Very low network speed.

Hi everyone.
This is my first post at this forum. And belive I have tried many other different forums before reaching this one.
Oh well. So here is my problem. My macbook is connected to a LAN using Airport, everything is set up manually. And when im trying to upload files using either samba or ftp I get speeds around 20kbs. Okay, I know I should not expect a lot using wifi to transfer files over the network. But come on, 20kbs upload? The irony is that I get higher speed uploading to a server way outside my network then on my lan, using airport.
THe server im connecting to on my LAN is a Debian unstable server using proftpd and a samba server. Everything is fine from another pc in my home, and usually get speeds aroun 8-10Mbs. So I dont think the problem are really on my server.
Both the server and my macbook has disabled Ipv6 in an atempt to rule out any misconfiguration. But to no availe.
I searched this forum a few hours ago and got this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=613316&#613316 followed it and got nothing.
So, what should I do?
PS, and this is very important. I have tried to use the ethernet on my LAN to transfer files as well, but get the same speeds. But from my pc to mac, it flows like normal I.E 8-10MBs.

The Internet is the only way to synchronize Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile. It's unfortunate that you have a slow Internet connection.

  • Very slow network speed

Since I changed from Mac OS 9.2.2 to Mac OS X 10.3.9 on my dual 450 Power Mac i am having always the same problem. after some new starts my network speed becommes very slow. internet, printer connection and also when using personal file sharing. Folder of 22MB takes about 1 hour insted of 3 seconds to send from one mac to the other. I was trying on both HD´s and with only security update from CD before using Internet. I also have to repair volume permissions.tried reset of PRAM. tried it with both HD´s separately installed, sometimes it helped for short time. but unfortunately I always get the problem also when I am not using intenet connection after installing 10.3.9 on a completely empty HD (also tried to formate mith zeros). On my other mac´s: G3 (400MHz), G4 (500MHz) PowerBook and Power Mac G4 450(single)
the system is working without any problem. same settings! Only the Power Mac G4 dual 450 I am having this problem. Software like Photoshop, X-Press and also Maxxon 4D are running fast and without problems. Please help me!!!

  • Very low upload speed on Skype?

I had low download and upload speed on Skype for a while. I have fixed the download speed by resetting the settings. My upload speed is still very low. A speed test says I have 18 mbps download and 5 mbps upload. My download speed went from about 5 kbps to 150 kbps after the reset. My upload speed, however has stayed at about 5 kbps. Please help me.

    Yes, that doesn't look good.

  • Very Low Upload Speed

I wonder if anyone can help, as the BT helpdesk have refused to acknowledge that I have a problem. My BT Infinity Download speed os very good, around 30 mbits/sec. My Upload speed is very very poor, if fluctuates between 0.3 and 0.5 mbits/sec. If I use wireshark to capture the packets used when the BT Wholesale test is running I can see that I have a high packet loss rate for outgoing packets. So something is wrong. I remotely control the PC in my office from my home PC and the performance of this is definitely a lot poorer than it was recently. Kids have also complained about Itunes and stuff. Loss of packets on the outgoing link will damage download performance as the TCP ACKs are not getting back to teh data sender. Any advice on howe I can get BT to accept I have some kind of fault and do something about it? Their recommendation was that I get Business Broadband!!!!

  • Very low Upload Speed. How can I increase this?

Hi there, new to the forums with my post.
I'm a frequent online gamer and have the Bt unlimited package as a result. However over the past month I've been experiencing high latency spikes or just high latency in general upward of 1000ms. Naturally this makes any form of gaming impossible. During this past month I've conducted many speed tests and only recently discovered that my upload speeds are ridiculously low, ranging from 0.02mbps to a maximum of 0.06mbps. I believe this is what is causing my lag issues.
My question is. What can I do to resolve this and raise my upload speed to an acceptable standard?

  • Very low upload speeds for several weeks

I am long time FIOS user. Love it.
I have been seeing reasonable good 30MB download speeds, but the upload whch should in in the 15MB
range has been at 2 to 2.5 for several weeks.DNS also seems spotty, sometimes good, somestimes bad.
    I have done the following
    - Disconnected battery in ONT, and then its power to reset.
    - Powered off/recycled  Actiontec router
    - Removed all other ethernet wired connected devices from router
    - Shutdown wireless side of actiontec
    - Tested with mutltiple PCs. No firewalls in the stream, nor VPNs etc
    - Tested with virgin Windows 7, which doesn't need Fios Optimized tool
    - Tested with Linux base PC
    - Removed all STBs from cable to make sure wasnt getting MOCA related issue
    - Changed ehternet cable, so set up is 2 feet from PC to actiontek, 4 feet (coax) from actiontec to ONT
    - Tested speed using FIOS, DSLReports and other testing methods, all producing same result
I'm fairly sure this is network based. Does anyone see similiar issue. I am based in Westchester NY.
    Any help would be appreciated.

In general, you probably need to optimize
But try to do the following, and send us the info so we can pour over it
Test on a hardwired machine only
    Test at http://speedtest.verizon.net only
After Results are displayed you will get a message at the bottom that will display your results. cut and paste them here.

