Vertical yellow lines on MBP on white background after screen idle

After letting my MBP idle and the screen idle kicking in the display comes back with yellow lines but only on white background windows. See a screenshot here:
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n94/lelio_2006/photo.jpg
if the background is anything but white the lines do not appear. The lines are always vertical and they are one pixel wide (the white part is one pixel wide as well).
Taking a screen capture does not show these lines so I'm not sure if it is a problem with the video card but rather the display. After closing the lid and reopening the lines go away.
I have a GeForce 8600M GT that is mentioned in the tech support document. Is this related to that issue?

Still doesn't work after Apple repair.
Took my MBP into the Apple store, they plugged in a device to check it and said that it was broken. He took it in back and came out 5 minutes later and said that they need to ship it in and that I should back everyting up. I took it home to do so.
And then it WOULDNT BOOT. I ran fsck and it said that there were problems. Went back to the Apple store and a very helpful new person ran Disk Warrior and couldn't fix it. Said that I could give him my hard drive and he'll back it up and send it in for repairs. He definately went above the call of duty to help me out.
Got it back 5 days later and restored, that went amazingly smoothly. However I still have the same problem of yellow vertical lines after a system idle / shutdown. I'm not sure what they checked after replacing the logic board but it doesn't appear to have been fixed.
Does the logic board include the video card?

  • I have a vertical yellow line down the centre of my iMac g5, is there any way to fix this issue?

Hi, I've seen a few other forum discusions on this issue, and it seems to have been a recurring problem, I'm wondering if Apple have a software patch available for this issue.  Its a vertical yellow line that runs from the top to the bottom of the monitor, other people have spoken about how multiple lines can start appearing once the problem has begun, so I'm concerned that this is going to degenerate.  I recently upgraded the OS to Snow Leopard, so I'm wondering is it possible that this may have been one of the issues that people have come across when updating the OS.

How is it connected?  Have you tried different port?  How about logging in as a different user then trying to mount the drive.

  • I developed a vertical yellow line on my mid 2011 iMac - anyone else have this issue.

My iMac developed a vertical yellow line on the left side of the display. Any easy way to tell if it is a logic board or ?. Anyone have idea of cost to repair or if this is a known issue? I have 2 older iMacs that have great displays with no issues. Screen shot shows the line.

A screen shot is 100% software. If memory serves me to get one its Shift Command F3. The use the forums tool for integrating into your post.
Have you run Apple Hardware Test in Extended mode? If not do it 3x back to back. If an error code appears take that with you on your visit to the Apple Store or AASP. Apple does not publish these codes only the store or AASP can accurately translate.
Good luck and By the way next time get Apple Care, small investment but huge return on issues like this.

  • Mac Pro with vertical yellow line on Monitor

I have a Mac Pro with a large monitor. The monitor has worked fine for many years. It now has a yellow vertical line that runs top to bottom. The line are dead center on the screen. Is there any way to get rid of the yellow line?

Double check (shut down, disconnect, reconnect and restart) your connections at the computer and at the monitor.
    Impovement?
Boot to Safe mode (hold Shift while starting).
    Do the lines occur then?

  • It appears a yellow line of pixels on my iPad mini screen

One day I take my iPad mini and saw a yellow pixel line on the screen, I used the iPad for an hour (more or less), and the line disappeared, but then (2 hours) it appeared again. In this moment the line appears and disappears for a while. I restarted and restored my iPad, also I used this videos used to repair dead pixels, but the line stay the same.
Someone now what could happen?, I have never dropped my iPad.
Can I do something to repair my iPad?.
    Thanks.

    Hey henaog,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with the display of your iPad mini. From the information you have provided, it sounds like this may or may not be a pixel anomaly.

If you are concerned about pixel anomalies on your display, take your Apple product to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for closer examination. There may be a charge for the evaluation.

  • Time Machine white background after installing Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I need bit of advise regarding Snow Leopard Upgrade. I recently upgrade mac 10.5 to 10.6 (Snow Leopard), when I do my normal backup using Time Machine, the background is white. I have restarted my Macbook and also read some of the Mac Forums. I've even followed the steps read in one of the post.
If Barry's suggestion doesn't work, try these:
Do a Repair Disk (not permissions) on your TM drive, via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
Re-select your TM drive via TM Preferences > Change Disk.
If you're using Spaces, try disabling it, at least temporarily.
If you have any sort of video out cable, especially HDMI, try disconnecting it, at least temporarily.
Do a "complete reset" of TM, as in item #B3 Time Machine - Troubleshooting User Tip
However that doesn't work either. Could it be a bug or if there's something I should do to bring time machine back to normal? I like the warp !!!! Thank you

Hi, and welcome to the forums. That was me.
Since then, we've learned that this can be caused by a corrupted Finder preference file, so delete the file:
    +*<your home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Finder.plist+*
and try again. You'll have to Restart the Finder (use the Force-Quit) menu, and re-enter it's preferences.

