Vertical lines - there for sure

I want to share my success of getting iMac, that was demoed for a while, before I became user and warranty time started ticking for me. Initially unhappy to discover, that unit was on display at some computer shop (via traces of activities), I am now extremely happy to be found in position to be covered by 12 months warranty, once famous vertical lines issue is there, as it should (same unfortunate serial number). Only weeks were left for this joy to happen.
On the other hand, I am posting this to encourage Apple looking at the essence of problem, and stop playing unaware - when the rest of the world knows issue very well, it would be surprising, that otherwise great company would behave like it does now. If we, Apple users, are goodwilled to slightly overpay for our gadgets, surely we do this with trust in Apple as decent manufacturer of reliable equipment. If manufacturing turns out to have defects (having that for particular serie is sure sign), we, users, and Apple are finding ourselves at crossroads: either our favorite company does right thing to protect our expectations, or we no longer expect equipment to be reliable, we though it should be.
If my PC screens are more robust, than those in Mac, and if there is nobody to stand on our side in such discoveries - well, you got idea.
Personally, I am happy to have warranty, as described. But it is only luck. One cannot expect be lucky all the time.
Apple, please address issue as needed, I want to be able buying your next product.

Perhaps it would be helpful to know, that my particular serial is of W8605xxxU2N range, what is exactly current wave of falling down screens - pity, do not see them in arranged program yet. For my warranty repair, I see LCD being awaited from supply chain, that must be defective part.
Really interesting, the serial of my 17” iMac is also W8605xxxU2N.

... I think this position is unnecessary: you have had your deal by exchanging money for goods. 100% of price? That should be enough.
It was not supposed, nor were you warned, that those goods will last you ONLY for warranty term. If some manufacturing defect leads to obvious state of serie of product HAVING this hidden "quality" - there is no need for you to imagine having 50% of Apple share to cover that accident. We know, and were happy, Apple does good, but being capable, it especially has something to obey. ...
Well, yes, that’s absolutely right, - theoretically. Practically, the situation is unfortunately in many cases not so logical. For example you truly find “iMac fanatics” on the web who effectively repair their Mac 100% on their own costs. Alternatively you find a lot “Apple follower” which simply buy a new Mac. How a person in such situation reacts, simply depends on the insensitivity of their “iMac-Apple correlation”. (Some person might prefer to be married to their iMac or Apple…)
Whatever as you, I have clear principles, - and so before buying a new Mac, or reparation fully on my own costs, I will shift to anti-Apple Dell Computer…. However if there might be a chance to alter Apple’s position in my case, I am in contrast to you absolutely willing to make some kind of a “balanced deal”….
At last a little recommendation, everyone who have one of these “cursed” iMac series (like early 2006) models within warranty, should conclude immediately an Apple Care Protection Plan.

  • How do I create a Vertical Line?

    Hello Forum,
I created a vertical line between the navigation and main content.  I made the right side of the “side panel” visible to create the line.
It works in IE, but if viewed in Firefox, there is a gap at the end of some of the pages. Is there a better way to place a vertical line there or is there a fix for Firefox?
Here is a link to the site: http://siennastaffing.com/coastpi/services.html
    Thanks,

Divs don't behave the same as table columns.  If you want to create the illusion of equal height columns with CSS, you will need to use a background image equal in width to your #container division and repeat-y.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • When i open my computer I get the white screen with apple symbol and there are vertical lines all over the screen with green pixels and after a few minutes the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer what happens

3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.
Can somebody advise me on this matter. Thanks in advance

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

Go to: *System Preferences > Displays* and select the Arrangement tab, then relocate your Menu bar by dragging it to the other display.
Unfortunately there is no Hardware or Software switch to turn off the iMac's Internal Display.

It could be a GPU issue, a display issue or a display connection issue.  The genius bar technician will offer you a definitive answer and should fix it under the warranty provisions.

