Vertical columns in Mail

Has Apple mail for 10.6.8 been updated recently? I like the vertical columns given by either Widemail or Letterbox, both are now flagged as incompatible with Mail. This has just happened. Short of moving to 10.8.2 can this be resoved on my wife's 27" iMac?

You find some help in the "More Like This" section on the right side of this post.
Best.

  • Vertical column pop-up button-"OPEN"-with left " " appears-bottom right corner Firefox screen-Independent of web-site visited-Am "secured" against virus-Have not touched button: "Danger, Will Robinson." Appreciate any help. Thnx. DanDeren

Occasionally and sporadically - I cannot reproduce this issue - a small vertical column-ed pop-up button appears in the lower right corner of my (Firefox) browser screen. It is not clear what causes this - I thought perhaps that it had something to do with Google's new gmail format which I have, so far refused to adopt, although when it forces me to do so, I Accept and then re-configure back to the old look. I don't think the problem is with gmail, though since tonight I was accessing the New York Time subscription web-site. However, tonight - 31JAN2012 - this button popped up, stuck around for maybe 30 seconds and then went away. It is small - about a quarter inch wide; perhaps one-half to three quarters of an inch tall. It displays on the top of the button the "<" followed underneath by the word "OPEN" (displayed vertically). I know better than to push an OPEN button whose function is absolutely opaque to me - fool me once... My desktop has the latest version of Firefox - 9.0.1 and I just loaded the latest update. I am running Windows XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.111025-1629 : Service Pack 3). Further info re. operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 - that was probably pretty clear from the Version and Build info above. Hardware: ACER-42041E6643 - ACPI Multiprocessor PC - Chip/Processor: Intel Atom CPU 230 @ 1.60 GHz (2 of these). I can provide more system and configuration information, as necessary. As it is, I go to System Info and it will not let me copy all of the system info above - I had to copy it brute-force manually. I have managed tech support organizations in the past. The first question you ask the user is: "What changed?" or perhaps "What did you change?" Like every other user with an issue, my response is: Nothing of which I am aware. I certainly am not going to push this button - perhaps it toggles between something and something else - more than like so - or it opens "something" - I will not find out what since I refuse to push it. I am guessing this is some benign "feature" of which I am unaware. Any assistance with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and best, Dan Deren.

  • HT2500 how to alphabetize mailboxes (mail folders) in left column of Mail application

Does anyone know how to how to alphabetize mailboxes (mail folders) in left column of Mail application? It should be easy, but I can't find a way.
    Thanks.

Hi sanjampet, that didn't work for me.  I disabled my five email accounts, which made the emails dissappear, all mail folders were still visible, I closed the program.  I reopened the program, re-enabled the email accounts, and all the same folders were all still visible - not in alphabetical order, so frustrating.  One would think apple would have a simple button that could be clicked to put mail box folders into order?  Drag and drop is too difficult for me too due to the number of mailboxes.  Any other thoughts?

  • IPTC CORE/DESCRIPTION, LETTERS SHOW IN VERTICAL COLUMN

    HI,
I intended to attach a screenshot, I clicked on camera, browsed from computer, selected screenshot, opened, nothing happens, image doesn't show.
So for now please imagine in description a vertical column of letters. That happens both from a template and manual.
By the way, can you tell me how to insert a screenshot without investing my day in looking for the use of forum forum?
    thanks

OK, I have the screenshot now, if you look at Description left, you can see the words in a column of  only 2 letters per line.
When description field is open to edit, the column in even longer, again 2 letters per line.  Very long, quite bizar.

  • Vertical Column Selection in Safari

In FireFox, in an online table, one can select a vertical column of items by holding down the Cmd key and left-clicking and dragging the mouse cursor down the column. This is handy for selecting a group of files for downloading. The column can be selected and directed into a download manager or if the column is simple text, the selection can be right-clicked and saved as usual.
Being able to select a vertical column is quite handy.
I do not seem to find this option in Safari. Is it missing or is it some other key combo? I have tried the obvious keys to no avail.

i have some more images of this... Can anyone give any insite?

