Vertical lines on screen? Help!

Anyone have these awful vertical lines on screen?  They just showed up. If you take a screen shot you can't see them. How do I fix this? This happened when I was activating and syncing phone.

Those are temporary fixes and will get you up and running. I think you should call Apple or bring it back to the Apple Store BEFORE you try and resolve the vertical lines problem.
I had the same problem come up after my MacBook did not go to sleep and after force shutting it down, several times I ended up with the vertical lines problem. It may be a prelude to the Random Shutdown problem as my MacBook developed that problem about two weeks after the vertical lines problem.
Just a thought...

  • Fix for vertical lines and screen freeze on 2008 iMac after Yosemite upgrade?

Mavericks was running slow with iPhoto.  Did the Yosemite upgrade.  Vertical lines on screen before everything freezes except mouse.  Mouse continues to respond but nothing else, so forced to power off.  Tried a revert to Mavericks but that seemed to tick it off (made things worse).  Read 3 year old threads that graphics drivers may be at fault, but not sure how to remedy that.  Any ideas?

  • HT3964 vertical lines on screen

Monitor has developed vertical lines down screen. Was told by Apple Store that it would cost $85 to look at it and being so old parts would most likely be available. Are parts still available?

In all fairness, I think you may agree that a 6 year life for a computer and monitor is generally considered reasonable, even in the PC world.  And I seriously doubt, if the monitor itself is failing, you'd be able to find the parts to fix a 6 year old LCD PC monitor.  Best wishes.
    Hope this helps

  • Green vertical lines on screen

dvd player sony model dvp ns57p has green vertical lines on screen.  any suggestions.  get a new playler blueray?

    Please try the steps below:
Adjust the color settings on your TV to make sure the issue is not a simple screen adjustment.
Make sure the disc player is properly connected. The disc player should be connected directly to a TV or Audio/Video (A/V) receiver. It should not be connected to a VCR. This issue can occur if a video signal encrypted with copyright protection passes through a VCR.
NOTE: When the disc player is connected through an A/V receiver, you should also check the connections between the A/V receiver and the TV.
If using A/V cables, check that the red, white, and yellow plugs are securely connected to the same colored jacks on both the disc player and TV (or A/V receiver).
If using component cables, check that the red, green, and blue plugs are securely connected to the same colored Y/P B /P R jacks on both the disc player and TV (or A/V receiver).
If using an S-Video cable, check that it is securely connected to both the disc player and TV (or A/V receiver).
Try playing a different disc to see if the issue only occurs with the one disc.
If the issue is occurring with more than one disc, replace the cables connecting the disc player to the TV (or A/V receiver).
NOTE: When the disc player is connected through an A/V receiver, you should also try changing or replacing the cable between the A/V receiver and TV.
Try connecting the disc player to different input jacks on the TV (or A/V receiver) and change the input mode accordingly to determine if the issue is with a particular input jack.
Try playing another video source (such as a VCR) to determine whether or not the issue only occurs with the disc player.
If the issue occurs with other video sources, then the problem is with the TV (or A/V receiver).
If the issue only occurs when using the disc player, then the disc player may require service.

  • IPhone 6 vertical lines in screen

My iPhone 6 is new out of the box less than 12 hours ago, immediately it had a thin gray line running from top to bottom and now this morning there are two of them that come and go as they please (more coming than going). tried resetting it completely, tried the home/power button reset and got nothing :-( can anyone help me out? Brand new phone I want it to work right

Thanks to those of you who have responded. It is just frustrating because I absolutely love this phone. I just was shocked to see these ever changing colored vertical lines and sometimes just light grayish stripes throughout my screen. They come and go. Constantly changing, sometimes disappearing and then showing up again in a different app or simply when I pick up my phone after leaving it sit. The problem is where to start? I'm thinking straight to the nearest Apple Store on Monday morning.

