Very New to SAP.. Need directions.

Hi Everyone,
Need some pointers how to get started with SAP. I am an Independent PeopleSoft Consultant. I like to learn SAP and slowly convert my Knowledge. Like to know what is the best way to start SAP. What is its backbone Technology? Which SAP Course should be good for me? I am PeopleSoft CRM and Integration person, so similar area of interest. Or whatever is HOT in SAP..
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
Regards,
Pablo..

Srinivas,
You have raised a good question and I will list based on my own experience how to get involved with CRM in the proper manner.
1.  Take the standard SAP classes on CRM.  If you don't have much SAP experience you will need to take the basic
SAP courses.
2.  If you are at a place that owns SAP software, purchase the OKP self study material from SAP.  This material will only make sense with a system and after you have done the training.
3.  Find a person nearby who has CRM experience that can mentor you.  If you can't, find a consultant and pay for a day or two hands on mentoring.
4.  Get involved in CRM project at the junior level.  If you have done SD configuration or development work in R/3 you can probably have no issue learning CRM.
Areas of CRM to study from technical standpoint is
IPC and Middleware.  There are not enough people in the US and world who have a good knowledge of these products.
From the functional standpoint, I would concentrate on learning the entire CRM lifeccyle.  Most customers will implement CRM a piece or two at a time and it helps to know more than one module on the functional side.  A solid foundation in master data, organizational management and business transactions will help you master any module.
Self-study on the materials will only take you so far.  You will learn more by actually working with a system and being involved with project work.  My background on CRM goes back to 2.0C and I am currently working with 4.0 right now.  I honestly found that most of the course/self study material will cover about 60% of the knowledge you need.  The rest of the knowledge will come with working with the project.
I will also state personally that is very unethical to use any copyrighted material(which includes SAP classes), that has not been purchased.  I am particularly disturbed by posts for course material, that is not in the the public domain. SDN is not as bad, but sapfans appears to the SAP training material black market.
Good luck,
Stephen

  • New to SAP, need some direction

Hi everyone, pretty much as the title states, I'm brand new to SAP and I need some direction as to what's the best way to start learning it.
To make my long story short, the company I work for was going to transition from a home-grown Sybase application to SAP Business One. 9 months and $150k later, they decide SAP sucks. Which upsets me because there's about 20 pages of SAP related stuff on all the job hunting sites and I'm always looking to "broaden my horizons" or something like that.
So now that no one using SAP... I want to start taking it apart and learning how it works. I just have no idea where to begin. I looked at the FAQs and all, but I don't think I'm even at that point yet.
So how can someone completely new to SAP get started?
    Thanks in advance.
    ~Steve

  • Very New to Jave, need to do totals/subtotals

Hi, (I hope this is the right place)
I'm VERY new to Java (I mainly do wourk with php interfaces for MyAQL databases).
Up until now, there hasn't been anything I couldn't do with PHP that I needed to...
My boss recently requested subtotals/totals at various points on an input sheet. The sheet inputs numbers of people, so I'm not worried about rounding (The php already takes care of people trying to input parts of people....) or tax.
It's a rather large form (~144 lines) and the math is already in place to do the subtotaling (among other things) before entering the information into the database.
How would I go about writing script that would display sub totals, and recalculate them every time one of the boxes value's is modified?
Is this something javascript is designed to do? Is there a better language out there for this task?
I've found sites out there that have canned subtotal/total scripts, but I don't want something pre-made unless it comes with a detailed explaination of what everything does; if I'm going to maintain it, I have to understand it.
    Thanks

Is this a web form? e.g. a html form with input fields?
You can add onchange or onblur events to your input fields to detect changes. Then you can use javascript to retrieve the values from the form and do the calculation.

  • New to sap - need help in configure backup strategy for SAP XI server.

    hi gurus
being a netweaver guy, recently i have been given  the responsibility of few basis activities.like database backup.
can any one tell me clear procedure to take both daily online and weekend full offline backup of oracle in to disk first and then to tape.   i have seen in the internet  material few discussing about brbackup and few about sap DB13. i am totally confused which one to use, and which is good. please help
    akhil

    Hi,
welcome on board as SAP Netweaver guy,
don't be confused both DB13 and BRtools are the same both of them will call brbackup.
to configure the brtools you have to change in your brtools profiles located at  %ORACLE_HOME%/dbs
please before changing any thing take backup from that folder.
    - to take the backup to disk then to tape you will need extra backup software, because using the SAP slandered tools you have to select either Disk or Tape.
    Thanks

  • New to SAP; need to link excel

I have just downloaded a trial of crystal reports to test and see if I can create reports using excel spreadsheets that I have stored on my computer.  Tried doing an connection on my own and receiving errors.
A step by step process will be extremely helpful.
    Thanks,
    Nancy Cotton

    Hi Nancy,
this SAP note might help you: 1669329 - How to create a report off MS Excel 2007 or 2010 spreadsheet saved in .xlsx format in Crystal Reports.
This is the step by step resolution.
To connect to MS Excel spreadsheet stored stored in the XML format (.xlxs) in Crystal Reports, use an ODBC connection.
    Go to the ODBC Administrator.
To do so in MS Windows, select  Start -> Control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)
Select the System DSN tab, and click on ADD
Select Microsoft Excel Drive (*.xls,*.xlsx,*.xlsm,*.xlsb), and click on Finish
Add a DSN name and click on Select Workbook
    Select the MS Excel worksheet
    Open Crystal Reports.
Select in the menu "File" - New -> Blank Report
In the Database Expert, expand Create New Connection, and double click on ODBC (RDO)
Select the ODBC DSN created in the previous steps.
If the MS Excel sheets are not visible in the Database Expert then:
Right click on the Connection, and in the contextual menu, select Options
In the Options window, check the option System Tables, and click OK
Back to the Database Expert window, right click on the connection, and select Refresh
The MS Excel sheets will now display. Select the desired MS Excel sheet.

