Very pleased with New Macbook

Hi Everyone, I just recently (August 4th) bought my very first Mac. I was researching and brousing laptops for about 2 months and being an avid PC user I wanted to try something different and refreshing.
I was looking for a laptop for college. Mainly because my first year at UC Santa Cruz I dished out most of my summer job savings on a Gaming\Media PC and was left labtopless for an academic year. Now a new summer job is in session and I saved up enough cash to purchase a laptop for my second upcoming year at my Univeristy.
The new Macbook definitely caught my eye. It was perfectly priced and since I attend a University that free iPod Nano and educational discount was a sweet deal. I'm glad I held off one year to get a labtop, it totally paid off. Though it was kinda a pain to not have a laptop durring college, I managed very well with my Gaming PC, doing essays and late night coding and programming assignments. Hehe..
The Mac's OS is pretty sweet with all the visual eye candy and its super user friendly setup - its hard not to fall in love with it. Even though I still use my PC for HD Media and Gaming, (I love my PC to death since I built it from scatch) I find my self using my new Macbook for email, work, school, iChat, brousing the net, etc.
My new Macbook is simply amazing. I've had it for about one week and I've had absolutely no problems with it what so ever. It runs cool acording to this forum's standards, currently 41 C at room temperature and 35 C in my air conditioned room. Initially the mouse button on the trackpad would get stuck for a fraction of a second when you pressed it dead in the center but that little annoyance fixed itself as soon as I started using my Macbook more and more often and now it works perfectly. The battery works fine. All the app's run great. No crashes, no random reboots, nothing... yet. Though I will be dual booting Windows XP Pro soon.. See how that goes.
It really hurts to see so many people getting frustrated with their Macbooks.. I really wish that their situations would turn out to be more like mine. My compassion and sympathy go out to you all and I hope that soon, real soon, Apple fixes and irons out all the problems and that you become happy and satisfied with your Macbooks.
As a first-time Apple product user, it kinda worries me to hear and read about all the neglect that some long-time Apple users are receiving from apple care and public relations. I really hope this doesn't reflect the whole company as a whole. It would really dissapoint me if at this time of becoming a new Apple user, the Apple company started giving the cold shoulder and becoming disconnected from its customers. In my eyes Apple seemed to be that loving and customer caring company that tried its very best to become near and dear to its customers by providing unmatched quality products to it's loyal customer fan base. I really hope they don't veer away from this mind set.
Anyways the upshot is, I just wanted my first post to reflect how I feel about Apple and my Macbook and restablish some confidence in the Macbook. From my experience it's a great quality product and I hope to enjoy it for a long time. You guys will definitely get any updates as I use my Macbook and be hearing from me more often.. I've been reading a lot on this particualr forum but have been quiet untill now. Thanks for reading..
Regards,
Alex

  • Express very slow with new MacBook Pro

I have a 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini and an AirPort Express. When I connect to this network with a 1st gen Core Duo (802.11G) machine, transfer rates between computers run at typical G speeds. When I connect with the 2.4 Ghz machine, transfer rates between it and the Mini are much, much slower - less than 20% as fast as the 802.11G MBPro.
All machines have updates and show four bars of signal strength. I have no idea why the new MBPro is so dramatically slow.

  • I'm VERY pleased with my 1st MacBook Pro!

Often people post to complain about issues. i just wanted to post a message stating that i am very pleased with my MacBook Pro w/ Retina and 8GB RAM.
I switched from a Windows based system to my first Mac in December.  I use my laptop every day. I have not had a single issue with the MacBook up to this point.
I was able to print using my old Canon printer and even found a little app for my Omron BP Monitor which only comes with Windows software.
The MacBook Pro is a beautiful piece of technology.  Hopefully, it continues to be a smooth ride for me.

    Enjoy it.
    Best.

Yes, I too had this problem.
I was issued an update from Apple for a new version software as well as a new version of Lightrooom and now it shows up on the desktop and in finder as it should.

  • Graphite Airport with new MacBooks and MacBook Pros

We have a mobile lab that is using some old dual USB iBooks with a graphite airport base station. The iBooks are connecting to the base station without a problem and getting on the internet. In the next room over, a teacher with a MacBook is trying to get online with the same base station. The MacBook can see the Airport, but it will not receive an IP via DHCP. I've taken my own MacBook Pro over to the base station as well and the airport icon blinks on and off for my own machine.
Is this a compatibility issue with the Intel based laptops with airport extreme trying to connect to an old graphite base station?

If you believe the problem might be in the network settings, I am happy to let you compare yours to my working ones.
When the MacBook is connected to the Graphite base station's network:
    System Preferences > Network > Show: AirPort > TCP/IP
    . Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
. IP Address: 10.0.1.x (provided by the base station as DHCP server)
. Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (provided by the base station as DHCP server)
. Router: 10.0.1.1 (provided by the base station as DHCP server)
    . DHCP Client ID: (blank)
    . DNS Servers: (blank)
. IPv6 Address: (string of hexadecimals)(self-assigned by MacBook)
    System Preferences > Network > Show: AirPort > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6
    . Configure IPv6: Automatically
. IPv6 Address: (string of hexadecimals)(assigned by MacBook)
    . Router: (blank)
System Preferences > Network > Show: AirPort > PPPoE
    . (everything unchecked)
System Preferences > Network > Show: AirPort > Proxies
    . Configure Proxies: Manually
. Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) checked
    . (everything else unchecked)
System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations
. AirPort is third on the list and checked.
. (FireWire and Ethernet are the first two.)
. (I currently have no FireWire or Ethernet connection.)
System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Status
. "AirPort is connected to the network (name). You are connected to the Internet via Airport."
In AirPort Admin Utility, version 4.2:
(Select base station) > Configure > Network
    . Distribute IP Addresses (checked)
. AirPort client computers: Share a single IP address (using DHCP and NAT) (selected)
    . (everything else unselected)
Please note that the AirPort Utility that comes with new MacBooks cannot configure a Graphite base station.
I can't think of anything else that would be relevant to whether the base station supplies an IP address to a wirelessly connected MacBook, but you are welcome to ask about other settings.
If the problem with the MacBook Pro is in the network settings and not a result of interference, the only thing I can think of is a possible DHCP conflict. Please make sure "Enable AirPort to Ethernet bridging" is turned off in AirPort Admin Utility.

