Very slow Access 2002 query with Windows 7

I need help troubleshooting consistently slow queries in an Access 2002 database with Windows 7.
I’m running a temporary query in a local copy of a back end database with only tables. The identical query will take just 2-3 seconds with Windows XP but 30-60 seconds with Windows 7. Multiple Windows 7 workstations are all slow and
all Windows XP machines run the query quickly.  I even used JetShowPlan on both workstations to compare and the plans are identical. Two tables are involved with rushmore used on the first and a full scan on the second table of about 150,000 records.
Even in XP Mode on the Windows 7 machine the query still takes only about 10 seconds. Anyone have any ideas why Access/Jet on Windows 7 can be so slow? Thanks for any ideas.
Rick Collard

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the pointer - I had found that one earlier and tried it - did not help.  I think the HP ProtectTools Security Manager is Normally loaded
on Laptops - my problem is on Workstation.  I did a test of 2007 Access in the Virtual XP Mode window - There is works 'normally'.
To give you an idea how Slow a query in 2007 access/W7 is;
I started a search for part numbers with 'busbar' in their description...
on W7 - Database is LOCAL to WS and upgraded to Office 2007
I then opened an XP Mode window
Opened the 2007 Access DB to the 'normal' database located on fileserver.
enter the same Part search
counted to 10 - 19 Parts found
Closed DB
Closed XP Mode window
Waited about 2 minutes... same 19 parts found....  Wonderful!
I will wait till my MS Rep can get me in line for the Hot fix or MS releases it.  Till then I will teach the Users how to Use XP Mode.

  • Very slow responce when working with Office file on DFS-Share

Very slow responce when working with Office file on DFS-Share
We have implemented the following configuration
Domain level Windows 2000. Two member servers with Windows Server 2008 R2, sharing the same DFS namespace with, at the moment, one folder target called Home.
Users complaining that the access to different MS Office files is very slow. Even creating a new MS Word document using right click context menu takes up to 4 minutes to open. Saving, for example, one singe Excel sheet takes also few minutes.
Tested with both, MS Office 2007 and MS Office 2010. Makes no difference. When using Office 2010 you can see the message like contacting:
\\DomainName\Root\Home\UserName. Other files like TXT, JPG or PDF are not affected.
What makes the thing really weird is the fact, that the behavior described above can absolutely change after client machine being rebooted, suddenly everything becomes very fast and this condition can revert back again just after the next
    reboot.
    Considerations until now:
    1. This has nothing to do with the file size. Even tiny files are affected.
    2. AD Sites are configured correctly and the client workstations see themselves in the correct sites.
    3. This is not an Office issue. If I map my folder target not as DFS, but directly as shared network drive
\\ServerName\Root\Home\UserName , everything functions as expected
What makes me suspicious: when using f.e. TCPView to monitor connections, I can see, that each time I make any operation on an office file, there will be a connection established to one of the domain controllers, sometimes to remote ones,
located in other countries. But on the other side, even if the connection is established to the nearest DC, operations are still very very slow!
Just forget to say. All clients are Windows 7
    Thanks to all who respond.

    Dear all,
sorry for the delayed reply. The problem has been solved now and since September 19th. everything is functioning as expected.
    What was done:
Deleted replication targets excepting the initial ones
    Carefully recreated folder targets
    Deleted and recreated  replication groups
Disabled SNP features on both namespace servers
    Created EnableTCPA registry entry
Checked that the following Updates are installed
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2688074
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2647452
Concering Office File validation KB2553065 - This Update was already declined on our WSUS server
    Kind Regards

  • Updated to firefox 4.0. since then my computer is very slow accessing the internet, websites and getting information from within a website.

Over a week ago I updated my computer to Firefox 4.0. Since then my computer is very slow accessing the internet, websites and getting information from within a website. Also, a tool bar has shown up for YAHOO which I did not request. The old detailed tool bar for Firefox has disappeared. All that now shows for Firefox is the area to enter website urls and an area to enter topic for a Google Search.
Many times I have to exit Firefox and re-enter it later to access the internet.
Please advice what I need to do to get back to the speed I had with the older version of Firefox.
    Thank You,
    Dennis

  • Link aggregated between NAS and a switch: the Mac as a very slow access...

    Hello,
in my Office we're working with Macs and PCs and all the data is on a NAS.
    Here is our configuration:
    NAS <-link1->Switch<-Link2->Macs or PC.
Macs are connected with AFP protocol (because SMB is very slow).
We want to use Link Aggregation between the NAS and the switch (with 802.3ad procotol) but when we do that all the Macs have a very slow access to the NAS. But all is OK with the PCs.
What can we do? Is there a problem with macOS X and link aggregation?
    Thank you for your help.
    Nicolas

Sorry, not sure what the question is exactly.
You must have an Xserve, or Ethernet cards capable of Jumbo Frames for one, I assume the Switch & NAS are capable?
    Possible clues...