  • This is my first day so I'm green (very new) to SAP. So far I love what I'm learning but...

Where can I go to have a start point. Does SAP have a start application so I can learn how to configure.
I don't want to learn in the middle. Of course unless that is how you learn

    Hello Tiffany,
openSAP is also good tool and I am also attending some courses there. But I think it is not so important for a real newcomer. Anyway, if you found them interesting, why not go for more of them.
But I am writing this post, because I have another advice for you. I still do not know which part of SAP you want to learn or which position you would like to work at? But some days ago I have tried to install SAP on my personal computer. It was SAP ABAP server, SAP GUI and also ABAP in Eclipse tool. It is very good practise for administrator and also very good start point for developer. Have a look on this thread, which was my "manual" How to install SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.03 SP03 Trial – Ready for ABAP in Ecplipse (AiE). Also you can check my blog about the experience during installation and AiE try Meeting ABAP in Eclipse for first time.
    Best regards and good luck

  • New to Mac, Need direction on how to Learn OSX

I am a lifelong pc user, purchased a new iMac 24 a few weeks ago, opened it up Sunday for the first time, and it looked great. Problem is, as easy as the commercials and everyone says Mac's are, coming from a PC has proven to humble me. I am clueless. (Please be nice). I purchased this computer for my photography hobby, and at the suggestion of my sister, this was the one for me to get. The problem is, I have having all sorts of problems. I can turn it on, I can brows the internet, but outside of that, I simply do not know how to use this computer. More specifically, things that I took for granted with a PC, such as right clicking and minimized applications, are different here.
SO... here is the question. Where can I go to have a resource to learn more about this OS and how it works? Please understand I have spent all day Monday scouring the Apple site for user groups to help me, (when I should have been working) but they all seem to be based on people have some understanding of a Mac. So far I am dissapointed with the purchase, but I do not want to be, so I am hoping someone has a good resource to use so I know why when I click ichat, nothing happens, and what the difference between a .mac address is and mobile me, and why why I try to use ichat using my .mac address it says my password is invalid, but I can log into this usergroup, or iTunes and have no problem. Thank you for your help.

take a look at the [this post|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7601013#7601013]. It lists a number of sources for mac newcomers. if you have specific questions about various things you can post them on this forums.
Mobile me is simply a rebranded version of .mac which is now gone.

  • New to Lifecycle - need direction on if... then... else

First off; i hope this is the correct place to ask this question, so if not, please let me know where to post.
I am using LC designer 8, and having an issue with the if... then... else. statement
i am writting a script using FormCal --> calculate the code below is what i need to do.  The issue that i am running into is that the code only performs one (1) of the actions under the then/else statement, is there a seceret to having more than one statement under the then / else -
This code is behind a barCode field if that makes a difference, seems if i comment out the presence statements the values are set correctly, but not the presence.
    if
      (Text2.rawValue == 0)
    then
       $.presence = "invisible"   $.rawValue
    = Text2.rawValue
    else   $.presence = "visible"   $.rawValue
    = Text2.rawValue
    endif
    thanks for your help.

I am using the "preview" tab and the viewer {version 8] to text. from what i see the setting of the values work with no issue, but the presence does not. - i can see this when i comment out the , BC.relevant = "+print" line of code.
When i first bring it up, the value is SS_text null - thus the barcode should not be visable on the screen, when i populate the SS_text, the barcode should be shown; but it does not appear for me, is it working for you that way ?    should i be doing somthing like the code below instead of the way i was,  i still cant get the barcode to show with it either.
    if(SS_Text
    <> null)
      then
        BC.presence = "visible"    BC
    = SS_Text
    else   //is null
       BC.presence  = "hidden"
       0
    endif

    Hi All,
I am new to SAP biller direct. We are using ECC 5.0 system as the back end system. We created an implementation for  the BADI 'APAR_EBPP_GET_DATA'.I wanted to debug this BADI.So i set a breakpoint at a particular line. When I opened biller direct web application , no dubugging session opens at any point.Any idea why this is happening.

If this is a production system, then debugging might have been disabled; so the backend is saying "no way". Contact your basis folks and ask them.
Other than that, I am afraid you are not even left with the last resort option of debugging it anymore...
How about writting really, really good code which does not require debugging?
    Cheers,

Using Audition 2.0 on Windows XP platform.  Now have Windows 8.1 on new computer and need to upgrade and load latest version of Audition.  Any suggestions?  Many thanks, R.

VC6. is rather old, but you can try to convert the VC6 project using the upgrade wizard of VC2012. Depending on the content of the project your code will work more or less without problems, at least it will compile without errors.
You could also go the 2nd way and create in VC2012 a project type using the wizard that is very similar to your current VC6 projcet (MDI, SDI, Dialog Based, ...). Than you replace the files generated by the wizard with the content of your project. Sometimes
    this way is more successful.
But at all the automated converting success depends on the code of your VC6 project. I had both, conversions without big problems and also conversions that need a lot changes to run on a current VC version.
    Best regards
