It is better to take the MBP to the Apple store as soon as possible.
This is not normal.
May be the adapter has to be replaced.

  • MagSafe adaptor very hot

So, I think my dad ran over my MagSafe adaptor while he was vacuuming the other day.  It's still charging properly and everything but the "cube" of the adaptor is very hot after it's been plugged in for a bit.  Right now it's plugged into the wall via the longer three-prong cord then to the Mac.  I've had it plugged in about 30 mins and it's already so hot that I can't touch it properly and if I disconnect the extension cord, the metal prongs on the MagSafe are hot as well.  I'm just checking here before I buy a new one because I don't remember if this is normal.  I don't know for sure that anything happened to it but there appear to be hairline cracks near where the extension cord connects to the MagSafe.  Replace?
As I'm writing, I feel like it's obvious the device needs to be replaced, but maybe this question will help others so I'll post it anyways

  • Melted MagSafe adaptor

Hey guys, my sister's MagSafe adaptor has started to melt toward the end where the cord joins the block, and it's starting to melt away at the plastic. I also noticed the cable itself getting VERY hot to touch, so there's a definite fault somewhere. I heard that Apple in America are replacing these dangerous power adaptors even outside of warranty, are Apple doing the same thing in Australia? Hope so.

Print that page and take it into the Apple store. Don't leave without a replacement. Get a manager involved if you need to.

  • TS1713 Does my 1-year warranty cover the replacement of a damaged Magsafe adaptor?

The cord on my 85W Magsafe adaptor has been damaged. Does my 1-year warranty cover the replacement of the adaptor?

The cord directly connected to the adaptor was starting to rip off, and so my mother used electrical tape to fix it. The tape ended up melting, somehow causing the cord to rip off, but not completely. The charger works to an extent - it's very on and off. However, I still would like to replace it for a new one. Will I still be able to replace it? With warranty covering it?

  • Magsafe Adaptor Broken, Again.

My last magsafe adaptor broke, and I got it replaced for free (Out of warranty) due to it having a known problem. Now, the replacement in just over 4 months has given away, and won't charge. It's the exact same thing that happened to my last Magsafe adaptor whereby the Adaptor slowly went, where at first you had to hold it within a certain position to get it to charge, and that kept getting worse, until it went.
I've used it properly, following the apple guidelines, but it still went. I have the sheet from the last repair dated 23 August 2010, so I was wondering if I will get it replaced free of charge? I mean I see other people are having similar problems with this magsafe adaptor on the reviews section on this site, so it looks like the problem that you tried to fix, hasn't worked.
    Thanks for reading!
EDIT: Sorry, i posted this in the wrong section.

I had the burning magsafe sheath problem in 2008 and had it replaced out of any type of warrany by a really kind genius guy.
Yesterday I went back for the same problem..but this "genius" said it was never a recognized issue. Since yesterday I'm looking for some way to prove them IT IS a known problem, there WAS a document (lost), and THEY probably gave me ANOTHER defected magsafe, as I use it very carefully.
I found this thread here http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1782256&tstart=0&messageI D=8426183#8426183 but it links to the lost apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1977?locale=en_EN which now redirects to the "Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters" page.
    Would this be enough?
Can anyone help me retrieving that document?
    Thanx

  • White Macbook (mid 2006) Runs loud and very hot,  battery not charging

I know my Macbook is getting a bit old now, but I don't think the way it is running is very normal.
The battery will say that it is fully charged, but it will only last about half an hour when disconnected from the charger. The light on the charger will not come on either, or it will blink when i attach it, then stay out.
My Macbook will also run very loudly, and hot. I don't ever run too many programs at once, so I know that it's not a strain on the system from what I can tell.
I tried resetting the SMC since it sounded like the problems I am having would be solved by resetting it.
Are there any known problems such as these, or fixes? Thanks.

  • Mid-2010 Macbook Pro running very hot

    Hi all,
My mid-2010 Macbook pro is running very hot. On average CPU is 61-70 degrees Celsius, sometimes even more. I'm pretty bad at having lots of chrome tabs open and heavy multitasking, but even when I'm not temperature still ends up very high and fan rpm can get to over 6000. Heat seems to be concentrated to the lefthand side of the touchpad (battery area?). I'm running 10.9.3.
Current stats below from iStat pro widget (smcFanControl concurs with these temps), with only the following pic's activity running. Laptop currently balanced on two books (so airflow around the sides) which are in turn on my lap.
I have tried reseting the SMC with the shift-control-option-power method but it doesn't seem to have worked - instructions said to press and hold this, then release, then press power again to boot, but laptop boots up from this combination anyway.
Am I just doing something wrong or will this be an expensive trip to the apple store to fix?

  • IPhone 4 battery dies quickly, won't charge properly and is very hot!

