Very Large Deployment Packages

Hello,
I have a couple ADRs for Updates that have very large deployment packages upwards of 12GB.  These ADR's are downloading many updates for many OSs and just keeps adding them to the deployment packages.  Is there a best practice on how to better
manage updates using ADR's and there deployment packages?
Thanks.
Shawn

Hi,
1. Create a new software update group each time an automatic deployment and for general deployment.
2. Use an existing software update group for automatic deployment rules for Endpoint Protection definition updates

  • Jerky performance in iBooks widget and Animate Deployment Package

    Hi folks,
I'm making a interactive children's book using Edge animate as I wanted it to be full of rich interaction, animation etc. My plan is to make the whole book in Edge and then drop that Edge file into either iBooks author or Adobe DPS. When I preview the work in Chrome through the actual application of Edge it plays perfectly, really smoothly and with no lag at all.
However, when I export as an iBooks widget or use the Animate Deployment Package option and preview through either iBooks or DPS then I see a marked reduction in performance. There is a slight lag between tapping an item and the animations starting and they play through in a slightly jerky fashion.
I read a discussion on these forums where the person said they had noticed the same thing when they had used symbols in their work. Unfortunately, because of the complexity of my project, I have to use symbols. Is this just how it is?
It's not absolutely dreadful, and if if that's how it is then I can live with it - but I would prefer it to be as smooth as it appears on my browser previews.
Any thoughts or suggestions on what I can do to improve the performance?
    Thanks,
    Tom.

    Hi Elaine,
Thanks for getting back to me.
The largest graphic that I animate is 1024 x 768, but I didn't notice any particular drop in performance between larger items over smaller ones. I did notice that bitmaps suffered more from the jerky framerate than DIV elements created within Edge, but I guess that's to be expected.
Most of the images are .pngs because they need to be character's arms, legs etc to make the figures animate, so that must be the issue I guess. I've probably just been spoilt from seeing it run so smoothly on my desktop browser!
The 'symbols' comment was something that I thought was odd too - I only mentioned it as it had been brought up on the forums in relation to playback issues in iBooks.
Anyway, like I said it's not dreadful so I'll just have to live with it as I can't optomize the graphics to not have transparency in this instance.
    Thanks for your time,
    Tom.

  • I support a very large school district currently running Firefox 3.6. What will happen at end of life date? We're in the middle of online testing this week.

I run the test center for a very large school district with over 120k students. We've got a current deployed base of 54k client machines using Firefox 3.6. We haven't upgraded due to multiple reasons, the most important of which is removing the possibility of using In Private Browsing from the students, and dealing with plugin-updates for the non digital natives (read dumber than a bag of hammers users) that make up the majority of the client base.
We're testing ESR now, but just found out that end of life for 3.6 is tomorrow, 4/24. We are currently in the middle of statewide online testing. The question is, what will happen tomorrow when the browser goes end of life. The ESR wiki mentions that "an update to the current version of Desktop Firefox will be offered through the Application Update Service"
So the main question is, are my students/teachers going to get a popup telling them they have to update the browser if we have the updates already turned off? If so, can I turn it off remotely using SCCM, because it will cause all kinds of havoc.
Please advise asap, and thanks in advance.

We had to do some serious gymnastics to remove at least most of the ability to use IPB. We removed it from the gui, but unfortunately, if they know the hotkey, they can still bring it up. Security has some serious headaches with this, as by law they have to be able to track where students go, and going with private browsing removes their ability to do forensic work they're required to be able to do. Not a very well thought out feature from Mozilla in my opinion, but it is what it is. Successive versions have made it even more difficult to remove even the gui portion.
We do plan to release ESR due to the aforementioned security issues, but testing has been slow.
But thanks for the reply. I think we can turn off the updates if it isn't already done.

  • Very large bdump file sizes, how to solve?

    Hi gurus,
I currently always find my disk space is not enough, after checking, it is the oraclexe/admin/bdump, there's currently 3.2G for it, my database is very small, only holding datas of 10mb.
It didn't happen before, only currently.
I don't know why it happened, I have deleted some old files in that folder, but today I found it is still very large compare to my database.
I am running an apex application with xe, the applcaitions works well, we didn't see anything wrong, but only the bdump file very big.
any tip to solve this? thanks

  • Numbers file sizes very large

I've noticed that file sizes in Numbers are very large. I was using Excel for a long time and all the files I created were between 20-30KB. The files consisted of an Excel workbook, with 1-2 worksheets in it. The same files in Numbers are 200-300KB and if I save them over the network from another computer to my computer, they jump up to over 1MB. Any ideas on this?