I was a happy user of outlook express, but now I got a new PC with windows 8 which does not support OE.
I am a Thunderbird newbie and it is extremely strange and frustrating.
Why not to offer all possible choices, options, and settings to make it adaptable and easy for each user with particular needs or preferences?
I would gladly pay $50 or $100 instead of wasting 20 or 30 hours trying to find a way to bypass weird (to me) restrictions or missing settings.
If OE resolved the problems, it should be possible to resolve for Thunderbird creators too.
I am grateful anyway for the free app but I may need to waste even more days experimenting with other email clients.
Trying to solve the problems I found that other Thunderbird users have been looking for the same solutions on the internet for over 8 years or so!!!
Another huge problem of the TB is difficulty of getting a full HTML source, editing it and easily switching to text mode back and forth.
And finally why not make every piece of text in any spot of the entire TB copy-able (let us copy any words or text anywhere in the TB and then paste it to a message). For example I can set up and see all headers ( view ... headers..... all ) but I can not copy/paste them into the message from which they were removed (why?).
If Thunderbird creators ever read this, here is an offer or kind request. Pls create a better Thunderbird version with features and options given above, consult other users, search the Internet to accommodate a few wishes of many others. And offer a paid version of the Thunderbird. I think hundreds of thousands of unhappy users would buy a better mousetrap, or in this case, a better Thunderbird. The news will spread like a thunder all over ....

  • What is that medium dark blue vertical line doing there?

I went againt my grain and just hit the Return to Last Save in iWeb so now I have my old Welcome page but with no Counter. I adjusted the image a little bit, to improve the look, making sure that there were no blank white spaces at the top or the bottom of the scroll. All appears well. However:
QUESTION: What is that dark blue vertical line on the right edge of and within/inside the window? Sometimes when I was manipulating/moving the pink flower picture, that blue line would blink into view and then blink out. Should I care that that line is there and not sitting on top of the window edge -- that it is inside/within the window edge?
    Lorna in Southern California

It sounds like your object is centering with respect
to another object on your page.
    Will
Will, that seems odd to me, because all I have is that picture of the pink flower on that page. It is my Welcome page and there are is no nav bar at the top of the page because I deselected it in the Inspector thing.
So if you tell me that the line is centring with respect to another object......
then that is nettlesome because to my mind there is nothing else on the page except that picture which completely covers the page.
Oh wait. There is a skinny rectangular box with text inside: "Welcome to Lorna's Page. Enter" Something like that; I can't remember now because I've changed it several times.

  • There is a UNIX line command for Core audio RAM size addressing?

    I don't look for magician..
I know that there is terminal command for change setting about song backup count...
since Logic 8 the Project Backup has been fixed to 10...
I mentioned defaults in my first post. 'defaults' is the command line utility to set the maximum number of backups, and the key/value is clearly visible in the file, where I see no clearly identified key for the preference setting you seek.
so you can type 'man defaults' into terminal to read the manual for defaults.
Also in Logic 6 32bit application... and in Logic 7.2.3 (32bit application)
there is a setting that allow me to addressing 384Mb to the system core audio... and it is not a 64 bit apps.
    Memory addressing != Memory allocating
I'm looking for a Terminal command that can rewrite Logic preferences files... in the same way as made for change the Song Backups number...
Please stay focused I don't need theoretical explaination..
    I'm a Musician... I'm not a Developer...
BUT I Know.. for sure...I can adress 384Mb for core audio...
I need to bypass the automatic ram adressing only and strictly focused to achieve 384MB just for CORE AUDIO!!!
Right right right. I addressed that by typing:
you'd have insider info to use that utility for the intentions that you have in mind
If that preference exists, it is not public knowledge (to my knowledge). You would need to know a few things about the preference key/value to set or remove it.
So, yeah - my original post covered it all, to the best of my knowledge.

  • Fix for vertical lines and screen freeze on 2008 iMac after Yosemite upgrade?

Mavericks was running slow with iPhoto.  Did the Yosemite upgrade.  Vertical lines on screen before everything freezes except mouse.  Mouse continues to respond but nothing else, so forced to power off.  Tried a revert to Mavericks but that seemed to tick it off (made things worse).  Read 3 year old threads that graphics drivers may be at fault, but not sure how to remedy that.  Any ideas?

