Very poor performance on oracle linux 6.3 on virtual-box 4.2

Dear all,
I installed an oracle linux 6.3 on vbox VM (2 gb RAM, 20 gb disk): the installation took a long time and after, I faced poor performance and big latency.
One bug reported:

Please, any idea so far ?

I can confirm that there is no issue with Virtualbox 4.2 and Oracle Linux 6.3. I use it all the time. Performance should be near native and some aspects like disk I/O may even be faster. Your problem could be insufficient hardware, like missing x86_64 or hardware virtualization support. However, like rukbat wrote, this is not the right forum to discuss Virtualbox and your computer hardware here. I suggest to start with the Virtualbox documentation to verify your hardware is sufficient.

  • Installing Oracle Linux 5.8 on Virtual Box

    I'm trying to install Oracle Linux 5.8 on Virtual Box. I have downloaded V31120-01 and burned to the DVD, I think successfully.
    However, when I start the Virtual machine, I get the Opening screen, "Oracle Linux" the little picture of the penguin guy, etc, so I think my DVD is good.
    The screen says, "To install or upgrade in graphical mode, press the <enter> key." So I do.
    Several lines of text flow across the screen, but then the process seems to stop with no prompt on what to do next or any indication that an error has occurred, it just stops.
    The last lines I can see are:

    I'm not sure if it's waiting for some input from me, or if there is a problem, but nothing happens beyond this point until I power down the virtual machine.

    There is no need to burn a DVD because Virtualbox can directly mount and boot from the .iso image you downloaded. It is usually a good idea to check the md5 checksum of your download with the number provided by the download page to verify your download is not corrupted. There are no problems installing any version of Oracle Linux under Virtualbox provided you have the right hardware. I suggest to check the Virtualbox documentation.

  • MSI GE70 2OE-015NL very poor performance on battery power

    Hey guys,
    First of all I want to say that I'm really happy with my GE70 notebook. Everything works perfectly fine except for this one thing... When I play games on the notebook while on battery power, the performance is very poor. For example when I normally on AC power get around 250 FPS, it drops down all the way to around 40-60 FPS on battery power. In real demanding games this can be very annoying, since I have to play on AC power constantly for games like Battlefield 4. Although this isn't really a problem for me most of the time, I just don't think that's the concept of a notebook... I monitored some statistics using MSI Afterburner and I noticed that the GPU's core clock is clocked all the way down to a constant 135MHz whilst gaming and the memory is clocked all the way down to around 400MHz. I'm using a GTX 765M. I've already tried changing settings in the Windows power settings, the NVIDIA control panel and I even looked into the BIOS, but I couldn't find a solution to this problem. Apparently the GTX 700M series GPUs support Optimus technology which should give a decent battery life using the full power of your GPU, but for me it doesn't do so. The battery gets drained in around 45 minutes while gaming on very poor performance. I hope you guys can help me out!

    Oyo,
    All Gamer NB are not done for play in battery mode, battery life are short and the power provide by a battery are far from the power adapter, this mean the NB get less power and your CPU and VGA are working in lower mode = lower result.
    This is normal because link to the battery, thepower adapter provide 120W, the battery 49W, you see the gap between them ^^
    So for play games, use the power adapter and the battery together, this is the best way.

  • URGENT: Migrating from SQL to Oracle results in very poor performance!

    *** IMPORTANT, NEED YOUR HELP ***
    Dear, I have a banking business solution from Windows/SQL Server 2000 to Sun Solaris/ORACLE 10g migrated. In the test environment everything was working fine. On the production system we have very poor DB performance. About 100 times slower than SQL Server 2000!
    Environment at Customer Server Side:
    Hardware: SUN Fire 4 CPU's, OS: Solaris 5.8, DB Oracle 8 and 10
    Data Storage: Em2
    DB access thru OCCI [Environment:OBJECT, Connection Pool, Create Connection]
    Depending from older applications it's necessary to run ORACLE 8 as well on the same Server. Since we have running the new solution, which is using ORACLE 10, the listener for ORACLE 8 is frequently gone (or by someone killed?). The performance of the whole ORACLE 10 Environment is very poor. As a result of my analyse I figured out that the process to create a connection to the connection pool takes up to 14 seconds. Now I am wondering if it a problem to run different ORACLE versions on the same Server? The Customer has installed/created the new ORACLE 10 DB with the same user account (oracle) as the older version. To run the new solution we have to change the ORACLE environment settings manually. All hints/suggestions to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Anton

    On the production system we have very poor DB performanceHave you identified the cause of the poor performance is not the queries and their plans being generated by the database?
    Do you know if some of the queries appear to take more time than what it used to be on old system? Did you analyze such queries to see what might be the problem?
    Are you running RBO or CBO?
    if stats are generated, how are they generated and how often?
    Did you see what autotrace and tkprof has to tell you about problem queries (if in fact such queries have been identified)?

