Very low resolution previews using loupe in import dialog

Hi,
I had connected Canon 6D via usb to import photos to Lr. However in import dialog using loupe view I get very low resolution previews even if I zoom all way up. It doesn't make any changes in preview resolution, it's like 200x300 pixels at most. I shoot both raw and jpeg and it is the same. Tried full card format. Doesn't help. I can zoom normaly in camera screen. Is it related to the fact that I connected camera directly via usb instead of using card reader? I use latest Lr (5.6) and latest camera firmware (1.1.4).

A raw file usually has two previews embedded in it, a tiny thumbnail preview and a larger zoomable preview.  It sounds like LR is only able to retrieve the tiny thumbnail preview even though you are able to zoom in on previews in the camera.   Unless the camera, itself, is actually decoding the raw file to produce the zoomable preview and none is in the raw file for LR to see.
You can use the following website to investigate what previews are available in a raw file:  http://regex.info/exif.cgi  You want to click the Browse button next to Local Image File and navigate to a raw file and click Ok, then click the View Image From File button, then wait for the raw file to be uploaded, after which information about the raw file will be shown including the sizes of the previews and raw image.
As to your question about whether using a card reader might help, try it and see.  There could be a system driver getting in the way when the camera, itself, is plugged in.

  • Aperture 3 low resolution previews

    Hello all,
I've been using Aperture 3 for a few weeks now and loving it. I read in the forums about how previews are set to low resolution and i've been having problems trying to get them back to a high resolution image file. I've imported the photos in iPhoto 09 and exported them to Aperture 3 (which are high resolution image files) to do further enhancement. After working with them, i noticed that the resolution dropped significantly. As a test,I dragged a photo which i've worked on to the desktop and it gave me a very low resolution. I then tried to export the same file using the drop menu to the desktop but still a very low resolution. Is there a way to get them back to a high resolution image file?
The second thing i did was to export the photos to my mac gallery and so i uploaded them with the original files but i still get the photos that i've worked on with a low resolution. The original files are still in high resolution.
    Please advice and thanks everyone.
    Brian

It might help to clarify your workflow:
I've imported the photos in iPhoto 09 and exported them to Aperture 3
There is no way to "export photos" from iPhoto to Aperture, so how exactly did you get them there? Export/Import? Drag and Drop... from where to where?
After working with them, i noticed that the resolution dropped significantly.
What do you mean by "resolution"? Do you mean the dpi? The file size?
As a test,I dragged a photo which i've worked on to the desktop and it gave me a very low resolution.
This only produces a Preview, but again, what do you mean by "low resolution."

  • Video files show very low resolution poster image

Using Indesign CC and the latest tools and content viewer I am creating Autoplay video animations for the cover of our weekly magazine.
With each issue I have published the same problem occurs where the poster image for the video file is very low resolution and makes our content look very amateur (for a brief moment) before playing the video file at full resolution.
I have tried creating animations using flash, photoshop and Edge Animate, exporting MP4, MOV and OAM files. The problem is present with all movie files and with the Edge animation files a white flash appears before the file plays.
Is there a solution for either of these issues? We are looking to continue to use animations for our covers and need them to look 100% crisp and clean.

Sorry to jump in but I'm having the same issue too!
I have an H.264 mp4 which I created in After Effects and inserted using the Media panel within DPS.
As you see below, it plays on page load and I have chosen the finished front cover to be the poster image when it ends from within the Folio Overlays panel. I have set the video to stop on the last page.
When the video stops you can see all the artifacting around the text which I would expect to be as crisp as the original PSD file I uploaded as the poster image.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong or is there anything that can improve the quality of the final still?

  • Moving object between tabs results in very low resolution?

    Hello,
    I'm using Illustrator CS5
When I move an object to a new tab(drag and drop), the end reult is very low resolution/distorted image?
    Regards

    You are welcome, 1-2-3.
That alignment is the default for kinds of documents normally used for web and devices where it may be an advantage to work in whole pixels only. It is possible to change the setting for such documents.
What happens is that (part of) the artwork is moved to be contained within whole pixels, by the least possible amount. This also happens during creation so that the Anchor Points/whatever that you place are adapted, unless you place them at whole pixel positions, in other words small, maybe unnoticeable, corrections of what you do.
When you drag and drop, you basically just throw it into a new, normally off grid, position, and the parts of the artwork may be moved differently.
You may keep the undistorted shape even with Align to Pixel Grid ticked if you copy from the source document and then use Paste in Front/Place/Back in the receiving document.  You can also move it by whole pixels in either/both directions.
In any case, you may ask yourself whether you want (the individual parts of) the artwork to be contained within whole pixels, or more freely created. In the latter case, you should have Align to Pixel Grid unticked before you even start.

  • Why are my photos now appearing in very low resolution?

What happened to my sharp and clear photos? Why are my photos now very low resolution with a progress image appearing as a circle on the photo and filling in 1/4 of the circle.  Why are the photos very low resolution copies that look like crap? Where are the good sharp photos I took?

