Very frustrating networking problem......help appreciated
I have a small home network connecting through a wrt54g v6 with the latest frimware.
The network:
PC A (mine) is wired to the router. It is the only computer with a fixed IP address, as I run a comms server for gaming. Running Windows XP professional. There is an Epson printer on this PC
PC B (my wife's) is wired to the router. Dynamic IP, and also win xp prof. There is a Brother laser printer connected.
Laptop C. Wireless connection, wep128, running win xp home edition.
Laptop D. Wireless connection, wep 128, running windows 2000 prof.
The problem:
All computers can access the internet for all applications with no problem. All computers can see the others (A, B, C and D) in "Network Neighbourhood/Computers near me" and can ping the other machines. All computers have the other computers' logon and passwords in the Users list with sharing permissions.
Computers B, C, and D can all share folders on each other, and C and D can use the printer attached to B. Computer A can see and use the shared folders on B, C and D, and can use the printer on B.
However, although B, C and D can see and ping A, when I try to connect to any shared folders or the printer on A from any of the other computers, I get the "Computer XXXX is inaccessible. You do not have the appropriate permissions" message. This occurs whether or not the windows firewall is enabled on any or all machines, and whether "use simple file sharing" is checked or unchecked. The only things running in the network setup on each machine are "client for MS windows", File and printer sharing, and TCP/IP.
So I can send files from A to B, C or D, and use the printer on B, but I can't send files back to A from any machine, and cannot connect to the printer on A from any machine.
I have deleted the users on A and added them back multiple times, so I'm sure that the usernames and passwords are correct. I have tried PC A running as a dynamic IP assigned by the router just to see what happens, and it's the same problem.
This is really annoying me!! Can anyone help, please?
there is such a service called - computer browser. under the control panel - administrative tools - services. disable it for all the computers except your computer A, which should have the service start automatically. this service keeps track of all the computers in the network and this service should run on one machine in the network which usually starts up first and stays constantly connected (unlike wireless, which occasionally drops it's connection - even on purpose.). hope this helps a bit - it did for me.

My iPhone 4 has the same problem. Other people I know have similar issues. Other threads in the forum have commented that there could be a problem with the screen proximity sensor that is triggered by your ear being near or touching the on-screen mute or speaker button. They claim that an external case or a screen protector could cause the proximity sensor to malfunction, or possibly the screen needs to be cleaned. I tried putting a non-conductive thin cover over the phone, and it did not help. In my opinion, the phone works as designed. Other than switching to another brand phone or Apple fixing it with a functional iOS update versus a pretty iOS update, I've only found one solution, which is to use a headphone/microphone or a hands-free device. Of course, using a headphone/microphone is often inconvenient.

What is the deal? I'm trying to request service for my ipod touch and every time I go through everything and submit it, it says "Sorry we can't process your request at this time..." I'm getting very frustrated. Please help.

How do I get CDs that have been imported into my iTunes library to sync/transfer to my iPhone?? All the material that I purchased from iTunes has transferred just fine, but although the CDs will import to iTunes, they will not sync up with my phone. How do I do this?? I am very frustrated and would greatly appreciate any help.

Recently, when I perform a software update check on the pulldown Apple menu, I get this error:
"Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem."
The only problem is that my network works just fine. I use the internet and get emails without any problem. But I can't figure how I can fix Software Update.
The only relevant updates have been for Glims and 1Password. Oh, and note the same problem trying to access the App Store; I just get a "Can't connect to the App Store" error.
Any hints?I have to solve all my own problems.
The problem was due to Little Snitch. Once I upgraded from 2.4.0 to 2.4.2, my system works swimmingly again.

Very unusual LCD display problem, help appreciated
First post, I want to thank anyone who can help me in advance. I just took over my sister's MBP Unibody, and she has been having an issue where there is about a 1.5 inch wide strip of complete distortion on the left hand side of the screen. Everything in that strip is completely color distorted with constant screen tearing and flickering. I suspect there is something wrong with a wire in the lcd screen, as this problem only starts after using the computer for 15 minutes, and goes away initially by tapping the screen or adjusting the screen. After about half an hour of use however, it does not go away. In a completely unrelated incident, the glass panel cracked yesterday (This problem has been going on for about a month and a half), and i ordered a replacement, so I will be "under the hood" on Thursday. If anyone has any recommendations of what I might do to try to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it.

And I would gladly bring it in to an apple technician instead, however my only problem with that is its not like they can just take off the glass, take a look at it and then tell me how much it costs. i mean the glass is shattered, you take it off and its going to be in pieces. Likewise, they very well might say that they can't do anything about it because the broken glass is clearly accidental damage and immediately attribute it to the lcd problem even though it has nothing to do with it. If the glass wasn't broken, I would never have even posted and immediately taken it to the apple store. Please, tell me I'm wrong and I will take it to them right away to tell me exactly why the screen is the way it is, and it will probably be covered seeing how it started out of no where. My understanding of apples policy however is that with the glass cracked as it is, they will have no choice but to immediately charge me for a full repair. But like I said, if I'm wrong please tell me and I'll take it in tomorrow

The common Safari network problem - help!

