Very poor RemoteApp performance

When I run my WPF app locally or over a remote desktop connection (Windows 7 x64), the application runs smoothly with no performance issue. When I deploy the same WPF application to a MS 2008 Server R1 as a RemoteApp, the performance degrades
dramatically. The app becomes very sluggish and lags with every keystroke. Each action takes 10 to 30 seconds. During the freezes/slow down period, the CPU usage of the process running on the server spikes and pin the core (it is
a quad core CPU) at 100% for the duration. At the same time I observe no other process that is consuming any significant CPU or network activity.
Additional information:
The WPF application is a striped down testing harness containing only several RadRichTextBox controls with no business logic
The connection between my computer and the terminal server is over a gigabit LAN so network traffic is not an issue.
I run the application in maximize mode, which is 1680x1050 at 32bits color. I use the same resolution for the remote desktop connection test and it performs smoothly.
What can cause such a discrepancy in performance?

Very poor network performance with a G4

I have a white & grey G4 (1.25GHz and 256MB) running OS X 10.4.5. It's exhibiting very poor network performance, e.g. it will not FTP files over a LAN at more than about 40KB/second.
Other nodes on the same switch perform fine, as do other ports on the switch. The machine is set to autodetect for speed & duplex, so my question is -- how do I debug this? I've tried swapping network cables already...

This came down to an incompatibility between the G4 and the Cisco. When the switch is set to force 100Mbit but negotiate duplex, the G4 doesn't like it. Going back to auto speed & duplex fixed the problem...

Macbook Pro 11,2 tests very poor WiFi performance compared to iPad

Configuration:
MBP 11,2 running 10.10.1
Airport Express 2014 vintage
WiFi Scanner.app speed test results on MBP range from 1 to 3 Mbps. My iPad Air (or iPad Mini) in the same physical position tests between 18 and 28 Mbps. WiFi Scanner.app shows SNR of 17 to 18 dbm.
The reason I am testing is because I have noticed network performance on the new MBP to be very poor in our current NZ location. In Palo Alto 2 weeks ago the MBP wifi seemed fine - I didn't bother to test.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

MSI-6368 ver 2.1 very poor memory performance

Hi i recently recapped a very old MS-6368 mainboard after which it came up. Previously it used to freeze just before loading OS. The complete system specs are as follows:
P3 8.5C @ FSB 100 = 850 MHz
2 Sticks of PC133 SDRAM (Kingston 512MB & Non-branded 256 MB)
MSI 6368 ver 2.1
Onboard Trident Graphics
Cooler Master 350W
Seagate 20GB HDD (ST320413A), UATA-5
BIOS - optimal settings, Memory Clock - HOSTCLK+33MHz(133 MHz)
WinXP SP3.
I'm getting a memory transfer rate of just 97 MB/s in Memtest and in AIDA (memory read, write, copy & latency as 150MB/s, 306MB/s, 189 MB/s, 220.7ns). I have installed latest drivers (VIA 4 in 1) and still no improvement in memory throughput. Memory timing has been set by SPD.
a) One thing i have observed is "In order Queue Depth value" is 1. Is it normal?
b) I'm planning to use memory interleave enabler for this VIA chipset.
I will be grateful if someone who had this mainboard earlier can share the BIOS settings.

hi, i'm trying to install a pci graphics card(Zotac GT520 conventional PCI) into this old system to play some classic games. It is not getting selected as the primary display device by BIOS during boot though "Init Display" is set to PCI. So i have to boot into dos and by tweaking PCI configuration registers of the graphics card, i'm able to get it to work under windows.
But the performance is really poor probably due to incomplete manual tweaking. I was just assigning BAR's to the discrete card. System information utilities report onboard's video BIOS and not that of the discrete card. I guess the problem may be due to incompatibility in pci versions. Motherboard supports old pci spec 2.1 or 2.2 and the new graphics card may be complying to version 3.0. Further the graphics card is not an actual PCI card. It is a PCI-Express card with a PCI to PCI-E reversible bridge. However the specification states that the PCI-E should be compatible with PCI at software level.
Has anyone in this forum had a working system with MS-6368 mainboard with PCI graphics card? If so, did a normal pci graphics card(not the reversible bridge type as mentioned above) become the primary display device during boot?

