Very Low volume from headphone output on iMac

Since upgrading my 2011 27" iMac to Yosemite, the sound output from the headphone jack has plummeted, to a point where I can hardly hear it through my external speakers. Before, it was deafening, now it is almost inaudible. Airplay output and the internal speakers seem unaffected. I have restarted, zapped the PRAM, checked Audio MIDI Setup, checked Sound Prefs, everything is turned up to the max, to no effect.
Any idea what might be happening here?

I also experience the same problem with my MacBook Pro 13" last gen. I haven't used my iPod's earphone with it for some time. I have noticed this problem since yesterday (4/6/2010). Beside resetting PRAM, repairing disk and its permission, plug and unplug the head jack, tried with different earphones, check the Audio Midi Setup; I also deleted all audio plist files in /Library and ~/Library folders (incase those preference files are corrupted). Those efforts fail to solve the problem.
Is this a problem caused by 10.6.3? I never have a problem while still using 10.6.2.

    Thanks...

I have the exact same problem. i have  a macbook pro 13in (mid 2009) with extremely low volume coming from headphone jack. i brought the computer into my local apple store today and they diagnosed my problem as being the result of a faulty logic board. my laptop is out of warranty so they have to send it to the apple repair depot for 3-5 days. the charge is a flat $280 (tax not included). the solution seems extreme though and i hope i don't get any "kernel panicking" with a new board. i will update... also there is no accidental damge to my laptop whatsoever. the problem arrose 2-3wks ago

  • Very Low Volume From my Brand New Traveldock!

I just got my traveldock for my Zen Microphoto...and am very disappointed... I can barely hear it!! I do not have the "soft sound" button on, and I've checked the connection--it IS docked properly. The sound is of fine quality, just very very low... I have the Microphoto turned all the way up AND the volume on the Traveldock turned all the way up. Please help.

I have the same problem. It appears the audio jack doesn't make proper alignment. It works fine when plugged in through the line in port using a cord. The remote doesn't control the microphoto either when docked. It appears that the microphoto is supported by the traveldock? Any ideas? Does Creative even read these posts? ?

  • Very low volume from Music Video

I purchased a music video for the first time and the volume is way, way too low. I have my powerbook cranked all the way up and it's still way too soft. All my other music plays just fine. What can be done about this? It was Alice In Chains music video "Would?"

    Hi,
One thing can help is the following.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.

    - Select Bass Booster In Equalizer
    - Select Loudness (On) in Settings
    - Turn Stereo Widening OFF in Settings
Now turn up the volume and enjoy
    For Loud Music:
    - Select Default In Equalizer

Now turn up the volume and enjoy...

  • Audigy 2 ZS with 5.1, very low volume from front center spea

I have an Audigy 2 ZS and Altec Lansing 25CN speakers (5.). The sound comes out fine from all but the front center speaker, from which I can barely hear anything. However, if I run the Creative Diagnostic and test the speakers, the sound comes out just fine. Tests in the THX Console work fine too. Anyone have an idea what's going on?

  • Very Low Volume Output - Audigy 2

    Hi,
All of a sudden my Audigy 2 ZS card has very low volume. Tried different speakers, tried uninstall/reinstall, tried clean boot of XP, no luck. Also, there is faint crackling when I turn volume up but I believe it's only because speakers are fully cranked and there is hardly any sound coming out.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I didn't have any place to test the card but I did replace it with another one. Unfortunately, the other card gives the same result - very low volume. I suppose this means there is a problem with the motherboard. Do you agree? Is there any other test I could do that might pinpoint the problem area?
Yes, I received a "reply" from Creative. It was a form email that said they received my message and would respond (usually) within 24 hours. That is the only message I received from them.

  • Sound is very low volume

I've done a search but can't seem to find any info re the sound volume on my bw G3. The sound out of both the front, built in speaker, and through the headphones, is very low volume output, almost but not quite muted. I've searched and adjusted the controls but to no avail. Could this be a hardware problem or software? There 'is' some movement when I adjust the volume slider but it takes the level from what would normally be 2 of 10 down to nothing. That is, there is no way for me to get the sound to levels that within normal limits. It's like the output is being blocked somehow but is still leaking through enough for me to make out the particular sound (song in this case) that I'm listening to.
Any help would be appreciated. It might not be worth puttiing any money into and I'd like to at least try.
    Michael

    Michael,
Sounds like you are ahead of the game on testing with headphones. External speakers would not make much of a difference without an amplifier.
"(is there another place to check sound output?)" If you had an AV output you could test sound out of that card. Finding a card might be cheaper than any repair bill and give you a definative answer on if their is a system software level problem.

