Very quiet constant beep on forced shutdown

I dont know what just happened - but on startup my mouse froze and the puter hung - i couldnt even ctrl-alt-del.  So it used the reset button, that didnt work so i hit the off switch until it shut down.  After the fans had stopped i was aware of a very quite constant beeping that definately came from the computer - where i dont know and i certainly didnt recognise it as an alarm from the motherboard like what you get when the chip is getting up to temp or something isnt right at boot-up.
Would anyone have any ideas as to what it was as im sure it is related to the system hanging.
regards to you all

The reason why I mentioned the CPU Warning Temperature option  is it tends to start to operate below the setting in the bios in my experience of using the board. Raising it to say 63/66c should remove that as a possible cause of the beeping. The board will still shut down if the cpu reaches a critical temperature. It is just a warning beep.
Hi Labtech, yes it is the ilsr and the bios is award 7.70.  I did an update last night on the PC Alert and since then its reporting 4 degrees cooler.  Ive not done the bios as there was nothing there in the fixes that I thought related to me and ive heard that with bios unless there is something to fix dont fix it.  I will though flash it if you advise me to.
Although I know what was causing the warning beep, i still havent found out what or even where this other very quiet beeping came from on the board.  Im convinced though it was not a bios warning beep like the one we have been talking about with regard to the cpu temp.  That is unless you great techies can tell me otherwise (cos im still worrying about it even thought it hasnt happend again )

  • A new Mac Mini seems to have a very quiet constant squeaking sound, is this normal?

    Hi everyone,
I just purchased a brand new Mac Mini (i5) yesterday, and today in my very quiet room noticed that there is a very quiet squeeking sound coming from the unit (I believe it is near the front of the machine, opposite where the ports are). It is constant and changes pitch very slightly - but when there is a chirping noise from the hard-drive doing work, I think it stops then comes back straight after.
Any idea's if this is a problem and if I should be worried? It's just a bit annoying.
    I have the latest 2013 i5 model.
    Thanks everyone,
    John.

If you purchased the full AppleCare service support extended plan with automatic enrollment with the Mini computer, and you get a new one (or refurbished) ask that the Plan coverage be moved to the replacement Mac. Or refunded if you choose to wait & want to re-think your next product. They may be able to re-credit your method of payment, if a credit card.
I usually read through the product support discussion forums to see what the patterns of issues are, since that may be an indicator of a sort within a narrow specific build series model & sub-year version; and am watchful of graphic card problems in models where the parts may be difficult or costly to replace, if at all, later on.
At least with a Mini, you can choose several display adapters and hope to get a good match with whatever kind of display or digital TV you may wish to try & use as a screen. Some don't do all that well, & others do better.
    Good luck & happy computing!

To fix your issue is too complicated and lengthy to go into all of it here, it will require the services of person very familiar and experienced with Mac's to first recover your data and then restore OS X back to a functional state, then hopefully achieve the goals you were attempting.
I advise you hire the services of a local Mac computer support technician experienced in these matters.
Have them look at your Wifi and computer backup proceedures in the process.
    Good Luck.

and at the BI Server boot.properties path there is no security folder. Do u have any idea why i cant found anything at this directions ? Also I tried again the command "./startWeblogic.sh " and get a new error message which I post below. I am rlly worry about this. Is there maybe a way to reset the OBIEE and undo all changes ?

  • Opmnctl: graceful stop of processes failed, trying forceful shutdown...

    Hi Guru's
I have installed BI for my billing system on HP-UX 11i , with application server 10.1.2.0.2.
Last thursday we suffered from sudden power failure and all our servers went off.
After rebooting everything, opmnctl wasnt starting, so after further digging it turned out that the problem was with the dcm.conf file and quickly found it was cleared and had a 0 byte size. So, I copied the .bak file to the original name.
After that, all the services start gracefully apart from the HTTP Server which doesnt.
    The logs are pasted below:-
    /bi/appl/oracle/ORABI/102/opmn/bin$./opmnctl stopall
opmnctl: stopping opmn and all managed processes...

Kindly assist me as there are bosses of mine breathing down my neck.
    Thank Rajab.

