrading to logic studio. I've looked at eBay and amazon for the upgradable logic studio but I'm seeing logic studio v2.0 and logic studio
    http://www.amazon.com/Logic-Studio-Upgrade-Express-Version/dp/B002IT1QFE/ref=sr_ 1_4?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1343278880&sr=1-4&keywords=Logic+studio

My question is which is the latest version offered before the standalone logic pro was announced? Or is there even such thing as an apple logic studio 2? I've compared the specs and both seemed to be offering the same specs and etc.
Anyone has got any other idea for upgrading logic express to the latest studio?
    Thanks !

    Anyone?

  • Logic Studio value per pound

I just received my Logic Studio upgrade and am shocked. The box weighs nearly as much as my MacPro. Okay, so I exaggerate a little. But it does weigh 13.6 pounds. In this day when programs costing hundreds of dollars come with tiny pamphlets of literature (like Logic Express did), I'm stunned to receive 13 pounds of literature. This is easily the highest pound-per-dollar value of any software I own. I may not even need the (as yet unavailable) Apple Training Series book, which was indispensable for Logic Express.

    Hi,
Thanks for the input. Another point is, as I only got my Mac Pro within the past month, money wise I'm a bit maxed out! I completley understand and agree with your points about having to re-learn everything again. But, in terms of what I will be getting out of the update, would you say its vital that I get this update ASAP? Or, would I survive with holding out until I have some more money. I mean, at the end of the day, I have been more than surviving up until now. For my situation, how much do you think the updates would benefit me? Also, please comment on the additional apps which come with Logic Studio - MainStage and Soundtrack 2. I don't do much in terms of live performance, not which requires the use of a laptop anyway. However, having such an app may spur me to get involved in this type of thing, which can only do you good. and as for Soundtrack 2, what benefits does it have over Logic 8? As you can import Movies into Logic, I dont quite see what advantage it would have other than maybe a few extra effects or something along those lines? (I am interested in the field of soundtracks and Film Score Composition).
Any one else in a similar situation to me and has gone through with the upgrade? What do you think?
    Thanks again,
    Steve
