Very Odd Group Messaging Fail
This seems to have popped up overnight because a month or so ago, this was not happening.
I am on a t-mobile iphone 5s with the latest os update and carrier update.
I have tried all scenarios with imessage on and off.
I create a group text with users A, B, C & D.
A,B & C are iphone users, A & B use imessage and C does not. D is an android user. When each replies back, the only reply is see is from D. If each user creates a group message, I only receive it from D. If I message each user individually, everything works correctly (imesage and SMS).
Just on a whim I sent a pic message to users E & F. both are iphone and imessage users. they both got the message and were both able to reply.
(now I'm completely baffled).
I'm thinking it might possibly be related to MMS, but not sure. I believe all group messages are treated as MMS and not imessage, correct?
I completely restored my phone last night (not from backup, but a total reinstall) and still have the same issue.
Please help! I'm missing out on a lot of important messages. Thanks!!!

Group Messaging failing since iOS 8.0.2
I have a couple of apps installed via apple store for sending group sms. e.g Group, Easy Group etc. These app are free ordinarily but to take advantage of some other features, I upgraded to the premium version.
However, since I upgraded to iOS 8.0.2, these apps and a couple of others have been failing to send out group messages. It's a shame that Apple has not provided these feature in the default Message app. I send out sms daily to groups (some having over 300 contacts). Can anyone help?Hello geexman,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
The following article should provide you information on resolving issues with third party apps you have installed on your devices:

Why can't I send picture messages and group messages with MMS?
Picture messages fail to certain people with invalid destination address. Then the group messages won't send unless I send them as individual texts. Very frustrating.
I am having this same issue! I got my S3 in December & it has worked fine until about a month and half ago. . .around the time of latest software update! I can not send MMMS messages (group texts, pics, videos). It doesn't matter if I am on wi-fi, 3g, 4g LTE. It does not send!!! And I am getting ******. Help Verizon!!

Razr M Picture messages failing
This is a problem i've been having since i got this phone, but as i found a workaround i lived with it for a while, bet enough is enough.
Whenever i send a picture message to someone after a few seconds the message pops up as "failed". to get the picture to send, i have to delete any existing conversation with the recipient(s) and then resend a brand new message with the picture and it works no problem, this however does become an issue on ongoing group messages or if there is info in the conversation that is important that i need to keep.
any ideas as to what can be causing these messages to fail? I have reset my phone, but the problem was still there. any ideas or help would be appreciated!punqwraq wrote:
wouldn't the messages just stay in the network until the receiver was able to get the messages? I've sent many messages to people who had their phones powered off and never had them returned, they just get the message when the turn them back on.
The system tries to resend the message for a few days after you original sent the message if the phones are turned off. I was referring to a bad signal area where there is a signal, but it isn't very strong. -
Iphone5 MMS: older phones not receiving group messages
This discussion was started here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5178260
Iphone5, iOS6.1.4, Verizon. Brand-new phone I bought a couple weeks ago. So its brand-new, mint condition, untouched.
My phone number was ported from AT&T to Verizon. No problems as far as I can tell.
I've been sending group messages, not realizing more than half of my friends/family were not receiving them.
1.My aunt lives on the other side of the country and has some kind of smartphone(not iphone) and she's been receiving them just fine.
2.My mother has a normal cellphone that is several years old AT&T, but she has only being receiving the subject line of the message. When she tries to "retrieve" the message, it always says "failed to retrieve". She has no problem getting text messages from everyone except me.
3.My brother has a different model of a normal phone and he is on the same AT&T plan with my mother and he is able to receive my group messages.
4.Some other friends with older phones and AT&T are not receiving the messages at all.
So it's been very hit 'n miss on who can receive these group messages.
I turned off iMessages first, then I finally turned off MMS Messages, and my mother was finally able to receive a group message from me.
She has always been able to receive an individual message from me with MMS and iMessages turned on. This is strictly a group message problem of some kind.
I was only sending her messages with text content, but the group messages always say MMS at the top regardless of what you send. I'm assuming turning off MMS forces group messages to use SMS.
Why is iphone not able to degrade gracefully with a group message? Why can't it detect older phones in a group message and say "hmm...maybe I should use SMS, especially since the iphone is sending a message with text-only content anyway."
It's really irritating that I have to either, remember to send INDIVIDUAL messages to every single person, OR keep MMS turned off just so older phones can receive a group message.
Has anyone else had these kinds of problems, and if so, what did you do?
I feel like the problem is on my end(Verizon) rather than my friends' end since so many of them are not receiving MY messages. They are receiving everyone else's messages.
Facts:
1. INDIVIDUAL messages work. (MMS is turned on.)
2. SMS-ONLY GROUP messages work. (MMS is turned off so SMS is forced.)
3. MMS group messages, even with text-only content, are not being received by some people, others are receiving them just fine.iMessages is not the problem. None of my friends have an iphone so I haven't been using iMessages at all.
The problem is SMS vs MMS on group messages. For some reason, the default for group messages is MMS, even though the contents I send are only text. My mother and some of my other friends cannot receive MMS messages, but they can receive SMS messages. (I don't know if its because their phones are too old or because of their specific txtmsg plan with their provider.)
So she automatically doesn't receive messages when I send them as a group instead of individually because they always send as MMS simply because they are GROUP and not because of the contents of the message.
Why do group messages always send as MMS instead of SMS?
I turned MMS OFF, in order to force group messages to always use SMS, but then the MMS setting turns itself back ON the instant I send an individual MMS to a friend who can receive those types of messages. Once MMS setting is back on, I don't realize it and send out a GROUP message, which doesn't reach everyone because once again MMS is being used instead of SMS.
If group messages would send as SMS when I am only sending text, then there would be NO problem. It shouldn't use MMS unless I'm sending a picture or something. -
I can't send picture messages or group messages to people without an iPhone.
I am unable to send pictures or group messages to my contacts that aren't iPhone users. Seems like this started happening since the last update. Very frustrated.
Hi there krd2687!
Sharing your precious memories is absolutely important and I'm so sorry for the concerns you're having. I appreciate all of the steps you've already completed so far. I took a deep dive in to the Razr Maxx HD and didn't find any reported concerns such as this.
To clarify, are you able to send picture messages to individuals or does it only fail when you try to send the same picture to multiple people at the same time? Are you able to send text messages?
Do you happen to have a picture/video(multimedia) message block on your line? See here: http://vz.to/1cxwDLV on how to edit or change service blocks.
Keep me posted!
Thanks!