  • How to display horizontally to vertically column in oracle

    Dear All
How to display horizontally to vertically column in oracle,Please give me Sol. ASAP

    Sunil,
Which column is the sal column? I can’t see any numeric columns in your query. If you use htmldb_item calls in your query column, then this makes them strings and you can’t build sums on string columns. If you want to build sums in an updateable report / tabular form, then don’t use the htmldb_item API. Instead use the built-in display types on the report column attributes page. Using the built-in display types is the better options in most cases anyway and they do allow you to calculate sums even if the column is a text field or display and save type field.

  • TS3276 I need feedback for the following issue. When I send email from this 27 inch iMac, the computer adds a string of characters in vertical column that represents the QWERTY key board, all alpha numeric characters are included. Yahoo mail, issue only o

    Restating my issue / question...
When I send email from this iMac, there is a string of characters assigned. The characters are all the "alpha numeric" characters on the QWERTY key board. This only occurs when email is sent from this iMac. The issue does not manifest when using any other lap top or computer.
Hence, I have ruled out the issue is a yahoo mail matter.
Again, I can access the Yahoo mail account form multiple devices and send email without unintended assignment of character strings, but when I send wmail using this iMac, the issue happens everytime.
Characters are stacked verticaly in a column. It looks as if all characters (except function keys) are included in the string.
    Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; } | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}' | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

I want to read my emails in horizontal view - reading pane at the bottom of the monitor - on iCloud. I cannot change the view from vertical and columns? Anyone know how I can do this? It was called 'classic view' in Mobileme.

  • Is there a way of combining From and To columns in Mail?

I've just tumbled to the fact that Mail displays separate From and To columns--rather than an integrated Who or Correspondent one.
In Thunderbird, with the add on Show InOut, or in the venerable Eudora, by default, there is a single column that shows you who the correspondent was and neatly italcizes your sent messages, so you can tell at a glance whether it was something you sent to the person or something they sent you.
It's bizarre having to look back and forth at From and To to figure that out rather than scanning down a single column.  Having to display both columns also takes up needless room!
Is there any way in Mail of combining those columns so that it works like Eudora or Thunderbird with its addon?
Does Mail have an add on systems or take extensions?

No application can change how the built in Contacts app works, or the Contacts list within Phone. To access your contacts, you'd need to use a third-party app that pulls the data from your contact info and shows it differently.
But I don't know if there is one that offers the layout you describe--search and compare screenshots. Sometimes I find it easier to browse this website than the App Store in iTunes:
    http://appshopper.com/search/?search=contacts
    Maybe this one?
    http://appshopper.com/social-networking/pokemian
For changes to the built-in apps, you'd need to ask Apple:

  • How do you make the attachments column in Mail function in new Mavericks download

I just downloaded Mavericks to my 2009 21" iMac.  In the classic layout of "Mail", I cannot put an attachments column in the view because it comes out almost solid black -- huge black paperclips for practically every listing.

  • Custom mailbox columns in Mail?

    I'm using Mail 3.5 on 10.5.6.
I've been trying set up Mail to display different columns in different mailboxes in ON MY MAC section in the left hand nav panel. Example: I'd like to show Received date in one mailbox without showing Sent date, and vice versa in another mailbox (ie show only Sent column but not Received column).
Unfortunately, every time I set either of the above, the other mailbox also shows the change. I want the 2 mailboxes to have different columns.
Is this possible? If so, how?
Many thanks in advance for any help offered. Thank you.

I have this EXACT same problem. I was trying to figure it out today. It's like Mail needs a "save" function when you set the columns. Did you ever figure it out? What's weird is that I have another computer, same OS, same version of Mail, and I can set the columns.
    Thanks.

  • Why don't VIP names show up in the Mailboxes column on Mail for Yosemite?

I added a couple of new colleagues to my VIP list in mail yesterday after installing Yosemite. The colleagues were added to the VIP list, but their names are not displayed in the Mailboxes column. Everything about the VIP functionality works -- the messages I expect to find when clicking on the un-named stars in the list are the right messages. Only the name label is missing:
I've tried the obvious things: quitting and relaunching Mail, logging out/logging back in, restarting my MacBook.
This is an Office365 Exchange email account.
Anyone else see this problem or have suggestions for how to get the names attached to the stars in the VIP mailbox list?

You backed the phone up to iCloud, but what were you syncing the contacts with? Apparently, it wasn't iCloud...
