Very Poor Call Quality

Last week, a technician came to my house to resolve an internet issue.  He resolved the issue by installing a new box in the basement.  However, I believe this caused another issue.  After he left, my phone calls immediately were of very poor quality.  I called tech support once, and the issue seemed to go away, but later that day it came back.
Basically, When I'm on the phone, I can only hear every other word the other person is saying.  It makes some calls impossible to comprehend.  This problem is not consistent.  It seems to go away and come back.
I called tech support again.  They reset the service to my house.  I checked all the jacks and did a bunch of monkey business at their command.  The problem has not been resolved.  I plugged my phone directly into the box downstairs and the problem exists there too, so I know it's not the wires in my house.  As I'm typing, I'm on hold again waiting for tech support to answer (I'm using a cell phone because my landline is useless).  This is crazy for the price I pay.  I expect better service than this.

Hi BrunoSal,
Are you still having this issue?  We'd love to have a look at it for you if it's still occuring, just let us know

  • Very poor video quality after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I have very poor video quality after transcoding the video file (MPEG) in  Adobe Encore CS5.1. Below you see my used settings in my filmproject.
The problem exists after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1. I checked all steps and found out that there is no problem until transcoding. My exported file  in MPEG has very good video and audio quality.
    Facts:
    1. Camcorder: Panasonic AG-AC160AEJ
Operating System : Windows 7, 64 Bit, Ultimate edition
    Source files: MTS files
    Recording settings (clip settings):
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Frame Rate: 25,00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,0
    2. Sequence settings in Premiere Pro
Sequence was created from Clip directly with settings above.
    3. Exporting settings in Adobe Premiere Pro:
Match sequence settings was activated. Now other changes were set.
    4. Exported File:
    Video
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Data Transfer Rate: 25920 kBit / s
    Frame rate: 25
    Audio:
    Bit rate: 384 kBit / s
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Frequence: 48 kHz
    5. Transcoding settings in Adobe Encore:
I used different transcoding settings such as automatic DVD Transcoding, CBR and VBR.I also set “use maximum render quality”. But all results were always the same: very poor quality.
Why does the encore transcoding cause such bad video quality?
How can I solve this problem?
    Please help me soon.
    Best regards.

    Hi Ann,
    1) I did not only „Automatic (based on source)“ options in my tests, but also many other customized options.
The results are very poor. I have done a new test with the following settings. The result is also poor:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_mpeg2dvd_1.m2v
    Export Settings:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
    Preset: Custom
Codec: MainConcept MPEG Video, Quality: 5
    Frame Rate: 25 fps
    Field Order: Upper
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Automatic (based on source)
    Render at Maximum Rate: [active]
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 pass
    Minimum Bitrate (Mbps): 5
    Target Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    Maximum Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    GOP Settings
    M Frames: 4
    N Frames: 12
    Use Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    Multiplexer: None
    2) Why shouldn’t I use the “Match Sequence Settings” in exporting? Because of the big output file size?
I used it and the results are very good as I expected:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_MatchSequenceSettings.mpeg
    Export Settings
    Match Sequence Settings [selected]
    1920 x 1080, 25 fps, Upper, Quality 50
    User Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    3) I tried also Dynamic Link in PremierePro (to Encore).
    The results are also poor.
    4) I will test also LagarithLoslessCodec and frameserving +DGMPGDec. But the video is vertical long drawn-ot.
I think I did not use it correctly.

  • IPhone Poor Call Quality Without Headphones

I have an iPhone 4s.  When I am working in my home office, the carrier signal level is good - typically three or four bars out of 5.  However, the call quality is sometimes very poor - I can hear the other caller very clearly but they cannot hear me clearly and often say that it sounds like I am talking through a long tube or that my voice has some kind of metallic quality. However, when I plug my earphones in, it all works just fine. The call quality is generally fine in other locations.
I did wonder if this is something do to with the apple ambient noice cancelling system and some kind of interaction with it and the case that I am using but I have tested it with and without case and it makes no difference.
Any suggestions that you might have would be gratefully received.