  • Extremly low network speed on NAS access

    Hi,
I've serial problems with my network. The speed does does not allow to run Time Machine on my NAS (Buffalo LS-WXL).
It takes some times minutes to open display the content of rectory of
Even with my new infrastructure: CAT7 cable, CAT 6a connectorand netgear LS108E Switch (Gigabit), iMac 27 (2010) there is no improvement.
The max. speed is 6-7 MB/s.
If I run a Windows PC with the same infrastructure it works with 35-20 MB/s, which is not really convincing in a Gigabit network, but much better comared to the MAC.
I'am running the NAS with the AFP-protocoll.
Does anyone know what to do?
    Thanks in advanced,
    best regards
    Thomas

That device is unsupported by Apple and unsuitable for use with Time Machine. I know this isn't the answer you want, and I also know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and that it usually seems to work. Except when you try to restore, and find that you can't.
If you want network backup with Time Machine, use as the destination either an Apple Time Capsule or an external hard drive connected to another Mac or to an 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only the 802.11ac base stations support Time Machine, not any older model.
If you're determined to keep using the NAS for backup, your only recourse for any problems that result is to the manufacturer (which will blame Apple.)

  • Very low upload speed or long response times

    Hi,
Just connected my Airport Extreme. Unfortunately, the upload speed appears to be extremely slow. Checking my connection using Speedtest.net reveals that it takes very long for my workstation to connect to the Speedtest server via my APExt, before it starts uploading the testpackage. I've also tested the performance of my ADSL connection by directly plugging a workstation into the DSL modem and retesting the connection via Speedtest.net. This shows a normal response between the client and the server.
How do I further diagnose this problem? I didn't have this problem before a replaced my Sitecom wireless router with the Airport Extreme.
    Thanks,
    J

And all that took was a firmware upgrade to version 7.6

  • Very low transfer speed issue on SUN4270 M2 server connected with nexus 5548 switch on 10GB fiber.

                       Hi,
I have 2 SUN 4270 M2 servers connected with Nexus 5548 switch over 10Gb fiber card. I am getting performance of just 60 MB per second while transfer of 5Gb file across 2 servers. The similar speed i use to get on 1Gb network also. Please suggest how to improve the tranfer speed. On servers, ports ET4 and ETH5 are bonded in bond0 with mode=1. The server envrionment will be used for OVS 2.2.2.

    Hi,
Thanks for reply..but the RX errors count is keep on increasing and the transfer speed between 2 servers are max 60MB/ps on 10GB FC card. Even on storage also, i am getting the same speed when i try to transfer data from server to storage on 10GB FC card. Servers and storage are connected through Nexus 5548 switch.

  • Very low connection speed.

Hi, I've waited the 10 days since I first got BT Broadband and I wondered about the slow speed I am getting. The speed test says my line is rated for 8mbit (8000kbit) but I only get up to 900kbit connection speed, it was around 600-700kbit for a while but now seems to have settled at 900~kbit. When I ordered the package the line check said I can get between 8 and 15megabit but should expect 8.5.
Is there a fault on the line? The online speed checker thing (which seems to have been replaced or I just can't find it anymore) said I should report a fault and that on my line I should be connecting at more like 6000kbit-7000kbit.
This is what my router says in the advanced connection page:

  • Very low network performance (Solaris8)!

    I'm using two Solaris8(4/01) PC.
Each PC consists of ASUS CUSL2-M (this mother board is listed in HCL) which has 3Com 3C920 onboard network controller.
I tested the network thoughput between them by the netperf, I got only 2.7M bit per sec!
    I also tested following:
    Solaris8(3C920) - Solaris8(Intel Pro/100) 2.6Mbps
    Solaris8(3C920) - Linux(Dec tulip) 81.2Mbps
What's wrong? Configuration problem? Device failure? Or driver problem?
Anyone tell me the solution, please.
    Thanks, yuki.

Well, in Netstat>Display Comprehensive Network Statistics for eac Protocol, the first one should be TCP:, and should look something like this...

  • Very low broadband speed

    Hello
I rejoined BT three weeks ago having spent two years with Zen. I was with BT prior to that and had moved to Infinity with sppeds of about 26Mbps - not great but adequate.
Nothing changed when I moved to Zen. Obviously the cabling and exchange was the same and no upgrade or modernisation has been carried out. The speed therefore remained the same.
I have had problems though since I moved back to BT with the broadband dropping out regularly. After about 8 calls to India taking up hours of my time and two engineer visits the fault has apparently been rectified.
Quite what was wrong seemed to chamge on a daily basis from a "missing port" in the Excchange to "noise on the line" to a "problem with the cabling on the telegraph pole".
The issue though now is the speed which has dropped to about 9Mbps. This seems bizarre if nothing has changed at the excahnge or with the cabling and is certainly nothiong ner the promised 30Mbps?
    Peter Atkinson

I reported the faulot and they are noiw saying that it's the Router.
Bizarrely though I came home at 2 today and the internet is back up and running.
It has got even slower though. It's now just over 8Mbps which is nowehere near what Infinity should be.
I've done the Wholsale Speed Test and it tells me:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 8.25 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 6.81 Mbps-8.52 Mbps .
     Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 8.52 Mbps
This cannot be right as it reached 27Mbps just over a month ago

Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

  • Very low transfer speed between two internal hdds

My configuration: MSI p55-GD65 with i5, 16GB RAM. My problem is with hdds, I have 5 5400rpm disks + 1 ssd, I know 5400rpm is slower than 7200rpm, but when I am transfering files (hd movies = couple big files), first 4-6GB is ok, but than, speed goes down from 50mbit/s to 8mbit/s.
First thing, try another hdd - nothing changed.
Second thing, format hdd - nothing changed.
Third thing, reinstall win - nothing changed.
Fourth thing, check all hdds with smart - everything ok.
So please, what is your opinion, where is the problem? Mainboard?

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-spinpoint-500gb,2347-4.html
That will take you to some benchmarking of a 7200rpm drive hooked to sata III (6 gb per sec)
Keep in mind that you have SATAII (3gb/sec) 5400 rpm
