Very odd - iMovie 6 is not changing pictures

I have been using iMovie 6 successfully for many years, and for many years on this machine. And now a bug has occurs that is very strange. And it has happened to me and a three of my students.
Simply, we open iMovie 6 on our Macbooks and Mac Book Pros, drop a few pictures in the top row as normal. Then we hit play while still in edit mode (that is, we have not exported the movie and are still editing in iMovie). We watch the playhead move from one picture to the next, yet the picture in the playback screen within iMovie does not change. I can get it to change by stopping the movie and starting it again. And it seems like I can get it to change by applying the Ken Burns effect to the pics. But otherwise, the playhead moves past the point where one picture ends and the next one is supposed to display, but the first one still shows. The second pic will then sometimes appear when I am on to the third pic!
Any ideas? A virus? Are there preferences I can trash?
And the fact that this is happening to 4 of us on 4 separate machines is most odd.

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Screen must be set to Million-colors
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
iMovie updated ?
QuickTime updated ?
Mac OS version ?
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

Why my iMac does not change picture when waking from sleep ?

My iMac has Yosemite installed, I have tried to kill the system preferences in the library but it did not solve the problem.
I restarted, PRAM, repaired system permissions, log on off, etc. and nothing, nada !
It used to work without problems, changing the picture on my desktop every time the computer was waken up.
What it could be wrong ?
I have noticed that the CPU is now above 55% most of the time and iStat says that SGProtocol Service is constantly in 99%. I don´t have a clue what that means.
Any help would be appreciated.

OK. I found the solution.
The computer changes the picture after sleep is activated from the power button but no from a hot corner, like it used to do. Obviously is a bug.
I ruled out the iStat, SG Protocol and high CPU, which are not related with the problem.
It is not a big deal, now I set it to change the image every hour, and it works !

Whenever I download anything , my download box in tools is behaving very odd. It does not show my downloads as they are being downloaded (1) and (2), it is automatically clearing them be fore I can decide where and how to open them. Any help?

If I download files, pictures, programs, etc. the download box pops up, but rather than remaining in a list(?) so I can download later , it just pops up and then disappears. This does not allow me to scan for virus', nor does it allow me to decide , or find, the download easily. It also clears the list, even if I don't want to clear the list ! What up?

What email program are you using? And what do you mean by "Safari mail"?

My macbook has been behaveing very oddly at boot up!

My mac book pro has been behaviouring very oddly, sometimes I can not boot my mac up it just stays at the grey screen with the apple icon and circural loader, sometimes even going to the circle with the cross through. :-s. However after a while or even sometimes on first hit it can boot it and work fine? Sometimes when I am working it will just go to the rainbow loader and thats it game over. What is going on, can you help?

Hi there,
By not using Mac OS X as the main OS, you are bound to run into trouble. If you want to run Archlinux, I reccomend purchasing a different brand of computer.

IMovie '11 does not show Smart album pictures

iMovie isn't showing the pictures in my smart albums. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem? Created and verified content in iPhoto. The smart album titles show up in iMovie but when I try to drill down into the pictures nothing happens; no photos. Shut everything down in case it had to do with file handles not being closed properly, restarted and still the same non-result.
Any Suggestions?

Unfortunately, from reading the iMovie Discussion Board every day religiously this seems to happen. Somehow something clears up after having a big problem for a while. One thing to try is have iPhoto 'rebuild' its Library file by hold down Command key + Option key then launch iPhoto. This will bring up a dialog box with a number of options/check boxes. I don't know enough about each one to say which ones to check or uncheck. Possibly check all of them and let iPhoto run it's course until it finishes. You will have to wait a while if you have very large iPhoto library, but it might clear up this problem of importing photos from iPhoto especially after a OS X 10.7 Lion update.

I had a similar problem, and i found that the photo was of very low resoluton. As a test I resized the image to a lrager resolution using photoshop CS4 and re saved it as JPG. I imported the new saved image and it seem to have fixed the problem.

Icloud storage has nothing at all to do with the storage on your iphone.
Icoud storage is on a server somwewhere, not on your iphone.

Has your Apple ID changed, that's the one that matters.
You need to sign in under the account that purchased these apps (did you buy this Mac new)

Graphic card problem maybe? Since when I have changed the hard drive to my macbook pro and I installed all the new softwares, my mac is very slow and the screen gives crazy pictures,could maybe be the graphic card, does anybody have experienced this?

after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

Use a lexical parameter (see online help):

Have you tried resetting Preferences?
A logical next step would be to reset your Preferences.
To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.

Please whats the way forward with the Q10 bbm dp not changing that several users are experiencing? Technical kindly give us an update as several complaints have already been lodged on this forum.

I have had my Q10 for about 3 months and its been a rocky experience. After about 20-30 call log entries, it begins to mix my contacts. Now I have not been able to change my BBM display picture for over a week. And yet I find there are several threads on the Forum about users having this problem but no solution. Is BB Technical listening?
