Very choppy video

When using QuickTime Conversion to output to 1920 x 1080 and/or 1280x720 using the default settings within Options --> Settings (save for changing the quality to 'High) the output of the finished video is very choppy. Now using an Intel-based iMac with Leopard, I hadn't seen this before with my old (R.I.P.) G5 and Tiger. What changes should be made within 'Settings'?
Perhaps while not relevant, the settings within Easy Setup are as follows:
Use: Apple Intermediate Codec;
Rates: All Rates;
HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60.
This is frustrating to say the least. The video as input from the source camera is fine. I.e., no frame drops, etc. The source clip plays fine in QuickTime.
Many thanks.

Tom,
When viewing the video it appears that it's skipping frames; the video is not smooth or 'fluid' if you will. These are of Diesel Freights being taped with the train moving perpendicular to the shooter and one can see them 'skip' or 'jerk' when viewing the video.
The computer is an 20" iMac, 2.66GHz CPU (Intel Dual Core) and was purchased in January, 2009. (Right before, for the same money, one can get a 24" screen, 4GB RAM, and 2x the hard disk, standard. Of course. Anyway...). There is >135GB of available disk space on this systems 300GB Disk, which is formatted OS-X Extended (Journaled).
Noteworthy is that Videos that were exported on the G5 I had are not showing this problem when played on this iMac. Only those that were exported from this iMac. Also, when the video is viewed within the canvas it's very smooth. So I wonder if there is something awry with the export process?
Is it worth reinstalling FCE? I ask this also because you had mentioned not seeing multiple choices for output formats such as I see and had provided the link for. E.g., the ability to export at both "HD 1280x720" and "1280x720 16:9.".
Thanks for your patience; I know this isn't easy to diagnose without having it in front of you.

  • Download tv shows very choppy video

    I have a PC with a 2.40ghz cpu and 512mb ram and a ATI
9250 video card. When I download tv shows to itunes 7.0.2
It seems that the CPU load goes up to 100% and stays there.
The video pauses and stops completely sometimes due to the CPU maxed out!! How can any company expect people to use their product and download video when equipment are beyond most users?? Now I aggree that my PC is now speed demon.
But it is what most people buy. Not all of us can afford to buy a $2000 computer.

I reinstalled Itunes and added a better video card. Seems to have helped.

  • Alum 24" 2.8GHz Experiencing very choppy video playback

Hello lately when I try to watch any type of video it pauses constantly using Firefox web browser.I am clueless why this is happening seeing I just installed a 4GB memory kit from Kingston thinking maybe it was a memory issue but I am still having the same problem.Could it possibly be my internet connection?I have the economy internet package through Comcast which is basically cell phone speed.Would it make that big of a difference upgrading my package or is there something else wrong?

    OK I'll admit it...
I have the slower than slowski DSL and also suffer watching most videos with Safari... What I have to do is pause or restart the video after it has had a few moments to download!
Quick-Time has an adjustable Streaming Feature that waits until enough of the video is downloaded then starts play, but sorry I'm not sure about FireFox.
Go to your Activity Monitor and select the Network tab to see how fast or slowww your download speed really is.
For kicks try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkHm8uUuT0o it will start and play just fine for me even in full screen, but the quality is poor!
For this version at LastFM: http://www.last.fm/music/CrazyFrog/videos/5518025 I have to wait on it be for viewing in full screen, but the quality is far better.

  • Choppy video playback with airplay from Macbook Pro

I experience very choppy video using airplay towards my Airplay unit (3rd gen).
I am using a Macbook Pro (15" retina, late 2013 version) with these specifications:
    - Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz.
    - 16 GB ram.
    - 768 GB flash/SSD.
...and so on. I have the Mavericks OS installed (10.9.1).
When I duplicate or extend the screen of the computer to my Apple TV it is chopping EXTREMELY much. I am not talking a little bit - but it is not even watchable. I thought that it could be the router itself as the connection is (probably, correct me if I am wrong anyone) is directed from the computer - to the router - and then to the Apple TV, which could make the router like a filter in the process. And if something would prevent the signal from reaching the Apple TV with "full speed" it could prevent the actuall image.
However, when I am using the iPhone 4S and streaming video (both video found in my phone as well as streamed TV from apps such as Magine.com) the image flows completely flawless. There are not even a touch of lagging. It flows perfect, just as watching a movie directly on the TV.
The networking hardware in the phone is slower than in the Macbook Pro retina (late 2013) - both for sending and recieving data. But still... my iPhone works better than the Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Even though that the processing, memory, graphic and networking power is probably a thousand times faster in the computer... it still performs really bad.
I have followed some discussion threads here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22051725#22051725 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5734226?tstart=0 just as a couple of examples). I have accessed my router (Netgear Gigabit EVG 2000) and increased the Wireless mode to "up to 270 Mbps. I have also followed the previously linked threads and disabled the WMM (in the QoS-section). I felt that this made a little bit of a difference...
...when I am mirroring the screen and scale down the resolution to match the AirPlay screen (full-HD, 1920 x 1080) it works okay, but still chops quite a bit almost all the time. But if I extend the screen and want to watch TV at the same time as I am doing something else on the computer - then it chops so that it is not even possible to watch.
This have to be something either with the Mavericks OS or with my network settings - can anyone help me...? It would mean A LOT!

