Vertical text in cell

I need to put text vertically in a cell. Any suggestions please?

In cell B2 I inserted 1234567890 and defined the cell format to text
In cell C2 I inserted azerty
In cell D2 I inserted the formula =B*2
You may see that even if a cell contains a number, we may display its content vertically.
Using a mono_spaced font would give a better result with text .

  • Vertical text in a cell with iWorks '08

    Hello again guys, I looked for an answer and I didn't found it. Maybe there are no answer yet... Is in Numbers (iWorks '08) the option to write in vertical inside a cell? I can't see it.
    Thanks again.

    Insert a line break after each character by pressing Control + Return
    The cell can be as wide or tall as required and the text can also be aligned using the normal alignment tools
    This is also useful for controlling Wrap within a cell

  • Vertical text in a cell

    Does anyone know how to make the text vertical in a cell?
    Thanks

    Hello
    - 1 - English is not my native language so I wonder if you wrote lol about some mistakes or about technical terms.
    - 2 - Here is the announced script
    --[SCRIPT]
    property charList : {}
    set txtDatas to the clipboard
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ""
    set my charList to every text item of txtDatas
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ASCII character (11)
    set txtDatas to my charList as text
    if txtDatas contains return then set txtDatas to my cleaner(txtDatas, return)
    if txtDatas contains tab then set txtDatas to my cleaner(txtDatas, tab)
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ""
    set my charList to {}
    set the clipboard to txtDatas
    on cleaner(t, d)
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to (ASCII character (11)) & d & (ASCII character (11))
    set my charList to every text item of t
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to d
    return (my charList as text)
    end cleaner
    --[/SCRIPT]
    Save it as an Application and store it in:
    yourStartupDisk:Users:yourAccount:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    maybe you will have to create the Numbers folder and even the Applications one
    Select one or several cells
    copy to clipbboard (cmd + C)
    execute the script from the scripts menu
    paste where you want (cmd + V)

  • How do I add vertical text in a cell

    How can I add vertical text within a cell. In Ecel it is easy as pie but I can't seem to find a quick fix in "numbers"?

    Rotation of text in a table cell is not supported in Numbers.
    The most often recommended workarouns is to use a floating text box. Rotate the box 90° (or other desired value), make sure that Wrap is set to 'none', then place the text box in front of the cell.
    For other suggestions, see some of the posts in the "more like this" list to the right.
    Step 2 is to make a request to Apple that this feature be added. Go to the Numbers menu in Numbers, choose Provide Numbers Feedback (or use the link), make your request that this feature be added to future versions of Numbers.

  • Weird problem with vertical text in a table

    Hello,
    I am new on this forum, usually I don't post because I always find the answer to my question, but this is something quite weird...
    I have a table with vertical text in it (it has to be vertical because the cells are narrow). And I want it to be centered in the cell, both vertically and horizontally. When the cell is high enough, no problem. But as it becomes shorter, the text moves to the left. It is exactly as if there was a right margin within the cell, which is not the case.
    See the example below : I had the text right-aligned (this is to say, bottom-aligned, as it is 270° rotated) to make it more visible.
    Can someone help me there ? I already spent hours on that problem..!
    Thank you very much !

    Only, my table contents both vertical and horizontal text, so I can't. But thanks for the suggestion.
    Thank you kindly for all your answers. Anyway, re-writing the text in separate frames won't be so difficult (anyway it'll always take less time than what that problem already did..).
    So I have a solution, thanks to Phorna
    But remains the frustration of not finding the reason of this ! I will live along with it
    Thanks to all

  • Vertical text direction / orientation in tables. (RoboHelp 7 and/or 8)

    Hello all,
    I need to squeeze a fairly full table (lots of columns) into a printable page width.
    In order to do this, I need to put text into some of the cells so that they read vertically. I can do this in MS Word tables (menu > Format > Text Direction) and need an equivalent in RH. Preferably RH7, (but can import into RH8 if I must ).
    Any ideas anyone?

    Hi Philip
    My guess is that you can probably fudge it using CSS. But it won't be something RoboHelp will assist with in any way.
    Check the link below for one hit I found. Use Google searching for vertical text in HTML to find others.

  • How to make Vertical Text start furom left to right?