Very poor RAID performance

Hi all
Sorry about this...I know this subject has come up a lot of times on the forum already but I've been unable to find anything that might explain the problem I'm currently having.
The board is a KT3 Ultra ARU. I'm using BIOS 5.6, a fresh install of Win XP, RAID drivers supplied with the motherboard and 2 Maxtor D740X 40GB 2MB Cache ATA 133 Harddrives.
First of all I connected each harddrive to it's own raid socket, made sure both were set to master, set up a RAID0 array and then followed the guide to RAID setup for this board that is posted by Mr. Steveo on the AMDMB forums. I installed the raid drivers when the prompt to press F6 came up for mass storage devices and then set them as a single 75GB NTFS. I then installed the O/S without any apparent problems. Once I'd installed all the other necessary drivers I installed SiSoft Sandra 2002 and benchmarked the new RAID0 setup. The new benchmark was 21089, almost 3500pts slower than a single D740X 40GB harddrive had benchmarked at (24460).
I began hunting around for ideas. I tried installing the raid performance patch and the pci latency patch. A tiny bit better. I decided I must have doen something wrong in the original installation and so redid everything from scratch...deleted the array, reformatted, fresh install etc.
After completing the 2nd fresh install and changing the memory usage to cache from programs I managed to get the benchmark up to just over 26000, still nowhere near what I was expecting to see. Is this all I can realistically expect to see in terms of performance gains or does anyone here think I've missed someting in the initial installation/setup. As you can see in my sig I'm currently running my cpu unlocked at 166MHz. Although this motherboard has a 1/5 divider which should ensure the pci, agp and ide slots all run at their correct speeds when the FSB is turned up to 166MHz I never the less took the precaution of setting the FSB to 133MHz before starting out.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've got hold of a copy of the Kunibert modded BIOS for full raid plus the drivers for it but don't see any point in using it if there's something more serious at fault

Thanks for the advice. I've now tried setting the PCI latency to 64 and 96. When I set it to 64 the HDD benchmark rose to 28967, a 3000pt gain. When I set it to 96 the score dropped to 28003. I've not tried running at 128 yet, since I assumed the score would drop again.
Are the scores shown as comparisons in SiSoft Sandra anywhere near achievable in "real life" situations. Any idea if there's a place I can check my HDD's against ones of the same spec? I tried running PC Mark 2002 and the HDD performance was rated at 1092 if I recall correctly.
The tests were run on a HDD's that were formatted and had just a fresh install of Win XP, fuzzy logic and SiSoft Sandra on them.
Whilst the new score is better than the score I was getting when using just 1 40GB HDD on the normal IDE channels it was actually scoring the same until I changed the PCI latency setting, which means the old single drive set up would probably still score the same as the "faster" RAID setup

Installing 2009-001 Airport Client Update - very poor wireless performance

After installing the 2009-001 Airport Client update I cannot reliably connect using wireless. I have an early Core Duo Black Macbook running 10.5.6. Up until this point I have had zero problems with wireless (even with 10.5.6).
At home I can sometimes connect if I right by my wireless access point.
At work I can connect in some places but not in others.
Often I can connect for 1 minute and then the connection drops and nothing I do after that will restore it.
I have tried many many different things to no avail. Please do not ask me to reset PRAM, delete plist preferences, add a new location, turn off IPv6 etc etc.
I have tried them all!
My console log reports:
Error: Apple80211Associate(0 failed -6
Error: airportd MIG failed = -g (null) (port=67087)
Error: processcommanddict() failed
My suspicion is that multiple wireless networks in the same place is maybe part of the problem.

Replacing my Airport Extrreme card seems to have fixed the problem.
I can't explain why my old Airport Extreme would suddenly break after the 2009-001 Airport client update. But after a complete reinstall of Leopard my Macbook still wouldn't connect reliably. I even took the Airport card firmware back to 1.2.2 and it still made no difference. It looks as if the 2009-001 update did something permanent or stressed some component so that it no longer works reliably.

Dear, I have a banking business solution from Windows/SQL Server 2000 to Sun Solaris/ORACLE 10g migrated. In the test environment everything was working fine. On the production system we have very poor DB performance. About 100 times slower than SQL Server 2000!
Environment at Customer Server Side:
Hardware: SUN Fire 4 CPU's, OS: Solaris 5.8, DB Oracle 8 and 10

DB access thru OCCI [Environment:OBJECT, Connection Pool, Create Connection]
Depending from older applications it's necessary to run ORACLE 8 as well on the same Server. Since we have running the new solution, which is using ORACLE 10, the listener for ORACLE 8 is frequently gone (or by someone killed?). The performance of the whole ORACLE 10 Environment is very poor. As a result of my analyse I figured out that the process to create a connection to the connection pool takes up to 14 seconds. Now I am wondering if it a problem to run different ORACLE versions on the same Server? The Customer has installed/created the new ORACLE 10 DB with the same user account (oracle) as the older version. To run the new solution we have to change the ORACLE environment settings manually. All hints/suggestions to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks in advance.

