Very Low Battery / Resetting issue - lets make Apple fix this!!!

There appears to be a lot of posts within the last few weeks about the "Please wait, very low battery" message and constant resets EVEN ON A FULL BATTERY. I too have begun to experience this problem. I can only think that there is some kind of bug that has been introduced with the latest firmware and itunes combo. Can anyone that it experiencing this issue, PLEASE put your experiences in a reply to this thread. As an addition to my post below, I have also heard that using the prior version to the latest Itunes in conjunction with the latest may also be the root of this problem. I have been using two itunes, the latest at home and a slightly older one at work. Can anyone shed anymore light on this possibility?
This is from a reply post I made earlier tonight:
I noticed my ipod 5th gen 60 gig was strangely in the red on battery life, so I connected it to my macbook pro and answered a few emails. I then noticed out of the corner of my eye that the ipod resetting. Weird! I had never seen it do this while attached to the computer. So, I went back into itunes and it said something about not disconnecting the device physically - some how the pod had reset and disconnected itself. So, I re-attached it, and moments later, it reset again. Instead of attaching to the computer, I attached the pod to a wall powered usb charger (non-official). After a few minutes, the pod said it was fully charged (weird), so I disconnected it. I thought I should check to see if it was playing music ok and started playing a song. It seemed ok, so I skimmed through a few tracks. Soon the ipod reset itself and started to continuously reset as if in a loop. After several reset attempts (menu and select) I was presented with a "Please wait, very low battery" message screen...
Hmmmm. I thought I should attach it to the wall charger and leave it to re-charge, thinking that the battery must be just plain out of juice. I got past the very low battery message and into the menu with a reset. Strangely, the battery showed as being fully charged... Disconnecting the pod and playing several songs again, the unit reset and showed the low battery message... Leaving the pod attached to the wall charger, even though it said it was fully charged, didn't remedy the problem. More resets when playing a song or two.
Initially I thought that it was a faulty battery. But, before I jumped to conclusions, I googled the above message. This showed me that this is a reasonably common issue with several possible causes. Some of the suggestions to remedy the issue included:
* Reset the ipod - nope, same problem
* Restore the ipod - did this first up... No go
* Put the unit into disk mode attach and restore - nope
* Drain the battery completely and then re-charge on wall charger - nope
* Open the unit, disconnect the battery, and re-attach - I really thought this would work, but nope.
* Disconnect unit, insert wall powered usb, start unit to reset it - nope
* Buy a new battery - NOPE, same thing keeps happening even with a FRESH battery!!!
* Put the unit into diagnostic mode and then charge... This kind of worked in the fact that it actually charged the new battery...
It appears to me that the battery status is all out of whack. The OS seems to think that the battery is completely full, and hence, doesn't take a charge. Equally, even though it says there is a full charge, after the unit plays one or two tracks (requiring a few harddrive seeks I suppose) it will exclaim that there is no battery remaining, reset loop and eventually enter "very low battery" mode. It does the latter even if the battery is new and appears to have been charged (via the diag screen).
So, where to from here... Well not entirely sure, but I reckon that what I have to do is drain the fully charged battery WHILE the unit is active. Perhaps then, it will re-calibrate its internal battery meter... Right now, I have been able to put the pod into disk mode and it is actually showing a battery icon WITHOUT the fully charged symbol (the little plug icon). It also shows a slight depletion in battery remaining. My hope is that this depletion will get bigger over the next few days and, if it does, it may right the funny loop-like state it is in.
Has anyone got ANY other ideas as to how to fix this problem. As a side note, I updated the pod to firmware 1.3 recently. I am considering a restore using an older firmware. Where can I track down 1.2? Can I press the option key and click restore to choose an alternative restore image from the 1.3 already in itunes?
Any suggestions/help is EXTREMELY welcome as I am almost about to give up...

