Vertex question

We are currently using Vertex running on the iSeries in registration mode with our ECC 6.0 system.  Vertex has stated that they do not officailly have a supported release to run on V5R4 or any ECC release although we appear to be running OK.  In recent conversations with Vertex, they also have no schedule for when they will support V6R1.  As such, we are not happy with the support and maintenance of the product for the iseries platform.  We are questioning whether we could run Vertex on Windows/SQL server and still have this work with our iSeries SAP system.  I would like to know if there are any other iseries/SAP customers that are using Vertex on the Windows platform working with their iseries SAP system?  Also do any other iseries SAP customers use a different tax package beside Vertex for their SAP system?
Best regards,
Russ Cook

Hi Russ,
first of all, I think, it is really bad, that Vertex runs this "strategy" ;-(((
But, still, it will run on V6R1 - but I understand, that you want to come back to a supported landscape ...
But:
You can run such a product - as it JUST uses RFC to connect to SAP on ANY server on ANY OS in your landscape, that is supported by Vertex.
In Startup Mode it would be a hazle, but in regiostration mode, it can be run on any OS as it runs at the moment.
On the OS e.g. Windows, you have to start the most likely batch file, that registers to SAP on iSeries as it does locally right now (This took me 2-3 years as well to understand, that this local connect is the exception for RFC, as this protocol IS BUILT for cross-server-communication!) ... and then it works as you are used to )))
As they seem no longer to support OS/400, they should give you the windows license for free as well in my eyes ...

  • Pegatron IPMTB-TK motherboard version 1.04 and BIOS question?

    Hi,
    I bought a refurbished HP Pavilion Elite m9650f, Win 7 on 04-21-2010
and it too has suffered from the crashes, freezes and multiple BSOD
that many people have been complaining about.  I have the Pegatron
    IPMTB-TK TRUCKEE version 1.04 motherboard.
    HP calls it TRUCKEE-UL8E.
Am I looking to replace it with version 1.04 E01 or version 1.05E?
(With much reading on the web about my m9650f problems,
I finally have it maybe 90% stable after replacing the hard drive,
upgrading to BIOS ver 5.29 and replacing all the RAM.)
I know there is a class action suit including the m9650f pending.
    http://www.hpelitedesktopsettlement.com/
Will I be able to request a repair for my HP computer?
When will HP let people request a repair?
Also, I currently have BIOS ver. 5.29 and notice that there is a ver. 6.10
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-88852-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
BIOS ver 6.10 improves system support for Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition processors which is what ver 5.29 says it does.
BIOS ver 6.10 also installs HP Vision Diagnostic tool which I don't know anything about.
I don't plan on installing an Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition processor.
Should I upgrade to BIOS ver 6.10 or just leave well enough alone?
    Thank you for your time.
    This question was solved.

    Hi Dashby,
My motherboard is 1.04E01 and it has been very stable.   I have not heard or seen anyone with 1.05.
You can put PCI cards other than x16 in the PCI-E x16 slot such as x1 or x4 cards.
Typically what happens if another video were to be install in the second PCI-E x16 is the total 16 lanes of bandwidth would be split between the two slots.  You can't run SLI or CrossFire on the truckee motherboard so in my opinion a second video card is a waste.  Just use a BIG video card if needed.
You can use PC Wizard and look under Mainboard PCI Express to gain information about the PCI-E slots and the speed that they are running when a card is installed.
The Asus U3S6 expansion card is an interesting piece of technology. hmmmm   I wonder if the bios would support a SATA 3 boot device?

