Very Serious Issue for all Macbook Pro Users Regarding Reinstalls, Backups

If you boot from your original install DVD, and choose to re-partition your internal HD, it may result in having a disk that will not be bootable, and the install program will refuse to proceed. This means you WILL NOT be able to install OS X on your Macbook Pro!
The problem is that the partition scheme MUST be 'GUID partition' in order for an intel mac to boot on, and it is 'fdisk' instead.
The solution given by apple support is the following : http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303220-en
Unfortunately, the disk utility on your install DVD disables the "option" button that offers the option "GUID partition" : this option is only available for external disks !

Was there a reason you wanted to partition your HD?

  • Trackpad Fix for All Macbook Pro and Macbook Models.

Apple has issued a update for the Trackpad but the update is only compatible with the newer unibody Macbooks and Macbook Pros.
I have made the following patch that is compatible with all Macbook Pro and Macbook models with trackpad issues. Don't forget to run the registry patch last.
    Download it here:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SNIG71OI
This should fix the trackpad issues for all Macbook Pro models.
    1. Go to Device manager and go to the "Apple Multitouch Mouse Properties."
    2. Go to the driver tab and click on Update Driver.
    3. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
    4. Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
    5. Click on the "Have Disk" button.
    6. Browse to the location of the included "Apple Multitouch Mouse Driver" folder and hit OK.
    7. Click on next and it will update the driver.
    8. Double-Click the included "MouseFix" registry file.
    9. Restart and enjoy!

Thanks a lot for the effort you made. Rightclick/Scroll problem is not as bad as before, but its still there. What exactly did you change in the driver files? I'm very interested in this.
I think about programming my own drivers. A good base for that will be perhaps the source code for this linux demo:

  • Optimal Scratch Disk Setting for Notebook/Macbook Pro Users

After doing a ton of research, I came across THIS guidline for different scratch disk setups but I am still not sure what would be the best setup for me.
Here is what I am working with for my Current Projects Work Station
2011 i7 Macbook Pro with SSD as my main drive and 750GB 5400rpm HD in the optical bay.
OWC Elite Mini and Dual Mini in Raid0 for Media Storage. Both 7200rpm Drives
Currently I have my scratch disk set to the following:
SSD: Startup drive, OS, Programs, Project Files and Exports
750GB HD: Partitioned - 250GB to Backup SSD and 500GB for Photo storage and PP Scratch Disk Video, Audio and Previews
OWC Minis: Media Storage for Current Projects
My question is, what can I do to optimize my premiere pro settings?
Should I move my scratch disk to my external HD since its a faster drive?

I have a very similar setup but am using a couple pieces of new gear. Wondering if Harm or any of the rest of you have any advice.

I have various LaCie drives that contain projects, media, exports connected via LaCie Tbolt esata adapter. So these are drives I've had for years that are now running at 3G esata speeds.
I'm not using the 2nd internal drive for anything since it is 5400rpm. I just use it for backups, photo, music storage.
So I ususally work small projects with the projects, media, exports, renders all pointing back to the esata connected external LaCies.
Should I point media cache to the 500GB SSD my internal c drive? The answer to this is still confusing since I've read many conflicting posts in various places.
Any other suggestions for now with this setup? (External Tbolt connected raid not yet in my budget.)

  • General Recall for all Macbook Pro's

I believe that is time for Apple to do a general recall of all the Macbook Pro's.
Even if takes a couple of weeks to revise them, it will be worth it.

Mac Book Pro 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Maybe because most of us don't have any problems.
Please understand (and this is coming from an Apple authorized tech from years back, who has not worked in service for years...but still.....), if you have problems, you complain. And you should. And you find other that are having problems. And that makes it look like all or at least most people are also having problems. And that's just not the case.
The local Apple store here has sold about 30 (granted, a small number) and not ONE has come back, including mine. Does my backlight flicker a tiny bit at the lowest setting? Yes. Not enough to bother me. Anything else? Nope.
Guess what....that's typical. What is atypical are the posts you see here about problems. That is definitley not to say that they shoudln't be fixed, and maybe shouldn't have happend at all. But understand that you are in an unfortunate minority.