    Hello
Nothing to do with graphics items.
An XL file as well as an AppleWorks one is a compiled document in which many components are stored in a very compact shape. One byte was sufficient in AW to represent an operand as they where aboutone hundred.
In Numbers, everything is described in pure text with complementary delimiters.
When a formula uses the operand "COUNTBLANK" this one appears with its 10 letters.
In XL as well as in AW6, a date is stored as a floating number while in Numbers it's stored as the string "mercredi 23 janvier 2008 22:33:19"
Sama thing for every attributes of every cell.
So this results in a huge file store in XML format. To spare space, when we close a document, the XML file is packed in .gz format.
This is the Index.xml.gz file that we may see clicking a Numbers document wit ctrl depressed and selecting the contextual menu item "Show Package's contents".
Double click onto Index.xml.gz will unpack it.
    giving the expanded Index.xml file.
I assumes that they are applications dedicated to XML files.
I don't know them so I just drag and drop the XML file onto a free text editor named Bean which I find really interesting.
Doing that, we may examine the file's contents.
If someone knows a correct free application able to open and display correctly the XML files, I'm interested

  • Very Large Numbers Question

I am a student with a question about how Java handles very large numbers. Regarding this from our teacher: "...the program produces values that
are larger than Java can represent and the obvious way to test their size does not
work. That means that a test that uses >= rather than < won?t work properly, and you
will have to devise something else..." I am wondering about the semantics of that statement.
Does Java "know" the number in order to use it in other types of mathematical expressions, or does Java "see" the value only as gibberish?
I am waiting on a response from the teacher on whether we are allowed to use BigInteger and the like, BTW. As the given program stands, double is used. Thanks for any help understanding this issue!

    You're gonna love this one...
    package forums;
    class IntegerOverflowTesterator
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        int i = Integer.MAX_VALUE -1;
        while (i>0) {
          System.out.println("DEBUG: i="+i);
          i++;
}You also need to handle the negative case... and that get's nasty real fast... A positive plus/times a positive may overflow, but so might a negative plus a negative.
This is decent summary of the underlying problem http://mindprod.com/jgloss/gotchas.html#OVERFLOW.
The POSIX specification also worth reading regarding floating point arithmetic standards... Start here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POSIX I guess... and I suppose the JLS might be worth a look to http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/typesValues.doc.html

  • WSUS Updates to Available and Required collections - multiple deployment packages?

Hi, I'm trying to follow various documents but cannot find a single unified methodology for how WSUS updates are now supposed to work
I am creating software update Groups and trying to keep them under 1000 updates each as they take 2 hours or so.
So i have a Pre2103, All2013, 2014January to May, 2014 June to September and starting from this month i will do one monthly
My Client base is servers or workstations. I have 2 collections - Available (DCs SQl etc that need manual intervention) and Required (everything else)
So i now create a deployment package for each group - but now i have to do that twice? Once for available collection and once for required collection? Am i missing an easier/better way of doing this?
Once these have all been set up do i then have to deploy them with an ADR? Inject them into the Gold image of my workstations?
I would like the internal WSUS to work exactly like (or as near as can be) to the way microsoft's works. EG if i take a vanilla windows 7 or 8 build and connect it to my network, it gets the GPO, installs the client then goes to SCCM and gets alll the updates
to bring itself up to date without me having to then go back into SCCM and create a specifc deployment of job or to manually send out anything.
Or will this only work when the collection gets updated and is aware of the new computer?
    Thanks

OK i'm doing this now. As in the initial message i posted, everything up til 14th October is
done and dusted. I have 4x Software Update groups. Pre2013, All2013,2014JantoMay and
    2104JunetoSept
For each of these groups, i created a Folder under the root All Software Updates", filtered
my searches and moved each grou of updates into its own folder for neatness, as well as a
    "Superseded and Expired" folder
To deploy each of these i HAD to create a deployment package for each. Only done "Required"
so far so i have 4 Deployment packages.
So, now i am going to step through what i think i need to do to set up updates released on or
    after 14/10/2014
I have no software update group or deployment package for October's releases and no ADRs at
    all.
Just a list of 232 updates in All Software Updates. I deleted expired and superseded etc.
In this view, there are 64 Assets total. 7 unknown!!? What does this even mean? How do i find
out which are unknown? In the all device list, they are either clients or not. Nothing says
    unknown!! Anyway thats for later...
    I have 2x collections. WSUS-Available (x23) and WSUS-Required (x41)
None of the 232 updates are downloaded and theres a mixture of required not required and
    percent compliant. .
I have a workstation on the domain and have run a windows update (updates managed by my
system administrator) and it says Up to date - and it takes ages.
If i change this to "Check fromo Microsoft" i get 42 important updates and 34 optional
updates available. This is my target scenario to hit from SCCM WSUS
    OK here goes.
I select all 232 updates and move them to a folder called 2014October
i go to Automatic Deployment Rules and Create a new one called WSUS2014Oct-Required
    select Patch Tuesday Template
    Collection is WSUS-Required
create a new software update group
    Auto Deploy
Released last 2 weeks - every update classification
Run on a schedule - every second tuesday
    Client local time
1hour / as soon as possible
    default/default/default
now i need to create a new deployment package. Call it WSUS2014Oct
Point it at sources and a folder called 2104October
Now i choose Download software updates from a location on my network and select the local
    drive "E:\WSUS\WSUSContent" folder
So now i have a "Required" ADR and i click Run Now
BUT now i need to do one for the Available group as well. I notice that during the ADR i
    cannot select Required or Available.
So i guess i need to suppress reboots on Servers then?
Also if i am using the same deployment package, why do i need to reselct the download
location again? its the same updates
Also, now that i have 2x ADRs the first one i created creates the deployment package and the
second ADR now points to that deployment package too so i now dont have separate packages to
    monitor
Also, after running them both i get errors and no software update groups are created. So im
guessing thats the problem as the error is 0x80070002 the file you specificed could not be
    found
also get error on the available group saying Auto Deployment Rule download failed
This is ridiculous. Why does creating an ADR allow creation of a SUG if it doesnt work.
    Very frustrated