I think my problem actually might be the same ... the other day it was full battery one minute, and the next it was saying "Please connect to power, low battery". I wasn't near a power source, so i just left it. Then it started making this funny whirling sound and the screen went silvery blank, so i figured it was the hard drive crashing. I hooked it up to the computer overnight and the next day I could at least get the apple on the screen to show up and the computer would recognize it somewhat. When it's hooked up to the computer it goes from the apple screen, to please wait, very low battery, to the regular screen with a fully charged battery sign, to the "do not disconnect" screen with the battery charging.. When the "do not disconnect" screen appears, sometimes the computer recognizes it. But when it comes up it first says that an unknown error (-124)has occured and the ipod cannot be synced. And then it says the disk cannot be read or written to. After I press okay again, the screen goes to the apple and back to the please wait very low battery screen... and then in tunes it says the ipod cannot be synced because the required folder cannot be found. Then it comes up again and says iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings. Now I would try to do that, but I don't have a summary tab in the preferences, if the preference tab they refer to is under the edit section. For the couple of seconds the my ipod settings appear on the screen, the files on it aren't even the same as before. It says I only have 7.78GB of only songs on my 30GB. Not only do I have more than 7.78 GB of songs normally on my ipod, I have videos and games that also should appear. Everytime it reconnects however, the GB go down? Now its at 6.07GB
It also makes this beeping sound randomly. Sometimes it when the ipod goes into the very low battery screen, but sometimes it beeps during the apple screen, or sometimes during the do not disconnect screen.
The most frustuating thing for me is that about mid-March I sent my iPod away to get a new battery before my warrantee was up. I got it back the first week of April, good turn around period, but instead of getting my old ipod back, I got a refurbished one. Now this is happening to it, and my warantee is already up. I know it can't be the battery that's wrong with it, there may be something wrong with it, but I'm sure they know better than to give me an ipod with a dead ipod.
Now it's coming up as 5.77 GB . . .
When it first happened, I was hoping that I could simply hook it up to the computer and click the restore button. This is impossible however because I can never get to the restore button before the computer unrecognizes my ipod.

  • Skype won't log out! (lets make them fix this!)

I can't find a valid post for this sort of thing, but it ends here & now.
There is no reason that is acceptable to the users of Skype, that should continue to allow it's program "Skype" to forcibly keep us logged in, be it as online, away or otherwise.
No, it is not acceptable to force us to have to go thru endless solutions to try an fix something that used to work correctly before microsoft took over Skype.
THE PROBLEM - Skype will not log us out & keep us logged out when we close the program on ANY platform.
THE SOLUTION - Microsoft/Skype & it's related staff/teams/coders/etc need to return this function to the way it was, & because of the era of smart phones an some users wanting to keep the silly function most of us hate an want gone, accept this idea additionally. Allow THOSE users the option of clicking their status to forever online, give it in the status menu or even somewhere in options but forcing the majority of us users to have to fight this battle is unacceptable!
    Other notes:
[Your label system for making posts doesn't allow the proper tags as I know them to be, so I threw in all the ones you forcibly listed as I couldn't make this post any other way. Fix that crap too skype.]
I'm not going to read this post after this point, me the starting person. This is an effort to try an get the people who manage this program to take notice & do something acceptable to OUR demands NOT what they feel is a solution.
Perhaps a flame war will result, hate for my name, god knows such things are common place when someone tries to do something good, not to mention all the idiots who lack reading comprehension skills an cannot understand the posts as they are written vs what they "want to read".
I hope this gets the ball rolling for the intended solution, the users must rally to this cause or it will never happen, we will continue to be forced to "deal with it" an we shouldn't have to as some of us are CASH PAYING CUSTOMERS! an our demands should be taken more seriously otherwise we can/will/an should take our biz somewhere else as that is the only thing that seems to grab a stupid companies attention.
Have at it guys, make e'm work for the money they think they've earned!
    Nothing to see here..