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Very slow access to NAS causes Finder to crash

    Hello,
I have a mid-2011 iMac with Yosemite connected to my tp-link router WDR-4300 via WiFi. Everything works fine, internet browsing etc. I bought a Synology ds213air NAS, connected via LAN to the same router. When I access the NAS from the iMac the connection works ok and the streaming speed is also fine if I try to watch some movies stored on the NAS for example, but when it comes to browsing the content of the NAS folders it's a disaster. The browsing is really slow, and often Finder gets stuck and I completely lose control of the iMac (I have to reboot). Reason why I am writing here is because if I access the NAS from Windows everything works perfect. Even worse, the Windows 7 copy that I am using is installed on my Mac using Parallels... So it is not an issue with the WiFi or the network environment, it is purely an issue with the iMac/Yosemite. I have been having exactly the same issue even before Yosemite, with Mavericks, Mountain Lion and Lion. Everything has the latest Software/Firmware installed. I access the NAS by using afp://<ip address> on the Mac.
I am out of ideas, would be good if someone experienced the same issue and knows more about this.
    Thanks

Same problem with a 2014 Macbook Air and a WD 4tb Mybook live duo.  I also have a win 7 basic laptop.
Don't know if this ill help but it was suggested you need to mount the shares at startup. The problem most have found is that if you just add the share to login items it always opened a finder window.  I also have a windows 7 machine and with my wd live book duo it is lightning fast the new Macbook is like a week week.  This is as far as I have gotten still looking for help and ideas  Apple no help.
    Partially Solved
Ok my windows 7 machine still accesses all folders (no matter how many levels down the tree) and files extremely fast but with my partial solution below the MacBook with Yosemite is better but still a poor cousin
After reading a lot of similar questions dating back to 2008 I decided to copy some lines of a script to mount network folders, from that I was able to white cane myself through how scripts work until I came up with the following script
After writing this in Script Editor I saved as an application into the APPS folder.  From there I dragged it into Users login items.  As a script it seems to work perfectly.  Does it do what we need?
    Mostley.
I struck a problem copying from one network share to another with a response stopping me saying you don't have permission to do this.  When I looked at get info I wasn't able to get any as I was logged in as a guest and wasn't logged in with privileges to my NAS Drive.
So I added the login/password to my router (workgroup) before the nas drive name and shared folder name.  This seems to have worked as far as editing and copying files etc.  but when I 'get info' on the mounted drives it still shows custom access and does not allow me to change user access.
Speed of access. Shares with a mixed of files about a one to three second delay, Photos and music sometimes still up to 20 seconds delay to see files and these delays continue as you click through the lower folders.
Debatable, now much faster than before and nearly tolerable, but till nowhere near the speed of the windows 7.
So I am missing something here.  It seems obvious to access a nas drive with yosemite you need to use a script or have some startup configuration code run that suits your network.. This is far beyond my knowledge,  but  really it shouldn't be needed at all if apple had got it right to begin with.
Anyway over to you with knowledge what am I missing?
Why is it so damned slow still
The following script mounts the various shares at startup and has a small delay to allow the wifi to connect before telling finder to mount the network shares, These share mount then because I want to see they have mounted I put in  2 second delay before telling finder to not show connected servers on desktop.
Change names and password  and number of shares to suit your setup then save as an app and add to user login items
good luck, hope you do better than me

  • Slow startup- new pavilion with windows 8

Hi there, I have only recently purchased a hp pavilion with the product key being: F5B53EA#ABU
The first few times I turned it on it was incredibly fast and I was impressed. I have moved my document from my old laptop onto it (not very many, just mainly word documents and pictures) and I have already uninstalled unecessary programmes however the start up is very slow compared to what it was before, I have to leave my laptop for 5-7 mins and then come back to see if it has finally started. Any help would be very appreciated.

I understand you are having issues with your computer starting up slowly and are looking for assistance in getting it fixed. I have seen issues where certain Windows components are not re-initializing properly if the Fast Startup option is enabled. This is enabled, by default. Perform the following to disable it:
    Step 1. Open Control Panel.
Step 2. Choose Hardware and Sound / Power Options.
Step 3. Click on Choose what the power button does on the left side menu.
Step 4. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable at the top.
Step 5. Scroll down and Remove the check mark from the Turn on fast startup (recommended) option under Shutdown settings. Select the Save Changes button and exit Control Panel.
Step 6. Shut down (Not Restart) the computer, wait a few minutes and then start the computer.
As well I have seen this issue when people have an Anti-Virus installed with Windows 8. If the issue persists try disabling or uninstalling your Anti-Virus and see if that resolves your slow startup issue.
I believe this will resolve your slow start up issue in Windows 8. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • WD MyCloud very slow access

Dear sirs When I bought the MyCloud device 3TB, I had already experience with different WD MyBook devices. The problem is, that we are not able to really work successfully with new MyCloud device. Once the transfer has started it is fast. For huge files up to 45MB/s which is amazing cool. But from click to start the copy until it really start it takes some times up to 20 seconds (for one single file). In case of this extreme slow access time, we switched off ALL services. Cloud service is off, Media streaming is off, backup is off, trash-service is off, ... One extreme performance impact is for example one Security camera folder filled with10 subfolders filled with 5'000 JPG pictures each. To simple access them to make a preview it takes 3 days. On local HDD it takes about 1 minute. We have tested now on Windows XP / Windows 7 / Windows 8.1 at about 6 different computers.  The main problem is our daily "office file access" which went down extrem slow since we moved to the cloud.  Here are my settings and CPU load in a short videohttp://youtu.be/aR6epWKnYT8  Please advice

The IP is already static set by Router. Additional I have tried with static IP. But WD Cloud has not fixed anything that way. CPU is still enormous at load without any reason too.