Hi, my iPhone 4 won't charge properly and the battery drains really fast plus the handset is very hot. Does it need a new battery?
It just suddenly started happening yesterday before lunch and hasn't been right since! I haven't done any software updates or anything that could cause it. I e tried deleting my mail accounts, turning phone off and re installing them as suggested in one post but that didn't work!
    Thanks

  • IPhone 4 very hot and battery draining fast

I am having an issue with my IPhone 4 that just started yesterday. It is VERY hot to the touch the screen and the back of the phone. It is also not maintaing a charge. I charged it all night and just taking it off the charger and not using it till I checked the time one time it was down to around 96%. I talked on it for maybe 5 - 10 minutes and only talked and it was down in the 70's. By the time I picked it up again once in the office to check battery power I noticed it was down in the 50's. I am constantly having to charge it and cannot stand to hold it in my hand due to it being so hot. Any advice or ideas?

There is Most likely a Probem with your battery, I would go to the Apple store to see if it can be fixed or replaced.

  • Issues with newest update, battery draining quickly, phone very hot

I recently updated my IOS to the newest edition. I do not know much about the techonological aspects of the phone and how it works, but I do know how to reboot the phone, reset the phone and close out all the applications so that there is no software running in the background.
Since updating the phone, I have experienced so many problems. The most unsettling one is that the phone is very very hot to the touch while it is syncing to my itunes and while it is charging.
I am not sure what is going on in the background, but currently I am in the process of studying for final exams and I don't really want to drive all the way out to see the Apple geniuses if it is something that I could possibly fix at home.
Also the battery is draining quickly as a result of whatever application is running in the background. I have turned my email off from push, it is now manual. I have also pretty much changed the setting of all the applications that use location or push for notifications because I am not sure what is making the phone run hot.
    Any feedback would be amazing!
    thanks

when you have a heating issue there isnt much you can really do.
To be honest these are the solutions that may or may not work.
First thing I would try is rebooting the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for 15 seconds until you see the white apple logo.
If that doesn't work I would restore from backup. If that doesn't work I would restore as new. If all else fails take it to your closest apple store they may replace the phone for a working one..

    Hi rhaughan,
I see that you have concerns about your operating temperature of your computer while using resource-heavy applications such as gaming applications. I have an article that will address some of the concerns you have mentioned:
Mac notebooks: Operating temperature - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201640
While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
You should also see this article for even further information about your fans:

  • My iPhone 5s with iOS 7.1 become very hot when charged almost reach 100% and will shut down itself.

My iPhone 5s with iOS 7.1 become very hot when charged almost reach 100 % and will shut down itself. Then I need to off the power and let it cool down first before I can on the phone back. Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks.

    Hi Limfromsi,
It is normal to an extent for the iPhone to get warm during charging. If your iPhone is currently in a case, you may want to try charging it without one and see if the issue occurs, as the design of the iPhone uses the exterior of the device as a cooling surface. For more information about iPhones and temperature, you may find the following article helpful:
iOS devices: Keeping device within acceptable operating temperatures

If you continue to have issues with your iPhone in the default config (no case, using the included original cable and power adapter), you may want to have your phone evaluated for service. The following page may be of use:

  • My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install.  Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?

My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install.  Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?

I get the impression that most of the users on older hardware experiences similar temperature issues on Lion for a long time now. Awaiting for confirmation from the original poster.
In the meantime I'm just cautious with regards to pushing the machine to such extreme temps, since something tells me such behaviour which includes monitor flickering and the likes is nothing but abnormal for any type of use...
Any clues if 10.7.5 does anything on this? If not I'm afraid i see myself going back to SL for good...

  • MacBook not going to sleep and getting very hot

I just purchased a MacBook and have been using it for a few days. I have noticed that it does not appear to go to sleep correctly and gets very hot in the process. I finished working on my MB about 45 minutes ago. At the time it was connected to the mains and I disconnected to catch my next train. I shut the lid and after a few minutes the sleep indicator light at the front dimmed once then stayed on permanently. I could not hear the drive spinning (though the drive is quiet on this machine and there was a lot of background noise) and assumed all was OK. Anyhow, I have just taken the MB out of its case some 45 minutes later and it felt extremely hot (almost too hot to touch, I would guess around 50ºC). The sleep indicator light on the front was solid white. I opened the lid and the machine woke up. Something not right here....Also power remaining was down to 72% so something has been using up a lot of energy and heating up the aluminium!
    Tony
ps. Whilst writing this email the MB has cooled down considerably but still warm.
ps2. Probably not related, but I have firmware password protection enabled
    null

I did see some of the other posts, but nothing about the MB getting so hot.
I tried sleep from the menu and this seems to work (though I have rebooted the machine since the above report).
What worries me is the potential fire risk/damage to the MB, the case was extremely hot.