I did they have know referred me to Apple!!!

  • GT680 - Very poor microphone quality [sample included]

Ever since I purchased the MSI GT680R-008US, I noticed that the microphone quality was VERY poor. Here's a small sample that I recorded. I was right next to the microphone at the time: http://www.zshare.net/audio/898240503bc24764/
I've tried playing around with every possible setting, but couldn't find anything to help it (or anything at all, for that matter).
Is the microphone really naturally this crappy?

    Hi igardner
You could try the marked solutions in this link, it could possibly be the same issue as the one in W520.

  • My iphone 5 is having poor call quality?  Verizon can't figure out why.  Anyone else having problems?

My phone has been working without any problems since I bought it in January.  Yesterday I had a Zagg invisible shield applied to my phone and as soon as I got home, the call quality was horrible.  I could hear people on the other end however, they couldn't hear me, the call would be dropped, or they said I sounded like I was in a tunnel.  I removed the zagg cover and it is still not working like it was before.  I called Verizon and did everything from resetting the network settings, to restoring the phone to factory settings and restoring it from the last back up.  Nothing is working.  I have never had these problems up until yesterday.  Verizon would try calling my cell and it would ring on their side but not on mine.  Very strange.  Phone is up to date on its software.
Anyone else having these issues or know a way it can be fixed???
    Thank you!!!!

    Hello the third!
I placed the <ul> css code you supplied in the main.css file as well. No avail.
But I did just notice there is a tiny thin yellow line between the logo and nameplate graphics at the top and the menu bar. That yellow line disappears in IE8 compatability mode. The graphics sit right on top of the menu bar, as it appears in Dreamweaver, and the margins and such all line up. In regular IE7, the thin yellow line is always there.
I don't know if this helps, but it is something I just noticed while tinkering around.

  • Very poor print quality when printing out photos.

I used an IPhone 4S and no matter what quality of paper I used the photo came out indistinct andof very poor quality. I am using brand new HP inks.

    Hi,
Just a question: do you know what is the quality (resolution) of the photo on your phone ?

  • Very Poor Image Quality In Viewer, JPEG Artifacts

I upgraded to Aperture 3 some time ago, and purchased a new Mac Pro specifically for this application.  I am an amature/ sometime professional photographer and I have been using Aperture since Version 1.  This weekend I finally had some time to sit down with Aperture 3 for some serious work with my scanned film images.  These are large TIF masters scanned in with my Nikon CoolScan 9000.  Some are medium format black & white Tri-X Pan images, others are 35mm, also black & white Tri-X Pan.  Everything scanned in on the Nikon is at the maximum resolution for the master, on the theory that I can always bump it down later if that's necessary.
I am noticing vastly lower image quality in the viewer then with Aperture 2.  Specifically, I am seeing massive JPEG artifacts in the viewer image then I have ever seen before.  The images also render darker in the viewer then before. These artifacts do not appear when I export my images (say as JPEGS for posting to a web page), or when I print them.  The quality of the exported and print images seem just fine and the exported JPEGS are completely free of the artifacts I am seeing in the viewer.
I have tried rebuilding the previews several times, experimenting with different quality settings.  I have experimented with different proof profile settings.  My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and I have tried various paper settings for it as well as other proof profile settings such as the Adobe and Apple RGB settings and the generic grey profiles.  Every time I change a setting I have forced a rebuild of the previews to no detectable effect.  Nothing I do seems to have any effect whatsoever on the image quality in the viewer which remains relentlessly the same as it always was.
This poor viewer image quality is making it very difficult to work in Aperture 3.  I suspect there is a setting somewhere like an easter egg in this new Aperture I haven't found yet but it is becoming very frustraiting and I could use a pointer because, again, nothing I have tried has changed the image quality in the viewer in any way I can detect and the photos look perfectly awful there...darker and loaded with JPEG artifacts. Things export and print just fine, but I need to see what I am going to get in the viewer or I can't do my work.

