Occasionally and sporadically - I cannot reproduce this issue - a small vertical column-ed pop-up button appears in the lower right corner of my (Firefox) browser screen. It is not clear what causes this - I thought perhaps that it had something to do with Google's new gmail format which I have, so far refused to adopt, although when it forces me to do so, I Accept and then re-configure back to the old look. I don't think the problem is with gmail, though since tonight I was accessing the New York Time subscription web-site. However, tonight - 31JAN2012 - this button popped up, stuck around for maybe 30 seconds and then went away. It is small - about a quarter inch wide; perhaps one-half to three quarters of an inch tall. It displays on the top of the button the "<" followed underneath by the word "OPEN" (displayed vertically). I know better than to push an OPEN button whose function is absolutely opaque to me - fool me once... My desktop has the latest version of Firefox - 9.0.1 and I just loaded the latest update. I am running Windows XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.111025-1629 : Service Pack 3). Further info re. operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 - that was probably pretty clear from the Version and Build info above. Hardware: ACER-42041E6643 - ACPI Multiprocessor PC - Chip/Processor: Intel Atom CPU 230 @ 1.60 GHz (2 of these). I can provide more system and configuration information, as necessary. As it is, I go to System Info and it will not let me copy all of the system info above - I had to copy it brute-force manually. I have managed tech support organizations in the past. The first question you ask the user is: "What changed?" or perhaps "What did you change?" Like every other user with an issue, my response is: Nothing of which I am aware. I certainly am not going to push this button - perhaps it toggles between something and something else - more than like so - or it opens "something" - I will not find out what since I refuse to push it. I am guessing this is some benign "feature" of which I am unaware. Any assistance with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and best, Dan Deren.

That fixes the dash, which is an underline. The default style for a link is an underline and since it was not defined the tag gets the default style for the underline.

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Tap and hold on the Keyboard key at the bottom right side of the right portion of the keyboard. You can use the Dock and Merge option from the menu.
Alternatively you can drag the keyboard down and move slightly left, to get it to merge.

Bottom right corner resize controls trump vertical scroll button if set to appear in the bottom corner

My bottom right corner square of the Firefox window normally sits below the bottom of the vertical scroll bar and right of the horizontal scroll bar if one exists. The square is used to click and drag to resize the window's right and bottom boundaries.
At issue is when a web site places its vertical scroll down-arrow button in the bottom right corner. I cannot access the down-arrow button with my mouse to cause the page to scroll down a few lines at a time because when I point the mouse there, I get the resize controls instead. Even though the down-arrow button is plainly visible on the screen, the resize controls take charge and I cannot use the scroll control.
Two example web sites display their down-arrow control at the very bottom of the window; TIME.com and GMAIL.com. I have also viewed two PDF documents in the browser, and they too, have a vertical scroll bar all the way to the bottom, and I cannot use that down-arrow button because instead I get the northwest-southeast click-to-resize cursor instead of the mouse pointer when I attempt to use that button for scrolling.
Someone on the Google Help forum was not able to replicate that issue, showing me screenshots of his lower right corner mouse behavior. He does not have the resize control covering access to the scroll bar.
I am using the latest Firefox, I have reset Firefox, thus dumping all of my add-ons and custom settings, and have only put back AdBlock Plus and Cookie Monster. And Troubleshooter, when I asked a similar question.
I am running Windows XP, on its last days of support. This computer is not capable of running anything newer, unless I run with Linux.
Going to TIME.com, its vertical scroll is in the bottom corner and I get the resize control arrows instead of the mouse pointer when I point to the down-button. If I disable page styles in the View menu, I get a useful output that sets the end of the vertical scroll above the bottom corner. So somebody's idea of styling the page (CSS) creates this issue for me.
Going to Gmail, turning off the styles gives me a useless output of nonsense, so I must use page styling enabled.
Can someone please give me some guidance? This forum page has vertical and horizontal scroll above and left of the bottom corner square. I have access to all the parts of both scroll bars, as is the case on most well-designed pages.
My window-resize controls are in charge always of the bottom corner square even if the vertical scroll is supposed to be there.

Those layout.css prefs are about enabling some CSS feature, in this case vertical writing, so have nothing to do with scroll bars.

I am having problems using Numbers package, unable to add specific cells in a column, when I tap "sum" it totals the whole column, rather than the specific cells I want. Would appreciate any help. Thank You Francis

I don't know if this is the best way but it's pretty easy.
1.) Select the cell you want the sum in.
2.) Select the sum function
3.) In the line where you see =sum(B2:B8) using your finger tap the B2:B8
4.) Use the backspace key to delete the B2:B8 and it will then show "value"
5.) You can now tap any cell you want in the sum
6.) When finished tap the green check mark button at the end of the sum line.
That pretty much sums it up.

I have a huge mess I would appreciate any help possible with Itunes!

I've had Itunes forever now and it's been fine. With this last upgrade, it's created some problems. Half of my new playlists created have disappeared. The music is still there in the library, just the playlists are gone which was enough to fill a 60 gb ipod. Itunes now reads at the bottom I have 1022 GB of music - my hard drive is 250gb so that's obviously incorrect. My iphone will not recognize my calendar or my contacts in Office 2003 with all updates - so basically it's hosed. Someone had given me a link to uninstall it which I did. I restarted. Then I uninstalled apple mobile something or other and restarted. Then I deleted the itunes folder from program files emptied recycle bin and then restarted. I then proceeded to re-download and install itunes. I went through the hour process of uninstall and restart then install. I get everything finished and open itunes expecting to see a fresh clean slate and it's exactly the same. If you have pages 4, just do File > New From Template Chooser and select Invitations under the Page Layout category.

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

I have some problems with this dynamic form (created in livecycle) http://www.pathology.ubc.ca/Academic_Activity_Data_Form_Jan_4_2013.pdf . It doesn't save data unless I add a' new row' to any of these tables.   There are a few text fileds and if I type anything in there data won't be saved unless I trigger it by adding randomly a table row. This is big problem as this form will be used for updates and if I want to change any of my entered records I will always have to remember to 'add a new row' otherwise just adding/changing text won't be saved. This might sound confusing but you will understanding what is going on if you type in your name and save the form and then type in your name, add a table row and save the form (first case won't be saved second will).
I would greatly appreciate any help.