I have an iPhone 4S and use the group texting feature ALL THE TIME. I recently updated my iPad to the latest software and made the colossal mistake of continuing my group messaging from my iPad while connected to wifi. Doing this has successfully screwed but every group text thread I am in, to the point where its very hard for those involved in the thread to keep up. When I initially messaged those I was already engaged in text threads with it created a new thread in their phones replacing my name in their phones with my email. At first this was not a big deal but ever since then the people I am messaging have become increasingly frustrated with how my messages come through. If I am messaged in a group text and respond to it, sometimes when I respond it will create an entirely different thread in my recipients phones. So at that point they have to switch threads in order to read what I wrote. The new thread that my phone creates will send the message under my email not my name (related to the contact they have me saved as in their phones). The worst part about it is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why or when my phone will send the message as normal or under my email like it did with my iPad. I haven’t messaged from my iPad since these problems immediately began a month ago but the issues still continue. I have tried everything to get this to stop, I’ve turned off my wifi, I’ve had my friends delete the threads that my messages create in their phones. I’ve had them delete my email in their contact lists and nothing has worked. Can you help me? Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Note: My phone message no different whatsoever. All the threads have remained the same. The issue is what it is doing to the people that I am messaging.
Best Regards
Rick Mulhern
Message was edited by: Rickapplehelp19I have this identical problem. For a while my group texts didnt show up on my ipad. Then one day they did, maybe everyone in the group started using the same os version or something. Ever since my first reply to the group there have been complaints of multiple threads. I can not find a pattern for when my group text's decide they want to create a new thread. (it doesnt happen every time) Everyone in the group has deleted the thread, we've all toggled imessage on/off etc. There still hasn't been a solution.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all-
I am currently trying to configure group policy (specifically folder redirects) from a new Windows Server 2008 in my home... the server acts as both an AD DS and file server for 4 client computers, all running Windows Vista Ultimate.
Here are the steps I am currently taking:
I create a new Group Policy called All Users and Computers and apply it to the All Users and Computers OU, which contains exactly what it says (all users and computers in the domain).
I verify that a new folder was created in \\<FQDN>\sysvol\<FQDN>\Policies. The new folder created is named {6479C8E0-3134-4B4F-B047-7ADD51684684}
I change the GPO Enforced setting to Enforced.
I attempt to use the gpupdate command to see if the group policy can be updated successfully. In a command prompt, I type gpupdate <enter>. I receive the message 'Updating Policy...' then after about 15 seconds the message 'User Policy update has completed successfully.'
I keep the cmd window open. After about 10 seconds another message apperas which says "Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encountered: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\<FQDN>\sysvol\<FQDN>\Policies\{6AC1786C-016F-11D2-945F-00C04Fb984F9}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or invoke gpmc.msc to access information about Group Policy results."
I confirm that the error code is #3 using the Event Log, "The system cannot find the file specificed"
Of course the system cannot find the file specified because the folder does not exist in the sysvol folder. I am wondering why Windows is trying to read from this location when it does not exist, and is not the new group policy I created! I have no other group policies linked or enforced to any other OU/Domain/etc. Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.Hello all and thanks for the help. First a few things:
I understand that the DC should not be running RRAS, but this a simple server being used in aa home environment by 4 users and getting another server just for RRAS would be overkill.
Secondly, I currently have it so that while the router is handling DHCP, I have reserved a fixed IP for the server, so it always has 192.168.1.100. If I were to use the server as the DHCP, what would my hardware configuration have to look like? I currently have the router plugged into the ISP modem, and then server plugged into the router. All other clients connect to the router wirelessly.
Here's the dcdiag output. I tried dcdiag /fix but to no avail.