Latest iOS on iPad Air in photos. It appears server was slow. Progress bar circle now filling in complete circle and resolution is good.  Why do I have to download my photos from iCloud i have plenty of memory space on my ipad ?  Same with movies and music I purchased.  I bought extra physical
memory when I purchased my iPad so I could view my stuff regardless of whether I had a wifi connection...apparently not.

  • Startup Screen at very low resolution

When ever I turn on my macbook pro (late 2011) the start up screen with the white background and the apple logo is at a very low resolution and has black bars on eithier side of the screen. Then when it switches from that to the login screen the transition between the two screens is very pixelated. Then when it gets to the login screen everything is perfectly fine. How do I fix this? Thanks.

    Hello Reagan,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. The easiest way to solve the problem, is to reset the NVRAM, the following article will give information on what it is and how to go through that process.
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HT1551 Apple TV and iPad 2 very low resolution pictures - how to resolve please?

    Hi
We've just bought Apple TV and it works fine with Netflix, with good resolution etc.
However resolution is really poor and blurred when using iPad 2.
What's more when iPad 2 is near the TV Netflix also goes low resolution and fuzzy. I've been having to turn the iPad off to get the Netflix resolution back again.
Is there a solution to this please?
One other quick question - I downloaded the Remote app and it seems to work, except I have a completely blank screen on the iPad (except for controls along top and bottom edges. Is this how it's supposed to be?
    Thanks for advice.

I have had ATV for 6 months now and run it in AirPlay and through iTunes.  I recently updated my iMac software and had the same problem.  I restarted my iMac and the problem disappeared so maybe update your ATV and host system. Shut them both down/restart or reset and have another go.  If it has been working fine previously then my theory is that generally the router and hardware are good enough to carry the system and it must be something you/we have done wrong.  I am not a techno wizard so i hope this helps.

  • Audio very low when i use blutooth Handset in my L...

    Hi,
I have the Handset BH-106 which was working fine with my old Nokia Phones, after i got the Lumia 920 i Found that the Audio became very low after start the Call, it will start good but dropping down with the time, it was very old so i decided to buy i new one and i have selected the BH-217.
i have tested it in the store the Audio was perfect, after few days the same issue accure and now im sure its the Phone issue not the Handset.
i did soo many soft/Hard Resets, i also got the Portico update, and i got other nokia Update (like Audio and others) but nothing worked.
is it really the Phone Issue because i dont want to buy newer handset like BH-220 with no benifits !
what is the soulution and what is the best Audio Hanset (for phone calls only i dont listen to music), which is have a car base like the BH-217 and can go to stand-by Mode.
    Regards,

It seems like this is a common problem with the BH-217 and it's auto adjust volume. You should be able to adjust volume on the phone.
    Others have the same problem.

  • Battery capacity very low, despite careful use and maintenence

    Hello,
The current battery capacity of my MacBook Pro seems to be diminishing rather swiftly. I bought my Mac around 4 months ago, and have been using it for less than 3 months. I try to run Battery Calibration often (sometimes many times in a row, just because the situation allows for it), and I have never started charging it until it has went into standby due to low power. I tend to use it when running on battery, though I do occasionally keep the power-cord plugged in when fully charged.
The problem is, my overall battery life is down to 93% of the original, only with 63 loadcycles. That's not the worst part - it has recently been going down even quicker then before when 98% or so worried me.
I have kept a log of the life of my battery using CoconutBattery, it is as follows (in order from earliest to most recent):
    98 % (5440 mAh) 2007-09-06
    99 % (5464 mAh) 2007-09-09
    98 % (5410 mAh) 2007-09-10
    98 % (5440 mAh) 2007-09-12
    98 % (5444 mAh) 2007-09-13
    99 % (5450 mAh) 2007-09-13
    99 % (5450 mAh) 2007-09-15
    99 % (5463 mAh) 2007-09-15
    98 % (5420 mAh) 2007-09-17
    98 % (5429 mAh) 2007-09-19
    98 % (5443 mAh) 2007-09-21
    98 % (5392 mAh) 2007-09-21
    97 % (5387 mAh) 2007-09-22
    97 % (5360 mAh) 2007-09-26
    97 % (5352 mAh) 2007-10-01
    97 % (5387 mAh) 2007-10-04

    97 % (5339 mAh) 2007-10-16
    96 % (5292 mAh) 2007-10-17
    98 % (5437 mAh) 2007-10-19
    95 % (5242 mAh) 2007-10-21
    93 % (5143 mAh) 2007-10-23
Why are there so many jumps in percent, both up and down? How can I improve on my battery capacity? Can I anyhow make it increase back to the full 100%?
Is it better to keep it plugged-in or use the battery? Is the OK to charge it often?
Thank you for your time. I hope you can help!
    Rudi