I interpret this as ... Eventually you should be looking at the Master with the Version changes applied. I'm assuming at this point, you aren't looking at the Preview. Since you don't need Previews to view and edit your images.
Yeah...that's sort of what I gleaned from that text. I was experimenting with the preview settings because I couldn't see any other way to fix the problem.  What I'm hearing now is that the problem has no fix.  If you scan in black & white film negatives (or anything else that's monochrome I suppose) with the color space set as gray scale you are asking for trouble.  The sense I get from the text Gomez Addams referred me to is the behavior in that case is unpredictable, and furthermore film photographers aren't the customer base Apple is trying to cultivate with this product.
Aperture is designed to work with images from digital cameras which use an RGB color space...
Okay...fine.  I have several digital cameras I occasionally use for professional work and I am here to tell you Aperture is an absolute blessing for that work. I do shoots every now and then for a local community newspaper and I would not want to live without this product. I remember back when I was a teenager in the 70s being up all night in the darkroom to get an assignment I'd had to cover right before deadline, and then go to my day job the next morning without any sleep. This is much better. And even with the personal art photography it is good to be able to just scan things in and make adjustments in the computer.  You can do so much more. I would not want to go back.
But I reckon I need to find something I can rely on for my film work, or at least my black & white film work because as I read this Apple is not supporting film photography with this product and black & white film photography in particular and some of us still use film. No...scanning in my Tri-X negatives in the CoolScan as color produces weird results and anyway Photoshop and GIMP for goodness sakes seem to handle grayscale files just fine. Plus, I've already got thousands of those negatives scanned, I am not rescanning all that in RGB just to satisfy Aperture. The color slide film scans don't seem to be a problem, but that's now. I think I'm being told not to count on That always being the case either.
Aperture is designed to work with images from digital cameras...
Okay...fine...film is old technology after all, Nikon isn't even making their film scanners anymore...check the prices on the few still new-in-the-box ones left out there. My CoolScan 9000 is selling for twice on the second-hand market what I paid for it new and new it wasn't cheap. And yet it's not economically viable for Nikon to continue making them. Film is dying. But I still like working with film and film cameras and I reckon I'll keep doing that until I can't get any more of it and my stash of Tri-X Pan bulk rolls runs out.
Thank you all very much for your help. I think I see what I need to do now.

  • Very poor sound quality on bluetooth headphones through HP Envy 700-074 desktop

I recently purchased a pair of Bose AE2W wireless bluetooth headphones to use with my HP Envy 700-074 desktop computer. After successfully pairing the headphones the sound quality is extremely poor. I know the headphones are not the pronblem since they sound beautiful when paired with my iPhone or iPad.
I have tried updating the driver, but I have the most current version installed according to the computer. Adjustment of the Beats Audio controls or any other sound controls does not help.

  • IPhone 5s poor call quality - static

I received my 5s a couple weeks ago and the phone had A LOT of static on the line during phone calls. I went to the local AT&T store and was told that it might be the sim card that was shipped in the phone, so they replaced it. That did not fix the problem. So, I ordered a second 5s and have had it a few days and am noticing the same level of static on phone calls. It's loud enough to be bothersome. Surely I haven't received the only two phones that have this problem?! I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for this problem, or if they've experienced this issue and if so, how it was resolved.
    Thanks!

    Hey guys
I got the same problem! But sadly no solution yet... ( i really hope this is a software problem....)
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23744858#23744858
During a voice call all my friends are complaining that they can't understand me.
After googeling i found out, that there were similar problems with the old iphone 5 (http://www.iphone5callquality.com/) but there are not that many people with this problem with the iphone 5s or 5c (I got a iphone 5c).
    What to do...

  • Very poor image quality in book Preview

I have just finished creating my first book. When I previewed it, I found that many of the images (not all) have very strange artifacts - red  or white outlines, outlines, white eyes, etc. What I see in iPhoto on my screen looks great. Any thoughts?