  • Very slow deployment with in-process=true

    Hi,
I'm in the process of porting an enterprise application (packaged into a single EAR file) from JBoss to OC4J.
For now, the biggest part of the application (which is still under development) is an ejb-module with about 66 entity beans with a total of 243 CMR- and 536 CMP-fields. The remaining parts are a few session beans and a few simple web-applications.
One of the problems I'm experiencing during porting the application is the very slow deployment of enterprise beans on oc4j, especially when having set in-process=true.
Deployment on JBoss 3.2.4RC1 takes 28 seconds.
    Deployment on OC4J 9.0.4.0.0 takes 20 minutes (cpu-time!).
My deployment platform is an Intel P4, 1.4 GHz, 1024 MB RAM, MS Windows NT 4.0, Sun J2SDK 1.4.2_04.
    OC4J is started with "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe -verbose:gc -Xms192m -Xmx256m -DassociateUsingThirdTable=true -jar oc4j.jar -userThreads -verbosity 10". OC4J is configured to perform in-process compilation.
So far my investigation shows that OC4J is spending a few minutes probably for analyzing and generating wrapper/proxy classes. Then it starts the in-process compilation which accounts for the bigger part of the 20 minutes.
During that time, "-verbose:gc" shows that it's spending only the usual amount of a few milliseconds per second for GC.
I also had a look at the generated wrapper/proxy classes. The size of some files is intimidating. The biggest one has a size of 1,566,791 bytes (31,930 lines) (- seems that it consists of 95% duplicated code ;-)). This generated source file belongs to a entity beans that I wouldn't describe as being really huge: it has 25 CMP- and 18 CMR fields.
But this is probably not the cause for the extreme slow-down:
Another test with in-process=false was much faster (when compared to the former test): about 2 minutes 30 seconds.
But actually this is still very slow.
Is this a known problem or am I the only one experiencing slow deployments?
How can I speed up deployment times?
    Suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Stefan Schmidt

No TAR yet as this is currently one of the minor problems with OC4J. :-( I'll file a TAR after we've solved some more pressuring problems here.
For now I use in-process=false. Which is still slow, but at least I see can see the reason for this: it simply takes javac some time to compile the generated junk of java sources.

  • Populating Deployment/Packages on the new Dashboard?

I've just updated to the new CCP on the systems I use to build Windows and Mac install packages. The enhanced Deployment panel sounded like something we really needed, particularly the ability to get timely notifications about updates. However, when I opened it up after updating CCP and went to the Deployment/Packages tab, it told me "No Packages created so far." Is there any way to point it to the (large) library of install packages I already have built or will this just work with packages I build from here on?
    Thanks,
    Ric

I had re-created my ear project with the same parameter and it's work.
I hope, it won't be necessary to do this often.

  • Grid Control Architecture for Very Large Sites: New Article published

A new article on Grid Control was published recently:
Grid Control Architecture for Very Large Sites
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/havewala-gridcontrol.html