It doesn't say that on the apple site!
You're right, it doesn't. It in fact actually implies the opposite…
    "Standard Maintenance
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month."
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
Thing is, this text is aimed at those that rarely use their batteries as opposed to that those that do given that with regular battery use you're already doing the right thing.
Additionally, by regularly using your battery the function a calibration is actually relegated to a way of accurate reporting. Over time the cells degrade and the battery's circuitry as well as your MBP's SMC gets out of sync with this which results in incorrect battery run time figures. In the worst case this irregularity can result in your MBP shutting off without warning as it thinks it has more power than it really does. Calibration just lines this all back up again.
This does not mean you shouldn't calibrate but to do it only every now and then. I have an iCal to-do item to do it after 6 weeks from the last one although it can actually mean I don't do it for 8-10 weeks.
maybe change the battery - if so, will I still be able to purchase a new battery for my current SR model? Or should I buy one and keep it in stock now?
Assuming Apple changes the MBP battery on it's next revision you'll still be able to purchase new batteries for your MBP. While they don't make then indefinitely they won't leave us high and dry without a source of new batteries even after a line is not longer current.
Buying new batery is not recommended until you actually need it as Li based batteries degrade from the time they're made so the newer the stock the better.

  • Red channel seems very low resolution

Iwth a HVX200 and P2 workflow, I have noticed in the past that in Final Cut the images look good, but if you export them, the red channel can have artifacts, it looks like a 1/8th of the resolution. This could do with the channel smoothing.. I dunno.
However, I had a work around (a bit of a chicken dance: opening the original files in quicktime, unchecking then rechecking the 'hi-quality' mode, then saving them as uncompressed.. THEN outputting them as frames.)
However, with all the newest updates to the P2 importer, I am now noticing that the problem has creeped into Final Cut itself, and there is no way to work around it.
I have older footage that looks great, if I now go and re-shoot, it looks bad, really bad.
    What is going on ?
Has anyone else had this problem.
I work in a large facility, and we do a lot of greenscreen and this is a real problem.
    thanks in advance,
    cris blyth

    like this?
    (200% zoom)
The little red blocks around the arms.It has something to do with over saturation of the red channel causing problems with color sampling and compression. Fortunately, it goes away once it hits a TV monitor. I'm a little bit confused as well, but I do know what your talking about.

  • On G71-340US: very low volume when using DVD player, but OK when using Windows Media Player.

Just purchased new laptop G71-340US.  Volume (at full tilt) is decent when using Windows Media Player, but when using DVD player, volume is so low I can't really hear volume on a movie unless room is completely quiet, and I am right in front of laptop. Any suggestions, or is it really this bad?

I don't have the answer, but I certainly agree. The G71-340us is severly under powered in the audio department. You would think with the extra room in the 17in. chasis they could have put a sound system with a lot more power. Other than that it's a great machine.

  • Very low quality after using OCR

    Hello,
I am using OCR in a couple of documents which have tables I want to export to an excel document. The issue is that the letters after using OCR, are hardly legible. Hence, the text is not well detected and I can´t reply it on the excel document.
    Thank you very much.
    Kind regards,

    Hi Hugo_16,
I would recommend you to use High quality scan settings while scanning the document and then try running OCR again on the same document.

If you have Conexant sound card, then try to disable all enhancements. Open Windows Sound Control Panel -> Recording devices -> Properties -> Advanced.

  • How to get higher resolution previews in HDR Pro

I often make HDR images by exporting a bracket from lightroom into photoshop via right click>merge to HDR in photoshop.  When the dialog comes up it is always a very low resolution preview.  When I go to zoom in (cmd +) the resolution remains the same and I am zooming in on a pixelated image and the zoom is very limited.  I am working from D3s files so there is plenty of resolution but it just doesn't show up in the preview.  Is this simply the way it works or is there a way I can get a higher resolution preview.  I'm not worried about rendering times either as I'm on a 8 core with 16gb or ram.
    Thanks!

    Liter Cola-
not sure if this is entirely what you want, but there are options in adjusting the preview for a 32bit HDR image. with a 32 bit image you can store the entire dynamic range of the HDR image:
    "32‑bit Exposure
Option for adjusting the preview image for viewing 32‑bits-per-channel high dynamic range (HDR) images on your computer monitor. The slider is available only when the document window displays an HDR image."

  • Import Previews Low Resolution?

As an Event Photographer I need to be able to quickly preview images from my Cards, Import only the "GOOD" images and transmit these for immediate distribution.
Problem is the PREVIEW of the images PRIOR to import are very low resolution and don't allow me to make an informed decision as to the quality of the image. Can this be adjusted?
Also, any tips on speeding up importation would be appreciated.
I've disabled FACES and PLACES and use a high speed FW800 card reader.

I can't see how you could make a select in the camera but you can't make it with the camera-generated preview? Especially when the in-camera JPEG is what's displayed on the back of the LCD when you review images (All RAW files contain JPEG previews for this purpose, and the histogram is typically displayed using the info from this embedded JPEG preview).
The fastest thing you can do for selections is to click Aperture's checkbox to use the embedded JPEG if possible. Then turn on quick preview mode and get to work editing. Note, Aperture 3 lets you edit while you're importing. It doesn't matter if the images are still on the card or have been copied to their final location. If the JPEG on the camera is good enough for quick reviewing, it should be good enough on screen... even if it is at a small resolution.
