Vertical lines, but only upon booting up

Hi,
my problem occurs (for now) only when booting up my mac and only, when it has been turned off for a few hours. When I start up, about one third of my screen (right side) stays black, then has only vertical lines in different colours, then image starts vibrating and after several minutes settles to normal function. I did a screenshot when the screen was vibrating and on the shot everything looks normal.
Since this only occurs when starting, Apple staff told me on the phone it shouldn't be a hardware error (mhm... is it really that easy?). Tried installing OS X anew and resetting PRAM, like they told me, but error stayed. Any other suggestions what might be the problem here or stuff i could try out (software-wise)?

I've had problems with vertical lines, detailed in
another topic. This problem is different & very
specific: My project has no vertical line problem,
until I export it into a Full Quality DV file. The FQ
DV file has vertical lines in the first photo of the
clip when played in QT 6.5.2. I've deleted the DV
file & re-exported 3 times, to no avail. Remember,
the original project file has no problems.
It's not like I could do in the original project:
Focus on the offending first clip. That first clip is
now embedded into a DV clip with all the other clips.
Do I just duplicate another DV clip & go thru the
usual procedure to eliminate a clip with vertical
lines? But, even if I delete the corrupted clip, I
cannot replace it with a clean clip, due to the
corrupting process that apparently occurs when I
export my project to a DV clip.
Should I include a clean KB still at the beginning of
my project before exporting it to FQ DV? If so, how
do I delete that clip from the DV clip? It seems to
me, once you convert to a DV clip, all bets are off
re: editing individual components (clips) that make
up the DV clip.
Any thoughts, anyone?
Since I started three topics re: vertical line problems & now that, with help from all of you & my own struggles, I've solved the problem(s), I feel I owe an explanation of where I am now.
I thought all the stills I made to extend the duration of the KB clips in my projects were themselves KB clips. Not so. I did not render these clips as KB clips. Therefore, using these clips as place holders had no effect in removing the vertical lines.
Thanks to all for their time, expertise, & patience.

Can some body throw light on this issue?

    Hi Jaheer,
how do you submit the lines, with the lines-Statement or the underline? Which printer? If it is a needle it might cause problems. What driver SWIN?

  • Macbook X 10.6.8. Epson SX218 failed to print every fifth line, but only in MS Office documents. I updated Office. Now that line is slightly blurred as though the printer had missed out a pass.

I am helping a disabled person with a printing problem involving a Macbook, an Epson SX218, and MS Office for Macs. The Macbook had been recently updated to OS X 10.6.8, and the printer driver reinstalled, by an Apple store. She complained the printer failed to print about every fifth line. It turned out there was no problem at all with printing web pages and emails, but only with Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). I updated
Office. Later all lines were printed, but imperfectly with a bit missing from bottom of every fifth line, as though the printer had missed out a pass, so I am not sure the Office update is what made the difference. I am not at all sure whether this problem arises from the Mac or the printer or Office.

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

  • HP LaserJet 9050 one vertical line duplex only

The HP LaserJet 9050 is printing one vertcal line near the center of the page (offset 1/2" from center).  This occurs only during duplex printing on the odd number pages only.  The line is not solid, it look like varing width dash down the page.  I have swapped the duplexer unit, fuser unit and toner/drum unit with a working 9050 printer, it did not help.  I have also tried cleaning rollers and guides, but I am not sure which are unique to the duplex operation. Thanks in Advance,Julian

  • We have 5 lines but only using 4; how do I terminate the unused line?  Is there a fee?  Can I transfer end of contract date from another line to the line we don't use?

We each have a phone and our three children are on our account as well.  One of my boys just started his own account and is no longer using his phone or the line that is on our account.  The contract end date is another year away but my other son's contract end date is next month.  Is it possible to transfer the contract end date like we can transfer upgrade dates?  I hate to pay $50/month for a line that's not being used.

No, you cannot transfer contract end dates. If you cancel the unused line, you will have to pay an ETF.
Your son still on your account could start using your other son's line and number. Then you could cancel out HIS old line once the contract runs out, but then he could not get a new phone for another year. Can his phone last another year?

  • Single Vertical Line When Using ADF for Scan or Copy on HP Officejet Pro 8600

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium Printer (CN577A)
    OS: MS 7 64 bit
When using the ADF for my CN577A HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer, I get a single vertical line on the document that is produced. This occurs when copying or scanning, both in black and white, and in color. If I scan or copy using the glass, I don't get the vertical line.
I already tried the troubleshooting.  I unplugged the printer, left it without power for several minutes; that didn't correct the problem.  Next, I cleaned the rollers and the glass; I still get the vertical line, but only when using the ADF.
My firmware version used is current (CLP1CN1150CR).
    What should I check next?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The ADF uses its own glass area on the scanner bed, it is the narrow (about 1" wide) strip on the left.  Cleaning this area should resolve the issue.  A single small spot would cause the issue you are seeing.