  • Bootcamp or parallels for new macbook pro user

I am about to make the switch from pc and purchase one of the new macbook pros that came out today. I don't fully understand how bootcamp and parallels work yet and which would be better for my needs.
I am an architect and will need to run windows for 3d modeling and rendering occasionally. Most likely I will have to use XP pro since Vista isn't yet supported in my work environment. Although I am used to pc operating systems, I think most of the rest of my work could be done using a mac os. Ideally, I would be able to use both simultaneously, but I have heard that parallels is slow.
any thoughts would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
personally I don't use Fusion but Parallels.
Both claim that they can use an existing BootCamp Windows partition for creating their Virtual Machines.
However there are a lot of postings that this worked for one and that this has destroyed the BootCamp Windows for others.
For myself I have a BootCamp Windows XP and Parallels with an old Windows 2000 I had lying around.
If you let Fusion use your BootCamp Windows for creating its VM, then there should be no need to reinstall the Windows programs, although it could happen that you have the reenter serial numbers for these programs.
A reformat is not neccessary since Fusion puts the Virtual machine (which in fact consists of 2-3 files) on your OSX partition.
Given the fact that you most certainly need a BootCamp Windows in order to run your architecture programs, I would propose to this first.

  • Serious issues with my Macbook pro

I have a Macbook pro 15" late 2011. I've just upgrading to Mountail Lion, but since I've did the upgrade every 10 or 15 minutes my site and others sites like ebay or godaddy losses the conection.
I tried to make a ping from the Terminal and tells me something like this "cannot resolve siasproject.com: Unknown host".
I know that the pages are working fine because I can access with my iPhone or even a PC.
I use Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, even Opera, but apparently the issue is in the OS.
The only way to navigate without any problem is with Tor,
Please, someone help me with my problem.

  • Optimal Scratch Disk Setting for Notebook/Macbook Pro Users 2013??

    Hey Folks,
I have read a few previous posts from other users but they were on the older model MBPs.  Now that the USB 3 option is there and there are other options for Thunderbolt storage I was wondering what the best solution for disk setups would be.  I have no problems removing the optical drive and installing another HD in it's place so please feel free to use that option in any configuration solutiions you may offer.
Thanks in advance for your input to this discussion.

Here's what I recommend as a starting point for a good editing experience.
    C: OS/Programs
    D: Projects
    E: Cache/Scratch
    F: Media
    E: Exports
Here's what I recommend as a bare minimum:
    C: OS/Programs
    D: Projects/Cache/Scratch
    E: Media/Exports
In all cases, implement some sort of backup.

  • Is it bad for my macbook pro to heat up so high?

I know that its normal for all macbook pro's to heat so extremely high and mine rarely does it only when im running multiple things and putting the cpu to work,I was just curious if this was actually bad for my "notebook".

  • Having issues with 13" MacBook Pro. Running very slow and blank screen and sleep mode.

Bought my MBPro summer 2009. About a month / 6 weeks ago it began to run extremely slow at points. Now it is running poorly and getting very slow on a daily basis, to the point where it will not open applications, documents or even web pages for in excess of 5 minutes. I'm beginning to lose patience!
Also at the exact same time of these performance issues occuring, my MacBook Pro will not awaken from sleep mode when the lid is closed. Showing a blank dark screen and having to hard reset in order to boot up my system again and get it running.
What is the best solution in order to resolve these issues?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

Did you run Disk Utility>First Aid?  If so what were the results?  This is a copy of mine, note that the bottom line says:  The partition map appears to be OK:

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Where is the User Guide for the MacBook Pro 13-Inch 2012?

    Hi there,
Trawling the Apple Support Manual pages (http://support.apple.com/manuals), I couldn't seem to find the correct User Guide.. even searching with my Serial Number.
I am looking for the MacBook Pro 13-inch (2012 10.8.2 Mountain Lion) User's Guide.
Searching with my Serial Number, the results are:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) - Quick Start Guide
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) - Important Product Information Guide
Searchng manually, all i can find are:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) - User Guide
MacBook (13-inch) - User Guide... which is the OS X v10.4 Tiger version
Is there not a "MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) - User Guide" ????
    Thanks,
    Chris

I have already worked out that there's no full User's Guide.
Why would a new mac User, like myself, want a Quick Start Guide (which came in the box), and then not want access to an actual full User Guide.
I have been using the other PDF's for general guidance, but I shouldn't have to make do with other guides.
Apple.... Is it too much to ask that my £1250 purchase comes with the proper documentation ?!

First of all, uninstall it with the uninstaller.
    Then:
    Install the ENGLISH version.
Change the language in the CC app to Korean.
Install the Korean version. (DON't uninstall the English version)
Change back the langauge in the CC app to English.
When your OS is running in English, InDesign will run in English with Korean functionality added, if your OS is running in Korean it will take the Korean User Interface, so let your OS run in English.
Every installer language will add needed plugins for the work with that language. E.g. If I install Hebrew, I get RTL functionality in German version, only if I would change the OS language it would change the language of InDesign, InDesign takes always as UI language the language of the OS if available, if not (in your case you have uninstalled English before), it takes any version which is available in the order of languages specified in the OS.
If you need to run your program in a different language than the OS but you have installed it in the language of the OS it becomes more difficult. You would have to use some system tools which are able to force a program to open with a different language. Most of those tools are freeware.