  • MSI Big Bang Marshal - Questions

    Hello all
I am new here and I have been doing research on components for a new computer I am making a shopping list for. I have a few questions I have not been able to find any information online. Here goes
    1. Anything specific I should know about the motherboard other then whats in the specs? Problems, quirks, etc?
    2. Does the motherboard only support 2x Dual Video cards like 2x Nvidia GTX 590 or can I use 4x Nvidia GTX 480s?
    3. P67 motherboards with the nf200 on them support 24 pci-e lanes. if I use:
    PCI_E1 - 8x
    PCI_E3 - 8x
    PCI_E5 - 8x
    PCI_E7 - 8x
    Makes up 24
    But there are still:
    PCI_E2 - 1x
    PCI_E4 - 1x
    PCI_E6 - 1x
    PCI_E8 - 1x
Left. Does that mean there are no lanes left and I coudnt even fill anything in the other 4 slots like PCI-E Sound, etc?
    4. If you do Dual, Tri, Quad-SLI and have a PhysX card, how many PCI-E lanes will your PhysX card consume? Is it set by the NVIDIA control panel, the number of lanes of the chipset divided by the mount of video cards or by the card itself?
    5. When people say Dual, Tri, Quad-SLI +PhysX, does it mean (Dual -1(PhysX), Tri -1(PhysX), Quad -1(PhysX) or does it mean (Dual +1, Tri +1, Quad +1)?
    6. I know Scalability of increasing arrays of video cards is pretty poor, but could I do Quad SLI +PhysX using the MSI Big Bang Marshal?
    7. Which is most advantageous, Tri SLI +PhysX, Quad SLI, Quad SLI +PhysX?
    8. Sorry, probably not related, but I wanted to do Raid with SSD's for very fast reads and writes yet have redundancy. I wanted to get some OCZ Vertex 3s and I was reading about how Raid 5 was interesting but apparently Raid 5 increases the degredation of SSD? Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions on best raid configurations?
Thank you for all of your help

By my count, that makes 32 lanes. If not done so, a lot of pre preparation information can be gathered at the MSI Global Website. All the basic & more detailed information can be found there. The downloadable pdf manual is usually much more comprehensive than the manual that comes with the board as well, & can probably answer a lot of your questions. I don't believe the board can do Quad GTX 480 SLI.

  • Questions on the LRS network model.

On page 6-26 of the "Oracle Spatial Topology and Network Data Models" documentation, the example shows that measures are recorded in the 'roads' table (i.e. the one with the geometry of the feature).
    1. Why in this example is 'null' used for Node 5 ('...automatically calculated and filled...') but not the others?
    2. Why in this example is measure even necessary? There is no link to the underlying route from this table (i.e. measures should only be recorded in the context of a given route).
    3. It seems like this measure is merely the offset from the starting vertex (not true LRS); do we have the wrong interpretation?
On Page 6-30, the example shows that measures are recorded for each Node and each Link. We had envisioned nodes and links being separate from the route they play a role upon. For example, if the same node was part of two distinct routes, does this mean storing two rows in "road_nodes"? But they're the exact same location and the same node in our network. The same question applies to the 'road_links' table. If the answer is 'duplicate the rows' in nodes and links (once per route), why doesn't 10g Spatial record 'measure' in the "road_paths" table? Note that, on page 6-31, it says that it is '...for possible future use...'...
This example also implies the rows in the roads table are replicated as the (m)easure of the geometry column would change based on the route involved? If this is not the case why store the measure in the geometry column at all?