  • Thin vertical lines on my iMac 27"(late 2009)

    Hi,
I know there have been many issues with the iMac screens, actually I hold my purchase for months back in 2010 because of the first issues found on the 27" monitors. I bought mine that year with a 3 year Apple Care protection plan, which expired about 6 months ago(summer 2013). After that I started to notice some thin(1pixel) vertical lines but they weren't visible most of the time, until recently that they became very obvious and present all the time(see attachment). They can be easily seen on a dark grey background, which is very annoying when you do graphic/web design.
I contacted Apple Care and they say I should bring the iMac to a near Apple Store and they will tell me how much I will have to pay to get it fixed.
I just wanted to know if there is anyone out there with the same issue that had to pay to get it fixed, just to know more or less how much can that cost. I don't live close to an Apple Store and I don't have a car, which makes it hard for me to carry such a big box and If fixing this issue is too expensive(> 500 euros), I will not repair it and live with a crappy screen.
    It's an iMac 27"(late 2009), 2.8GHz Intel Core i7. With ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have exactly the same issue with an iMac mid 2010 and its the monitor itself.
I was at an Apple Service Station today and they quickly checked the iMac. Its an electronic defect and the only way is to exchange the monitor pannel. The cost would be around 550,- €.

  • W500 4061-W8Q. Vertical Lines - BSOD

    Hi!
I have my W500 4061-W8Q for almost 3 years already and it has been working perfectly.... till now.
I have changed nothing in my system, but today in the evening i got a BSOD with "ati2dvag" error and that device has gone into "infinite loop"... In BIOS the display settings were: graphics for BIOS: internal, use discrete graphics, don't allow OS detect switchable graphics.
Fortunately i have Intel Integrated graphics and i could switch to it in BIOS... Still no solution i found helped me so far. Yes, there was a suggestion with "PCI-to-PCI Bridge" fix, original ATI drivers. But! i noticed that i get the vertical lines while laptop is booting already and sometimes it hangs so early that i even can't get into windows for a benchmark or something like that...
As my intel-graphic card is running ok, i suppose that ATI Graphic Card won't work properly anymore?! Did anyone have such problem? Or should i send it to guarantee right now?
    Hope for some help here
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just in case anyone else will have such problem -> go to service center...
My Systemboard = Mainboard was exchanged (guarantee). Now working perfectly.

  • Mirror 2 Mirror--vertical lines during DVD player playback on Monitor 2

I have a gateway 22 inch and a RCA TV 40 inch. When I mirror to the RCA durring dvd playback i will see lines ONLY on the DVD window. It slowly scrolls. If i DO NOT mirror and just move the Player over from the gateway screen to the RCA screen, the Lines do not appear during playback. I want to mirror for my clients to see my VIDEO work on the Large TV..but it looks poor when I have slow moving vertical lines. How can I fix this? The vertical lines are ONLY in the DVD player window..the desktop part does not have the lines scrolling.

Well, I tried that on a section, and I'm afraid it may have been worse than I had originally.  These are the settings in Compressor that I tried.  Am I still getting something wrong?

  • Red vertical lines at timeline while rendering+saving

Sometimes I get red vertical lines at timeline while rendering+saving my projects. What do they mean?

System ==> Mac mini (late 2009), CPU: 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, RAM: 2GB 1066MHz DDR3, OS: Mac OS X Version 10.6.5. Adobe products ==> Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere Elements 9 (including Adobe Elements 9 Organizer)
Please notice that the the red vertical lines appear only in the TIMELINE and not to the video (rendered and/or exported) itself! I would guess that it has to do with the quality of the video, or with the fact that it is not rendered and these are the "difficult" pieces of the video, but I don't know so ... it would only be a guess.

  • How to change the color of text but only when that text is highlighted

I am NOT asking how to change the highlight color OR how to change the text color generally, but rather, how to change the text color as it shows onscreen while it is highlighted. Here's where I'm going:
Text is ordinarily black (assume) such as when the Finder is open or when viewing a list of all emails in an inbox.
Let's say I change the highlight color systemwide, in prefs > appearance > highlight color, to a custom color ("other") of black (for example).
In certain programs (mail, billings, iBank, addressbook, even the Finder), when I highlight a line of something, (like when I one-click on an email or a file name just to select it but not open it), the line will highlight in black, but the text of that line will automatically change to white so it can be seen.
However, when I highlight actual text (click and drag or double click), such as when editing a document in Pages and selecting a word, line, paragraph, editing an email, etc., the highlight is black, and the text remains black also, which means it cannot be seen (black on black).
So, how do I change it so that when I highlight the actual text the text color changes to white, then when it is de-selected, it goes back to black.
I'm not afraid to do a little terminal/command line, but only if it’s a little. Hope this gives enough detail.
    Thanks.

You can use span HTML tag.
For example, if your label is "Product Name", and you want it to appear in red, you can type this:
    <span style="color:red">Product Name</span>Hope it helps.

  • Vertical Lines or Guides in Code View

    Hello:
Am I missing a setting in DW or did they just not include this. I am used to seeing vertical lines in code view to note where the beging of a tag originated. For example if I put a <TD> tag somwhere in the document and move on down the code line, when I finally put the </td> tag there is a vertical line leading up to it.
Any help or advice on this would be very helpful.
    Paul

@pmsquillace : definitely! I am dying for vertical grid lines. Dreamweaver, this is a must. This feature is needed greatly. I just looked for yet another time to find a plugin for Dreamweaver to get vertical lines but 0 results.
Now I have realized my own best option is to use the pixel ruler . It can be a lesser substitute which I an now going to use as needed.
@John Waller : I am submitting a feature request right away. Thanks for the link.