  • Poor performance with Oracle Spatial when spatial query invoked remotely

    Is anyone aware of any problems with Oracle Spatial (10.2.0.4 with patches 6989483 and 7003151 on Red Hat Linux 4) which might explain why a spatial query (SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE) would perform 20 times worse when it was invoked remotely from another computer (using SQLplus) vs. invoking the very same query from the database server itself (also using SQLplus)?
    Does Oracle Spatial have any known problems with servers which use SAN disk storage? That is the primary difference between a server in which I see this poor performance and another server where the performance is fine.
    Thank you in advance for any thoughts you might share.

    OK, that's clearer.
    Are you sure it is the SQL inside the procedure that is causing the problem? To check, try extracting the SQL from inside the procedure and run it in SQLPLUS with
    set autotrace on
    set timing on
    SELECT ....If the plans and performance are the same then it may be something inside the procedure itself.
    Have you profiled the procedure? Here is an example of how to do it:

    @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/proftab.sql
    Prompt Secondly, use the profiler to gather stats on execution characteristics

  • Non jdriver poor performance with oracle cluster

    Hi,
    we decided to implement batch input and went from Weblogic Jdriver to Oracle Thin 9.2.0.6.
    Our system are a Weblogic 6.1 cluster and an Oracle 8.1.7 cluster.
    Problem is .. with the new Oracle drivers our actions on the webapp takes twice as long as with Jdriver. We also tried OCI .. same problem. We switched to a single Oracle 8.1.7 database .. and it worked again with all thick or thin drivers.
    So .. new Oracle drivers with oracle cluster result in bad performance, but with Jdriver it works perfectly. Does sb. see some connection?
    I mean .. it works with Jdriver .. so it cant be the database, huh? But we really tried with every JDBC possibility! In fact .. we need batch input. Advise is very appreciated =].
    Thanx for help!!

    Thx for quick replys. I forget to mention .. we also tried 10g v10.1.0.3 from instantclient yesterday.
    I have to agree with Joe. It was really fast on the single machine database .. but we had same poor performance with cluster-db. It is frustrating. Specially if u consider that the Jdriver (which works perfectly in every combination) is 4 years old!
    Ok .. we got this scenario, with our appPage CustomerOverview (intensiv db-loading) (sorry.. no real profiling, time is taken with pc watch) (Oracle is 8.1.7 OPS patch level1) ...
    WL6.1_Cluster + Jdriver6.1 + DB_cluster => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Jdriver6.1 + DB_single => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora8.1.7 OCI + DB_single => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora8.1.7 OCI + DB_cluster => 8-10sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora9.2.0.5/6 thin + DB_single => 4sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora9.2.0.5/6 thin + DB_cluster => 8sec
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora10.1.0.3 thin + DB_single => 2-4sec (awesome fast!!)
    WL6.1_Cluster + Ora10.1.0.3 thin + DB_cluster => 6-8sec
    Customers rough us up, because they cannot mass order via batch input. Any suggestions how to solve this issue is very appreciated.
    TIA

  • Very poor performance Windows RT with Citrix

    Hi All,
    I'm currently in a project with a customer implementing XenApp 7.6. The customer uses Dell XPS 10 tablets with Windows RT installed. We have installed the latest Receiver from the Microsoft Store and added a connection through a Citrix NetScaler Gateway
    VPX version 10.5.
    The user experience on the tablet is very very poor. This is extreme when browsing using Internet Explorer 11. On a normal Windows 8 client or a thin client with WES2009 the experience is good.
    Besides the bad performance there's also a problem with the home/start button on the remote OS (Windows Server 2012 R2). The button isn't working or only after multiple tries.
    This experience is also on a windows 8.1/10 machine with the Citrix Receiver from the store.
    Any thoughts about the issue's above? What can we do to optimize the environment for working with the Citrix Receiver from the store?
    Kind Regards,
    René

    Hi all,
    I have installed windows XP in Virtual Box, trying to install Oracle 10g in it. It won't start the installation..no clue about it.  I installed winrar(as the 10g setup was in rar format, had to extract it).
    without any issues winrar got installed, where as Oracle 10g simply wont get installed...no error message is thrown..
    in fact I have installed 10g on a XP PC just last week..not sure where what I am missing
    i am using "Briged Adapter" Network
    If anybody has experienced same issue, kindly let me know....