Curious why you think it would be my network when the same network is being used by the iPad 3rd Gen and iPhone 5 and they both stream without issue. As far as the other items you mentioned, all devices are up-to-date with the latest firmware/software and the latest MacBooks do not have ethernet ports. Speedtests that I have conducted also indicate that bandwidth is not the issue as the results show that the speeds received from the router are quite impressive.

  • Very choppy playback for Flash Player in all browsers

I'm new to this forum but I hope someone can help me.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with a AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE CPU and 8G DDR3 1600 memory on a MSI NF980-G65 mobo. All of a sudden today Flash Player (v 10.1.85.3) started very choppy video and playback. This happens on both Firefox 3.6.10 and IE 8 v8.0.7600.16385. I tried reloading Flash but it still is acting up.
    Any ideas?

Internet Explorer uses ActiveX Controls for Flash Player.
Firefox uses a plugin for Flash Player.
    Each must be installed separately.
Chrome comes with Flash Player preinstalled; it doesn't need to be installed.

Hi, thanks for the screenshot and info. Your Flash files for IE & FF are correct along with the Shockwave Flash plugin for FF.
Did you find the Shockwave Flash Object in addons for IE to make sure it is Enabled? Check all categories. It is in Run without permission and All add ons.
Also you may want to make sure your graphic and video drivers are updated to the latest versions. This site has some of the Vendors listed and that may be helpful and it gives information on hardware support.

  • Choppy video on certain sites/flash players only

I bought an Acer laptop just this week. I've been having issues with video appearing rather choppy, as if looking at a poorly done animated gif. It's not constant, only on certain websites. For example I can watch a video on YouTube as smooth as cable tv but if I try to watch a video on Failblog.org I encounter very choppy video. At first I thought it was perhaps the quality of videos themself on these other sites, so i checked them out on my desktop and they play just fine. I tried disabling hardware accelleration, encounter the problem in both Chrome and IE, and have made sure I'm using the most recent version of flash. I'll post information below regarding my system and flash installation.
    System:
Acer Aspire Laptop Model # 7741Z-4643
    Processor: Intel Pentium CPU p6100 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz(DUAL CORE) with 3MB L3 Cache
Installed memory and storage: 3.00 GB DDR3 SDRAM and 250 GB HD with 189 GB free space
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0
System Type: 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium
    Network: Wireless 802.11b/g/n
    Flash:
In Google Chrome it states "You have version 10,2,154,12 installed"
In Internet Explorer it states "You have version 10,2,152,26 installed"
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well from the control panel > programs > uninstall. The logo on your test/version page plays fine.
    Protection:
    Malware: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Virus: AVG
I've disabled AVG from running in the background and on startup due to conflicts with malwarebytes and general resource hog issues I've had with it in the past. I've last scanned this morning and came up with no infections with both programs. Both have been updated to the latest libraries available for detection.
Any help I can get would be great and I apprecciate your time.

*the default toolbar layout is used
*the Javascript JIT compiler is disabled

  • My iTunes is very choppy when watching videos

My iTunes is very choppy when watching videos.  I just dowloaded a couple shows and it stops then goes really fast when it play's.  Anyway to fix this?

Yes! I have the exact same issue. So I tried some things.
I am on Uvese (via wifi) and was trying to update the apps on my PC via itunes. Taking FOREVER. So i tired it directly from my iPhone 6 via wifi - same issue. Then I turned off wifi on the iPhone and updated over (ATT) LTE. That worked great. I am thinking it is a Uverse/ATT issue at this point.