There isn't a direct way to avoid OPMN having to try graceful stop first and directly go for force stop. But what you can do though is reduce the amount of time it waits for graceful stop request to finish (the timeout). For that you can change (reduce) the value of "timeout" attribute of <stop> element for the component in your $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\config\opmn.xml file. Refer this for details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13996/common.htm#CACIFHJI
You can set the timeout to a very low value.
But keep in mind you should only do it when you understand the side effects of force/kill stop approach. Following explains the difference b/w graceful and forceful shutdown of Apache (same is applicable to OHS as OPMN under the cover uses apachectl to stop OHS):
    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/stopping.html
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Shutdown failure, have to force shutdown evertime

After pressing the shutdown button, normally there'll be a circle running on the lower center of the screen. But after reinstalling my OS it startEd to not appear and I waited for minutes but still didn't shut down. Tried a few times but I have to force shutdown evertime. How to fix? Thanks!

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • P67A-C43 no boot, constant beep, 3 lights

    Hello all,
When I attempt to power on the system I get a constant beeping sound and what looks like 3 blue lights on the mobo. ( very quickly 1 to all 4 then to only 3. The beep is constant and will not stop until power is removed from the system.
The board supports an 8 pin power connector but 4 pins had a cap on them. Do I need an 8 pin connection? I only used a 4pin in the top uncapped area (top)....
    PSU is 500w 4pin, 4gb ddr3 in slot 1.
    Any ideas?

That is not the correct answer, I am having the same issues with my MSI-P67A-G45 and I'm running a Corsair 850TX, and I had a 700W PSU in there before that... both PSUs did the same thing....
Constant short beeps until the power is removed from the board (via disconnecting the Power Cable), or Switching the PSU switch to the OFF position.
The only way I can get it to stop is to do what I wrote above and then wait 5-10 secs and power it back on, sometimes it takes 1-2 times to get it to stop beeping... so no it is NOT a PSU issue.
I've read several other threads about this and have not seen a clear answer on it.
I hope someone can help us out because it is rather annoying to have a board that is 2 weeks old already having issues... (BTW, this started right when I installed the board, so I know it's not something that I did myself.
Any realistic tips would be great... thanks.

  • Very quiet boot.

ok, what I would like to do is make arch boot very quietly, by this I mean from grub to X I dont want to see anything but splash screen, as of know using fbsplash and quiet kernel parameter still gives me a small chunk of output informing me that udev is starting, I also get the first few lines of initscript output before fbsplash starts, what I would like to do is make it more like ubuntu (gasp i know) where you see nothing but a pretty logo until gdm is started. I believe this may involve some kernel patching but im not sure. Im really trying to add that extra polish to my friends arch box who is converting from ubuntu so any help would be much appreciated.

    kolbycrouch wrote:
@unia, Ive tried plymouth recently, It appears on shutdown but not on boot, either way it seems to only start after kms has, which is about 1/3 of the way through the initscripts. I believe I can make the initscripts quiet however there is still the issue of few kernel lines before init is started, Im not sure how to get around this.
@stebalien, looking over at the file /lib/initcpio/init, it seems this has something to do with mkinitcpio's output but im not sure.
    Thanks for the help.
You can start KMS earlier by adding the module for you driver (nouveau, radeon, etc.) to mkinitcpio.conf and regenerating the kernel image.

  • H61M-P21 B3 Constant Beeping, Won't POST

So basically when I start my computer, I get a constant error beeping going, with a couple short beeps at the very start, and then back to just the constant beeping. I can see a little flashing underscore on the top left of my screen, and it switches between the numbers 98 and 99 on the bottom right. After about 20 seconds, I get even more beeps thrown into the already constant beeping for a second, and then they stop and it goes back to continuous beeping. I then also get 92, A2, A3, and A4 errors on the bottom right. It doesn't POST. It will just sit there constantly beeping with a A3 at the bottom right.
I should also add that the power is always on whenever power is plugged in. Not sure why this is happening either. The only way to shut the motherboard all the way off is to unplug the power cord or turn off the PSU.
    My specs are as follows:
    Core i3 2120 CPU
    MSI H61M-P21 B3 Motherboard
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
Diamond HD Radeon 6770 1GB GPU
Seagate 250 GB SATA 7200 RPM HD
    ASUS SATA DVD-RW Drive
Thermaltake Purepower 2.0 600 Watt PSU
I previously had a ASRock board that wouldn't detect my video card, or any others I had here to try, so I bought this one. With the ASRock board, I could boot to Windows just fine with onboard video, so I think everything is working fine.
    Things I have tried:
    Resetting CMOS
Trying each stick of RAM separately
Using onboard GPU (same exact errors)
    Trying different monitors
I'm out of ideas, and I'm not even sure if I can take the board back. Any help is greatly appreciated!