Boot in safe mode and preview -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If it is good order while in safe mode and then reboot to get back to normal mode

  • Very Poor Video Quality

I was trying to iChat with my daughter this afternoon and the video quality was horrible. She was pixelating large and small, trailing, etc. I think it may have something to do with the refresh rate. She has a new MacBook, which I assume is running 10.5.6. Any ideas?

    Hi Defcom,
thanks to you man, finally my iChat Video is working. After fiddling around for several weeks and not finding the answer, I saw your recommendations for the Quicktime-streaming and the bandwide maximum, put it to work and now iChat is working.
    Thanks to you man.
This leeves the question why such important information is nowhere to be found in the documentation of iChat. This is a serious omission in my opinion. Look at how many people have problems with iChat Video! And then such a simple solution, just somebody has to tell you.
    Thanks alot again defcom.

  • Very poor iTunes quality

Every song i play through iTunes at the moment is crackling and appears sped up slightly, eventually jumping.
I have played music through other problems which sound OK.
Any idea what the problem is?

Can't help you but am on the same mission. My audio playback is stuttering and skipping randomly with or without programs open. All the programs are updated etc. It doesn't seem to be only an itunes problem. Very difficult to get any answers. Any Apple Administrators out there?! I'm not feeling the love.

  • Poor receiving quality

So, recently I've been getting very poor video quality when I use Skype. My internet connection is fine (If I use another computer, the quality is great), and have the most recent released drivers for my graphics card. My system isnt over-worked, but still, the quality I get from my partner is very bad

Y'know, when trying to troubleshoot a problem when you're not able to see the situation with your own eyes, the only way to possibly do so it to ask questions and get answers to get a mental picture of the situation.  So....
There is a beta version of Skype available that is working well for many users, including me.    If you want to give it a try you can get it at:
    http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-beta
The version as of today is 5.11.0.102 and I'm using it with the latest nVidia driver dated September 13.
Do you have any idea why your download speed varies so much on the speedtest?  Is that desktop machine connected via wifi or Ethernet?   If I run a speedtest on any of a number of machines I never see my download speed vary more than a few percent.  Do you get the same difference between a number of tests if you run them on those other computers on the same network that don't have the video problem with Skype?
250 kb/s is on the low side for good video, and the fact that your connection to the Internet varies that much is suspicious.
The Call Tech Info may still be helpful.  It will show a number of factors between you and your one contact that could point to where the problem lies.   It might also be useful if you can call your contact on one of those other machines that don't seem to have the problem and get Call Tech Info there also, to compare the two.

  • Import Previews are very poor/pixelated ... D90 RAW

When I am importing my NEF files from my D90 with a card reader, my import previews are of a very poor image quality. Once the images are imported, previews look great.
Is there any way to improve the quality of import previews from the SD card?

Well Kevin, did you take look to the Aperture tutorials like this http://www.apple.com/de/aperture/tutorials/#organizeimport-importbasics ?
I am using a Nikon D100 and since few Weeks a D300 too and I do not have such trouble with the previews as you describe. Well, I do ever take a look to each image at full screen size and zoom it in to 100 % of size before I delete a photo. Thats can not be done in the simple preview window at import.
Yes, Adobe Lightroom has partly some advantages over Aperture, but what I ever saw and tried out with Lightroom - for me - only the printing capabilities are the one, of which Aperture has to pass.
I do have now over 15 thousend of photos in my Aperture library and do not want to switch over to Lightroom because of better printing features. If you like to switch over, do it - there is no reason to stay on with Aperture. Except you are using many of Apple Apps.
I use iMovie 09 and Final Cut Express for creating slide shows of my photos, more seldom I use iPhoto for this. I do a lot of lay out work with Pages, use iWeb for some of my sites and so on. Within all of them I use without any pain the photobrowser with photos from my Aperture library. That can not be done with Lightroom, for example.
