Very bad microphone quality with LCCS on Android

Hello,
I have created two applications with LCCS (audio and video conferencing), one for Windows and one for Android devices.
From my PC, all work very well. When I speak with my desktop microphone, the sound delivered to my phone is good.
But, when I speak with my phone, the sound delivered to my PC is very bad.
Maybe LCCS doesn't configure mobile microphone correctly ?
By the way, on mobile Microphone.getEnhancedMicrophone returns null and falls back to getMicrophone instead.
Any idea ?

OK I found that SPEEX codec result on Android (and maybe on iOS) is very bad when streamed. If I use instead the old NELLYMOSER codec, the result seems to be correct. Not fantastic, but correct.
I thought that SPEEX codec was fully supported and very good on Android... Am I wrong ?
Is there somebody here who try to use SPEEX codec on mobile ?

  • 10.6.2: Bad image quality with SIPS

I used to convert my PDF documents with SIPS like this:
    /usr/bin/sips --setProperty format jpeg --setProperty formatOptions high -z 400 200 sourcefilename.pdf --out targetfilename.jpg
This results in a very bad image quality after updating to 10.6.2 (the text contained in the source pdf file is nearly unreadable in the resulting image, especially when using the -z attribute for downsizing).
I could reconstruct this behaviour with several machines today: when using 10.6.1 the quality is fine, but after the update to 10.6.2 the resulting image quality is unacceptable.
Any ideas? Or could this be a bug? The man page for sips does not contain any information about new parameters and the image quality for other target formats (tif, png, ...) seems to be ok.

That picture looks like it was taken in a dimly lit room.
You could try using night mode but you will need a very steady hand.
Most basic phone cameras just cannot produce good pictures indoors when not in brightly lit areas.  LED flashes just cannot do a good enough job when compared to real cameras.
Megapixels don't equal quality, it's the lens and flash that make the biggest difference.

  • GT680 - Very poor microphone quality [sample included]

Ever since I purchased the MSI GT680R-008US, I noticed that the microphone quality was VERY poor. Here's a small sample that I recorded. I was right next to the microphone at the time: http://www.zshare.net/audio/898240503bc24764/
I've tried playing around with every possible setting, but couldn't find anything to help it (or anything at all, for that matter).
Is the microphone really naturally this crappy?

    Hi igardner
You could try the marked solutions in this link, it could possibly be the same issue as the one in W520.

By the way, does your speaker produce whine / high pitch sound during skype or any sort of conference call?
    Happy 2012!

  • Bad video quality with AMS and Citrix

Some clients connects to our network with vpn Citrix and get the screen presentet from Citrix.
The video quality is bad, choppy and sound out of sync.
Is it possible to set a specific quality for clients connecting with Citrix in AMS?
Do you have a best practice when using Citrix.
    /Anders

    Hi Drago
It is very bad situation. Toshiba with every notebook must offer functioning product and because of that offer tested drivers. Those drivers are adapted for each notebook model and also have protecting function. That means the graphic card will not be forced to run on the highest level.
As you can see with original driver you have problems playing some games. For me it is nothing unusual for mobile computers. Problem is that every modified driver is not supported and tested by notebook manufacturer. I recommend you to use tested Toshiba driver. At the end maybe you must make compromise between gaming and watching movies.
By the way: are original DVD movies also so bad while you use preinstalled WinDVD?

  • E430 Fix bad sound quality with Win 7 + Dolby Advanced Audio

Problem:  In Windows 7 x64, sound quality is tinny and sounds very badly DSPed when Dolby Advanced Audio is activated.  Even setting all effects off and EQ off the sound is bad simply because Dolby is/was turned on.  Going to Sound > Playback > Speakers > Properties > Enhancements, checking Disable All Enhancements and clicking Apply clears up the sound, but then the EQ won't have any effect.
Solution:  If you have Win 7 x64, uninstall the Win 7 driver (h0a114ww.exe) and instead install the Windows 8 driver (h0ac10ww.exe).  Note that this is NOT the Win 8.1 driver - that won't install under Win 7.  The sound quality will be way better when you use Dobly EQ and effects.  So far I haven't had any stability problems.
I thought my E430 had the worst sound card ever until I upgraded to Windows 8 and installed the new driver.  I have Windows 7 dual booted and found the sound quality in Win 7 terrible so I played around with it and found the above solution.
    Solved!

After ati driver uninstall - when card is running with default MS driver, is black as black and picture is very good. See comparison here: http://www.igorweb.org/matestudio/others/porovnanie_black_EN.jpg

use latest drivers provided by Ati.
    also check Ati CCC settings.
    what OS you are running?
    OS: Vista Ultimate 32bit
I've used 3 latest drivers from ATI - the same result.
Ati CCC settings are default (factory settings)
I didn't remember this problem with XPs. Just Vista.

