Vertical "Stipes" of Pixels over whole screen-cursor is 1 cm block

I've a 15" Ti PB--550 MHz. When started up in OSX-10.4.2 it comes on with a pattern of vertical whitened pixels and alternate darker coloured (about 1 cm wide) blocks of pixels over the whole screen. No icons appear and no menu. The cursor appears as a greyed out block of pixels about 1 cm square. The F10 key changes the pixel colour and pattern. When started up in "T" mode, all the Hard Disk icons are seen normally on another Mac and all files are intact. Is this a "wire" harness problem in the hinges; a wire cable connection to the Logic board ? The wires in the cable connection and hinge area look fine ...What sort of problem is causing this? Anyone have an idea ?

Dear dago,
Thanks much for your reply. Actually, my oper. system is 10.4.4 as well I think--I have not verified it lately of course because of my display screen problem as I've outlined and which you have confirmed as well as a problem. The problem , ie. the strips of alternating vertical coloured pixels and white, seem to run down the screen rather continuously; if I depress f8, f9 or f11 the pattern of the pixels changes but still is observed overall the screen. I see no file or program icons, no menu, no dock information, nothing other than these annoying "noise" pixels illuminated.
But, you say you see this pattern "at least once a week"..the pattern I see is constantly there. It is there the moment I boot up until I depress my power button to shut down. You also said it "might" be a logic board problem; perhaps it could also be due to the inverter board or some other problem circuit board, I have no idea really. I have checked my cable-board connections; all looks normal to me. If I set up in "T" mode, I can see all my icons and files normally on another Mac used to display my problem machine..
Please let me know if you discover something further on this..My machine is only in a state now where I must boot it up in "T" mode using another Mac to view my problem machine. It goes without saying I cannot work efficiently in this mode for long.
Let's hope at least one of us can come up with some answers to this. Thanks again for your interest and keep your remarks coming if you've time and energy.

  • When i open my computer I get the white screen with apple symbol and there are vertical lines all over the screen with green pixels and after a few minutes the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer what happens

3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.
Can somebody advise me on this matter. Thanks in advance

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • Satellite C600 - Cursor jumping all over the screen

I was just issued the Satellite C600 and I cannot type without my curser jumping all over the screen. I've followed the advice from other threads with no success. "FN+F9" does not disable the touchpad, and there is no touchpad tab under Mouse Properties. In fact, when I search the whole computer for "touchpad" there is no response.
    Please advise!

    Hello
Why you try to disable the touchpad?
On Satellite C series there is a BIOS update that will solve this cursor jumping issue. There are already a lot of threads here in forum:

  • I updated my iMac to 10.7.3 and about an hour later the screen began to flicker with a gray line on the upper side, and it also flicker green and red small pixel lines all over the screen, mainly green.

I updated my iMac to 10.7.3 and about an hour later the screen began to flicker with a gray line on the upper side, and it also flicker green and red small pixel lines all over the screen, mainly green. The computer froze with these pixels, so I shut it off and restarted it, and there were this green lines everywere. So I turned it off, and the next day I turned it on and it began to work just fine, but suddenly the same thing happened again, and when I restart the computer again there are these green and some red pixels everywere.
I've read 10.7.3 is giving people many problems, but I never saw that it gave one like this. How can I fix this, or what will Apple do to fix this problem they caused me with their update.
    Thanks

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

Sounds like a hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • On the new ipod touch, is there a way to enlarge album art to fill the whole screen?

    Hi there,
For Christmas I was given a new ipod touch (long story short my old one I put through the wash by mistake ) and this new one is great but when I listen to a song on the new itouch the album art does not fill the whole screen like my old itouch, this is a small detail I know but I loved that feature so much and I was hoping there was a setting I could activate/change which allows this on the new itouch.
At the moment on the new itouch the album art is small and centered towards the top of the screen while the function icons are below the image while on the last one the album art filled the whole screen and the function icons where over the picture at the bottom and didn't stand out as much as it does now.
I have drawn a very rough MSpaint diagram explaining what I mean lol.....
[i tried using the insert image feature but got a javascript error so using external site to upload pic]
    http://s28.postimg.org/aovrsuewt/itouch_something_like_this.jpg
Anyway my question is, is there a way to have the album art fill the whole screen with the new itouch?

Just sync them to the iPod. See:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
They will not go to the camera roll album but to a new album

  • New iTunes takes up my whole screen. How do I reduce the window size?

    Hi,
The newest version of iTunes is taking up my whole screen but I can no longer find the little red/green buttons to make it smaller. I can't even minimize it with Command-M.
I tried a force quit and restart of iTunes, but same thing.

    Thanks!

Thanks - moved the cursor all the way to the top, saw the little blue "shrink window" button in the top right.

  • All of a sudden my track pad doesn't work properly and mouse pointer is jumping all over my screen

Help, it feels like someone else is controlling my mouse.  This just started happening.  My trackpad doesn't work or works sporadically.  While typing the pointer is scrolling all over my screen.  This is really annoying.

Great tip! Your suggestion to check for a swollen battery in my laptop is working for me. You should get credit for solving the problem.
On my MacBook Pro (2008), my cursor was out-of-control for the past couple of days, like it was having a sissy-fit. In TextEdit, for example, I would enter text, but the text would no longer be entered smoothly, in sync with my typing. Nor would the text appear where I wanted it go. Sometimes, the text I was typing, say in the last line of the document, would jump and insert itself somewhere above in the document. Sometimes, entire lines of text, or entire paragraphs, would get highlighted and then immediately deleted upon my hitting the next keystroke. Not an acceptable way to work!
I tested this odd behavior in Leopard and in Snow Leopard and in Lion, which are all partitioned on my laptop's hard drive. Since I could not isolate the problem to any one version of the Mac OS, I began to fear that my motherboard had gotten compromised and went defective on me.
Your tip proved that it was merely a swollen battery that was the cause of my problems. I was able to confirm this by removing the original battery (now 4 years old) and placing it on a hard surface. It rocked like a see-saw, ever so slightly, about 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch at the far sides of the rocking motion. When I looked at that original, swollen battery from the side, I got further indication that your insight was likely correct, for I could spy the area where the swelling was occurring: it was at an edge in the middle of the battery, and it was separating from the base by about 1/16-inch, just enough to make me wonder why the "springiness" had suddenly disappeared from the central portion of my trackpad.
That change in the touch and the lack of aural feedback (i.e. no "click" sound or feeling) when I depressed the trackpad in the central section, was my first clue that something was wrong. The crazy cursor behavior on-screen was further indication that something was amiss.
I type this reply under A/C power, as the replacement battery, which I had purchased from Other World Computing back in September 2011 for just such an eventuality, is now charging. At first, I was worried that the replacement battery was a dud, for it was stuck on 0% for nearly 10-15 minutes before it began to take a charge. But, 30 minutes of paience has paid off: the replacement battery is now at 15% and getting more powerful by the minute.

The mouse is controlled by the OS so don't guess any app other than a mouse driver or OS X itself would be able to cause this sort of flicker issue.
Have you seen the following and is it what you are seeing? Maybe you could make a movie (Quicktime is great for this this to make a screen recording) - but not sure how to attach a movie to these discussions as mine is grayed out and can't be selected (to the right of the insert image). Here is the what I found for a search of "mouse cursor flickers os x yosemite"

What kind of mouse are you using? Is the mouse driver up to date if it's a third party mouse?
