Very High Resolution PDFs for iPad

Hello,
A friend gave me a few PDF files created from very high resolution pictures to view on my iPad.
I loaded the PDF files on iBooks and so far so good. The problem is that when I swipe from a PDF page to another the image doesnt appear immidietly. It takes some time and the image is blur before it appears... After is fine but I want to remove this delay.
Does anyone knows any proper method to view high resolution PDF on iPad without delay when changing pages ? Or how what method or format to follow so to make them proper ?
Thanks in Advance.

What PDF reader are you using? Perhaps there is one out there that renders files better.
However, if the images are large then there is only so much that can be done. That delay is caused by the device processing the image. If you find a more efficient reader that may help. But you may also want to consider tweaking with those images, knocking them down just a bit and find that sweet spot where they're still of a good quality but not so large that they push the boundaries of what the device can handle.

  • High resolution PDF ?

I don't know much about the subject, but I can do PDF files from my Word documents. I found out that just asking for a print and selecting PDF printer would lead me to it. BUT I have just been asked for a high resolution PDF file. What is this? I thought that I had found what I needed. What does that mean and what can I do?
Thanks for helping me with this.

What is normally meant by a "high resolution PDF" is a PDF file in which the image data is sufficient for high quality printing. Generally speaking, that means that all grayscale and color images have a resolution of 300 dpi and monochrome images have a resolution of 1200 dpi. Such high resolution should not be artificially achieve simply by up-rezing images in Photoshop. That doesn't solve anything. Furthermore, for certain image types, such as screen shots that are naturally relatively low resolution, you pretty much need to use the screen shot images "as-is." In the end, the resolution of the images in the PDF file depend on the original image resolution as well as the joboption settings used for downsampling. Also, joboptions should use very conservative compression settings if JPEG is used.

  • Rendering very high-resolution image sequence

I'm in the process of rendering a very high-resolution image sequence (8k, 2:1 aspect ratio). Yes, in this case it really is necessary to render such a large image.
Not entirely surprisingly, I'm getting an error during rendering. "Unable to allocate space for an 8000x4000 pixel image buffer."
I have a relatively powerful machine (Mac Pro, 8 cores, 16gb ram, plenty of hard drive space)
How should I tune the memory settings for this process? Also, are there any "under the hood" tweaks that I can make in AE to optimize it for rendering these large files.
    Thanks!

We get questions like this often around here and I, too, will be interested by the destination for this rendering.
Such a mosaic cannot be displayed from a single device so it's not necessary at all to render it as a complete frame. If you are going to a digital signage system, there are workarounds for importing the source video that should be provided by the signage driver's mfr. If you're going out to several synced display systems, render them as individual movies.

  • Very high resolution after update

I just finished update after 2-weeks holiday, and... X start it very high resolution: 2048x1536. I have 1024x768 in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf, log shows that this file is used. How it is possible that higher mode is initialized? I use Linux for about 10 years but it's first time I see something like this.
PS. this is probably related to xf86-video-ati update, I use Radeon 9800 Pro.

does it happen in the login page? cuz i have the same problem (my monitor doesnt even show image because of the ress being so high)
but i have a x1650pro so shouldnt be a card problem..

  • High-resolution timer for the iPhone

The NSDate class is actually very high-resolution.
    NSDate *startDate = [[NSDate alloc] init];
    // do something
    NSDate *endDate = [[NSDate alloc] init];
    double seconds = [endDate timeIntervalSinceDate:startDate];
iPhone simulator: 0.001013 or 0.000983 ms accuracy (about twice as long as it takes to pull the date)
iPhone debug: between about 0.014 and 0.015 ms accuracy (it takes that long to pull the date)
The [NSDate date] might be simpler than alloc and init, but it actually takes about 3 millionths of a second longer on the simulator.

So are you asking for a way to obtain a timestamp with less latency or how to implement a timer?

In the printer properties or the preferences for PDF Maker (create PDF), select either the press or print settings file. That should do the job.

What format are they? Tiif? Jpeg? You can compress them with a lot of apps - including Preivew and just about any graphics editor out there. I'm not sure that 45mb would crash iPhoto thogh, are yo sure that's the cause? I know that some folks have mentioned pixel dimensions causing issues, as can color profiles.

  • Why do my high resolution pdfs have thin white lines all over them?

When I make high res pdfs to send to the printer, they often have thin white lines in them that seem to be very visible when they are displayed in email. This panicks my clients. When the files are opened in Acrobat, they look OK most of the time, but sometimes they still have the white lines. What causes this and how can I make it STOP!!! It is driving me and my clients nuts.
I am using Acrobat 8 Professional on a iMac OSX 10.6.8. My files are pretty standard for print pubs. They usually contain type and images, and the images get the white lines where the text boxes are in the source file. It is maddening.

I forgot to say that I am creating source files in AI CC if that makes a difference, but I have had this problem in the past with previous versions of AI.

  • High resolution PDF still generates low resolution drop shadows?