    Oliver,
Thanks for the comments. The article is based on practical experience. If one was to recommend a pool of 2 management servers for a large corporate with 1000 servers, what that would mean is that if 1 server was brought down for any maintenance reason (for eg. applying an EM patch), all the EM work load would be on the remaining management server. So it is better to have 3 management servers instead of 2 when the EM system is servicing so many targets. Otherwise, the DBAs would be a tad angry since only 1 remaining managment server would not be able to service them properly during the time of the maintainance fix on the first management server.
The article ends with these words: "You can easily manage hundreds or even *thousands* of targets with such an architecture. The large corporate which had deployed this project scaled easily up to managing 600 to 700 targets with a pool of just three management servers, and the future plan is to manage *2,000 or more* targets which is quite achievable." The 2000 or more is based on the same architecture of 3 managment servers.
So as per the best practice document, 2 management servers would be fine for 1000 servers, although I would still advise 3 servers in practice.
For your case of 200 servers, it depends on the level of monitoring you are planning to do, and the type of database managment activities that
will be done by the DBAs. For eg, if the Dbas are planning on creating standby databases now and then through Grid Control, running backups daily
via Grid Control, cloning databases in Grid Control, patching databases in Grid Control and so on, I would definitely advise a pool of 2 servers
in your case. 2 is always better than 1.

  • Procedure for update ACS 5.4.0.46.0a with cumulutative patch in large deployment

    Hi,
I try to find the info within the CCO website but fail.
All docs I found on the site is Upgrading for 5.3 to 5.4  or 5.4 to 5.5
In my case I would like just apply cumulutative patch to my existing 5.4 running deployment.
    5.4.0.46.0a to 5.4.0.46.6
My main concern is I use a large deployment scenario with multiple secondary server and one log collector.
The upgrade procedure mention, de-register all server one by one and change the log collector to be a standalone primary server.
Which cause me more downtime, loss of some logs, ...
For applying patch (update not upgrade), I think I can just use the pacth procedure and leave the setup as it is as I don't upgrade or change the database structure.
Update each server whenever the role he as (secondary, primary, log collector) one by one by just issue the :"acs patch install" command.
Does anyone have a advise or a past experience about update large deployment setup.
    Thanks for your help.
    Steve

    Hi Minakshi,
I perform the update before your post and I test without deregister all server.
    So far, all was good.
I had no issue and the update tooks me very less time without following the full UPGRADE procedure.
The command had also a rollback for the update, so I take the risk.
This is certainly not the case for upgrade but update seems to easier.
    Kind regards.
    Steve

  • Very large HEAPDUMP files are generated when executing BI Web reports NW7.0

    Dear Gurus,
    I´m facing a new problem.
When few users are working in Portal to execute BI Web reports and queries, the system stops and big files are generated in directory: /usr/sap/BWQ/DVEBMGS42/j2ee/cluster/server0
I´m using AIX 5.3. The files are these:
    2354248 Sep 29 12:31 Snap0001.20080929.153102.766064.trc
    1028628480 Sep 29 12:32 heapdump.20080929.153102.766064.phd
    0 Sep 29 12:32 javacore.20080929.153102.766064.txt
I was searching for any solution in SAP help and notes. I´ve read a lot of notes:
SAP Note 1030279 - Reports with very large result sets-BI Java
SAP Note 1053495 - Settings to get a heapdump with IBM JVM on AIX
SAP Note 1008619 - java.lang.OutOfMemoryError in BEx Web Applications

SAP Note 1044330 - Java parameterization for BI systems
SAP Note 1025307 - Composite note for NW2004s performance: Reporting
But still not having found an answer to solve this problem.
In note 1030279 there is written:
?We will provide an optimization of the memory requirement in the next Support Package Stack. With this optimization, you can display a report as "stateless", so that the system can then immediately release the memory that is required to set up the result set.?
I´m using Support Stack 15 for ABAP and Java, but I don´t have more information about this problem or stateless function in another note. And I don´t know how can I use this STATELESS function in BI.
Anobody have any idea to solve this problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Carlos

    Hi,
Heap dumps are generated when there is an inmbalance in Java VM parameterization..
Also please remove the parameter "-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError " in Config tool, so that heap dumps will not generated and fill up the disk space..
My advise is to send the heap dumps to SAP for recommendations.. Meanwhile check with SAP notes for Java VM recommendations..

  • What is the optimum core configuration for a new Mac Pro to process and manipulate very large (80 megapixel) images using PhotoShop and Camera Raw?

    Hello:
I will be using creative techniques to process and manipulate a large number (hundreds) of very large (80 megapixel) images captured using a medium format digital back (Phase One IQ180).
Final output will be digital fine art imagery printed using an Epson 11880 at large sizes (up to 60 inches x ?), retaining the highest possible quality and resolution. I will be using Adobe CC PhotoShop and Camera RAW as well as Capture One software. PhotoShop filters will be used extensively.
The Mac Pro needs to be optimized for the above purpose and be useful for at least five years. I plan to max out all the other options (RAM, graphics cards, storage). Performance is more important than cost.
The few discussions I have found that mention optimum core configurations seem to lean toward 6 or 8 (but likely are not taking into consideration my need for manipulating a large number of very large files), so I am looking to this foum for opinions.