    Hi wokingmac,
If you are having an issue with your iMac display not responding appropriately, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Can i get my imac g5 that has vertical lines on it fixed for free as it is a fault???

can i get my imac g5 that has coloured vertical lines on it fixed for free as it is a manufacturing fault???
just asking cause it is really annoying
and also if it gets done for free do i need to under warrenty and apple care or can it get done without the warrenty as i looked it up and it said on mac rumors that it didn't have to be under warrenty.
    thanks heaps.

Well I said thank you Apple too soon I guess! It's been a week since I filled out the form for the free update/upgrade program, still haven't heard anything from them! They only responded that they received my request and gave me a reference number but the email address was a "no-reply" address so where am I supposed go on and check or ask or inquire with this number?
When I go to the original webpage given to apply for the program there is no section to check the status of my application! So again I wander where can I write to, to ask about the status of my application for the free update of my OS X Lion software?
Do I write to App Store or iTunes or Apple US or the Turkish reps? The store I bought it from doesnt know about this they say it's all done thru Apple?
I'm confused! Who should know and where did my application go to? Who receives these forms and who do I check in with? Does anybody know?
    Thank you.

  • Why is there a thin vertical line on the copy when I use the feeder?

There is a thin vertical line on copies when I use the feeder but not when I copy from the glass. The copier is new. Any ideas?

Hi Ccorning, When a vertical line (top to bottom) is produced only when using the feeder (ADF) of your laser product, the issue would actually be due to a small mark or debris on the scanning glass area that sits directly under the left panel cover of the ADF.  This occurs because as the paper feeds through the ADF and across the scanning area, every inch of the paper passes over the small mark which gets picked up by the scanner.  This then produces what looks like a line.  However, thorough cleaning can resolve the issue. You can clean the platen glass and the underside of the ADF by following the procedure below. 1.  Turn OFF the Main Power Switch and disconnect the power cord. 2.  Open the ADF. 3.  Clean the ADF scanning area on the left side of the platen glass and the same area on the lid (the area that would touch the scanning area when the lid is down) with a cloth dampened with water.  You will want to carefully and fully clean the glass in the ADF scanning area.  Look for scratches, tiny spots and marks of any sort.  If marks are noticed, you may have to clean the platen glass up to three times or more depending on what created the mark (i.e.. correction fluid, pen ink).  You can use a soft lint free cloth either dry, with glass cleaner or water to clean the glass and may have to scrub until it squeaks to remove certain types of marks.  NOTE: Please spray the cloth with the cleaning solution and not the glass.  Another way to ensure the mark is removed is to use a credit card by placing in on a angle and sliding it across the glass in one direction.  The plastic of the card will not scratch the glass.  You can then lift the credit card when reaching the end of the glass and return to the other side to slide it across again.  Then wipe the area with a soft, dry cloth. 4.  Close the ADF. 5.  Reconnect the power cord and turn ON the Main Power Switch. Caution:  Be careful not to get your fingers caught. After cleaning the glass, run 4-5 blank/clean pages through to test it.  If the thin black line still appears, please try cleaning the scanning area again as a mark on the glass is the only cause for this.  If the issue persists, there may be a scratch in the glass which would require service. If further assistance is needed, please feel free to Contact Us.

  • Single Vertical Line When Using ADF for Scan or Copy on HP Officejet Pro 8600

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium Printer (CN577A)
    OS: MS 7 64 bit
When using the ADF for my CN577A HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer, I get a single vertical line on the document that is produced. This occurs when copying or scanning, both in black and white, and in color. If I scan or copy using the glass, I don't get the vertical line.
I already tried the troubleshooting.  I unplugged the printer, left it without power for several minutes; that didn't correct the problem.  Next, I cleaned the rollers and the glass; I still get the vertical line, but only when using the ADF.
My firmware version used is current (CLP1CN1150CR).
    What should I check next?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The ADF uses its own glass area on the scanner bed, it is the narrow (about 1" wide) strip on the left.  Cleaning this area should resolve the issue.  A single small spot would cause the issue you are seeing.