Hi, Waterdust, and welcome to the Community,
THE PROBLEM - Skype will not log us out & keep us logged out when we close the program on ANY platform.
The concept of "closing the program" seems to have changed or evolved with the increasing use of smart phones, combination smartphones and tablets called "phablets," and tablets, which if I recall sales trends correctly, have overtaken laptop and desktop sales.  I have been either an observer of or a participant in Skype's on-line Community since approximately 2007-2008, in other words, before the current Community platform was launched in 2011.  Over the years, many people have posted about their wish that when they clicked the "X" at the top right of the Skype for Windows software client, or the red dot in the Mac OS environment, that single-click action would a.) close the program, and b.) sign out of Skype.
I prefer the long-standing procedure of the two-step (one more click or tap does not phase me in the least) close and/or quit routine.  I appreciated this on my Windows computers and laptops, and now even moreso on my BlackBerry devices (Q10 and Classic), iPhone 6, and iPad.   I like the convenience of Skype running in the background while I use the handheld device for other tasks, as well as not having to worry about accidentally signing out of Skype.
Much to so many other posters' chagrin, Skype employed a two-step sign-out and program closure - long before Microsoft or even eBay entered the picture!
There is no reason that is acceptable to the users of Skype, that should continue to allow it's program "Skype" to forcibly keep us logged in, be it as online, away or otherwise.
If I understand correctly, what you are referring to is the "presence" or status setting problems: Online - Away - Invisible - Offline.  For the sake of clarification only, this is technically not a problem with keep[ing] us logged in.  I refer to this blog article and continuing discussion here:  http://community.skype.com/t5/News-and-Announcements/UPDATED-Changes-to-your-Skype-online-status/ba-...
I confirm that when I set my status or presence setting to "Invisible" (or, "Offline") on all instances where I have Skype signed on (first click or tap), and then proceed to sign out (second click or tap) and close the software (third click or tap), I am logged out of the Skype service, and my status of Invisible shows this.   I appreciate the status settings resolutions are apparently work-in-progress, and that it seems to have been a long time to settle this.
Looking forward to reading a thoughtful dialogue.  Flame-throwing is neither necessary nor in the context of providing constructive feedback.  Please, let us all keep this on-line community's Community Guidelines in mind as we continue this discussion.
    Best regards,

  • Please wait very low battery then logo apple

    i have an ipod classic
which gives very low battery then it gives apple logo then tafer that it gives a sing and it said (apple.com/support)

If it is just a fully discharged battery, you need to connect it for about 30 minutes before the iPod Screen comes back to life and show the charging symbols.
But since you have plug it in for 3 hours, and there is no sign of life, then have the battery replaced, connecting it for 30 hours is also of no use, as the battery wont charge, and the moment you disconnect it, the iPod will go off.
    Have a nice day!

  • My 30gb keeps restarting/rebooting and say "please wait. very low battery" help?

ITs has the Apple Logo Then It Make Funny Mechanic Sounds Then Say "Please Wait. Very Low Battery" The Screen Never Lites Up and It Does the same process over again rebooting with the same screens. never has the chance to connect to computer and at one point said www.apple.com/support. i don't the OS

Here's what I did today and so far so good.
I charged the ipod using a firewire cable, which seems to work for charging as does my other auxiliary chargers, car etc. When on these powered chargers the ipod works fine, but no ability to sync.
Did many resets while on the charger.
I put the hold button on and very quickly swapped from the firewire to the USB, low and behold it boots, syncs and charges.
I did a full restore and disabled disk use.
It's syncing now, I'll let you know if it messes up again.

  • Very low battery/restoring

Okay, so I got my 5th generation iPod video for Christmas 2 years ago. It has worked fine up until the last couple of months. I turn my iPod on, and a sad iPod icon is displayed. I checked on apple's support website, thinking that this was a problem that could be fixed there. I followed the instructions trying to force my iPod into disk mode(which supposedely indicates that my problem is not a hardware problem)..and it worked. So then it says to restore your iPod. So I forced iPod into disk mode, plugged it up to the computer and pulled up iTunes. Then itunes says that it detects a "corrupted" iPod and has to restore. So i clicked ok. After about 2 minutes, iPod is no longer recognized on the computer, but iTunes is still trying to restore. iPod just keeps resetting itself and occiasionally displays the "very low battery" screen. Eventually, iTunes just freezes up the whole computer. Any ideas on how to fix this? How can iPod stay connected(recognized) to the computer long enough to restore?

I fyou have synced this once with iTunes, it would already been backed up. But make sure to double check this first.

Welcome, sorry to hear your news, there are numerous threads on this issue. Try the trouble shooting on the other threads, I do not recommend sticking it in the freezer or heating with a hair dryer though,
If it's within warranty and trouble shooting doesn't work, get it. Ack to apple ASAP and get it replaced.
Many others are in the same position, who also have a 4s

  • Warning very low battery

Ok well my friend's Video Ipod just spazzed out on her. When she plugs it into her computer it says "Warning very low battery". Then she plugged it into her wall charger and it charges and works like a charm. Then she charged it, took it off and it DOESNT WORK!! So she plugged it into her computer and it still comes up with the same message. I did the 5 r's (which really never work) and then I noticed a lot of people are having problems with their ipods after downloading Itunes 7. Could the two be related? please help??