  • Thin vertical lines on screen

    Hi,
I have a 3 year old G4 laptop. I now have 4 thin vertical lines appearing on my screen. The number of lines has slowly expanded in the last 4 months. I took my laptop to the genius bar and they told me that this is simply light pixels burning out and they could fix it but it would cost over $300.
Do all Mac computers have this problem after 3 years or so? Is there an alternate solution to the problem?
    Mike
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Michael,
Three years ... it varies. Besides BDAqua's suggestion, you might try looking for an Apple reseller, here's the link for that: Apple Retail and Resellers

  • Multi colored vertical lines on screen

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro 5,1 that has multi colored vertical lines going down the screen. I've looked at numerous posts that refer me to the "EM80 article" but they seem to be referring to the Imacs when referencing this article. I tried taking a screen shot to showcase the problem but the multi colored lines do not appear on the screenshot. Is any one else having this same problem? Is my lcd broken (I did not drop the computer), could there be a lose cable, is there a problem with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card? Thanks for the help.

The fact that the lines don't appear in a screenshot means it is a physical problem. Such as the lcd controller, backlight, etc. As long as you've got the latest firmware updates it's unlikely you'll find any fix other than apple repair.

  • Startup Freeze - Vertical Lines on Screen

    Hi -
Running 10.4.7 on a new Macbook - since a firmware update about two weeks ago, my macbook freezes on startup - no chime... just goes to gray screen and slowly develops vertical lines. I can restart by resetting the nvram and then everything is ok until the next restart - or wake-up from sleep if I'm only on the battery.
Apple has already replaced my battery once and that seems ok now... but this start up thing worries me.
Has anybody seen this or reported something similar to Apple? seems like it would be related to the firmware update... but they aren't saying if they're hearing it from anyone else.
    Thanks for your help
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi, Altoklez. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. You wrote: "Has anybody seen this or reported something similar to Apple"If they have, they would probably have reported it on the MacBook Discussions. Have you checked the MacBook Dicussion for similar reports?
    2. Run the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) that came the affected computer. See my "Apple Hardware Test" FAQ for comprehensive advice on using the AHT in troubleshooting.
    3. Frankly, given that the machine has already been repaired once, I'd have Apple look at it again. If there is an Apple Retail Store in your area, I'd recommend taking it there. You may wish to call ahead to make an appointment at the Genius Bar.
    Good luck!

  • Vertical lines on screen - Pavilion 14 NO43TU

I am using Pavilion 14 NO43TU and vertical lines are showing on my screen, continually increasing every startup. I bought it january this year and since i downgraded it to windows 7 i was told that it is not under warranty anymore. but this is a hardware issue and i believe downgrading it does not contribute for the problem. Anyone who could help me here? Thank you in advance.

    Hi there @yanabels
Welcome to the HP support Forums!
It is really frustrating when lines like that appear on the display, and I am happy to help with that.
First, you will want to be sure you have the correct drivers installed for your notebook and operating system. You can look at this page and be sure to select your version of Windows 7.

  • New 21.5" imac vertical line on screen

I just returned from my local Apple store after checking out the new imac computers. I noticed on many of the 21.5" imacs that there was a vertical line down the left side of the screen that looked like burn-in. It's about one and a quarter inches from the left side of the screen. It is clearly visible using any background color except white. Apple store employees and two Apple Geniuses had no idea what was causing it and hadn't noticed it themselves until I pointed it out to them. They said they would investigate. Has anyone else noticed this? It was on about half of the computers that I looked at in the store.

The link posted by Carolyn above is an old issue with G5 iMacs, which has nothing to do with this new issue. This new issue is apparently a fairly widespread manufacturing defect in the new 21.5" Silverback iMacs. I just bought one for my parents this week, and it unfortunately suffers from this same defect. A single pixel vertical line running from top to bottom, about 1.5" from the left side of the screen. On a light background the line is bluish, on a dark background, the line is red. Serious issue, I hope Apple gets on this one quickly.

  • Brand new iMac has hundreds of vertical lines on screen...?

I know from flipping thru the archives this is a common issue, but usually on older models - I just purchased and turned on my iMac for the first time today, and it worked fine for a couple hours before randomly acquiring a complete screenful of flickering, multicolored, vertical lines. I'm performing a hardware test as we speak (I'm posting from my four year old iBook, which ironically still works) but pending those results, what can I do? Am I going to have to exchange this brand new computer for a NEW new one?

I bought mine last week and it works flawlessly. If I were you I would not bother with any diagnostic tests and just return it to the store and get a brand new NEW iMac since you just purchased it today. If you bought it online then there's little bit more hassle that you have to go through but even if you can get the problem all fixed by yourself, I would just return it to apple. Good luck.