  • Want to connect an older Amplifier to AEX. Input data is 200mV for the amp. When I connect sound level is very low. What is output on AEX?

Want to connect an older amplifier to AEX. Input (AUX)data is 200mV. The soundlevel is very low. What is output from AEX? Phono input is 2,5mV and gives too high soundlevel as well as a strange sound(Isuppose some preamp is there)
Anyone to give some good ideas?

The analog output of the AirPort Express is approximately the same as a CD player. It is definitely compatible with a millivolt input. Don't use a phono input.
Make sure the master volume in iTunes is at its maximum setting. Remote speakers can have their own volume setting in iTunes, so check that also:

  • Very low volume in the speaker

    Dears
i've notice of the very low volume level from the built in speaker of the earliest Mac Pro ( i've one ) compared to the previous one (2008...i've one). Is this normal ?
    Thanks in advance.

I can tell you right now, that's a complete waste of time! They're just gonna tell you it's "in spec."
It's a crumby speaker... deal with it. If you really care that much about the volume of the audio, you should just get a good pair of external speakers!

  • My call having very low volume to the caller

my call having very low volume to the lisner or caller . how to increase form my iphone.

    Hey there pawan922,
It sounds like you are being told that your voice is not clear but they sound fine to you. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve the issue here, named:
    iPhone: Microphone issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183
Follow these steps, testing after each.
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (refer to the pictures below to find your device's microphones). Check for these:
    Dirt or debris
    A screen protector or case
When you're holding your phone next to your ear, make sure you don't block the microphone with your fingers or shoulder and make sure to speak into the microphone
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.
For further assistance, contact Apple Support.
If the issue persists and you need to make a call, try using headphones with an integrated microphone.

  • HP Pavilion g6-1d98dx has very low volume.

    Hi there,
    I have an
HP Pavilion g6-1d98dx with W7 Ultimate that suddenly has very low volume. I have tried rolling back the drivers, uninstalling them and the device itself.
I also tried that loudness equalization option, but it only makes it worse. It used to sound very good, but now it's horrible. Now I have to wear a headset just to listen to music! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi @Kindakool
I understand that you are having trouble with the sound from your built in speakers. I am happy to help you with this.
You can start with the following page, even though you are getting some sound.
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
Or you can check the connections on your internal speakers for that you will need:
HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
    From Microsoft's support website:
Automatically diagnose and fix Windows audio playback problems
If those do not work it is possible that there is a physical problem with the speakers themselves. At that point I would call in to our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

Hi, sorry to hear that you are having issues with your new notebook audio.  I will be happy to help with the issue but first I will need to know the exact model number of the computer as well as the operating system you are using. To find the model number, please look on the bottom of the computer. You will see a white sticker. Here is where you will find the model number. If by chance you do not see the model number, please remove the battery and you will find it.  I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Microphone Very Low Volume

    Hi
I have been using my new MXL USB 007 stereo microphone on Windows 7 Professional with clear quality audio for a while now.
On Monday 26 November 2012, I reformatted my PC laptop hard disk and installed Windows 8 Pro.
Now, the quality of the recorded audio is heavily subdued without the clear clarity I used to get. In other words, I am getting very low volume, even though the recording level is on 85 (I tried with 90 as well. 100 has way too much distortion).
As a test, I connected the same microphone to another one of my machines that still has Windows 7 Professional, and the audio result was excellent. So, it’s not the actual microphone.
I have checked the Windows 8 sound settings. It says the device is working properly. There is only the Levels to adjust and under the Advanced tab, I have 2 channel, 16 bit, 48 kHz, DVD quality - same as before on Windows 7.
Is there some setting or something else I should do on Windows 8 to get decent sound again?
    Any ideas? Please help ....
    Thank you.

I have reinstalled Windows 8 Pro twice, both times formatting the disk.
The first time, I connected the microphone immediately after the OS install.
The second time, I connected the microphone only after all Windows Updates and device drivers were applied.
In both cases, the problem of very low input volume remains.
I searched online, and found somebody else has the same problem with a different vendors microphone.
    I quote from:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/1251-73-microphone-input
"I use Cakewalk for sound processing and have discovered that my Samson CO1U
microphone has almost no input strength under Windows 8. I have tweaked about everything I can imagine. Any ideas? "
On my machine, I looked at Device Manager and found:
From the above screenshot, it seems like the USBAUDIO.sys file is one of several being used.
Unless I am mistaken, all of the sound device driver files for the USB Audio CODEC are Microsoft files.
If so, can we please get a Windows Update on this issue?
    Awaiting in anticipation ....