    Hi,
My name is Gary Wong, and the original poster was asking these questions on my behalf. I'd like to continue the thread below in-line....
A: This is a basic LRS concept. You can have some NULL
measure values, and LRS can compute the actual measure
corresponding to a NULL value. This has nothing to do
with Network modeling, so you can assume a valid
measure value here for this example. So this was just an example showing both 'manually calculated and entered' and 'let Spatial figure it out'? As this is merely the offset from the starting point, wouldn't a user always use NULL to let Spatial figure it out? It seems like this model will always use whole links in a contiguous fashion, so when would the measure not be the cumulative total?
    2. Why in this example is measure even necessary? There
is no link to the underlying route from this table
(i.e. measures should only be recorded in the context
of a given route). So in this model (and example), the entry in roads is the route itself? Other LRS models allow the re-use of a common route, so multiple entries in the roads table would reference the same route (in another table). A real-life example is a single straight road that has different names, or has different road surface, or road classifications.
Folowing this example, if I wanted to spatially reference some other business attribution on an existing route, say R1, would I have to create another entry in roads and duplicate the data? Even if it has the same start/end locations and path?
A: Measure is always an offset from the start vertex
and this is true for any LRS system. I am not sure what
you mean by "not true LRS".My mistake in using these words; there is no true LRS, just different models/implementations of it =8^). Other LRS systems can have a measure beginning, say 2.5 metres after the starting node (node, not vertex; I define a vertex as as one of co-ordinates defining the link, and node as a topologically significant vertex such as the start and end vertices).
Hmmm, does this answer my first question above? If you wished to start a road (as per the example) slightly off of a node, would you enter a non-zero measure as the initial co-ordinate?
Assuming I'm on the right track (i.e. cannot re-use a route), does anyone know if Oracle plans to implement this kind of LRS in 10g Spatial?
I see a cryptic ".. for possible future use..." reference on page 6-31 regarding the create_path_table() and create_path_link_table() methods.
Is this future use to allow multiple uses and references of a route?
Thanks and sorry for the loooong email..

  • [iPhone] OpenGL IPhone Question

Greetings, I am new to programming on the iPhone and Objective-C so I hope you will excuse me if I ask a stupid question. I am experienced at Java (having worked with it for 14 years professionally) and I have some background in C and C++ that I have half forgotten but not completely.
I am trying to learn OpenGL programming on the iPhone and I have encountered a problem. In my test application I want to draw a icosahedron and I am having trouble with several sides completely missing. I was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction. Pasted below are the relevant sections of code based off the template for the OpenGL template.
It draws a good portion of the icosahedron but there appear to be sides missing and that causes odd things. I have been fiddling with this for hours and im out of ideas. I assume it must be something simple.

  • Is OCZ Vertex Turbo 60GB 2.5" SSD compatible with my Mac Pro, or do I need

Is OCZ Vertex Turbo 60GB 2.5" SSD compatible with my Mac Pro, or do I need the Vertex Mac Edition?
I have decided to purchase a SSD to use as a boot drive in the spare optical drive bay.
There are so many brands available, and Intel X25-M 'G2' seems generally to be the most highly rated overall. However, there is virtually no stock of 80GBs in the UK at present, except at extortionate prices, and I don't need 160GB.
Kingston SSDs are very reasonably priced, but seem to be a bit of an unknown quantity, although I rate their DDR3 memory very highly.
I have visited the websites of several manufacturers, and read various online reviews, and the recently introduced OCZ Vertex Turbo has had some good reviews, albeit on PC forums.
At the moment I can buy the 60GB Turbo for £170.66 inc.VAT from ebuyer.com, whereas their price for the standard Vertex 60GB is £193.99 inc. VAT, which seems very strange!
When I googled "OCZ Solid State Drives +UK", Amazon UK appeared on the listings, but there was a footnote which said " not suitable for use on Mac".
OCZ list a Vertex Series Mac Edition on their website, and that is why I am asking this question.
Unfortunately, there are no UK listings when I google the Mac Edition, and I am hoping that somebody of the ilk of "the hatter" or "samsara" will be able to answer my question.
If anybody else is using the Vertex Turbo in a Mac, I would be very grateful for your input. Likewise if you have had bad experiences with OCZ SSDs.
If I wait 3-4 weeks I should be able to buy an Intel X25-M G2 80GB for round about the same price as the Vertex Turbo 60GB, i.e. if prices remain the same as currently being quoted by vendors who are out of stock.
All input will be very gratefully received. If it is positive, I will go ahead and order a Vertex Turbo from ebuyer, in case they run out of stock (which is 16 at present).
    Many thanks in anticipation, guys!