Odd error message when attempting installation of iTunes 8
When I try to install the iTunes 8 (the most recent version), I get an odd error message and am unable to successfully complete the installation. This is the message:
Could not access network location
%USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
This message is then followed by Retry or Cancel; Retry has not worked at all with the same error message popping up. There is no error number that I can see. After I finally hit cancel out of frustration, this message shows up:
The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime.
I think that the first message occurs during the program's attempt to do QuickTime before the iTunes. I tried downloading and upgrading QuickTime separately, but that was also unsuccessful. I do now have an earlier version of QuickTime on my computer, but that is only because I recently added some software (Rosetta Stone to be exact) that requires the 5.0 version and downloads it automatically. I also have tried the troubleshooting tips on the Apple site.
My computer is a Dell, with Windows XP Home Edition. I do have the second Service Pack from Microsoft, and should have all of the latest updates. Please help! I'm getting really frustrated with my computer and have no idea on what to do next. When you get a message about not being able to access a network location you usually need the Microsoft installer cleanup utility.
Here is a method:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes. -
Processing of Group Policy failed - User Policy - Windows 7
OP:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/191f1ee1-a551-446b-9808-ff66a952bb25
When running a gpupdate I get the following message:
Updating Policy...
User policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encount
ered:
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not authenticate to the Act
ive Directory service on a domain controller. (LDAP Bind function call failed).
Look in the details tab for error code and description.
Computer Policy update has completed successfully.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or run GPRESULT /H GPReport.html f
rom the command line to access information about Group Policy results.
This only happens on one computer under a certain account; other accounts work fine and the problem account works fine on other computers. Therefore the problem is located on the Windows 7 computer.
I have tracked it down to an LDAP error code 49.
I tried the MS sollution (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc727283(v=ws.10).aspx) but the credentials are sound.
I can also connect to the DC with LDP.exe fine.
Here are the diagnostic read outs (GPResult was too long to post):

It sound like port blocking issue, Seems your client system connecting 216.71.240.x DNS Servers as a logon server and which seems on different subnet
as per subnet mask, So there must be a router or firewall in between and so it might be Active directory ports are being blocked.
So first for testing purpose just remove other
216.71.240.x DNS
servers from TCP/IP configuration and clear dns cache
ipconfig/flushdns
and restart the system. check if it works.
or run this command on DC
dcdiag /test:dns
and share the error report.
Cheers!

The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller
We are setting up a new AD environment with one AD/DC running DNS services, and a secondary DNS server configured with secondary zone. The problem is that none of the machines in the the domain are getting GPO.
When I run a gpupdate /force from a machine, I get the following output:
"Updating Policy...
User Policy update has completed successfully.
Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were enc
ountered:
The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to
a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would
be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group
Policy has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for sever
al hours, then contact your administrator.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or run GPRESULT /H GPReport.html f
rom the command line to access information about Group Policy results."
While the system event log outputs the following:
"The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy
has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator."
All the machines that were joined to the domain are able to resolve in forward and reverse lookups, ping the DC and ping each other so I dont understand how the error can be resolved.
Here are few things I have tried:
1. I came across this KB which checked ok for me: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241515
2. Made a copy of the default GPO, applied to a OU with one machine, and made sure to remove any GPO links from above
3. Enabled the following two local Group policies on a test member:
GP slow link detection
Startup policy processing wait time
4. Modified firewall to allow everything on both member and DC
5. Verified DSN logs, SRV records, access to sysvol ( added authenticated users to sysvol)
I have yet to figure out the reason for this issue. Has anyone seen anything like this before?1. I checked the NIC, it only has one IP. and I followed your article. I set the primary DNS to its own IP and the secondary DNS to the loopback ip
2. This is a new DC and DNS server. I dont have old records yet. I also check the DNS event logs. No errors
3. I made sure the member server is pointing only to the only DC/DNS server
4. Here is the output from the dcdiag.... everything passed except, the Netlogons part. I'm not sure what means or how to fix it yet:

HT5760 New group being created everytime someone responds to our existing group message.
I have a group message with 8 people in it. We all have iPhones and the new iOS8 software. Once we got the new software someone renamed the group. Ever since the update, randomly it will happen that when someone responds in the group... instead of the response showing up in the group we already have... it creates a new group with all the same people. This does not happen every time it is random. This is very frustrating, someone please help!