  • Help please with 2006 Macbook 13inch, for tv hook up.

Help please with 2006 Macbook 13inch, to hook up to tv for streaming. The display works through VGA but the audio isn't working. Got a plug that goes into headphone jack on computer and connects into the audio jack on the back of tv but no sound. I'm not quite sure what the issue is, whether its the wrong plug, the tv, or the computer. Best Buy says this is the right plug and it seems that it would be, but who knows. If anyone has any experience in this, I would appreciate the help!

Make sure those audio plugs are matched with the VGA plug. With your MacBook running something with audio switch between your sources on the TV Component, Composite and such. See if the sound is coming from another source. If so then you've got your audio plugs in the wrong jacks.
Also could you post the make and model number of your TV.

  • Very Pleased With Book Quality

Just received 17 copies of a 32 page hardback book (modern lines theme) of digital photographs my students at German Swiss International School in Hong Kong put together a couple of weeks ago. Used Aperture 2.1.2 and had been just a little concerned about what the quality might be like after reading a few posts in this forum...but I'm really very pleased with them all! The books look exactly as I had wanted and I'm sure the students will be delighted.
Will definitely be using this service again and will be encouraging staff and students at the school to do the same.

I happen to chime in and notice that there are some discussion related to Blurb BookSmart and Blurb book.
Here is my advice... be cautious. To produce a better book outcome, be SURE that you have calibrated your monitor. Or the output looks misery.
Also, be sure to download the ICC print profile for Blurb's outsourced printers that use HP Indigo printer and be sure to soft proof the images in Photoshop. I know it sounds like lot of work involved, but the dividend pay off nicely... along with time, effort, patience.
For those who prefer to use Adobe InDesign and Photoshop to do custom full-bleed design, it can be done with Blurb. The catch is that you need to use Blurb Booksmart app to import all of finished full-bleed layout design you created in InDesign and Photoshop (or even Illustrator).
There are lot of pretty nice helpful information and pointers with frame of references all over at Blurb Forums as well.
    Hope that helps.

  • Version of OSX Shipping With New MacBooks?

Is 10.4.9 or 10.4.10 shipping with new MacBooks? Preferably, I'm looking for an answer from someone who has recently purchased a new MB.
    Thanks.

There was a topic about this just four days ago:

Apple rarely updates the build that is installed at the factory unless new hardware requires the update. The current MacBooks should be shipping with 10.4.9.

  • I have just got my iPad2 and very pleased with it. I have a question regarding the monthly (recommended) battery full charge.  Should I let the battery completely die down to nothing at all or would this be bad for my iPad?

I have just got my iPad2 and am very pleased with it. I have a question regarding the monthly (recommended) battery full charge.  Should I let the battery completely die down to nothing at all before I plug in to recharge or would this complete drain be bad for my iPad?

It's not bad for it - on this page www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html it says :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • Facebook problems with new macbook pro.

Facebook problems with new macbook pro. I can't publish photo albums to timeline. I can't share items onto timeline. Photos I'm tagged in don't appear on my timeline. Any help?

Yes! Been living in a hellish nightmare since Sept-Oct. Unlike you, however, Apple has been of no help. They say the iPad is unhackable, plist and crash reports are none of my business and who understands them anyway, their route tracing apps are probably not reliable. The best they could do was wipe the iPad clean. Lost photos they said would be in the cloud....
Almost immediately was back in somebody's VPN, their remote controller, video, audio, working. Got the purple buddy for the first time today. I have been invaded, my iPad no longer feels like my own, I have lost thanksgiving, Christmas, new year trying to track down the invaders, signed up for a Cisco course, set/reset passwords.
I don't know who else to contact... Or what next to do.
I've read similar frustration in other posts, scattered around the support communities. Yours is the only one that has worked toward a solution.
How did you get anyone at apple to look at your logs and acknowledge there is a problem?
Would be happy for a suggestion on how to proceed. Already been the apple store genius and tech on phone route.

  • No Apple Remote or Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adaptor included with new MacBooks

    Hi!
I just picked up a new (black) MacBook yesterday from the Apple Retail Store in Meadowhall (Sheffield). I was quite surprised to open the box and find that the Apple Remote and Mini-DVI to VGA adaptor cable are now optional items and no longer included in the package. Okay, they're not expensive (an extra £30.00 to add both of them), but I just thought I'd mention it to let potential customers know.
I have to say that I'm very pleased at the speed bump and the 250GB hard drive though (you can never have too much space). Also good to have 2GB RAM out of the box (rather than paying an extra £90.00 for the 2GB model). Excellent!

bford0001 - 15% restocking fee? Did you buy it from an Apple Retail store? I bought a black MacBook from them just under two weeks ago (a 2.2 with 160GB HD and 2GB RAM) and they let me take it back and walk out of the store without charging me anything!
One other thing I have noticed - why has the L2 cache dropped to 3MB from 4MB? I know the processor is more powerful, but doesn't that mean it would just about level out, because of the reduction? I noticed the same for the £1,299.00 MacBook Pro and that on the other two models, it's gone up to 6MB. Anyone know how this would change the performance?