  • Slow Accessing Files Across a Windows 2003 Server Network

I posted this quite some time ago in the Os X Forum:
    Hi,
We get the spinning ball when we access files across a Windows 2003 network with our Os 10.3.9 Macs.
It seems that the more files there are in the folder, the longer you see the ball, our Fonts folder can sometimes take up to 2 minutes before you can scroll to the bottom of the folder.
This happens after a computer restart or a program restart.
Does anyone know of a fix for this issue, as it is quite annoying?
Also note: This does not happen when accessing the same files through Os9 classic, even though the machines are running 10.3.9.
The network is all new cat 5 cables and this a relatively new Dell Power Connect 3324 switch connected to a very fast Dell Poweredge 2600 server.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

I'm also running several Macs on a Windows Small Business Server (Windows Server 2003) and the only way I am able to pull up the files was to join each one of my Macs to the Windows Server's network domain. You have to do this through the Directory Utility in the Utilities folder. There is one draw back from what I can tell, and it's something that I need some help with. It seems that once a Mac (running Leopard) is joined to a Windows domain, it takes the log in process forever to finish. Logging into a Leopard Mac alone is pretty quick, but after joining the domain, logging into any of the Macs on the Windows domain takes over a minute. If anyone knows the answer to this one, I'm all ears.

  • Very slow insert and query

    Dear Professionals:
The insert and query become very slow and somtimes hang. It wasn't like this before .. Network people added 100 pc to the network .. most of them not using the databse only internet and we are all in the same network .. Can this slow down the database Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 OS w2k server ? And how to know that the slowness is from network and not from query or inserts ?
    Ahmed.

    Hi,
    >>Network people added 100 pc to the network .. most of them not using the databse only internet. Can this slow down the database Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 OS w2k server ?
Maybe yes, maybe not, maybe a network performance problem ...
If you try to execute these DML's (insert, ...) and querys directly on the Server, what's happen ?
    Cheers

  • Database is very slow in oracle 9i with Suse Linux

    Hello All,
We are using Suse linux and installed Oracle 9i on it. Our ERP product is running on this database. It is very slow. But linux configuration seems Ok. Oracle's performance is very slow. But The same thing is working fast in oracle 8.1.6 and 8.1.7. Is there any special linux configuration parameters should we consider for this or we have to do something in init.ora file?. I added the size of the JAVA_POOL_SIZE, SHARED_POOL_SIZE and LARGE_POOL_SIZE to 300 MB each.
Thanks in advance and expecting your reply.
    with regards,
    sivababu

Which version of SuSE Linux would possibly help here. I'm using version 7.3 Pro and it is only 10 minutes slower than my installation on XP Pro (the script is 16 pages long and takes 8,000,000 records and converts them into 30,000 records of useful information-takes 20 minutes in XP, 30 minutes in SuSE 7.3 on a personal computer). I used the orarun9i script and followed the directions for re-compiling the genclntsh from the SuSE installations online.

  • Screen moves very slow when i drag a window from one corner to other.

    Hi,
We are taking RDP to windows server 2008 R2 standard using Thin-clients.
If I drag a window of explorer or browser to other end of screen it is very slow.(it will work as desktop without video drivers).
Is there any solution for this.
And By the way what is application getting accelerated mean.
    Thanks in advance...........

    Hi,
Please check if a normal physical computer has the same issue. If not, I’m afraid that the issue is related to the performance of Thin Clients.
Please update the firmware and drivers of your thin clients to the latest and try again.
    Thanks.

  • Urgent: Portal access using SSO with Windows NT

    Dear all,
I'm planning to implement SSO for Portal with Window NT authentication.
Can anybody explain me the steps to do...
If the internal users logs in NT domain say..("ABC"). he/she should be authenticated to Portal without giving logon credentials.. automatically they needs to enter into portal.
    I'm using NW'04 SR1(EP6.0 SP9) with AIX 5.2/oracle
    Microsoft ADS(LDAP)
    Pl explain me...
    Appreciated with reward points...
    regards
    PRadeep

    Hi,
in order to apply windows SSO you will need to install the IIS proxy module in front of your portal, this module knows how to handle users authentication using the NTLM/kerberos features MS ADS supports.
the specific procedure for implementing it can be found in the documentation/help. i have managed to find it in the EP6 sp2 security guide but i think it is the same for the EP6 SP9 as well. so just go to this link:
    <u><b>https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/ep/d-f/ep 6.0 sp2 security guide.pdf</b></u>
keep in mind that you will need to be logged on to SDN.