    Hi Samsara,
Many thanks for your advices once again.
60GB will be more than adequate as my boot drive. At the moment I am using a VelociRaptor 300GB, and I have used less than 30GB of space. That is after reinstalling all my applications and software, and includes all my files, folders, and printer drivers etc.
I have utilised under 50GB of the original 640GB hard drive, but that includes a lot of photo images which I imported into both iPhoto and Aperture.
When I receive my Agility EX SSD I will clone from the VelociRaptor using Super Duper, and I will then set up a 4 drive RAID 0 using 4 VelociRaptor 300GB disks. That set up should suit my needs for many years to come, even when I eventually upgrade from Photoshop Elements 8 to CS5.
I will back up the Agility EX to the 640GB hard drive using Super Duper Smart Update, and that will be my spare boot drive.
The 4 drive RAID 0 will be backed up to the My Book Studio Edition II 2TB, using Time Machine.
In your experienced opinion, do you think that set up will be satisfactory?
The Agility EX is actually the latest generation of OCZ SSDs, and it is one of only 2 models in their "Maximum Performance" range, whereas the original Agility was only a "Mainstream" model.
The key factor is that the Agility EX uses single-level cells (SLC), instead of multi-level cells (MLC). It is second only to the Vertex EX Series in terms of performance per GB in the OCZ range of SATA 2.5" Solid State Drives.
In very recent reviews it has outperformed both the Vertex Turbo and Vertex 120GB models from the OCZ "Performance" range in most of the test benchmarks.

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/ocz-agility-ex-ssd-60gb-review-test/3
The above are just a few of the very favourable reviews of the Agility EX SSD.
I preferred to buy a 60GB SLC, rather than a 120GB MLC, because SLCs reputedly have 10 times more life expectancy, and performance wise per GB there is no comparison.
Only time will tell if I have made the right decision!

  • New CRM implemetation with R/3 4.7 as the backend using vertex

I am trying to figure out how my new CRM system and my existing R/3 system should be configured to user Vertex.  I spoke to Vertex and they indicated only one of these systems should communicate directly with Vertex.  If that is the case, the existing R/3 system should continue to communicate with Vertex.  Then the question becomes how do we configure CRM to communicate with R/3 in order to get taxes from Vertex?
    Thanks for any assistance

    hi,
as far i see from the documentation , ECC has to be used as backend.
But anyway you have to wait for the master guide to come up in the service market place , which will give details of what all combinations is possible.
can you please check out on service market place wether master guide is released already , as far as i know it is yet to be released.

  • Need to find impact of Vertex O series upgrade on ECC and changes required?

    Hello experts,
My client is upgrading Vertex series to O from Q.
As part of Q series, additional fields such street will be used to identify correct tax jurisdiction code in system.
Also, zip code used will be 9 digits (zip+4) instead of 5 digits.
We need to correct existing master data and open transactions in system with new jurisdiction code along with supporting new data in system.
    Below are the questions:
    1. What changes are required in ECC side to support new vertex series in interface etc?
    2. How can we achieve integration of vertex O series with new master and transnational data getting created in system to have right TXJCD value?
    3. What all possible solutions are available to correct master data and transnational data in system with correct TXJCD value?
Any pointers to experience with Vertex will be rewarded.
    Thank you,
    Gouri.

    Hi,
    > 1. is there any dependency for the remaining systems in the landscape (SRM 5.0 SPS15, NW 7.0 SPS18, PI 7.1 SPS8, >SOLMAN EHP01 SPS22)?
As such there is no dependency between component you specified but SAP always says to be on latest patches. As far as solution manager is concerned you should have minimum support pack level Solman 7.0 SP17 but anyway you are more than that.
    > 2. we are using AIX Version 5.3 and "DB2 v9.5.0.2", does it support ECC 6.0 EHP04 or do I need to upgrade?..
It is fine with your upgrade.
    > 3. Java version for NW 7.0 is as follows:
    > java version "1.4.2"
    > Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2)
    > Classic VM (build 1.4.2, J2RE 1.4.2 IBM AIX 5L for PowerPC (64 bit JVM) build caix64142-20080122 (SR10) (JIT enabled: jitc))

    Java version is also fine.