  • Very bad audio quality through Thunderbolt/HDMI

The last year or so I had been using a Windows 7 laptop, connected to my HDTV as an extra display through an auxilary cable for the audio and a VGA for the video, then I plugged in another cable to the headphone socket on the TV which ran into my 2 channel stereoand the quality of the audio and video was always excellent. I recently got a MacBook Pro 13" (mid-2012), it's the best thing ever. I'm doing good with learning all the tips and tricks for Mac, but there is one problem I can't fix. I bought a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable, and plugged it into the MacBook to the TV, and the video is outstanding, but the audio is completely opposite. It is absolutely terrible. The mid frequencies sound alright-ish, but the high treble and bassy frequencies are just really, really bad.
Through headphones or even out the in-built speakers, everything sounds better.
I've tried it on multiple TV's so it not the TV, it must be something to do with the output settings or the cable.
I don't feel like buying another cable yet, so I want to see if anything else works first.
    Any ideas?

    CJBaily14,
I would think it is the cable or adapter, but things you can check into are system preferences>sound, output tab and make sure your TV is selected in the side bar. Another is Applications>utilities>Audio MIDI set up, open that and click the output tab, select HDMI from the side bar on the left and try changing the rates and see if that does anything. If this does it with other TV's and you were using the sme cable/adapter, especially if the HDMI cable is old it might not have the spec for audio as all HDMI cables are not created equal.
You could also try a PRAM reset, power down, power back up holding the following keys: COMMAND+OPTION+P+R  continue to hold these kys till you hear the start chime 2 times then release.
If you search the web for VESA specs you will find plenty of info. You can also check with Apple store for suff that is compatible.

  • Media Encoder - very bad resizing quality

The problem is when i want to resize HD video from it's original size 1440x1080 50i (16x9) to DV PAL 720x576 (4x3) 50i to the full frame size (without black borders) using crop - the video quality even in preview looks really bad. The whole image gets blurry and kinda "half resolution" looking.
    I think it's a bug of media encoder 4.0.1
This is really annoyingg cause we're filming using XDCAM and clients often want to get material in DV PAL. Any solutions?
The same thing done and rendered natively in After Effects looks fine

Try importing the clips into Premiere and resizing them manually in the timeline. Then send those off to Media Encoder. Make sure you select "Maximize Render Quality" from the sequence settings or use "Maximum Render Quality" in your export settings.
There was a similar issue with CS3 when "Scale to Frame Size" was selected on a clip. The resulting video was softer using this feature compared to resizing the clip manually.

I understand that your HP Envy 15 K239TX Touchsmart Notebook is running slow.  So I understand fully I just have a couple of questions for you.  1. Is it your Notebook itself that is slow, or is it when you are browsing online?2. Have you updated any of the drivers? In the meantime, I have a document for you called Resolving Slow System Performance (Windows 8).  Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps in the document and re-post with the information to the questions above. Thank you! Have a great day!

  • Poor microphone quality with Turtle Beach PX5 headset over Bluetooth and Ventrilo

I'm having a problem where I cannot seem to get good microphone audio out of my Turtle Beach PX5 Bluetooth headset when using my iMac and Ventrilo under OS X Snow Leopard.
In my testing, Skype test calls seem to be ok, but I'm told by those listening to me on Ventrilo that my voice has a distinctly distored sound, as if I'm swallowing the microphone or the sound is highly digitized. For comparison, I've been using a USB-based Polycom CX300 speakerphone that listeners have said sounds great.
I've also noticed that I cannot get the audio input level of headset to register more than about 50% on the meter, despite having the level slider set to maximum.
It's difficult for me to tell if it's the headset, Bluetooth on the Mac, Ventrilo or some other odd combination. I'm going to try passing the devices through to Windows 7 on Parallels and test Ventrilo from there to see if there's any difference.
Any suggestions from folks better versed on the Mac than I am would be greatly appreciated.

I can add a data point: this is the same thing that happens with the Harmon Kardon BT headphones--which, amazingly, just started working today for some reason I don't understand. It's almost as if the bi-directional audio requires a different profile to acommodate the bidirectional nature of the audio.
    More research may be required.

  • Brand new E7-00, wity *very* bad image quality

Yes I did remove the protective film from the camera cover.
And Yes, I deed clean the glass in front of the camera.
But the 8M camera produces images worse than a 0.1 megapixel webcam!
Is this normal? Anything I can do?