On the production system we have very poor DB performanceHave you identified the cause of the poor performance is not the queries and their plans being generated by the database?
Do you know if some of the queries appear to take more time than what it used to be on old system? Did you analyze such queries to see what might be the problem?
Are you running RBO or CBO?
if stats are generated, how are they generated and how often?
Did you see what autotrace and tkprof has to tell you about problem queries (if in fact such queries have been identified)?

BI Statistics Highly Aggregated cube 0TCT_CA1 load ffrom DataSource 0TCT_DSA1 has very poor load performance.
In our DEV BW, it ran 8 min for 12,000 records. We have even worse performance in test box.
Initial loads then run very long since DataSource 0TCT_DSA1 does not allow us to load by calendar month.
If you have seen this issue, please let me know.

Compressing the cube would not help, since the cube is empty & we are trying to load 90 days of history.
The source table has an index on the timestamp field that the extractor uses in it's delta loads.
The loads run very slow, even with index dropped & no PSA.
We know that in production there will be appx rows 400,000 loaded 14,400 added with daily delta loads due to aggregation.
So we are seeing slow delta loads in our QA testing.
Not sure why the extractor can't just deliver the 14K aggregated rows vs. 400K.
Note: DS 0TCT_DSA1 has no selction criteria when doing initial full loads.

Apex report performance is very poor with apex_item.checkbox row selector.

I'm working on a report that includes some functionality to be able to select multiple records for further processing.
The report is based on a view that contains a couple of hundred thousand records.
When i make a selection from this view in sqlplus , the performance is acceptable but the apex report based on the same view performes very poorly.
I've noticed that when i omit the apex_item.checkbox from my report query, performance is on par with sqlplus. (factor 10 or so quicker).
Explain plan appears to be the same with or without checkbox function in the select.

Unfortunately changing the pagination doesnt make much of a difference in this case.
Without the checkbox the query takes 2 seconds.
With checkbox it takes well over 30 seconds.
The second report region on this page based on another view seems to perform reasonably well with or without the checkbox.
It has about the same number of records but with a different view query.
There are also a couple of filter items in the where clause of the report queries (same for both reports) based on date and acn_code and both reports have a selectlist item displayed in their regions based on a simple lov. These filter items don't seem to be of influence on the performance.
I have also recreated the report on a seperate page without any other page items or where clause and the same thing occurs.
With the checkbox its very very slow (more like 20 times slower).
Without it , the report performs well.
And another thing, when i run the page with debug on i don't see the actual report query:
0.08: show report
0.08: determine column headings
0.08: activate sort
0.08: parse query as: APEX_CMA_ONT
0.09: print column headings
0.09: rows loop: 30 row(s)
and then the region is displayed.
I am using databaselinks in the views b.t.w

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
1. If you don't own another Mac
a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
3. Partition and install OS X
a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
          OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
          The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
          You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.

a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

Very poor SMB share performance on 3TB time capsule.

Hi,
Is the SMB shares performance on time capsule suposed to be very poor compared to the AFP shares?
My TC will to around 9MB/s transfers using AFP, but on SMB it will do around 1.25MB/s (varies from a few KB/s to peaks of 4MB/s).
I tested both protocols using a ethernet cable connected from my macbook pro directly to the TC.
This is a 3TB time capsule runing firmware 7.6.1, and I did a factory reset before my tests.
Time machine backups were disabled during the tests.
I need SMB for my WDTV media players.

I would not say it is supposed to be.. but you are probably correct that it is very poor.. This issue crops up time and again,,, but not from people running Macs generally.. it is windows that is the problem.
A few things to check.
1. Are the names actually SMB correct?? ie short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. Both TC name and wireless names if you use wireless.
2. Workgroup set correctly. ie WORKGROUP .. this probably doesn't come up with the Mac but affects most PC connections and possibly the WD TV
3. How old is the TC? If it is an early release Gen 4, you can take it back to 7.5.2 firmware.. frankly much of the trouble was introduced with Lion.. as they changed the SAMBA setup.. I would test from the WDTV.. or a PC.. if it doesn't glitch you are doing better than the Mac can do.. ie the reading in the Mac is pure Lion Lunacy.. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206668?start=0&tstart=0
One of those apple changes that shows.. they hardly test anything anymore. Do a google search for Lion SMB fix.