  • Question about Video Cards on Laptops

Hi everyone, and sorry if I post this in the wrong area. I own a few computers, some are consider ancient and others are somewhat old but can run Windows XP just fine. I have a question about the computers in the stores today.
I am looking to invest in a new laptop, possibly a desktop in the near future depending on my budget. The question I have about video cards today is that, I enjoy a good MMO game now and then, I don't expect to play heavy intensive games, just maybe some more advance games. I notice that for one game that I want to play, it requires a video card to have (Shadow Rendering, Vertex and Pixle Shaders). Do the computers today have those as standard for thier video card? Or do I have to invest in a little bit more expensive laptop/desktop. I am willing to invest money for some more RAM, if I need to improve its preformance. The reason I ask is because I have a 4 year old Laptop with a broken keyboard, and I was thinking about just replacing the laptop with a newer one. it has some pretty good specs and runs everything fine, but it can not play certain games because of those missing video requirements. (Current laptop incase someone is curious: 1.5Ghz Celeron M, 1GB memory 64MB video (Shared) ) Thanks to anyone who has the answer to this question. (P.S sorry if everything is scrunched together. for some reason the formatting is wierd on Opera web browser

Graphics cards have all those standard today... or at least they should unless you get a really cheap Graphics card. The kind of graphics card and processor and other specs of the computer you want to get should depend on what you want to do with it. It also depends on the kind of games you want to play. If you're playing FPS [first person shooter] then you need a really good graphics card and processor. If you're playing something like Diablo 2 or something that's on the lower end of graphics then you just need decent specs. Graphics cards, I suggest something with aGeForce Nividia card... as of today, they are in the 9 series for high-end cards I believe. For processors... get something like Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 or T9600 or the Core 2 Quatros or Extremes. Extremes are intended for hardcore gaming and would be more expensive. For RAM you should have at least 2GB... you can always upgrade that later.
    For laptops my suggestions are:
    $3k+ get a customized alienware
$2-3 get a customized dell xps, or macbook pro [although if you're gaming i would suggest you dual boot with windows xp or vista]
$1-2k get a cheaper customized dell, or sony vaio
under $1k... well I don't know what to say... you can't really get a nice gaming computer for under that price.
I personally DO NOT like HP computers at all because they are so quirky and have so many problems and break down easily.

  • A few JOGL/OpenGL questions

    Question 1:
    Basically, whenever i see a tutorial or example featuring OpenGL or JOGL and see the method;
glVertex3f, the values are always floats and always below OR equal to 1.0f.
Now, the models i am using i first rendered using java.awt.Graphics, which basically ment i had to calculate x, y and z values in pixels, so now i need to convert to use with OpenGL.
    Question 2:
    What is the simplest way of applying a texture to a rendered model in JOGL, for example if i made a simple quad for a floor tile like so;
    gl.glBegin(GL.GL_QUADS);
    gl.glVertex3f(0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f); // Bottom left vertex.
    gl.glVertex3f(1.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f);
    gl.glVertex3f(1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f);
    gl.glVertex3f(0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f);
gl.glEnd();How would i apply a simple 2d, normal image to that?
    Ive tried using;
    Texture texture = TextureIO.read(file);
    texture.bind();
gl.glEnable(GL.GL_TEXTURE_2D);But it dosn't seem to work.
    Question 3:
How do you rotate the viewpoint so that the map is rotated towards you, for example if you were holding a camera and you tilt the camera down and view the floor from a birds eye view more?
Thanks for any help to any of the questions.

    - buy/download an OpenGL book. Seriously, you are not going to get anywhere without knowledge of at least the basics of the API and the math behind it. There are no books for JOGL, but it is a simple mapping directly on top of OpenGL, so any OpenGL book will give you the knowledge you need to work with JOGL. Most books use simple c++ code, which is easy enough to read and translate to Java code.
    - Be aware of the performance constraints on the glVertex line of methods; they are okay for simple testing and prototyping, but when you want to do any serious rendering learn how to use vertex buffers in stead.
Also, did you know there is a game development forum? You'll have more chance of getting help there. also checking the the http://www.javagaming.org forum. Perhaps you do not want to create a game, but JOGL is mostly used in gaming/simulations.