I have determined that the firmware 1.2.1 is the causing this issue. I tried restoring my ipod using the 1.2.1 firmware, but the same thing was happening (no charge via usb). After reading the speculation here and exhausting my all my options I went to the apple store and discussed this behavior. Of course they had never heard of this issue before. I mentioned that I this started happening only after the 1.2.1 update. So what we did was downgraded the firmware to 1.2. This can be done be deleting the newer firmware downloads from this location:
    /users/[home]/library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
After the 1.2.1 files have been deleted (don't delete the 1.2 files) it should be possible to install the 1.2 firmware. After doing so....guess what...MY IPOD STARTED CHARGING VIA USB. This problem doesn't seem to be effecting everyone. If anyone else is having this issue, point out this post to the people at the genius bar. Apple should be made aware this is an issue.

  • HELP!!! Very Low Battery

Whenever I plug my iPod into a computer or charger it says very low battery. But I can keep it in overnight and it will either shut down or still say very low battery. Whats going on?

I took mine to the apple store in Chandler, AZ and they said it's a USB charging issue. The dude had a double cable that he hooked my ipod into. One side was USB the other was Firewire. He got it to work via firewire, but not usb. He said that firewire is soley for charging, not transfering data. It worked for a while. I dropped it off at home before I went to work, once I came back home it did the same thing. I have a friend who has an old firewire cable for his older ipod. I'm going to try that.
So, we have learned that the problem is caused by the battery draining all the way, right?
Apple must know about this since it's a pretty common problem. Why aren't they doing anything about it? If it's a common defect, then why no recall or anything?

  • "Please wait, very low battery" display

    Hi,
My iPod is displaying the message "please wait, very low battery" on the dark screen with a picture of a battery.  I have tried to reset it (holding down menu and select button) but the apple logo comes up (on a very dark screen as well) and then it goes back to the low battery message.  I have had it plugged into a USB for 2 hours so I don't see how it could still be very low battery to the point where the screen does not even light up.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

It's likely that the battery is shot and in need of replacement.  You can choose to have Apple replace it or a third party repair company at a lower cost.

  • Stuck on "Please Wait, Very Low Battery"!

I have a 30G ipod with video, and recently i fell asleep with it on. I'm assuming the battery completely drained. I plugged it in the next day, and I get the animated message "Please Wait. Very Low Battery." It will not leave this screen. I've kept it on several hours at a time but it doesn't seem to do anything. iTunes doesn't recognize it either, and I've tried resetting, reinstalling iTunes, AND even reinstalling the driver itself. PLEASE help!?

Currently, I am having the exact same problem. I have reset numerous times. I have tried ten different USB ports on three computers, and with two different USB cables. This problem comes up a lot with my 80GB 5.5 gen. Any time the battery gets below half full, it refuses to charge through a USB port, and it has done so since January. This seems like a pervasive problem, and I guess I just want there to be a solution that isn't replacement because tons of people are having the same issue so replacement probably won't solve it.

  • I have an IPOD Classic 30GB.  I thought the battery was not recharging so I bought a new battery and had it installed.  The device will come on and has a message on the screen "Please wait.  Very low battery."

I have an IPOD Classic 30GB.  It would not stay on but a few seconds so I thought the battery was not recharging and bought a new battery.  I charged the new battery overnight and when I turned it on I could see the apple for only a few seconds and it would go off.  I tried the trouble shooting suggestions and reset the device. The screen is frozen with the message "Please Wait.  Very low battery." I also thought it might be a problem with the display but since it is on now, I'm not sure what is going on with it.

There are several types of iPods that are "30GB," 3rd gen ("dock connector"), 4th gen ("click wheel" or "photo"), and 5th gen ("video").  This documents shows the iPod models

I have worked my way through the assistant and nothing works. I have tried connecting in disc mode but although the screen on the ipod is showing that the device is charged and that it is in disc mode as soon as I connect it to the computer it comes up with the error message 'please wait very low battery' and stays like that until I disconnect when it appears to be OK again. I have tried on both pc and mac.
BTW the ipod is an ipod video not classic if that makes any difference.