I've been involved in a couple of other posts on this topic, but thought it would be easier to pull out my problem into a topic of its own, as it's still unresolved.
The problem is a familiar one I think.
It would be great to have some help and advice as it's driving me nuts!
Here's the symtoms:
Safari takes an age to load pages and often gets stuck trying.
Tellingly, my airtunes stops and starts when I'm playing music over the network to my stereo.
I've got a MacBook running 10.4.8 with AirTunes.
So far, I've tried the following:
- Made sure software is up to date
- Emptied cache
- Ran Firefox which is just as slow
- Repaired permissions using Disk Utility
- Changeed my primary cabel protocol (airport) to be first on the list and deslected others
- Removed any superflous wi-fi locations I don't use
- In the TCP panel>DNS servers, entered 4.2.2.2
Can anyone think of anything else to try?
I read something about 10.4.8 having a few network issues, so someone suggested redoing the update, but I'm not sure I understood what they meant about doing things with permissions before and afterwards?
Can anybody help?!

I ran the Hardware test, but it detected no problems.
I also changed my network settings to Manual with fixed IP - but it hasn't made any difference at all.
So I can rule out my netgear router/modem, airport airtunes, safari and my isp (I have exactly the same problems on other wireless networks and also using firefox) and now I suppose my mac's hardware.
Does that just leave
1. the configuration of my network and
2. OSX 10.4.8
then?
Maybe I should just wait for Leopard?!
Do you think it would still be worth trying it out using an Ethernet connection rather than wireless?
If so, would you be able to give me a step-by-step guide, as I find the Network prefs very confusing.

MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J Problem, help appreciated
I have been trying to burn an I Movie through I DVD on the Matshita DVD-R UJ-85J. The program seems to work correctly until right at the last minute. The burning process gets to Multiplexing and burning and suddenly the disc ejects and says done. The disc when reinserted still is blank. I am fairly new at this and was wondering if I am doing something wrong or is their a problem with my drive? Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I too am having a similar problem. Whenever I burn a Memorex DVD-R through my drive, SimplyBurns stops the operation immediately, saying "disc not writable." I read somewhere that resetting PRAM fixes some problems; that didn't work. Furthermore, here is what System Profiler reports:

Green - Home Lab Setup problem - Help Appreciated

There are 3 components in this connection:
1.The 2520's console port
2.rollover cable
3.The 2509's line ports
If one of the above components have any problem, it will cause a broken connection.
First let's check the 2520's console port. Can you login to the 2520 by directly conecting the console port to your PC? If so, this can be excluded from being a probable cause.
Second, change the rollover cable. Is it improved then? If so, the rollover cable you were using is bad. If not, the rollover cable can be likely excluded from being the probable cause.(One possibility is that all the rollver you have are bad, but not likely)
Third, plug your rollover cable to line 2, then type "telnet 10.101.1.1 2002", and see whether you can login to the 2520. If not, repeat the process on line 3, line4 ,...,and line 8.
If all the 8 lines cannot be used, there is the last chance. Remember your aux port? It's your line 9. Before repeat the above process, add some command lines in your confiuration:

Moving iTunes Problem(help appreciated)
Ok. My computer's disk space was almost full, so I bought an external hard drive and simply cut and pasted the iTunes folder on my computer. I then simply added all the files(from the external hard drive) into iTunes. The problem is that it's registering this library as a new one and I have to erase and sync. Is there anyway to undo what I've done? Help is much appreciated !!

A Bit of an Odd Problem (Help Appreciated)
Or at least I assume this is the problem...
I have windows 8 and Skype came as an app on my laptop; that's fine, it worked really well. But several weeks ago I bought a Student edition of MS Office 365 and installed it on my laptop, and the package said that a skype account was needed (or something like that, I think because you needed a microsoft account), and I was like "Okay that's fine".
When activing Office account it required a microsoft sign in, and while trying to sign in, what I thought was my account didn't work so I though that I was mistaken (didn't make the connection between MS and Skype at that moment) and that I didn't have one. Now the Student edition only works if you prove you're a student, so I used my college email when signing up for a microsoft account.
And next thing I know my skype is screwed up. Not just that it won't connect, but it won't call anyone, I can't answer incoming calls, and (going by the sounds) it doesn't know whether I'm signed on or trying to call someone.
I think the problem is that it's registering two different accounts and doesn't know which one to go with - the one already set up on the laptop, or the one MS Office 365 is supposed to be signed in?
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do? I'm afraid of uninstalling it incase that messes up my other apps (since this laptop came with Skype installed as an app), even if I re-installed it. I was also thinking about leaving it and just not touching it, while installing Skype on the desktop... but how much confusion could that cause?

i updated to ios 6 on the 19th. i went into echofon and tried to save a photo and it asked me to grant echofon access to my photos. Without thinking, I said no. I realize now that inorder to save photos, I have to grant this access but I can't figure it out. I have deleted the app and re-installed it. I have searched the web and everything possible place on the phone itself hoping i could change it or something. But I can't find anything. Their website is of no help at all. Anybody got any ideas!?!?