It has completed POST when you get to the A3 code. AA is the one that is shown once in the OS. Those aren't errors, just the normal progression codes thru the POST process.
A3 it's now looking for the OS. You can't migrate the OS from another system & expect it to work in the new one. Also, did you install the OS in AHCI? Then you must have the SATA controller set to AHCI & not in IDE mode.
Added: What keyboard & mouse are used? F-Lock on the keyboard enabled? How many USB devices or add-in cards are being used?

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro with constant beeping and crashing

    Hi creative
I would like to make a enquiry with regards to a issue I have come across for the past few weeks. I have a custom build pc running at home with a Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro sound card. This machine has been build since 2007 and all as been fine up until now. I have noticed that when playing audio and listening to music the machine crashes all of a sudden and there is a constant beep coming out the machine which requires me to hard reset the machine to return to normal. I have reinstalled the OS to rule out any windows Audio drivers, device drivers, software issues and failure with the OS, but this only lasted a few weeks and this problem has re-appeared and is ntermittent and very frustrating. I would like to know the route the of intermittent issue and the possible causes around it and what I have to do push forward apart from changing the sound card, it would be nice to know the proper answer to the cause of the issue. Any ideas could it be the capacitors on the card?

So with your 65 whopping posts, what exactly do you think you are contributing to this forum? The user has a Sound Blaster-branded sound card, so in my opinion, he is in the "correct" section.

  • IPAD: Forced Shutdown During Update. iPad No Longer Working! Help?

I did a force shutdown during the latest ios6 bug fix update and now my ipad will not work at all. iTunes does not reckognise the device when I connect it to my pc via usb. I have tried everything I can think of to have it start but with no success. It just keeps displaying the Apple logo, then flickering, then showing some text data in white, then goes to a blank black screen, then the logo and all over again. It does shutdown but cannot do a startup to the swipe lock page.
It would be hard to believe one could fully kill an ipad so quickly and easily. Please tell me that this is a fixable problem! Any way to get it to start again?
    Thanks!
    Manahen

You will need to restore your iPad to factory from recovery mode and connecting to your computer. Connect your iPad to your computer and hold the home and power button down for 15 to 30 seconds until you see the silver apple. Once you see the silver apple let go of the power button but keep holdng the home button until you see the itunes logo and white usb cord. At this point you should be able to restore in itunes.

  • Bluetooth iPhone 4s car stereo very quiet

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me with an audio problem. Sometimes when I connect by iPhone 4s to my car stereo via Bluetooth, the audio is very quiet. Even with my volume turned all the way up on my phone and car stereo. Then other times ill connect them and it'll play normal and very loud. And way to fix this so it's loud all the time?-(when's it's quiet I turn it all the way up and it's still like background noise...)
    TIA

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5S in my Subaru.  Until someone can offer a fix, I am resorting to using FM, only.

I force shutdown my MacBook Pro by pressing the shutdown button for a long time and when I reopened my laptop, my files and apps are all gone.
When I reopened my laptop, it said that some files have been deleted or hidden (I don't know if it said hidden, I don't remember). my dock and wallpaper were set back to default.
This isn't my first time force shutting my MacbookPro.
How can I restore/recover back my stuff?
i heard time machine restores your stuff back.
And please don't tell me to go to apple because I have made an appointment with them but I'm still worried.
Please if you know anything about this please tell me anything you know.
    Please help me.

Given that you sound a nervous wreck and a neophyte in matters Mac, it would be safest that you put the Mac away, go take a chill pill, grab a bite, get some rest. Then take the Mac to its scheduled appointment with Destiny, er, the Apple Genius.
There's a good possibility of data loss and munging around unknowing, following instructions that will probably be hard to grasp will only increase the amount of damage.