Are you running the 9.0.1 Update of the program and on what computer operating system is it running?
Is your video card/graphics card driver up to date according to the manufacturer of the card?
Is your computer optimized, including maintenance of pile ups of preview files, conformed audio files, and conformed video files?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
What are your project settings and what are the properties of your source media? When you say that "used to be able to export...." is that on the same computer, same brand/model/settings for the camera recording the video now in use, same Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
Where player are you using for the playback of these exports?
Please give us more details on the size of the projects (then and now) as well as details of the customized export settings in your Share/Computer/ route. Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 is only a 32 bit application running in 32 bit or 64 bit system. Not sure if computer resources might be taxed more so now than before.
    More later.

had some old movies from reel to reel on a vcr. i converted these to mp4 format using pinnacle video capture, quality was not great but it was decent enough on my computer. when i placed these on my ipad it was much worse and very choppy.  i have handbrake and thought i could maybe change the movie so i could play it on ipad but dont know what dimensions or framerate etc. currently the movie on the computer is in 640 x 480 mpeg 4  aac.  thanks derek

    Jon,
What Julianne said at first about re-linking made perfect sense and I followed it easily, had actually already been there.  But in my situation now, it didn't have any effect.  The directory of folders which had already been added were still just as they were, and the outstanding balance are not in the desired position.  And the folders which had been brought in earlier today when I clicked "synchronize folder", were still missing all the metadata.
Maybe this means I need to start over, and I'm fine about doing that that, but I don't know what it takes to accomplish that.  I'm concerned now that any changes I make out of guesswork could only make the problem harder to resolve.  It just feels to me like something I did at the beginning just wasn't right, and now it's a tangle.
    Can you advise?
    Thanks,
    Gary

  • IChat to PC... video/audio very choppy on my end, good on their end???

I'm using an iMac G5 2GHz with OS 10.4.6 and the person I'm connecting with uses a 4 year old Windows machine at 400MHz. She is telling me that using iChat on my end and AIM 5.9 on her end... my audio/video seems pretty good on her end, but the audio/video I see of her is very, very choppy with a/v sync problems and to the point it's essentially unusable. We tried iVisit as well and what she sees/hears is good on her end with that and a lot better on my end than iChat but some mild a/v sync problems and slight choppiness, though much more usable. Is her old/slow computer likely the culprit here? I'm assuming that the 400MHz processor is likely not able to churn fast enough to get good audio/video out, and can't really be overcome by high speed internet. Is this likely the case?

    HI Joshua,
    Get her to do this.
    Start a chat.
She shoul see that your incoming Vid is infact the front one of two tabs.
She should click on the rear one to bring it to the front.
    It is her preview.
Next should look to the right where a small squarish icon has appeared.
    She should click on this
Next a slider will have come up.
She should slide this to the left.
At this point it is worth you having the Connection Doctor open(in the Video menu)
You should see that her frame rate and Bit rate goes up.
Th eprocess actually reduces the quality of the video she is sending. As a conseqence there is not so much data in every frame and her processor can pass more frames and the video will look smoother.
You may find her Audio also improves.
10 frames a sec is about what you should be expecting form a PC. If you get more and the picture is fine otherwise consider it a bonus.

  • HD rental video playback very choppy

I just rented the Rum Diary on my apple tv, it was playing fine until about an hour into the movie then the video got very choppy.  I tested my internet speed, it was just under 11 Mbps, can anyone tell me where i can file a complaint about this?

    Hi,
Same problem with same type series 6 Samsung TV about 2 months old.
Problem is most noticeable during fast pan scenes or anytime 2/3of the screen is doing something. Chunky, chunk, chunk.
So the trick is to just turn off all the Samsung Motion Plus stuff off?
I'll dig thru the menus and see what I can find. Is this something Apple can address?

  • Video is very choppy

I have a older mac mini. I have tried to load everything I can think of to make videos on the internet play better, but they are still very choppy. Any Ideas?

what is your mini, a PowerPC G4 or an Intel model?

  • Timeline playing back very choppy over multiformat video.

    Hi Guys,
I am editing some behind the scenes footage for a movie our studio is making. A lot of the media has come from different sources. Some red, some mpeg4 etc. The Mac i am using is a Quad Core Mac Pro... technically it should be powerful enough to play over all these fine. But even when everything is rendered, it is very choppy. So much so, that to check my audio is in synch for some of the action shots, i have to export it as a Quicktime and play it back and check it that way.
Now i have tried RT in unlimited and safe... but it still happens. Does anyone have any possible solutions at all?
Any help would be much appreciated,
    thanks in advance.

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.
