Very Basic: Can I install OEM 12c in a 'Database Control' style?

Environment:
Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris 5.10 u10
No experience with OEM, yet ...
I would like to set up OEM 12c for one (1) Test database but want to make the installation as easy as possible and without as much of the 'Cloud' control 'stuff' for managing several databases. Kind of like the 11g Database Control versus Grid Control.
We're in the planning stages of setting up a 'real' OEM 12c environment but I wanted to get a jump on things using this small test database.
I've been reading the Basic and Advanced Installation manuals but haven't seen anything about a leaner/smaller installation type.
Oh yes, I need to use the 'silent' install method as we did for the databases.
Pointers to other docs I'm missing are appreciated.
Any suggestions are most welcome.

The prereq checks at the top of the install should have reported the OS mis-match. Did you ignore the warning?

Install OEM 12c fails on "start oracle management service". win2008

Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 x64
Oracle Database 11g release 11.2.0.3.0
I install OEM 12c(12.1.0.3) following this manual: Installing Enterprise Manager System
before start i've installed WebLogic Server 10.3.6 and aplied 2 patches specified in this manual
installation type is advanced, small, so i have created database from the appropriate template
i also installed cygwin and started ssh-service
the installation of OEM process fails on 73% "start oracle management service" with this message:

Hi,
First of all with EM 12.1.0.x any version you are not required to install wls separately, we have single installer for em and wls. Is there any specific reason you installer wls separately?
Coming back to your issue: can you check
%OMS_HOME%\BIN>emctl istart oms completes successfully.
%OMS_HOME%\BIN>emctl istop oms completes successfully.
Also open an SR with Oracle support and share the number. We should debug such issue through SR so that we can share logs and come find a root cause.

Is it possible to install OEM 12c on a server already running OEM 11g ?

Is it possible to install OEM 12c on a server already running OEM 11g ?
We have a server already running OEM 11g, planning to install OEM 12C on the same server and running it in parallel while we transfer targets one by one to OEM 12c ?
Please let us know, if anyone has any experiences on this.

Hi,
Yes it is allowed to install EM 12c on same host but you need to make sure that the hardware is strong enough to keep both the OMS’es up and running. For production system setup i will not recommend you this approach but if this if for your testing purpose you can install both the OMSes on same host with different repositories.
Your second question is not clear, if your final goal is to have em 12c in your enviro then you can go through the proper EM upgrade method which will take care of all target and history migration. Manually doing all is not supported.

Fail to login as other user on OEM 12c Release 2 Cloud control console

Hi,
I tried to login on OEM 12c release 2 cloud control console as other user it show the following error
Authentication failed. If problem persists, contact your system administrator
but when i try with sysman account then it successful done. so i dont know why it happen. I also checked job_queue_processes that is 1000 and i also checked listener,agent,oms status all are up.
so please suggest me what should i do and what is the main cause of this problem.

I was trying to install OEM cloud control 12c release 2 on a 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.7 and in the “OMS Configuration” step the process encountered the following error and stopped.

I have to mention that previously I installed OEM cloud control 12c release 2 on a 64 bit Windows and used the DB that I am trying to use for the current installation as the repository. Actually for some reason I stopped the previous Windows OEM and try to install a new Linux version and I want to use the same DB. Is this the reason for the error? What should I do to solve that? What about to create a new DB schema?

Yes, I am using same database to house the 12.1.0.2 OMS on win and 12.1.0.2 on linux but I am not going to use the OMS on win.
Your solution worked for me. Dropping sysman schema and removing it's related synonyms solved the problem, thank you very much.

Hello if I wan't to install windows on my mac using bootcamp can I use the OEM version of windows. Thanks

Windows 7 and previous versions will not install on a external drive. It is one of the restrictions of windows. It must be installed to a internal hard drive or ssd, the drive must be internal to the computer. Actually connected directly to the main system board of the computer and not to any external type ports.
Windows 8 does have a feature/method for installing to a external drive but I have no idea how it is done.
Since you are looking at installing windows 7 you have to install that to the internal drive on the mac using boot camp assistant.
So you can't install it on a usb drive on a windows pc and then move it to your mac.

Can not install OEM Windows 7 64 bit on iMac 24"

I have a late 2006 iMac 24" white. I have installed Lion with Boot camp 4.0. I am attempting to install Windows 7 64 bit OEM. At Step 3 "Install Windows" of the Installation and Setup Guide the system does not start the Windows 7 installer. Please Help!