I haven't touched any of the settings so they all are default values, but I'll list the current setting here anyway:
(my phone switched to Dutch language, and I don't know how to revert it to EN, so I'll try to translate the entries here)
    ColorTone: Normal
    WhiteBalance: Automatic
    Lightening: 0
    ISO_A: Automatic
Contrast: shows slider in the middle of range
    Sharpness: Normal
    Settings:
      Imagequality: 6M - 16:9
      Record Location: Yes
      Show recorded images: Yes
ImageTone (??): Camera1 (I now tried camera1..Camera4, they all look similar)
      Use memory: E:MassStorage
And when the camera is active, the information bar on the bottom of the screen shows the flash is set to "A", to the right of that is again an "A" (I suppose the picture type setting).
So as far as I know, everything is set to "Automatic", "normal", or "middle of range".
Also, I don't see a "**bleep** up image quality really bad" option, so whatever the other settings, I wouldn't expect images to be this vague...
    Any recommendations?

  • Very low microphone levels with soundblaster live

Im trying to do some digital recording and my microphone levels are very low even when I have the microphone levels at maximum. Ive done all the windows xp trouble shooting but to no avail. I have tried two different microphones, both work well through amplifiers. Any suggestions?

Well, Im not sure. I open up the windows playback controls and then go to record control and I have the microphone bar at maximum. But by asking if it I have it up to 20 db I wonder if Im in the right control area because there are no units on this control bar. Am I in the right control panel?
On Windows Play/Recording Controls the Mic +20dB boost option can be found behind the "Advanced" -button (below Mic level slider). On CT Surround Mixer it's behind the 'tiny red + sign', above the Microphone slider.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 very bad YouTube quality.

    Hello,
Before asking me to look further on google because there may be my answer, i say that i've searched/posted/asked everywhere i could.
I use fraps to record some in-game footages, the file bitrates are huge 500-900M, i then render them in premiere pro as i need to add an intro/ending and then i upload them (or i'm hardly trying to) on youtube.
The thing is I've used every setting I could ever find, contacted youtube users who managed to do it right, but after I upload the video on youtube, the quality is absolutely horrible.
Right after i render i check the video, the quality is perfect, after that I upload it to youtube and after processing the video, it looks like it has 1M bitrate, laggy.
Can anyone please help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks!
    RAW clip bitrate: 500-900M
Render settings from Premiere Pro CS6:
    Format: H264
    Resolution: 1280x720
    Frames per second: 30
    Field Order: Progressive
    Aspect: Square Pixels (1.0)
    TV Standard: NTSC
    Profile: High
    Level: 5.1
    Render at Maximum depth: Checked
    Bitrate settings:
    Encoding: VBR, 2 pass
    Maximum bitrate: 20M
    Minimum bitrate: 20M
(Tried with smaller bitrates too, like 8/10/15, the output file wasnt so clear but youtube would still kill it)

OK. Here is what I have done.
I took took your crisp video of game play and dropped it on the New Item button to create a sequence. I checked the sequence and saw that the video was 1280X720 using 30 frames per second. Not 29.97, but 30. That could be relevant.
Then I took this screen shot of the video playing in Windows Media Player and in the Program Monitor of Premiere Pro. I see some degradation even at 30Mb/s which suprised me to be honest with you.  I read through the YouTube help and they recommed 30Mb/s for 720p so I exported at 30Mb/s.
The easiest place to spot the degradation is in the space above the letter E (before the CK) in the upper left of the frame. Some of the texture is missing. Not much. It is ever so much softer. But I don't believe that it will prove to be relevant.
So, now it is time to upload to YouTube and see what happens.
Darn, I have no way to play the YouTube video at exactly 1280X720. I just have full screen and the larger box.  Is there a way to do that? Other than setting my monitor for 720p or playing it on an old HDTV?
Oh well, here it is. Reasonably clean going in. How about coming out? Not so much. I am not happy with it. I am going to try again using CBR just for the heck of it. Crud. That didn't help. See for yourself.
I am stumped. Somebody with the capability to see it at the exact size speak up please. How is it done. (I use Chrome.)
Edit: I found a YouTube resizer that sets the medium box bigger - to 1280X720. I knew it had to be possible. But I am certainly not happy with the changes YouTube makes to a 30Mb/s file.
I am off to go try Vimeo.
    Edit:
I am not happy with this either.
There is something about this video that makes it difficult for them to encode it. I have no idea what it might be. Perhaps the more technical among us can provide answers. It is not horrible, and it is better than 480p, but it isn't great.

Hi luca-ben, welcome to the community!
Try clearing the data for SmartConnect on your device, just go into Settings > Apps > All > scroll down to SmartConnect and tap it > tap Clear data. You can also un-pair & re-pair the devices again to see if that helps, otherwise try contacting Philips to see whether they have any troubleshooting ideas. Keep us updated