  • IMac 21.5" boots to white screen with vertical blue lines/bars then locks up

iMac 21.5" (mid 2010) Intel Core i3 4GB RAM with Radeon HD 4670 boots to white screen with vertical blue lines/bars:
Then it locks up after a few minutes, at which point the screen changes to white with these blue symbol things all over the screen:
If boot to Safe Mode, it still has the white screen with blue lines/bars, but eventually loads the login screen and I can successfully login and get to the desktop, but even that has the bars/lines.
Eventually, after enough restarts or hard shutdowns it will boot normally with no video/display issues. I've run disk checks, did the SMC and PRAM resets, checked logs (that I know of), and have even taken it completely apart, cleaned it out, reseated everything, put it all back together, but no change. I've read a few other posts about similar issues (but not quite the same video issue as this) where people had the logic boars replaced or reinstalled OSX, but that didn't always fix it. Any ideas? Has anyone seen this issue before? Thank you.

    Is this a dead disk?
    Very well could be.
If you can not startup from the Hardware Test, in Safe Mode or from > OS X Recovery  as discribed in the Support article's.
Dig out the original Install Disc set that came with the iMac and do one of the following.
    1. Attempt to Repair the Hard Drive.
Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Mac OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
    2. Run the Hardware Test from the second Install Disc.
        1. Insert Disc 2 and Startup holding the D key.
        2. Select the Extended Hardware Test.
Then if you still can not get anything going, you need to contact your Local Apple Store or AASP and make a Service appointment.

  • Vertical green line on Qosmio's G20 LCD Screen

    (Sorry for my bad English)
    Hi all,
    my laptop have a vertical green line on the right side of the screen.this line is visible in BIOS screen also. so i think it is a hardware related issue.but one good thing is that it is not visible in a white background.i don't know why;
Is there any thing i can do other than replacing the screen(i don't have any warranty on the LAPTOP :( )
The problem occurred after installing windows 7 beta edition,it changed my resolution to 1400 * 900 and i think which may cause an overheat on graphics card which may lead to my problem.
    Please help me.

    > Is there any thing i can do other than replacing the screen (i don't have any warranty on the LAPTOP )
I would not replace the screen before you would not know whats exactly wrong.
I mean there could be also a graphic card issue and not screen issue.
In your case I would recommend connecting the machine to the external monitor to check if the same vertical line would appears on a second monitor.
If the same lines are visible on both screens then its definitely not a screen issue but GPU issue and in such case the mobo must be replaced :(

  • Strange yellow lines

I have a couple of imported music clips on different tracks. Now something's happening that I haven't seen before: Although I have snap to grid turned off, when I move the regions, vertical yellow lines appear in the timeline (I think it's the left or right boundaries of other clips on different tracks), and they snap to them. I can't move them to where I want them, that drives me crazy!

Thanks - I'd never seen them!
(Now I know what I did: Was trying several combinations of modifier keys and "G" to turn orange to purple, I keep forgetting the right combination - and I must have hit Apple-Shift-G which turns the guides on ... )

  • Yellow line on Imac

I have an IMAC 2006 that was working fine until I installed new software which was Snow Leopard a couple of months ago. Now I have a dotted yellow line running down the side of my screen. I call the 800 for apple and are told they can't help me because my comuter is to old!? So I call an apple store and they can't help because my computer is to old!? So where do I go now? It seems all APPLE is really concerned with is what they can sell you, not helping you fix what you already have this is the worst customer service ever!! I really don't think I would by another apple product based soley on their customer service! I mean I bought a computer that was over $1300 and now that it's too old no one can help me?? Does anyone at APPLE now anything about comuters more than 3 years old?!!

  • Iphone 4s has yellow line on the left of the screen in camera app

Well basically as the title says. I bought my iphone 4s on Friday, came home and turned it on. Went through all the steps to get it up and going. Decided to test out the camera and it had a bunch of multi colored lines running across the screen. Decided to take it back to the sprint store, by that time(about 15 minutes) they were gone and the lead tech said it was probably just booting still but 15 minutes seemed excessive. Got home camera was fine but now I have a giant yellow line running down the left of my screen. I've tried cleaning the camera and screen so I'm assuming it is a problem with an internal lense. Would it be best just to take it back and get an new one or take it to apple and let them service it. Sprint is a lot closer then apple and Ill get a brand new phone right there and not have to wait.  The bottom is really the left side of my camera/screen
Also I'm not exactly sure why all my pictures rotate when I sync them with my computer:

I have literally had the exact same problem with my AT&T iphone! It's so irritating because the camera is one of the main features of the 4S. I am going to get a new one from the Apple Store I think.

  • White background appears "gray" after export

Hello, I have created a short video with a white background (title screen) and no matter what compression settings I use to export the file to Quicktime, I always have the same problem -- the white background appears gray in the final video (with the exception of the uncompressed YUV422 setting).
Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks!

  • Vertical coloured lines on screen

Vertical coloured lines recently appeared - most stayed permanently - on screen. On-line research tells me that models with serial numbers W8....have this problem now. Mac retailers here say they have never heard of this. Solutions? Suggestions please.

Read the last twenty or so comments and then follow the directions from others to call Apple Care to see if your iMac qualifies for the program for Apple to replace the display out-of-warranty. This mostly applies to Early 2006 iMacs Core Duos.