    Hi Srini,
    Thanks for helping me with the link to be frank I had looked into it long back...
    yes the software worked just yesterday, I had installed on XP(different machine).
    I added my PC to domain, logged in as Administrator & double clicked, same....no response.
    At last I used "command prompt" and it worked!!   not sure how or why...but worked.
    Now my database is created successfully
    Yes would like to know why this happened....and how things worked via command prompt & not by double click....would greatly appreciate if anybody helps me on this.

  • Poor performance using Oracle Text

    We are currently using wildcard queries and we have setup substring or prefix index which is recommended in Oracle's documentation in order to improve performance but we have not seen any improvements. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

  • Macbook (mid 2012, 9,2) has very poor performance since the day I bought it (less than 2 months ago)

    Problem description:
    My macbook is extremely slow since the day I bought it (which was less than 2 months ago)…Came preinstalled with Mavericks and 4GB of RAM. Upgraded it to 16GB hoping that would help, but that did very little…then upgraded to Yosemite. That just made it worse. Formatted the whole thing and installed clean Yosemite. Still, every time I right click, I get the rainbow loading icon and it hangs. Every time I open any file, or click any app, it hangs for a few seconds, again with a loading icon. Every time I play a song on iTunes or even VLC for that matter, it stops multiple times, every few seconds. Feels like it’s “buffering” while I’m playing a song off my hard drive. It’s been bothering me for too long now…Any idea what the issue is exactly?

    This demo uses JMS 1.0 and OC4J 10G supports JMS 1.1. In JMS 1.1, you cannot call setClientID() directly within the J2EE container. Due to this inherent change in the spec, the Chat Demo does not work properly in OC4J 10G.
    This is a known problem and we are working on rectifying this.
    Thanks,
    Rajat

  • VERY slow performance in Oracle Explorer

    Anything that i touch in the oracle explorer of visual studio 2003 is slow - extremely slow. Just expanding the treenode of tables is slow. On the same machine i have TOAD ticking away happily at a fast pace, but looking at the same database in oracle developer tools is almost impossible. Procedure windows are slow, but return with some patience. The query windows has yet to be seen open, havent had the patience to wait for it yet (>10minutes) and this is on a small five record two column test table.
    And to make thing worse - the entire visual studio is locked during the blackout operations...
    Help me, i would really like to use this tool!

    Christian,
    Thanks for your time and assistance.
    1) Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
    2) Yes
    3) Here is the information for two of the tables:
    Table empl_review_status contains 8 rows.
    desc empl_review_status
    Column Name Null? Type
    REVIEW_STATUS_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
    DESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(255)
    EMPL_LOGIN_USERID VARCHAR2(20)
    LAST_CHANGE_DATE DATE
    Table empl_review_template_item contains 574 rows
    desc empl_review_template_item
    Column Name Null? Type
    TEMPLATE_SECTION_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
    TEMPLATE_ITEM_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(255)
    TEMPLATE_INPUT_TYPE_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
    DISPLAY_TEXT VARCHAR2(2000)
    EMPL_LOGIN_USERID VARCHAR2(20)
    LAST_CHANGE_DATE DATE
    When I clicked on each table to select it the delay today was 18 seconds for empl_review_status and 13 seconds for empl_review_template_item. The delay for "retrieve data" was 57 seconds and 33 seconds respectively. Delay was not determined by number of rows since the larger table loaded more quickly.
    4) The Tables node opened in 2 seconds and contains 20 tables.
    Best regards,
    Lon

  • MOVED: K8MM3-V win2000 very poor performance

    This topic has been moved to AMD64 ATI/SiS/VIA based board.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=105470.0

    I've tried:
    original install of win2000: problems as above
    Fresh install of win2000 no service packs: same problems
    Fresh isntall of win2000 with lastest drivers from MSI website: same problems
    Fresh install of win2000 with service pack 4 (latest): same problems
    Fresh install of winXP: No problems at all
    As above but with latest MSI drivers: Still no problems at all
    It's definitely related to win2000 and I suspect it must be a mobo driver issue?

  • One specific MSAD account having very poor performance

    We have one specific MSAD EPM account that takes forever to login, access a planning form and run a report.  If this same user uses our testing native directory IDs he session is as fast as all other MSAD accounts.
    If another MSAD account uses his workstation they encounter no problems (thus not a workstation problem)
    We have dropped and added him back to the security groups, refreshed filters and reviewed his MSAD setup to make sure it is not different.
    Looking for other avenues or tools to use to determine why this individual is having problems.
    JTS

    Had to share this will all,
    Finally figured out what the problem was after sniffing through our entire network.  It was a workspace preference for Accessibility Mode.  For this user it was checked (File/Preferences/General/Accessibility Mode)
    Once unchecked the system speed was normal to other users
    Always the little things

    Follow the steps in the Install Guide, pay particular attention to the prereqs - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/toc.htm