I have created a series of print ads in InDesign CS5.5 to be run in magazines, and at the bottom of the page is the company's logo, with a drop shadow applied to it within InDesign. Nothing strange there. Upon exporting the PDF, I use the Press Quality settings which by default are made to create 300 dpi PDFs. The only changes I make in the settings is adding bleed and crop marks, I don't change anything that could affect the resolution or transparency settings. But still, the magazine's print-technician always replies that the shadows in my document have a low resolution.
Up until now I have told him to not worry and run it anyway, and the results have been fine - I haven't noticed any problems with the quality of the print in the magazine. But it really annoys me that I keep getting these error messages - I want to create perfect PDFs! Why on earth are my shadows ending up as low resolution images?
The only thing I can imagine might be a sign of an issue is under the Advanced-tab in my Export-settings. The Transparency Flattener section (which I, to be honest, am not quite sure what it is) is set to medium resolution, and is greyed out - meaning I can't change it to high resolution. Could this be what is causing it? And if so, how do I fix it?

I don't spend a lot of time with Acrobat's preflight, but it looks like it assumes what the flattener preset will be at output even though it could be anything.
The default Press Quality preset exports live transparency with the flattener grayed out as Medium and it looks like Acrobat preflight considers that even though nothing has been flattened yet. So, here I've made a 3" sqaure box and exported it with Press Quality and prefilght tells me it's roughly 200ppi (which by the way is plenty for a dropshadow):
If I change the preset to High (set the Compatibility to 1.3, which lets you set the flattener to High, then reset compatibility to 1.4):
Then Acrobat's preflight tells me the shadow will have more resolution:

  • Change dimensions of 'high resolution photos' for digital printing

    Hi,
We recently placed a huge order, received our photos, and all of them had been blown up larger than what appeared in the album, heads were cut off, arms cut off, pictures were not centered. This was a problem for 4"by6" size, 5"by7", and 8"by10". When we inquired as to why and we were told that because we used 'high resolution' that the photos would come out larger no matter what company we used to process the digital prints. We were told that we could change the dimensions of each photo (squashing the photo to fit) but we don't know how to do that. Also, is there a way to do this to all of the photos at the same time?
Please explain, we don't know what to do at this point.
    We're very sad right now.

The company already told me that they will refund my money so that is not the problem.
The ratio differences is what the person told me initially too, however told me that I could also change the dimensions so that the photos would not be cropped and centered automatically...but that's not what I want to do, as it would leave white space on the sides and top, and I have several that I want to frame.
So what do I do now? I have 100's of pictures and over 90% of them have this problem. I used your software to enhance the photos, crop the photos, etc... but I don't see an area that explains to me what part of the image will be cropped out once they are sent out to print. Nor to I see an area that gives me a rectangular dimension to work from. If I have to crop these pictures to get them to turn out right, I need to get started on this right away.
When I print these on my own printer they seem to print just fine. There are too many to print this way, however.

  • PDF for ipad has white bars on either side instead of a full bleed

    Hi there
i have been creating a pdf document in indesign cc. Set it up for ipad and in 1024x768 and for digital publishing/ipad.
Now when i send it to my ipad and download it from mail i have a white bar left and right on the horizontal layout. Top and bottom are bleeding right to the end.
I have it on every page and cant seem to find the solution how i can have it bleed out on the sides as well. Anyone has an answer for me? i am going nuts. haha

    Hihi
Thanks for your answer Petteri. That could be it even though in adobe reader
its fine in 'CONTINOUS'mode where u scroll down. But the bars show on the
side in horizontal view when you view in "SINGLE PAGE' and you want to
    scroll sideways.
Its truly weird. I think the best way is still to design it in 1024x768
don't u think? I want it to be full bleed and no white bars though.
    Thanks much

  • Resizing very high-resolution photos?

      downsizing photos
i want to make a blurb book using photos professionally scanned at high resolution, 7351×4947 pixels at 5250ppi.
for the book i want to make they should print at 11.25" and not more than 300ppi.
when i downsize them (using image > image size) to that, they are still 21.9M, but are not supposed to be more than 10M.
what’s the best way to downsize them further without messing them up?

As Lundberg02 suggested, you might want to try resampling your image. You can do this by going to "Image > Image Size," and changing the Resolution option.

  • High resolution output for Windows Media Player?

Im trying to play a high resolution video (1280x720), that was edited on Premiere Pro, through my media player and/or the Power DVD (on both a xp and a vista computer). I made a multiplexed MP2 (blue ray) file, but it would not play in either program. The extension (.m2t) is not recognized.
Any suggestions of getting this to play (with the best quality)? Is there another mp2 file I can create for this purpose? Do I need to render as a movie file (and get Quicktime pro) or as a high quality avi (...using which codex)?

Ok, I have e new problem Blue Ray multiplexed will only work with Dolby Digital, and apparently Dolby Digital is a trail copy with Premiere cs3, and I used all trial copies. The cost is prohibitive to get Dolby, so Im back at square 1.
I am now rendering using MPEG 2 setting at a high resolution (though not blue ray). It plays fine with all media players. The question now is progressive or interlaced for HD TV monitors?