  • ECC 5.0 and CRM 7.0 Integration Questions

    Hello,
We are on ECC 5.0 and are part of a global implementation that is putting in CRM 7.0.
We have a couple of issues/questions.
    1.  We want to integrate ECC Internal Orders with CRM Contracts and Orders.  However we don't see the ECC Internal Order type SAPS in ECC 5.0.  What release/plugin would give us SAPS Internal order type
    2.  We currently use CS and PM in ECC, and we have equipment and func. locations.  Do we need to be on a certain version/plugin to integrate Equipment and Func. Locations with CRM iBase?
    3.  Any tips/suggestions on integrating Vertex with CRM for taxes.
    Thanks
    chris

    Hi
    Here are the Answers
    1. We want to integrate ECC Internal Orders with CRM Contracts and Orders. However we don't see the ECC Internal Order type SAPS in ECC 5.0. What release/plugin would give us SAPS Internal order type
    - This is release indepedant- It is been available from R/3 4.7 so you should have it, if you dont have an SAPS order type, you have 2 options
              1. Create your own SAPS Order type
              2. Define RFC from  Client "000" and push the order type. This must be available in "000" as a standard delivery, may be your Basis did not move the order types properly.
    2. We currently use CS and PM in ECC, and we have equipment and func. locations. Do we need to be on a certain version/plugin to integrate Equipment and Func. Locations with CRM iBase?
Yes you can have the equipment and Functional Locations, but for FLocs to download to CRM you need ECC6.0 with Sp6 anything below cannot be integrated or downloaded with CRM7.0 .. for Equipments any versions are fine and you do all configuration and customization in CRM
    3. Any tips/suggestions on integrating Vertex with CRM for taxes.
Its a broad question, SAP provides standard integration option to vertex, and you integrate as needed..
let me know if you need anything else.

  • W520 support for SATA III or 6GB with Vertex 3 240GB SSD

I need a laptop that supports 16GB memory, HD display (1920 X 1080) and SATA 3 with 6Gb speeds to leverage my existing Vertex 3 240GB SSD.
Looking up PSREF, I find the W520 specs state SATA 3Gb/s (SATA II?) while the chipset is QM67 which is supposed to support SATA III 6Gb/s.
So the question is, does the W520 support SATA 3 at 6Gb/s? I need the throughput to leverage the throughput of the Vertex 3 240GB SSD  for multiple VM's on my laptop.
    Thanks and regards
    Sarge Thomas
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just for the record i been using several SSDs with the W520 including the OCZ Vertex 3 and OCZ Vertex 3 max and they both fit fine with the rubber rails in the W520. Just don't mount the case that is normally around the HDD/SSD. You won't need that case anyway when using the SSD in the W520. Use only the rubber rails and the SSD will fit fine and should be seated fine as well.

  • Problems with Vertex and ECC 6.0

We have recently upgraded to ECC 6.0. We applied the CodePage to the R# database and the connection to Vertex was fine. But, the connection no longer worked after we upgraded to release ECC 6.0. We are receiving a TP connect error when checking the connection in SM59. We still do not have a solution. Can someone out there pleasssse point me in the right direction?

    Hi Brett,
sorry, but I think you do not fully understand the difference of an IP and a port ...
The IP is the thing, that makes the servER unique and the Port is the ing that makes the ServICE unique. As you have to use the gateway of your instance it will ALWAYS be sapgw00 as I do exepect that you are using instance number 00. In your case, there is just no reason, to install a second gateway instance - this makes it just more complicated ...
If you want to register from another IP (from another server), this is no problem either. Just move your config & programs over to that other server (where I don't see a reason as well) and it will work, because RFC is used to be located on different servers )
    =>
I would just call your current program 3 times and let it run 3 times in the current subsystem, that you opted for and then it will work "round robin" and I would be interested in the question, if it still is unstable ...