    Sometimes some customers must be vertical text from left to right
    This is mainly for Asian fonts
    Whether it can be achieved with script,Or are there other methods?
    Thank you~

    @喜狼_edny – hm. Possible, but the result is somehow unsatisfactory.
    See for yourself.
    We could start with some text right aligned in a table with just one single cell:
    We could rotate the cell to 270° like that:
    Code:
    var myCell = app.selection[0].tables[0].cells[0];
    myCell.rotationAngle = 270;
    And now we need the text direction from right to left and all characters rotated to 180°:
    Code:
    var myCell = app.selection[0].tables[0].cells[0];
    myCell.rotationAngle = 270;
    myProperties = {
        composer : "$ID/HL Composer Optyca",
        characterDirection : CharacterDirectionOptions.RIGHT_TO_LEFT_DIRECTION,
        paragraphDirection : ParagraphDirectionOptions.RIGHT_TO_LEFT_DIRECTION,
        characterRotation : 180
    myCell.texts[0].properties = myProperties;
    Result:
    Ugh! Not exactly the result we expected…
    (Tested with InDesign CS5.5 on OSX 10.6.8)
    It's the characterRotation that is not working as expected.

  • How to type vertical text

    In numbers, I've merged cells vertically in hopes of typing a word vertically but I can't figure out how to do it.  It's probably an easy process but I can't figure it out. Thanks for the help.

    Hi Tyson,
    Here are some examples.
    A1 contains vertical text. It can be created by making the column narrow enough to accept only a single character width, selecting the cell, and checking the Wrap checkbox in the Format bar. An alternate method that;s more trouble, but also more reliable is to insert a return character after each letter (including one on the empty line between words). Press option-return to insert a return into a cell. (Hint: Enter the first letter, then enter an option-return for each letter and space you want in the cell. Then go back and enter the letters, pressing the down arrow after each to go to the next line.)
    Numbers does not support rotated text in table cells. Cells B1, C1 and D1 are empty. The rotated text is placed in three text boxes, one for each cell. These are rotated (90° for B1, 75° for each of the others), then placed in front of the appropriate cell.
    E1 contains wrapped text. The wrapping in this case is determined by the width of the cell and the text itself, but you can also control what appears on each line by using returns (option-return) within the text. The vertical alignment button on the Format bar was also used here to vertically center the text in the cell.
    Regarding "I've merged cells vertically...," I'd recommend against merging cells where you can avoid it. Merging cells vertically or horizontally has consequences with sorting the table (and I think, other issues as well). Best to leave it undone until the issues are sorted out.

  • Can you write vertically in the cell of a table, can you write vertically in the cell of a table

    can you write vertically in the cell of a table, can you write vertical

    If you don't understand that my response was a smiling echo of the stammering question I really can't help you.
    I guess that my 36725 points prove that I may be helpful. It seems that at this time you don't really know what are helpful answers.
    Using spreadsheets since more than twenty years, I know that storing something in an auxiliary object floating upon a cell isn't a serious workaround to the asked question. We may be sure that more or less soon, the object will no longer be were it was supposed to be.
    At this time, if we want to put a vertical text in a cell it's safer to insert a character, a linefeed, a character, a linefeed … which, one more time is echoing the stammering question.

  • Problem with vertical text in crystal report viewer

    Hi,
    I am displaying vertical text in crystal report designer and deploying the report in crystal reports server 2008. The deployed report is being displayed using JAVA in crystal report viewer control.
    Problem: Vertical text header  is getting collapsed wth other vertical headers.
    Please help on this.
    Thanks,

    Hi Vijay,
    I found out another method of retaining all the chart formatting that is done in the preview pane.
    Once you have done all the changes then you will find interestingly there is a chart menu option that appears in the tool bar. Once you click on it there is an option "Apply Changes to All Charts".
    Select that option, close your preview. Open it once again and you will find that all the settings are still there and the Web Viewer is able to display them properly.
    I think that I resolved this.

  • Cannot Align text in cell

    Greetings,
    I am having issues when trying to format my spreadsheet.  First of all, I have "Wrap Text in Cell" option turned on.  So when I have text that can fit into the cell, its fine.  But when I have long text in the cell, it wraps the text in the cell so it can fit inside, which I'm fine with.... but for some reason, it is not aligning it in the cell properly, so now part of the text it cut off.  I try to center align the text, but no use. I hit the button for "Align text in the middle of the table cell", and still does not align the text so that its centered, not cut off. I have included an image of what im talking about. Help please?