I found another thread about running Windows 7 64 Bit on systems other than in a list provided by Apple. I ran the suggested Terminal Command with the following result:

At the end of my DB creation with DBCA, it fails on Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) installation. Installing 10gr2 DB in an 11g2 cluster.

The hostname itself (hosthostdb01) isn't longer than 32 characters, only when it is fully qualified as hosthostdb01.abcdefgcentre.net.au. I don't have control over that when I run emca, I'm only specifying the hostname. I don't want to change the hostname and have to reinstall everything from scratch.
How can I get emca to work? Can I just change my /etc/hosts and remove the domain - perhaps just temporarily until emca installs ?

Doh! Just reverse the hosthame and qualified hostname in /etc/hosts, at least temporarily

Can't install OEM version of WinXP on the K7N2 Delta!??!?

I posted on amdmb.com's forums about how I cannot get WinXP to install on my hard drive connected to the k7n2 delta. Wonkanoby, a senior moderator on one of the boards here, and a visiotor on those boards at amdmb.com, stated that OEM versions won't work on this mainboard and you have to have a retail box windows version. Is this true? if so, this is complete crap! If MSI thinks I'm going to spend $150 bucks on a retail boxed version of Xp when I have a perfectly fine working copy right here, they are N U T S!!! This has got to be the most outrageous thing I've ever heard concerning mainboard issues. I hope MSI realizes they will either be working on a bios fix or they're paying me the restocking fee to send this board back to Newegg.

Q. How Do You Install the Windows XP Pro OEM Version?
A. I install it on a new computer (or hard disk drive taken down to "bare metal") from the DOS prompt with a Windows 98 Startup floppy (http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/software/windows/startup/startup.htm). Put a copy of smartdrv.exe on the Startup floppy. You should be able to find a copy on and existing Windows 9x/Me computer at C:windows. It is on the CD’s in D:win98. Boot to the floppy and use fdisk to partition the drive (the process the same as that at http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/software/windows/upgrade/fdisk.htm. Format the C: drive. Do not install the system files. If you have more than one partition, they can be formatted during the Windows XP installation or with Windows XP after it is installed. Also, use fdisk to manually make C: active if there is more one partition. Load smartdrv.exe…

…and run D:i386winnt.exe, where D: is your CD-ROKM drive.
Do not delete or reformat C: with this method. Winnt.exe copies the install files to that partition. You can convert it to NTFS and that process is fast. It should also work if the i386 directory is copied to a scratch hard disk and the hard disk is connected to the secondary IDE interface.
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer = a company that makes/markets computers (and parts), etc. which include parts made by other companies, and not the “original” manufacturer as OEM implies, just masquerading as one. Licenses of OEM versions of Windows, etc. software are sold to computer manufactures for installation on new computers. They are full versions of Windows, not upgrades. They are widely available on the "grey market" and Internet and cost considerably less than retail full versions. Just be careful not to purchase a pirated copy.

Can't install Portal in a 9i Database

Hi
I can get PORTAL to install in an 8.1.7R3 database with no problems. However, when I give the Portal Installer the SYS Password and HOST:PORT:NAME the installer can't log into the database.
Originally, I assumed that it may have to do with SYS must login as SYSDBA requirement and I set O7_DICTIONARY_ACCESSIBILITY=TRUE, bounced the database and restarted the Portal Installer. Still the installer can't login to a 9i database as SYS.

I have 9ias and Portal 3.0.9 running on 9i db on RedHat 7.2.
It was really no problem. The first key is to downgrade your
binutils until the entire install is finished and stable. Then
the 9i install goes in great. Next do the
07_dictionary_accessibility=TRUE thing....
After that, don't even try to let the portal config assistant
run. Even if you get past the can't log in as sysdba thing,
You'll NEVER get past the insufficient pool size thing. So, just
do the install: If enterprise, do not allow Portal to install at
all, do it in another install after. Otherwise, what I did, was
a minimal install. You'll need jdk 1.2.2 from blackdown for this
(even though you need 1.1.8 for 9i and the rest of 9ias). once
the install is finished, the Portal config assistant will kick
off, it WILL error, so just cancel it and do execute the silent
version of the installs (linstall, winstall). After that, it
will run slow and or timeout CONSTANTLY, so, all I did to
finally fix that was to delete or comment out anything that had
to do with the MTS dispatchers.... once that was done, my portal
runs like a shot.
Now if I could only figure out how to bulk load users from a
table from an old system...