After enabling rewrite proxy -- performance very very poor

Hi,
I have installed Gateway on different machine and Protal server with rewriter on another machine.
Wihtout rewriter proxy (10443) , the application was working very fast when I access through internet.
After enabling rewriter proxy , the performance is very very poor. When I access the application from internet its taking 2 minutes to show the login page then for validation 3 minutes its taking.
Could you please help me on this

My ISP is Speakeasy. (I'm in the process of switching to AT&T, though.)
The only model number on the unit is WRT330N, so I'm not sure what other model number you mean. (Do you mean the FCC number, which is Q87-WRT330N? Or do you mean the serial number?)
I'm running firmware version 1.00.4, which appears to be the latest version. And my main computers are running Mac OS X.

Very poor Random IO performance of 24 HDD Mirror-2 CSV on Win2012 R2 (Solved)

We already have a 2 separate Win2012 Mirror-2 Storage Clusters (in production) and had noted that performance was very poor.
We were looking to upgrade to Win2012R2 and storage tiering, we wanted to understand why the storage systems were performing so poorly. So, we have not built out a new storage cluster, with 2 nodes, 3 JBODs and 24 x2TB Seagate ES2 SAS drives.
We have run IOMeter to measure IOPs and the numbers are very poor, regardless of the 'geometries' we choose. Our Write IOPs results for 16KB block (this our typical DB page size) are:
2 columns, 64KB Interleave = 1043
2 columns, 256KB Interleave = 1176
4 columns, 64KB Interleave = 1424
4 columns, 256KB Interleave = 1688
8 columns, 256KB Interleave = 1677
We only tested Write IO because this should be the slowest/worse case IOPs values.
We also tested each HDD individually and they range between 270 and 330 IOPs.
By our math, the IOPs values should be in the range of 3000-3600 == 24 HDDs x IOPs/HDD div by 2 [for mirror-2], but the tested are showing values which are barely 50% of this.
Any assistance/tips would be appreciated.

16KB I/Os never touch the whole RAID stripe so that's why you see virtually never performance increase (I;m surprised you actually see any). Try using bigger request size to see would it make any difference. You need multiple workers and deep I/O queues.
What are you I/O Meter settings for test except write size?

MSI GE70 2OE-015NL very poor performance on battery power

Hey guys,
First of all I want to say that I'm really happy with my GE70 notebook. Everything works perfectly fine except for this one thing... When I play games on the notebook while on battery power, the performance is very poor. For example when I normally on AC power get around 250 FPS, it drops down all the way to around 40-60 FPS on battery power. In real demanding games this can be very annoying, since I have to play on AC power constantly for games like Battlefield 4. Although this isn't really a problem for me most of the time, I just don't think that's the concept of a notebook... I monitored some statistics using MSI Afterburner and I noticed that the GPU's core clock is clocked all the way down to a constant 135MHz whilst gaming and the memory is clocked all the way down to around 400MHz. I'm using a GTX 765M. I've already tried changing settings in the Windows power settings, the NVIDIA control panel and I even looked into the BIOS, but I couldn't find a solution to this problem. Apparently the GTX 700M series GPUs support Optimus technology which should give a decent battery life using the full power of your GPU, but for me it doesn't do so. The battery gets drained in around 45 minutes while gaming on very poor performance. I hope you guys can help me out!

All Gamer NB are not done for play in battery mode, battery life are short and the power provide by a battery are far from the power adapter, this mean the NB get less power and your CPU and VGA are working in lower mode = lower result.
This is normal because link to the battery, thepower adapter provide 120W, the battery 49W, you see the gap between them ^^
So for play games, use the power adapter and the battery together, this is the best way.

Very poor performance Windows RT with Citrix

I'm currently in a project with a customer implementing XenApp 7.6. The customer uses Dell XPS 10 tablets with Windows RT installed. We have installed the latest Receiver from the Microsoft Store and added a connection through a Citrix NetScaler Gateway
VPX version 10.5.
The user experience on the tablet is very very poor. This is extreme when browsing using Internet Explorer 11. On a normal Windows 8 client or a thin client with WES2009 the experience is good.
Besides the bad performance there's also a problem with the home/start button on the remote OS (Windows Server 2012 R2). The button isn't working or only after multiple tries.
This experience is also on a windows 8.1/10 machine with the Citrix Receiver from the store.
Any thoughts about the issue's above? What can we do to optimize the environment for working with the Citrix Receiver from the store?
